Resolved Question: Where can we get Yoga and meditation accessories in Chennai such as Neti pot and meditation mat?
moreResolved Question: I get the master bedroom when we move and I'm a teen girl?
What should I put in there?
I don't want my computer or studying desk in there because I'm trying to apply feng shui to my room. I was thinking of just having a bed, a tv ( that's the one thing I can't part with) my radio and a mat for yoga/meditation. What else do you think I would need? maybe some beanbags and a bookcase?
Or should I keep my studying desk in there, even tho I have an extra bedroom I could put it in.
Thanks :)
moreResolved Question: are yoga mats necessary for learning yoga ? I'm a beginner & need to know. I have thick carpet, will that help?
I am thinking of learning yoga, for chakra opening.
Can opening and cleansing the chakras be done without yoga? I don't want to run out and waste money on yoga, if I am not going to continue doing it. I'm not much into heavy workouts/ weights, and all that crap, because, truthfully,I hate to do it. I walk alot, but not in the excersize realm. I'm not lazy, just never liked to overly excersize.
Yoga seems like a great form to learn, no sweating, no heart rate and some meditations look really great. I like the stretching poses, too.
Any advice out there ??
Oh,and I have yoga clothes already.
thankx for all who take the time to answer :)
moreResolved Question: Where Can I meditate?
Ok, first of all I am on this new journey to better myself physically and mentally.
I take my Yoga mat to this public park that has a tennis/basketball court. Very cute, safe park but I am too uncomfortable meditating at this park.
I don't like other people to watch me, I found myself not able to escape into the happy place that my guided meditation cd tells me to go, because I am too worried about people staring at me.
Problem is, it's so peaceful and beautiful on the grass there it's an open space. I just want to meditate alone tho, as a beginner.
I can't do it at home because my mother and sister are currently living with me and my husband I have no privacy. At ANY time.
I work in an office 8-5pm, so not much sunlight left when I get out of work.
Must I wait 5 months until me and my husband move on our own?
I am realllly motivated to meditate at this time.
moreVoting Question: what sort of clothes should i wear for my informative speech on meditation?
Most people in my class will be wearing business sort of clothes- dressing nicely. But somehow that doesn't seem to be appropriate for a speech on meditation. My professor agreed and so I'm allowed to wear something different, but what I would normally wear doesn't seem appropriate either. I would normally just wear shorts and a tank top or loose pajamas because that's what normal people wear, but this is still a formal presentation. I asked people in my class what they envisioned people wearing when they thought of meditation and they said that it was hard to describe, but either a sort of pants and shirt outfit from India or China or they pictured a buddhist monk levitating in the lotus position lol so wearing buddhist monk clothes. I also received answers saying something from 1960's...but I'd rather not do my presentation as Raindrop Moonbeam. What I wanted to find was clothes like the ones the guy in this video is wearing, but I can't find them anywhere. Any suggestions? and yes, I know that most just wear regular comfortable clothes for meditation as I do and that you may feel I should simply dress authentically, but for this class presentation, I'm looking for something different.
http://www.anmolmehta.com/blog/classes-online/
the clothes this guy is wearing are simple and nice looking. i like them. also, do you know of any actual stores that carry zafus and other meditation stuff. I have a cheap round cushion that works alright. I don't want to order stuff online and I need to provide people with where they might find "further information". I have several websites, but I'm supposed to have a tangible place to suggest as well. Just a store that sells meditation supplies will do.
I know that there are going to be some people who will insist that meditation is completely free form and clothes, supplies don't matter, I'm going too far or whatever, but please just humor me. it's just for the presentation. when I'm home, I wear whatever I'm comfortable in which is usually whatever I was just wearing for yoga or exercising, I put some music on, sit on my cheap pillow I bought at Target which sits on my yoga mat etc. but all I'm trying to do is make my presentation look impressive. The information on the background and forms of meditation as well as everything else I've got in my speech will be accurate. Anyway, any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

moreResolved Question: Is it better to meditate on a meditation bench or using 2 yoga blocks to sit on it?
For some reason I can't sit on a lotus position so I purchased a yoga mat and 3 yoga block and I sit on the seiza position. I did that for 4 months and it was ok but not 100% confortable. I just ordered a meditation bench and got it today. I tried and WOW!!. I only meditate for 20 minutes and the result is fantastic. it will take me 1 hour to get the similar result using the 2 blocks. Why is that? Why am I getting so much well being with this bench versus the 2 yoga blocks? Thanks
moreResolved Question: Men: I need your advice on yoga/meditation?
What are good sites where I can learn Yoga or how to concentrate/meditate? Everywhere I go the sites are covered in fluff. Most are owned by females FOR females who mainly want to lose weight and such. I need a good method and advice to help me better deal with some serious stress. You know as a guy doing this in public and such typically is not considered masculine (I know I should not care, but I do) I just need to know how to go about living a better life and thinking more positively.
So far I read I need a dedicated space that is only for meditation? What if I don't have one? I am not able to have a Zen, I live with 3 other people. Men's Health mag is all I know that is for us men so I am confused. Do I need to go out and buy some yoga mats or what?

