Open Question: Why is my lower back locked up?

I injured my back in High school doing dance and drill team.. For a few years my sacral area locked and tightened up and I suffered Sciatic pain that sometimes put me in tears. It since cleared up and I graduated college a year ago. So it's been about 6 years since I hurt it. I walked a lot in Vegas the other week and it started acting up then, I drove non stop for like 6 hours last night, I fell today and it's more locked up than I can remember in my life. I went to a chiropractor in high school who told me the primary injury was a twisted disc in my lower back and it would hurt for a year or so then heal itself. Does this seem like part of the first I jury revisited or a new thing. Should I see a doctor? Last time the chiropractor could do nothing for me but a massage and some electrotherapy.  more

Open Question: Is this a low ballet level for my age?

Okay, so this how we have levels in my ballet school: Dress-Up and Dance: 2-3 year olds Creative Movement 1 and Creative Movement 2: 3-5 year olds Primary: 5-7 year olds Preparatory: 7-9 year olds Level 1: 8-11 year olds Level 2: 11-13 year olds Level 3: 13-15 year olds Level 4: 15-17 year olds From Preparatory and up, we have Intensive classes. If you're really good, they put you in one of the classes in a higher level once a week. I'm in Level 1, non-intensive. My main ballet teacher wanted me to step ahead to Level 2 about half-way through the year, but she wasn't allowed. I'm 11 (turned 11 in late December) so I know I'm in the right age group. But a girl in my class at school is in Level 3, and she's more or less in the same age as me. :( It's kind of embarrassing to me that she's so good. So I want to know, is this bad for my age, or normal? Thanks!!! :) Also, the girl in Level 3 is on pointe.  more

Open Question: What laptop would you recommend for my needs?

I am in the market for a new laptop. I need a laptop that is small enough to be carried around all day, every day while I wade through nursing school for a couple more years. It needs to be capable, obviously, of basic word/powerpoint work. But I also work in Illustrator as a hobby and am a moderate gamer. I would need it to be able to easily handle the vector image creation in Illustrator and MMO and RPG games at moderate to high graphical settings. My current games include Dragon Age: Origins, Mass Effect 2, and when it comes out I'll be playing The Old Republic (yes, I am a Bioware fan). I have been looking at the Alienware M11x, which is great in its capabilities, I am just concerned that it is going to be too small, particularly for my vector work (though that is the lowest priority on the list of needs). The M15x is way to big, though (nearly 10 lbs for that beast). I do have have a desktop as my primary gaming/vector computer, but with the amount of time I'll be spending at school I'd like to have moderate capabilities in these areas. I guess my question is 2 parts: 1. Do you have experience with the M11x or equivalent sized laptop (11.6" 16:9 screen) and if so, is it comfortable enough for schoolwork/Illustrator work? 2. Do you have any other suggestions that will meet my needs?  more

Open Question: Which parent should raise the child in case of divorce?

I posted this question yesterday. I'm reposting it in hopes of getting more answers. Let me explain the situation: My gf and I are both single parents. She had her oldest 2 kids taken away from her by their father when they were young. She let them stay with their dad while she was going to school for nursing and he used that as ammunition to take primary custody. Now that her boys are older the teenager has moved back in with her. I am a single father because my marriage ended shortly after our child was born. My ex wife tried to keep my son from me; so I fought for and gained primary custody of my son (although only 51%). My gf and I was talking last night because my best friend is going through a custody issue. He has 43% custody of his child. The mother (who he put through school while they were married) wants to move to Northern California (6-8 hour drive) to get a Ph.D. which is a 6 year degree. She plans to move in with her boyfriend during this time, who also attends the same school. My friend will lose a significant amount of visitation and most likely will have his child support modified accordingly. He wants to fight for primary custody if his ex wants to move. His reasons are that his son has an existing social and support structure (both grand parents live out here). The mother will have no support structure, job, or place to stay (she will be a full time student living with her boyfriend). He also feels that there are comparable Ph.D. programs locally. They both live near UC Irvine. There is USC, UCLA, Pepperdine, LMU...etc. There are dozens of notable colleges in Southern California. The debate between my gf and I is that she feels that my friend is being controlling by preventing his ex from living her life and persuing her education where she wants to with her man. My feeling is that a father has a right to his child, and his ex is not thinking of her son by making the decision to move them away from the father when she can get the same (or better) education locally. And that this would be a different conversation if she was taking a job up there. I plan on sending this link to both my gf and my bestfriend...so please feel free to comment on all aspects of the question.  more

