(Request to please read all of it, also this is a genuine query based on what is acceptable in different countries) I work in a multinational UK bank, which has its captive in four metro locations in India. Here the work atmosphere is formal but it seems to be acceptable to fold ones legs and sit on the chair. For example if you were to sit on the floor, you would cross your legs in a manner that each ankle is under a thigh - or the indian 'padmasana' or 'yogasana' in yoga. I have seen many - specially girls sit that way on the chair. I confirm to all office conduct including dress code, jewelery etc BUT sitting like that for all 8 hours is very comfortable. I used to study in school sitting in that position on the chair too and have been sitting like that for having a meal although out my life. thats a very common thing in my culture. If I travel to UK for work, or take employment there, will the English people take offense to it? I do not like to sit like that in meetings - but only when I am to completely focus and have loads of things completed. I was put up in a hotel in Bmth. I stayed in that hotel for around 2 months. The Lounge is where me and my colleagues came down to surf internet on our laptops. I saw a chinese boy , relax on a couch with his feet up and laptop on his belly - so I guessed that it was acceptable. However that time there were no english people around. One evening, i put my feet up on the sofa, and stationed my laptop on a table. I was then subject to indirect remarks by a lady telling her child to put her feet down since it was 'rude'. I was so ashamed , I immediately corrected my self. Link shows what sukhasana looks like . Please focus only on the position of the legs. The hands usually do office work, or regular typing on keyboard etc. I do not go in a yogic trance or anything. This is very acceptable and non-issue in India, but am worried about acceptability when moving to UK. Also, when you look at a person desk up, they look just like a person with their feet down. http://www.sukhasana.com/ moreResolved Question: Whatever happened to the Natural Law Party?

Gandhi's typist and shorthand secretary, Parasuram, resigned on New Year's day 1947. He was shocked to find Gandhi sleeping naked with Manu. She also bathed and massaged his naked body, finding nothing wrong in doing anything Bapu asked of her. Gandhi insisted that he was never aroused when he slept beside her, or next to Sushila or Abha. It was at this time that partition was taking place, Hindu-Muslim violence was rising and Gandhi was complaining that no one listened to him anymore. He was apparently carrying out new experiments in brahmacharya to increase his yogic powers and regain the influence he had held in the past. I think he failed because he let Manu get too close to his heart. (Like me with crack...) http://www.kuro5hin.org/story/2007/7/18/214920/618 (I am disgusted with this man, Gandhi, but sorry, I am a rational person and cannot bear the fact that Gandhi could do something like this. What might be the reason?) Shawn, even Gandhi agreed to these lines There are many more stories of him sleeping naked with girls. I mean how could he sacrifice the lives of young girls to gain Yogic powers or for his experiments. how can he test his virtue on a young girl? What about her life? Isn't there a need for her to have a future? There is a lot of articles by Gandhi's secretary, and even Gandhi himself admitted he was doing these things, It is true Man, he was doing experiments to control his sexual drive. he was sleeping with a naked girl. she was his cousin's granddaughter BoogyMan gave a good answer, thanks dude. My wife is a very active person. In my opinion she over stresses herself physically. She has a rheumatic heart condition. She is almost 54 years old. She keeps pushing herself very hard even though she is tired. To top it all, she does yogic exercises. At the end of the day she plonks on her bed and has a very restful sleep of 8 to 10 hours. However, when she wakes up, she complains of tiredness. What could be the cause? moreResolved Question: Do you Believe in Karma?