moreResolved Question: NEW Poll: Do you like?
...this prologue?
Aurora exhaled as she settled into her yoga mat, peacefully relaxed with legs crossed. She observed the meditation room; the pea-green walls clad with Zen Buddhist paintings. She reached for her universal remote and hit “play” on the audio setting, letting the sounds of waterfalls envelop her thoughts…
“Now,” she thought, “I’ll finally be able to escape.” But even then she doubted herself. She knew the harsh reality; she and her husband were both campaigning for presidency; he for the Independents, and she for the Democratic Party. And the results of who would represent each faction will be aired the next night, in their own living room and millions of others across the country, for all to see.
moreResolved Question: How to sit in meditation?
I can't feel comfortable on my bed, a mat or the floor. I sit in the traditional crossed legs pose.

moreResolved Question: Honestly speaking, where are YOU in these 7 types ? please give one reason for your choice.?
Ways of search for an ‘UNKNOWN REALITY’:
1. Christianity: PERSONAL BEING in the Universe existing externally Who Himself appeared as a man to reveal His Plan for the salvation of the SOULS of humans.
2. Islam: Similar to Christianity above ; a PERSONAL BEING in the Universe exists externally. However, He did not appear Himself as Son of God, and His Plan of saving SOULS of humans has to be accepted only in the way as they are stated in the Quran.
3. Hinduism: PERSONAL Status of God as Creator but He does not send prophets, nor declared a Plan of future. It is a person’s ‘karma’ that makes a person reach Heaven. The ‘Athman’ [= SOUL] creates its own Salvation to reach Brahman.
4. Buddhism: NON PERSONAL STATUS OF INTERNAL REALITY which Internal Reality is the same as the External Reality finally, discovered by contemplation and meditation into within the mind. The aim of nirvana is not a place as heaven, but a status, in which redemption NO SOUL is involved.
5. Agnostics: REALITY is discovered through LOGIC AND REASONING as science. NO EVIDENCE for GOD or SOUL so ignore them. [Einstein searched for an Ultimate Reality as Unified Field. Sigmund Freud and Abraham Maslow too searched for an ultimate ideal mental state of man as I see of their attempts.]
6. Atheists: REALITY [or Ultimate Reality] is discovered through logic and reasoning as science. DEFINITELY NO GOD, NO SOUL [Einstein searched for an Ultimate Reality in physics as Unified Field, but failed. As I see, Sigmund Freud and Abraham Maslow too searched for an ultimate ideal mental state of man.]
7. Scientific Thinking : As Agnostics Above
Judaism, Catholic faith, Protestents all I considered under Christianity and Islam. Taoism as nearly similar to Buddhism. Paganism a primitive one

Gentlemen Jack : Thanks for the responses. I want more mumber of resposes that's why. Thanks for all others too.
I have answered your question there too. To others like the Christians FAITH or BELIEF is more important than Logic and Reason. But to atheists and agnostics LOGIC and REASON is the method of coming to conclusions. . How can they come to conclusions without logic or reasoning.? Atheists point out "definitely no god" whereas the agnostics say "no evidence".
This was asked earlier too. I have asked it again only to get more responses. If you want to see the others' responses here it is: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Arirzx4xLzXA5M6s7Qc5iQjsy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20090719205813AAmURnZ
Thanks everyone for the contributions.
Ha ha ha ha --- and Give Perf: Sorry about my lack of knowledge I could have made Taoism a separate one. Judaism too the same. However, Christianity and Islam originated in the same Judaism so I dont see much difference. Luckily for me The Bahai, Sikhs, Zoorastrinists Mormons [even spelling I do not know ] etc. etc. have not seen this !
Shell: I do not understand what you have mean. if it is a definition of Christianity----- I took it in its ordinary meaning- Genarlaized meaning to cover all those who believe in Jesus Christ as their spiritual leader. .