Open Question: Am I losing them forever?

Growing up, I knew I would always be friends with the same people. I had 3 primary best friends, two guys and one girl. In middle school, the girl moved away and came back a lot. I lost touch with her, which was horrible because I used to have a crush on her. The two guys were my absolute best friends, but by the time I hit high school one of them moved away, which made me cry. I don't even talk to him anymore. The other may go to a different high school next year for athletic opportunity. Then recently, my girlfriend was driving me home when I saw the girl from earlier. I smiled, but then saw her smoking and realized I didn't know her anymore. I started crying, not a big giant sob fest, but a few tears I failed to hide. Am I going to lose them forever?  more

Open Question: should i drop out of sixth form?

Well I am currently at the end of year 12 about to sit my AS exams in Sociology and English Lang and Lit combined. I was doing RE and Geography too but I dropped Geography in the autumn term and RE I am planning to do the second module in January 2011 if I stay on. I am also re-sitting my Maths GCSE module 5 this summer as I got a D last year. Just so you can make an informed decision I have currently got 3A 2B 3C and 1D GCSE results from last year A's in Geography English Lit and RE B's in ICT and English and C's in French, German and Biology. I got B's for the first module of Sociology and English AS and think I will probably get an A and a C respectively for them this summer. If I stay next year I will continue on with English and Sociology for A2, finish off my RE AS (I have already done the first module and got a D) and do HE (home economics) AS so all in all I will have 3 A levels. If I decide to leave with my 2 AS levels I will go to college and do a BTEC National Diploma in Children's care and Learning Development for 2 years which is equivalent to 3A Levels. I am not sure if I want to go to University at all really, I do not think I am going to apply this year as my head of year has said she will help me get a teaching assistant job at the local primary school and then I can maybe go to Uni a bit later. I think I want to do something with children, maybe social care or teaching and I do not want to rush into any decisions as I am not even 17 yet! Thanks for any help you can give about what you would do in my situation.  more

Open Question: Does anybody understand what a drain on our country illegals have?

"FAIR estimates the current local annual costs of illegal immigration from just three program areas — educating the children in public primary and secondary schools, providing medical services in emergency rooms, and incarceration — amount to about $36 billion. " 36 billion dollars annually is spent on illegals, the free services they use far out way the amount of taxes they would pay if they were legal. It is estimated that by 2020, they will cost us $106.3 billion annually. It's funny to me how some would rather cut defense spending, which would include pay for OUR military, than to try and get illegals out of our country. http://www.fairus.org/site/PageServer?pagename=research_localcosts  more

Open Question: Am I eligible to receive a medical marijuana card under the age of 18. READ?