More importantly, if you do...are you a faithful follower of any belief system not related to Hinduism or Buddhism? because in truth it is a Yogic belief that represents the constant cycle of Cause and Effect or Inertia to others. This is a form of an opposing deity (if you can see it that way), so why do you beleive in Karma (which takes over God's or Allah's job)? By stating anything connected to the Karmic Wheel, you are ignorantly speaking in terms of another belief system and against your own...think about it. RandomQu--did your tummy get all warm and numb when you were writing that...you must have the victim mentality to put up such a drastic scenario...why would you need 10 people to take care of 1...what, are you a limp-wrist or something. Im not twisting anything to fit anything...the whole cause and effect is what most call god's will is it not...so therefore it is god's work. Speaking of something other than god in life's works is going against that 1st commandment. Karma is just one more Theory thrown out there to confuse people. you can say that if someone lives a life of negativity they will be surrounded by negativity...and if someone lives a life of positivity, they will be surrounded by positivity. But what about those who execute negative acts upon those who are positive? Perhaps they were not so positive afterall right? What about a positive person executing a negative act upon a negative person, will that pos person get bad karma just for standing for whats RIGHT? Daniel--I see your point and you do make a good one. However, most religions do not co-exist positively with other religions Hence the conflict of the Middle East. therefore they all are breaking that "divine" demand now aren't they. Karma can be seen as a Collective Conscious Entity...much like God itself. It is simply another ploy to scare the multitude into performing deeds of the greater good. However there are several examples of Cause & Effect we all can share...the list is endless...Karma is Karma, just as God is God...Life Energy set into motion for a particular purpose. Nothing more, nothing less. moreResolved Question: Is anyone offering Zen/Buddhist/Yogic free counseling to reach Enlightenment?

(AND Gemini rising...?)?
If you're willing to actually answer my question, please bypass the verbose disclaimer. Question's under the spiel. :-P DISCLAIMER - ONLY TO THOSE WHO (VOCALLY) DISDAIN ASTROLOGY: Now, listen, my asking of this question merely indicates curiousity and interest, NOT a spiritual investment or belief, in the realm of astrology. While I don't share Da Vinci's wish to have all astrologers castrated (if I did, I'd hold the astrologer down, Vince would, um, "sculpt", if you get my drift...), neither do I share my moolah with Miss Cleo. So, if you're going to base an inane, irrelevant answer about how I'm a "sucker" for wasting time even thinking astrology, consider why you're 1) on an astrology forum, accomplishing: 1) "thinking" about astrology and the people who study it and 2) spending the time doing so. You at least "wasted" time waiting for this page to load. Time is money, right? Thank you for reading this whole spiel, and by doing so, proving my point...again. :-) INTENDED QUESTION: So, my friend and I were looking at our charts online, and I notice that her chart is rather well distributed, from an elementary elemental (couldn't resist, sorry :-P) point of view (or should I say, aspect?) (Sorry again, puns are prunes for the bowels of shitty jokes - oh god, a pun within a pun...I'm out of control). ANYWAY, she's got 3 Earth, 3 Fire, 2 Air, 2 Water. Lovely. I've got 6 Air, 2 Fire, 1 Earth, 1 Water. She's a Scorpio rising (+1 Water), I'm a Gem rising (+1 Air). There seems to be a fundamental, universal belief that the only extreme in existence should be extreme balance. (Everything in moderation except moderation itself). That being said, what tends to be the consequences of having a disproportionate amount of air in one's chart? My major planets are largely within Aquarius. This "friend" says that too much air will make me schizophrenic. I think it will make me yogic. And try not to use my senseless rambling as a way to prove my friend's point. HAVING a slim and healthy body is very much on people’s minds today. This has caused many to turn to gymnasiums and health clubs for help. For the same reason, thousands of people in the Western world have turned to the Eastern art of yoga. People suffering from stress, depression, and frustration have also turned to yoga for solace and solutions. Particularly since the 1960’s, the decade of hippies and flower children, has interest in Eastern religions and their mystic practices spread throughout the West. Transcendental meditation, a close adjunct of yoga, has been popularized by film stars and rock musicians. In view of the growing interest in yoga, we might ask: ‘Is yoga simply an exercise routine that will give the practitioner a healthy, slim body and some peace of mind? Can yoga be practiced without any religious overtones? Is yoga suitable for Christians?’ The Background of Yoga The origin of the word “yoga” is related to that of the English word “yoke.” It can mean to join or yoke together or to bring under a yoke, to harness or control. To a Hindu, yoga is a technique or a discipline that leads to union with a great supernatural force or spirit. It has been described as “the yoking of all the powers of body, mind and soul to God.” How far back in history can yoga be traced? Figures of people seated in various yoga positions appear on seals found in the Indus Valley, in present-day Pakistan. The Indus Valley civilization is dated by archaeologists to between the third and the second millenniums B.C.E., very close in time to the Mesopotamian culture. Artifacts from both areas portray a man, representing a deity, crowned with animal horns and surrounded by animals, reminiscent of Nimrod, the “mighty hunter.” (Genesis 10:8, 9) The Hindus claim that the figures sitting in yoga positions are images of the god Siva, lord of the animals and lord of yoga, who is often worshiped through the lingam, a phallic symbol. Thus, the book Hindu World calls yoga “a code of ascetic practices, mainly pre-Aryan in origin, containing relics of many primitive conceptions and observances.” The methods of yoga were at first handed down orally. Then they were put into detailed, written form by the Indian yogic sage Patañjali as the Yoga Sutra, which remains the basic instruction book of yoga. According to Patañjali, yoga is “a methodical effort to attain perfection, through the control of the different elements of human nature, physical and psychical.” From its inception until the present time, yoga has been an integral part of Eastern religions, now particularly Hinduism, Jainism, and Buddhism. Some practicers of yoga believe that it will lead them to attain moksha, or liberation, through a merging with an all-pervading spirit. So once again we ask: ‘Can yoga be practiced simply as a physical exercise to develop a healthy body and a relaxed mind, without any involvement with religion?’ In view of its background, the answer would have to be no. Where Can Yoga Take You? The objective of yoga as a discipline is to lead a person to the spiritual experience of being “yoked” to or merged with a superhuman spirit. But which spirit would that be? In Hindu World, author Benjamin Walker says of yoga: “It may have been an early system of magical ritualism, and yoga still retains in its meaning an overtone of occultism and sorcery.” Hindu philosophers admit that the practice of yoga can give supernatural powers, even though they usually claim that this is not the ultimate goal of yoga. For example, in the book Indian Philosophy, former president of India, Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, says of the yogi that “control of the body through postures results in an indifference to the extremes of heat and cold. . . . The yogin can see and hear at a distance . . . Transmission of thought from one individual to another without the intervention of the normal communicating mechanisms is quite possible. . . . The yogi can make his body invisible.” The image of a yogi sleeping on a bed of nails or walking on hot coals may appear to be a hoax to some and a joke to others. But these are common occurrences in India, as is the practice of standing on one leg while staring directly at the sun for hours and breath control that allows a person to be buried in sand for long periods of time. In June 1995, The Times of India reported that a three-and-a-half-year-old girl lay in a trance as a car weighing more than 1,600 pounds [750 kg] was allowed to run over her abdomen. To the amazement of the crowd, when she awoke she was totally unharmed. The report added: “It was sheer yogic power.” Without a doubt, no normal human is capable of performing any of these tasks. Hence, a Christian must ask: Of what are these feats an indication? Are they from Jehovah God, “the Most High over all the earth,” or are they from some other source? (Psalm 83:18) The Bible is clear on this point. When the Israelites were on the verge of entering the Promised Land, which was oc moreResolved Question: what do girls prefer? See this Good Old Bhagavad Gita Verse, Chapter - 8, Verse - 23 from Jnaneshwari. "O Partha, if the lamp is extinguished either by wind or water , will one be able to see anything, even if one's sighty remains intact? when the body is overtaken by an excess of wind and phlegm, the fire in the body loses its warmth at the time of death. When the prana has no life, what can the intellect do them? Therefore, consciousness does not remain in the body, without warmth. If the warmth leaves the body, it is only a lump of wet clay; he will then spend the rest of his life in darkness (211-215). Then how can he keep the remembrance of his previous yogic practice at that time and become one with the Brahman after death? At that time he loses his consciousness and all his remembrance, past and present, in the mire of phlegm. So all his yogic practice perishes even before death, just as the lamp is extinguished even before the treasure in found. In shout, know that knowledge is dependent on heat of the body; therefore, it is necessary to have the help of full warmth at the time of departure." http://www.saibaba.us/texts/jnaneshwari/chpt08.html Now see the aspects of Mahabali evolving from Namuci in Srimad Bhagavatham. (Canto 8, Chapter 11) Can we say Srimad Bhagavatham and Bhagavad Gita touches all aspects and grammars of Existence just as Vedas do ? Can we say only what is vomitted by the Sage Veda Vyas is there in this sensory material world ? moreResolved Question: Are we all living meaningless lives within humanities artificial constructs?