moreResolved Question: Are prayers to Jesus and letters to Santa Claus a good comparison?
Besides the frequently brought up comparison that both are imaginary beings, it occurred to me that their means of communication have a lot in common too.
Kids write letters to Santa and very often do not get what they asked for (like the classic ponies for girls and guns for boys). Sometimes, though, they do get what they asked for albeit indirectly because the process of sending the message enabled an alternate agent, in this case the family, to know what they wanted.
Even though Jesus said MANY times in the NT that ANY prayer will be answered, they often don't. (Mat 17:20 is one example. If you don't believe prayers go unanswered, just try praying for something worthy but physically impossible like the amputated leg of a heroic soldier or fireman to grow back.) Still, in some cases prayers do SEEM to be answered but I propose that this is due to alternate agents and not divine intervention.
That alternate agent is the subconscious and the manner in which it operates. I can imagine several ways whereby this might work. The very process of praying might have positive benefits (e.g. peace of mind) similar to meditation. Similarly, the belief that responsibility is now out of the hands of the one doing the praying (i.e. in the hands of God) could bring a sense of relief. In parallel with these two, it is human nature for anxiety/worry to fade over time. A lot of "answered prayers" are probably the result of the anxiety fading away naturally during the period of time that a believer is praying for it to go away. Another natural process is for the brain to come up with solutions to problems IF allowed a few moments to chug through the issue. Prayer could be serving as a sort of "count to 10" time.
(All this prayer discussion applies equally to any religion. I mention Jesus specifically only because putting Him in the question line seems to get a better response around here ;)
Why does nobody ever read the additional details?!
Whoever Santa Claus and Jesus as we know them might have been based upon historically, my question is about the two as we now know them.
Everyone here who claims to always get what they pray for is either not asking for much, or not very critical in evaluating what they have "received". Which would be perfectly in line with the text of my question, but nobody is reading that. Why do I bother?
@fmko: the IDEA that a letter represents is no different to the IDEA that a prayer represents, metaphorically. In many cultures prayers are written on pieces of paper and burnt or posted on a shrine, etc.
@Grey Tower; thanks for reading it all! I'm certainly happy that your situation had a happy outcome, however I'm sure that you won't be surprised that I'm going to take the "fortunate coincidence coupled with natural processes" outlook on your story. As with any case supernatural intervention COULD be the answer, but when faced with the choices of "highly unlikely" vs "infinitely complex" Occam's Razor only leaves one possible explanation. Not to attack your faith any more than I already have, but are you familiar with the studies on the efficacy of prayer? Not too supportive of your proposition, I'm afraid... regardless of how it occurred, though, I am still happy for you. Cheers and thanks for the thoughtful response!
moreResolved Question: my boyfriend cries a lot... he seems too sensitive?
I don't know. Sometimes I tease him for little things. This hasn't ever been a problem with any of the friends I've had. It's just joking around. But he ends up mad at me or cries or both and then won't talk to me. We've been going out only like three months. The one time I got fed up cause he was ignoring me and I got upset with him ( =P i ended up throwing my yoga mat at him cause he still ignored me). I told him I was mad and then barely talked to him... and he started crying... and I couldn't be mean anymore. I was still mad but he was crying. Anytime he gets mad or cries I always end up trying to make him feel better. But when I got upset he just ignored me more! He always tries to make me out like I'm the bad guy. When he's mad he asks why I'm so annoying, that he has to deal with it all the time from everyone. My response to that is that he knows I have more to deal with but I don't get annoyed with every little thing. That he needs to learn to control his temper, learn control, try out meditation or something... he says he doesn't want to change. what do you guys think? I like him but I don't know if I can handle him mad at me so much... he doesn't seem to think he's angry at me so much b/c he gets annoyed just so often that he thinks it's normal.

moreResolved Question: Interfaith Weddings?
I am half Catholic, half Buddhist. My fiancée is ¾ Wiccan and ¼ Atheist.
We were hoping to have his Wiccan priestess bless the church before the ceremony, and have the altar set with symbols of his belief (goddess statue, wand, etc.)
I’d also like to have a meditation time prior to the ceremony.
Do you think it would be a problem if we pushed the pews aside to make room for the meditation mats?
moreResolved Question: What does it mean to be 'Spiritually Enlightened'? How do you know it is real?
There are so many different paths and most people are so lost. There are so many beliefs and schools of thought. Buddhish, Taoism, Zen, Sufism to name a few. Then there are the traditional religions and modern religions like Sikhism, Islam, Christianity, Hinduism, and the modern movements like Radha Soami or Sant Mat (including Ruhani Satsang and other offshoots).
All these are PATHWAYS that claim to take you to truth or God. The reality is very different. In reality, most followers simply remain followers all their life.
They may have the occasional vision or realisation - but they rarely achieve enlightenment.
What is the TRUE NATURE of Enlightenment? Does it require any EFFORT or SADHANA like MEDITATION or PRAYER to achieve this state?
What is the distinction between someone who BELIEVES and someone who KNOWS?
If you STRONGLY BELIEVE then you are CONVINCED and you believe you have the truth when in reality all you have is a BELIEF?
Is enlightenment a belief? How do you know?

moreResolved Question: Sales Rep. Give them territory or product like or both?
I am hiring sales rep for my luxury bedding line which includes: bedding, baby bedding, pet beds, products for spa salons (balnkets, pillows etc) and meditation mat.
I already have two candidates. I think I would like to have one more, 3 altogether.
Since I am a new company and do not have much money they will work only in our state (NY) and also maybe NJ.Cannot afford to pay traveling expenses now.
I am not sure how should I go about territory.
Is it better to give one NY, one NJ and let them try to sell all my product lines or separate their account by targeted markets (bedding, pet bed etc)?
If I have 3 sales rep. it will be hard for me to split the territory btw 3.... I think it would be better then give them accounts so each of them may focus better of one particular market (targeted segment bedding, pet pads etc) but then again one or the other may not like or feel like the other product is better to sell?
Thank you