As title says, is it possible for me to get a medical marijuana card under the age of 18? I am 16 and live in California. I have arthritis, multiple sclerosis, insominia(takes a long time for me to fall asleep), migraines, dizzyness, anxiety, high levels of depression, stress, severe back/spinal pain(from neck to waist, my whole entire back), severe neck pain, right shoulder stiffness, right ear pain, and I use to crack my bones everyday when i was 9-14 but now i stopped. I cracked every bone I could cause it felt stiff and relieved stress. Now ever since I stopped my bones are starting to hurt because they have deformed due to cracking them. I have tried marijuana a couple of times and it does help(no pain, less stress, and I can gain weight). I have had mutiple visits for my primary doctor, psychiatric, and sleep doctor about my illnesses. I also can't go to school because its so painful due to so many of my illnesses. I have had home visits from my school counselor and truancy counselor(those that help you to not ditch school, but I told them about my illnesses). My mother also calls the school telling them that im sick/unable to go. Now the school won't believe my mother because she has called in sick for so many days(about 95 school days called in sick) I have many doctor notes from my visits so now the school excuses me. I have not told any of my doctors about the idea of getting a medical marijuana card yet but I want to know if I am able to obtain a card. I know that this may be one severe case of multiple illnesses at a very young age, but it was all due to my fault. Well if any information is possible about getting a card under the age of 18 please help. And sorry for making you read a big paragraph. Thank you. Also please don't say your too young to do drugs. Marijuana is not a drug its a plant. I have researched and read books about marijuana and It is definitely the right medicine for me. I wouldn't take multiple types of pills for all my illnesses. I would use marijuana as my medicine to treat my illnesses rather than the pharmaceutical drugs. I would use something natural as medicine ratherthan something manmade full of chemicals. Sorry but thats just me. I also had 2 seperate MRI scans for my head and spine. I have multiple visits to my psychiatric about my anxiety, depression, and stress. I have also visited my sleep doctor a couple of times. So I have plenty of proof to be able to get a card. I need to know the steps to get it.  more

Open Question: Primary School Teachers ONLY! Is ICT an essential tool for teaching in UK Primary Schools?

I am currenly doing a Project at uni and was wondering what Primary Schools Teachers thought about the following, Agree or Disagree and why? The purpose of my project is to clarify the continuing argument, of whether ICT has revolutionised primary school teaching. To discover how and why ICT has assisted the primary school teacher with the planning and implementation of lessons. The project is also a discussion on ICT being time effective and beneficial in terms of providing a range of resources. An examination on how and why ICT is crucial for children in this current society. Your comments as primary school teachers would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time. Can you please state how many years you have been teaching and which lessons you use ICT to support teaching.  more

Resolved Question: Can you dye yellow fabric purple without stripping the colour first?

I have a bright yellow dress that I want to dye purple using dylon washing machine dye in 'intense violet'. I don't want to have to strip the colour first because the dye says not to use it on bleached fabric and if I have to buy pre-dye (their gentler, acceptable colour stripping concotion) it ends up working out too expensive to bother. My research has come back with conflicting answers; some say as long as the shade you're starting with is lighter than the shade you're dyeing it, you're ok. Others say you'll end up with whatever you'd usually get by mixing the two colours (and if I remember my primary school paint mixing lessons correctly, yellow and purple give you brown--which I definitely DON'T want). Can anyone provide any enlightenment?  more

Open Question: Will a Dell Mini 10n be powerful enough for me? (as a primary pc)?

My old PC is at the end of it's rope, so I'm looking for a new one. i'm thinking either a dell mini 10 with ubuntu, but i'm not sure it will be fast/powerful enough for what i normally do with my computer. My price range is around $700 or so... if i really needed to go higher i might be able to, but i'm looking for something in that range. I'm not currently too worried about the memory or the hard drive space because if i need more than 260 gigs i can get an external hd. but i'm worried about processor speed. WHAT I DO WITH MY PC: play music, watch streaming television, surf the net, instant messenger, word processing, etc. I tend to be that person who has 10-25 tabs open in my browser without meaning to, sometimes while playing music and using pidgin. i'd say that my biggest resource hogging programs are pidgin, rhythmbox, and chromium. i'm not into gaming or anything like that. it's just that i tend to have a lot of things running at once without meaning to. i need something small because i'm a college student and not only do i want to be able to take my pc to class, but also to be able to take it out of my apartment for a few hours sometimes when my roommates are loud. the size appeals to me so much on a netbook because i'd be able to easily carry it in my regular school bag. i also have kind of vision issues with my current laptop- the screen is so huge to me at 17 inches that it's hard for me to focus on it sometimes. not incredibly hard, but i think a smaller screen would work a bit better for me. definitely don't want to go more than 15 inches ever again.  more

Open Question: Why NCERT books still teach political doctrine called Aryan-Invasion theory to naive school children?