Why do we need to live our lives to the fullest potential? I have done many things and achieved no real sense of satisfaction from them. I've become bored with pleasure and with pain. What does it really matter if you can achieve anything, help somebody else or believe in yourself? Recently I have been trying many new things in the hope of discovering a new desire or something novel that I will find something worth pursuing and ultimately fulfilling. I have worked for many charities as a volunteer; I have studied and practiced religions, finance and the sciences. I have utilized many of these tools and I've also developed good social skills that have helped me get better and better jobs right up to becoming a wealthy director of my own companies. To add to the conditioned social framework I have also engaged in creative pursuits like drawing, music, drama, authoring and sculpture. Now I am not claiming to be the best in any of these pursuits. It's important to me that I've tried them and experienced them for myself in my quest to discover something I'm actually interested in. Something with enough gravity to convince me life has any real meaning. I am 40 now and I've had plenty of stimulation in my life. Everything from sex to drugs to rock and roll. I've engaged in public speaking and also in meditation and yogic breathing. I don't want to do these things any more because they become totally boring in their addictiveness. I've experimented with sex and social relationships extensively and it all leads to boredom in the end. Especially when you're making someone else happy. The outcome of all these experiences I conclude to be pointless, apart from proving I am addicted to selfishness. I still draw a giant blank when I think about my life and everybody else’s. I think other people must be in denial if they think playing a violin, being a celebrity, preaching like a pope or running a country actually has a point in this vast universe. They're all artificial and abstract. The only mean anything to the artificial fabric of humanity. I mean we all engage ourselves in what are essentially meaningless activities for what reason? It only means something to us because we pretend it has. The universe doesn't care about humanity or idea about meaning. Great stars devour and destroy each other all over the universe. If nature wants to eradicate us with something like a huge volcanic eruption or if we do it to ourselves with global warming or GM foods it doesn't really matter. It doesn't matter if you are Mother Teresa, John Travolta, Tiger Woods, Mozart, Einstein or the nobody next door. Legacy ultimately stands for nothing apart from in the artificial minds of human collective memory. Ultimately nothing is fulfilling to anybody because whatever you and your society create will be loved and hated at the same time. Think of everything; population explosion, war, religion, politics, capitalism, consumerism, GM foods, drugs, antibiotics, pesticides, consumerism. It would take 8 planet earths to give everybody the same lifestyle that we have in the developed world and I'm nowhere near happy. The fact that so many people are starving in Africa, India and Indonesia is because they're growing food for us (those with money and power). Also because we're turning their worlds into desert through deforestation and water shortages so they can grow crops to support our artificial way of life; for us to have furniture and fuel for our cars. What a pointless world? Even if everybody had equal access to resources the point of living in the grand universe is still pointless. We are all in this rat run working jobs most of us hate to buy things most of us don't need. It's a living nightmare. So we may amuse ourselves with gadgets and technology other human life gets ignored. So what's the point? Collectively we are doing a pretty good job of destroying the only known environment for our future generations so there's no real purpose to our lives. Even if we did clean up our act for future generations, unimaginable events in the future are bound to wipe us out like the 99.9% of all previous life that existed on Earth that's now extinct. The Sun stops shining one day and we'll all cease to exist. If it's all hopeless then our existence is futile so what's the point. Any advice out there for somebody like me or am I just mad? moreResolved Question: what are the yogic way of evolution of human consciousness?

I am almost 40. I am 5'7" and weight 160 lbs. My metabolism has slowed down a fair amount. It is still pretty decent though. I got overweight recently and weighed 175. I lost fifteen pounds without much effort in about three weeks. I don't exercise, but I do practice yogic meditation for an hour and a half in the mornings before work. So, sitting still in a lotus posture like that takes more physical effort than you might think. Oh, yeah, I also eat Vegan. All this considered, what do you think is a good amount of calories to eat in a day. I am trying to get my weight down to about 150. That pretty much gets rid of any belly entirely. moreYogic News