Primary students are gullible and they tend to believe whatever taught to them and books approved by govt. are generally considered authentic source. Therefore teaching such a rubbish theory should be avoided by the government. Instead of teaching them how to becme an "Arya", govt. is trying to teach them co*k and bully story of Aryan Invasion! First of all Aryan is not a race. No where in the vedas and other ancient Indian text is the terms Aryan used to refer to a race! How can then Aryans and Dravidians be two separate races? If Aryans had invaded India then why are Dravidians following the same customs and religion as aryans. How do they speak languages which originated from the same parental language, viz. sanskrit? Why dont any dravidian folk lore or ancient texts or sayings or stories or epics exist which talk about the so called Aryan invasion? Also why do the vedic texts talk about locations in South India? The Ramayana, Mahabharatha all talk about South Indian locations even below and beyond the main land of India into the Indian ocean like Srilanka! If Aryans were from europe and if they invaded North India and pushed local people down to South India, where did these locations come from? There is no mention of any location outside the mainland of India in any of the vedic texts! If aryans came from Europe, then why havent the so called aryans mentioned any of the european locations in any of the vedic or related texts? The farthest location away from India towards the west mentioned in the vedas is Kadhahar of present day Afghanistan, which was called Gandhar in the vedic texts and was said to be the kingdom of Shakuni. Why haven’t any of the texts mentioned about their European locations? Why is there no vedic text which talks about migration from Europe? None of the vedic texts talk about rivers outside India! Everybody knows that rivers were the major sources of water for all ancient civilizations and so all ancient civilizations were centered around the world’s major rivers. Why is there no mention of any European river or a river outside India anywhere in the vedic texts? Wouldn’t a race mention something or the other about its native place in at least one of its texts? River Saraswati proves to be a death blow to the Aryan Invasion theory. According to the Aryan Invasion theory the aryans who invaded India in around 1500 BC settled on the banks of Indus or Sindhu river in North India. Recent satellite images and geological excavations have proved the existence of a ancient river in North India, with exactly the same features of river Saraswati described in the vedas and Mahabharatha! Today Saraswati is a dried up river today. Before Saraswati dried up, the present Rajasthan was a lush green area! Now what does Saraswati river have to say about the Aryan Invastion theory of 1500 BC? Well, the geological excavations give a date of about 4000 BC for the drying up of Saraswati river ! EDIT - To what extent christian propagandists are responsible, who think that they know vedas better than hindus and then allege that Asurs were dravidians, when it is nowhere mentioned in vedas ! The vedas have declared that the virtuous, learned, unselfish, and pious men are called Aryas, while the men of opposite character such as docoits, wicked, unrighteous and ignorant persons are called Dasyus. In the face of these Vedic authorities how can sensible people believe in the fairy tales of the foreigners. Christian propagandists may also allege that King Ram was an Aryan and Ravan was a Dravidian when the truth is that Ram - Ravan war is called not by the name of Deva - asura war but by that of Raama-Raavana war or the war between the Aryas and Raakhasas in all ancient scriptures of Aryavarta.  more

Open Question: Having trouble understanding the Tinker V. Des Moines Case?

okay so i have to do this debate for this case. I am in the affirmative side, but i dont know really get the info like this: The Court's opinion noted that school officials had comprehensive authority to set rules in the schools but that this had to be done consistent with the First Amendment rights of students and teachers, who did not “shed their constitutional rights to freedom of speech or expression at the schoolhouse gate” (p. 506). Wearing an armband as a silent form of expressing an opinion was, according to the Court, “akin to pure speech” and involved “primary First Amendment rights” (p. 508). I got it off from answers.com and i am having trouble understanding it, can this piece help me? thanks  more

Resolved Question: Procedures to build Philippine school?

Both primary and secondary. And about how much will it cost? Please answer. :) Around the metro areas. I'm only in 9th grade here in the US, and planning to be doctor in the future. I don't want to be a principal or anything, I just like architechture and designing and most especially education and helping society. I had a pretty bad learning experience when I was there due to so many students in one class, the sun rays from the window in need of a curtain, and the white board was so far, and PE 'cuz it's more of brain learning than actual body excercise, which leads me to unnecessary subjects like computer (seriously), and religion. It seems that teachers run for money rather than the betterment of the students. I had to get a tutor and study by myself to actually learn the material, I had bad Filipino when I went there (now I'm more than fluent), they didn't treat non-english speakers well therefore they got below 50% grades. I don't want to stereotype schools there, but that was my highschool.  more

Open Question: How do i know if this girl likes me?(lesbians)?

Okay I'm a 17/18 lesbian Ive been out of the closet for about 3 months now but ive always been gay..well since i started high school 4 years ago i had been away with an illness for half of year 8 but when i got back it was about april that year and i made new friends with a girl and she was bi so we got along very well and we became best friends so me/her and my other bestie from primary who decided to come to the same school as me to we would pretend to kiss our hands and stuff like put there hands over my mouth and kiss there hand to make it look like we were kissing....so that was always fun but then i realized one day a girl i barely knew would sit with her friends and she would watch me and i caught her and looked at her and i felt this connection just by looking at her but from that day on i started liking her more and more and looking at her because she noticed me and i told my friends that i liked her and i knew she was gay but she didn't know yet i think she was confused then but then 3 years later she came out that she was gay to her friends and online i saw that she had a gf but they broke up at the end of that year but she would always watch me when i noticed her and one day at school i was walking around it was just her and a friend and she said to me "my name and that im straight" but she was looking into my eyes for bout 3 mins waiting for me to answer but i didn't i just smiled and ever since then shed say "hey, (my name) and look at me last year in class one day i said 'i thought id join a school committee and she was the captain of it" and she said to me 'its good im running it isn't it" and i giggled..and now the last few weeks once i was in her class she stared at me and she makes eye contact with me a lot and its like she goes out of her way for me to notice her but im really quiet and shy so its like i ignore her a little cause im nervous...but shes been with her latest gf for about a year now but they broke up the other day....and yesterday we made eye contact once and it was strong lol...so what im looking for is im not sure if this girl likes me or wants to be with me? whats your opinions?  more

I plan on sending this link to both my gf and my bestfriend...so please feel free to comment on all aspects of the question.  more

Open Question: I need help about confessing to a girl i like...?

Okay so there is this girl i like that i have known for around 9 years (since primary school/ 1st grade. We are really good friends and we talk loads, she sometimes flirts with me and i flirt back and when we hang out there is no word for it apart from amazing. She is beautiful, funny, good personality and all that i could ever want, and one night when we were talking about what we look for in partners, she pretty much gave a description of me, but she just doesn't know it.Only thing is that she is dating this guy and has been for a while, but keeps on admitting that she 'doesn't love him' and it's 'just for fun' which makes me think that eventually they will split up. Sure her boyfriend is an alright dude and i get along with him...in areas... ;) but he keeps on falling out with her and he is generally bad for her. I have told her what i think of him and that he is dragging her down, which if you knew her, you would notice. I'm thinking about telling her how i feel about her but we've been friends for such a long time i dont know if it will ruin our friendship since we get along so well, and there is also the problem that if i was going to tell her, when, because whenever it seems like she is going to break up with him, she forgives him for one reason or another, and it would be a bad thing to ask while she is dating him, however if i asked after they had fallen out it would seem like taking advantage of her =/ PLEASE help my, im really stuck P.S i would gladly do anything for her, she is amazing  more

Open Question: information about primary and secondary med school applications please help!?

so im currently an undergrad pre-med (biology major) and i plan on applying to med school next summer. i was wondering what i needed to include in my primary application versus the secondary application. also, i plan on taking summer classes next summer to raise my GPA (during the time i will start applying) and i was wondering if its a better idea to wait for my summer classes to end or apply as soon as possible. i can always send my updated grades to the schools im applying to in my secondary applications, right? but what if i dont get a response based on my primary applications (if my GPA is not high enough?) what should i do? im really confused...  more

Open Question: Almost 1m pupils speak English as second language, is it another cost labour forgot about?

"Some one-in-six pupils in primary schools speak another language at home, it was disclosed, double the rate a decade ago. In parts of inner-London, numbers now exceed three-quarters. MPs have also warned that a rise in the number of children born to foreign families puts extra pressure on reception places." I thought labour said mass immigration was just young skilled people who would then go home & not place pressure on services. It cost £5k per year per child in state schools, did labour forget to factor this cost into their perceived benefit of mass immigration? http://www.telegraph.co.uk/education/educationnews/7719738/Almost-1m-pupils-speak-English-as-second-language.html I'm mainly refering to tax, the rough cost to educate these kids is £5,000,000,000 per year - did labour take this into account when they worked out the 'benefit' of mass immigration? Mr S - yes that is total cost but I refer to labour saying mass immigration is just young people who will not use services, which obviously is not the case. So the benefit of them paying tax is negated by the costs. My question was did labour forget to factor in these costs when they said mass immigration is a benefit. I would have thought the figure I gave (£5k x 1,000,000) was obviously total cost? I did state it costs £5k per child per year in state education. Mac - only time will tell. DS a cost/benefit anaylisis. It's a simple accounting tool. It's like I do not go out and buy a £30k car as the cost out weighs the benefit I will get from it - simples. I think you confuse 'bitterness' with frustration with labour's financial ineptness. kayamat_ka_din, it's 2010 not 1680, the world has changed. Prof I know that but EU immigration is 40% of total immigration.  more

Open Question: What do you think about this?

I am a 32 year old male living in the UK. I went to a state primary school and a private secondary school and didn't like either especially the latter school. Because I was quiet people tended to avoid me and this really hurts to this day. Also I just felt so alienated by the whole school life environment. I did like learning however but I did miss out on social skills really. If someone said to me now what would you rather have, 1 million pounds or to have had a normal school life and growing up I would say the latter ! It just shows you money can't buy everything. thanks  more

Open Question: did i do the right thing or was i to harsh?

my sister, right, just turned 12 and im 15 and a half, we have never been to school together expect at primary school, she is in grade 7 and im in grade 10. if she ever saw a picture of girls on my phone, which was on two ocasions, she would go on about it forever, treating me like a little 10 year old, even though i am much more mature than her, and i do show it. am boarding here at this school for 5 months and now she is coming to board with me, i sent her a message before she came, and i told her clearly something like this, "sis, that girl on the phone is just my friend, stop pesking me about it, its been 3 months, stop being obsessed with my life, get off of me, im 15, ok? i talked to women, im atracted to women, stop treating me like a little kid, and also you beter not follow me everywhere too often." the conversation went longer then that, but that prity much sums up all that ive said i know she is still a little kid, but the way she goes on and on, i just cant stand it. but still she is plenty old enough to understand me. ok, then, my mistake, i ment girls. please only comment if you have siblings, and thanks for the answers so far.  more

Open Question: American school system? timeline?

I was having a discussion with a friend earlier this week about the American school system (we're from nothern europe) and we couldn't seem to agree. So I'm asking: at what age do you attend which grade and what is the "name" of that grade (sophomore, junior, senior etc.)? What is primary and secondary education? please include information about pre-school/kindergarden (is there a i difference?) and all the way up the system as high as you can get (college, university etc.) I get that not all people attend it at that specific age, but please add a general "timeline" :-) thanks :-)  more

Open Question: Which (short) paragraph is more catchy?

(BTW, I asked this before, but I need more opinions, its urgent :)) So, I'm writing a story at the moment, and I have an opening paragraph that suggests what the story will be about, but I have two choices and I don't know which one is better. Here's some brief details of the story: 'Two best friends (both guys) have been rivals ever since primary school. They would compete each other on almost everything: school work, sports and socially. One day, they saw a hot girl and they made a bet on who would get her first. And in order to do that, each of them both will play some tricks and do whatever it takes. It's only meant to be a game for fun, but eventually one of them seriously falls for the girl, and now he is confused and doesn't know what's what anymore.' (sorry if it's a bit cliche, but this story is purely for entertainment purposes :)) So, I have two choices of them. I wanted them short and precise, so here you go: 1) Two men bet on a girl. "That babe's mine." When James and Dimitri set their eyes on the prize, they would take it down at all cost. In this little skirt-chasing game of theirs, betrayals, hook ups and drama all spiral up into one big hurricane. 2) Richelle is the prize of the game. Two men will strive to claim her, but only one will succeed. When betrayals, deceptions and lust occur, nothing is ever as it seems. Please help me! No haters please :) by the way, the boys are in their senior year of high school :)  more

Open Question: Someone sexually harassed my best friend, and we don't know who it was? What do I do?

Ok. We're not the kind of girls who get involved with this kind of thing. We are both from good families and we're both well educated and stuff. I promise you, this is NOT something that happens to people like us. So we're both 14, in year 9 at school. She went on this school trip the other day to a local space center. I was ill that day so I didn't go. But apparently there was this pitch black hallway that you have to go down to reach one of those motion-cinemas, you know, the ones where the seats move? There were only 25 people (24, actually, because I was at home) from our school there and one male science teacher. But there were people from other schools too, I think around our age. As she walked down this hallway, someone tripped her by the leg. She stumbled forwards, but someone else caught her. One of them groped her from behind, and then the other kissed her full on. She didn't tell anyone that day (because there was no one there who she felt particularly close to). So she told a few people this morning. There was Emily and Livi, who she gets on the bus with. Emily and her are really close friends - Livi just happened to be there. She was also on the science trip but Nancy didn't tell her at the time. Livi has a habit of making big deal out of things. So this morning, Nancy came up to me and gave me the biggest hug. She said that she was 'attacked in the pitch darkness', but I couldn't tell whether she was serious or not. She said she'd tell me later. My other friends Meria and Danni were there too. So in form, we sit in this little group of 4 - her, Meria, me, and a guy friend of ours, Alex. She told us then. I think she was mainly telling me and Meria, but she wasn't bothered by Alex being there because he's a pretty good friend of ours. Meria kind of unthoughtfully laughed, but Nancy was smiling a little too. She's a very open person, and is never embarrassed by anything. But I just stared at her with my mouth open, and Alex stared at me with a strange expression on his face as if to ask how he should react. Since then, I've not pushed her for information, but she said that at least one of the boys was taller than her - and she's tall. She says she also thinks it was someone from our school. This has narrowed it down to a very small number of people - hardly anyone is taller than her, and those who are are quite distinctive also. But other than that, she has no idea who it was. Now I have a slight hunch, but I've not spoken to her about it yet and I'm really not sure whether it's true... but just today, we found out that a boy called Harry 'likes' her. This is kind of weird because... well, we know him, but we're not like... we don't hang around with him often. He sits next to me in French. And on the other side is his best friend, Ryan. Ryan is tall. Taller than Nancy. And Harry is just a little taller than me (I'm short). Both of them were on the trip. But thing is, I went to primary school with Ryan, and I know him quite well. It's really, REALLY not the kind of thing he'd do, and from what I know of Harry, not him either. But still... people change. So you can see where I'm coming from. She doesn't seem majorly distraught by this... but how can she not be?! Someone KISSED her, and more besides! I know I'd be. I don't think she's told her mum. I don't know... should I just leave it or what? I don't know what to do. Ironically, she is actually called Nancy. But can we please be a bit more serious? I mean, its a pretty serious thing...  more

Resolved Question: the headteacher don't believe my child is being bullied... and cover the bully!?

we are in england so my child is being bullied for more than 4 months now and this headteacher amazingly does not want to "believe" my child and saying that is being paranoid!!! there is eye witness but the mums don't want their kids to be involved in this matter, probably the headteacher is something to do with it... i really think it is unfair the bully never has been worried and he is still aggressive, and the actual mum of this bully is a youth worker and is protected by the headteacher! the staff of this primary school is backing up the headteacher, so i found myself and my kid alone against them all! i decided to complain to the school governor but what kind of chance do i have if i have no witness and everyone saying the kid is "lying"!??? the actual bully is going to secondary school next september so they probably don't want to put anything onto his school file!? actually the mum'children who witness the bully did not want to get involve anymore, because the headteacher maybe talked to them about it or they are afraid of "something" they are scared to face this headteacher for some reasons and they told me to don't say the name of their children as witness of the bully! and the bully actually forced my child to sing for him and mocking and pushing! in my argument with the headteacher he suggested that i probably want to change my child school which i say i will not change the achool!  more

The mother thought she should tell her daughter, specially if she wakes up one day and didn't find her mother beside her... so she told her: "Bar`ah I will go to paradise ahead of you, but I want you to read the Quran you memorized every day since it will protect you in this life..." The little girl didn't really understand what her mother was trying to tell her... but she started feeling the change in her mother's status, especially when she was transferred to stay in hospital on a permanent bases. The father got out of his car, with tears filled in his eyes and while crossing the road to enter the hospital, he was hit by a speeding car and died in front of his daughter who came crying to her father...! The tragedy of Bar`ah is not over yet... the news of her father's death was hidden from the mother, but after 5 days the mother passed away leaving Bar`ah alone in this life. She become alone without her parents, and her parents' friends decided to find her relatives in Egypt so that they can take care of her. Suddenly, Bar`ah started having sever pain like her mother, after a few tests and checkups it was confirmed it was cancer... at the surprise of every one she said: "Alhamdu Lillah, now I will meet my parents." All of the family friends were shocked and surprised, this little girl being faced with calamity after calamity and she is patient and satisfied with what Allah ordained for her! People started hearing about Bar`ah and her story, and a Saudi decided to take care of her... he sent her to the UK for treatment of this disease. One of the Islamic channels (Al Hafiz - The protector) got in contact with this little girl and asked her to recite the Quran... and this is her beautiful voice with recitation... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NnNS9ID9Ecw They contacted her again before she went into a coma and she made dua for her parents and sang a nasheed... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yD5S-jtxFls The days passed by and the cancer spread all over her body, the doctors decided to amputate her legs, and she is patient and satisfied with Allah's ordains... after a few days the CANCER spread to her brain, upon which doctors decided for another urgent brain surgery... and now her body is in a UK hospital in full COMA... So pray for her health and speedy recovery... Another recitation... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gkIO02s6Ywg Salaam xx I honestly wouldn't bother with youtube links - but this you have to hear...one of the most beautifulest voices I've ever heard and ever will. I'm off to bed (I was reminded of this as I broke down telling my parents this...and I thought you lot should now about this story) Salaam @BT Ameen!  more

Open Question: Would you vote for one candidate who attacks an Alabama Gov. GOP Primary opponent for believing in Evolution?

http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/0510/Alabama_candidate_denounces_lie_that_he_believes_in_evolution.html?showall Evolution has obviously been a political issue for a while, but I'm not sure I've ever seen an attack ad like this one before: It mocks a candidate for the Republican nomination for governor of Alabama for believing in the theory. The outraged pushback from candidate Bradley Byrne: "As a Christian and as a public servant, I have never wavered in my belief that this world and everything in it is a masterpiece created by the hands of God. As a member of the Alabama Board of Education, the record clearly shows that I fought to ensure the teaching of creationism in our school textbooks. Those who attack me have distorted, twisted and misrepresented my comments and are spewing utter lies to the people of this state."  more
