Vancouver Condos Questions and Answers
Open Question: brothels in Vancouver?
I know that they are illegal, but does anybody know if there are decent illegal brothels near downtown. Have been told to go to strip clubs and pay extra, or check out condo blocks, but I want someone who has been, or actually knows. A price would be good to, and only recent information please. moreVoting Question: Buying a home/ Job Security?
Hi there, I need to move out of my parents house. It's driving me crazy to live here and i want to be independent and own a place of my own. I'm very dedicated and smart enough to buy a home, but i am worried about my financial status. First off i am currently job hopping in the construction industry (Nothing over 40k a year) I believe i can find a job if i lose my current one. But if i was to buy a home now and later find myself unable to obtain any source of income, what are the risks? I'm ready to jump into this and was wondering if any of you have been in this situation and experienced it first hand? I'm living in Vancouver, BC Canada and am looking for a decent 1 bdr Condo/Apt. Do banks offer this kind of help btw? moreResolved Question: Is Vancouver a nice place to live?
Im looking for a fun place with lots of stuff to do. I would like a condo by the beach as well. Is Vancouver a good enough place in canada? moreResolved Question: For how long should we go to Vancouver?
I have friends in Vancouver (a married couple with a baby) and after begging my boyfriend for 5 years to go and pay them a visit, he finally agreed. I got a bonus recently so I said that the plane tickets were my treat. He wants to go for 4 days, i want to go for 5. He doesn't really want to go, but he agreed just because i won him over by being cute. The only plane ticket i found (and most affordable) was $480 and both ways are overnight flights which works great going there since are flying from the East coast but sort of messes up coming back because we end up arriving East at 7 am and it kind of ruins the day. We are staying in a room in a condo with no tv. My boyfriend loves his tv. What do you think I should do, cave in and just go for 4 days and go for 5 days since we are traveling across the continent and plane tickets are expensive? moreResolved Question: We are looking to rent a condo short term in Vancouver, BC. Any place safe for earnest $?
Any ideas on this? We are looking to rent a condo in downtown Vancouver, BC this summer, and the landlords just want us to send our money for earnest deposit to them. As an American Realtor, I am curious what experience others may have in this. Should I ask for an escrow account at a title company? I don't want to offend them, but maybe you understand,.... moreResolved Question: how can I meet a man I am a young 60 but arthritis has slowed me down?

I'm living in Coquitlam, BC. Right outside of Vancouver. Thinking of buying a new place to live. Please give me some feedback! =] moreVoting Question: Why do all Vancouver high-rise condos look the same.?
Vancouver, Canada. moreVoting Question: Which one is better for investment: Vancouver real estate or toronto real estate?
I have about $100 to put as downpayment for a 2 bed condo as an investment. My limit is $400,000. My goal is to get something that appreciates in value the most in the future. Which city do you think is better for condo real estate investment? Vancouver or Toronto? moreResolved Question: What is Toronto like?
Hi I am a international student from Korea, and I am attending high school in Vancouver. i am thinking of going to U of T for university. What is toronto like? What entertainment do they have? How much is renting a basement or a condo? Is it expensive? Is there lots of asians? Or is it mostly white there? How long does it take to go to NYC,Montreal,Kingston, and Boston? Thank You moreResolved Question: My wife says I'm being childish and immature... Am I?
From my wife's divorce to her ex, she received the two things she wanted - her properties and her son. We have only been married for 3.5 months, but we dated for two years. We're really happy. We have a few arguments here and there, but we're learning and growing together as we go. My wife and I live in Vancouver. She is originally from Vancouver Island where her family and close friends live. We have been talking about our trip to Tofino (on the island) to see her best friends. She has a beach house there with whom she used to own with her ex. I have an issue staying at the beach house and, quite frankly, do not want to stay there. It's like staying at the place she once called home with her ex and son. I don't think I'm being immature, I would just rather not... She then suggests I can stay at her condo in Tofino. Does she not get it? I don't want to stay under a roof provided by her ex. I have nothing against him, but I can provide for myself. I know I've hurt feelings quite a bit.. Am I wrong here? If I am, I would like to face this and fix it. I think she should just understand how I feel. moreResolved Question: Is better to sell your condo by appointment or have an open house?
Have 2 cats and have arthritis,so I can sit in the lobby while showing, cats usually hide. I am using 1 realter to both sell and help me buy a new place I am in Vancouver he is in Maple Ridge. He prefers by appointment.Need quick sell. moreResolved Question: West Vancouver? Whats life like there?
I currently live in White Rock. I go to a private school in Vancouver, so I won't be changing schools. My dad, has suggested that we should downsize to a smaller house, he wants to move to West Van. We would be moving into a condo. I know it's expensive, but that's all I really know. I have some friends that are from there, they all love it. So what is West Van, like to live in? Also are the public high schools good there? My brother would be entering grade eight next year, so he would be going to high school. The schools in White Rock are great, so I hope they would be good there too. Were planning to spend around 1.5 million, will that get us a nice condo? Any other info on West Van, would be great. I think we are looking at Ambleside, to move to. moreResolved Question: Is Vancouver an economically stable place to relocate to from Ontario?
I am a new health care graduate from Ontario thinking of relocating myself to Vancouver. My main draw is the beautiful climate and surroundings. I would like to know what people think of the current economy/job market state and future of the city. I have been told that it's a great place and I have also been warned that post-olympics the economy will crumble more because the city will have to pay off the Olympic debts. I see that there are MANY residential properties for sale and it makes me wonder if people are generally 'fleeing' or leaving Vancouver. I have seen a few job postings in my field, more than in Ontario. Is it possible to make ends meet in Vancouver - ie. own a condo/home and car and maintain some savings, on lets say a predicted salary of $65-75K for a new grad. I have some student loans and no major savings to put down on a place at the moment. moreResolved Question: Is Toronto or Vancouver a better place to live?
This must've been asked a million times on here, but I have to do it. Toronto or Vancouver? I need to decide between the two because I'm moving from Montreal in about 18 months. I've been to both places MANY times. Vancouver has a better climate, less pollution, near the ocean. But Toronto has lots of diversity, its a bit cheaper than Vancouver to buy a condo, and its fairly close to NYC. Any good things about the two that you can think of? I'm still very undecided. I have more family out west though, so that will be a contributing factor. Also, BC's income tax rate is quite a bit lower than Ontario's. Well I like the busy life style. And I'll be working, but my time will be spent studying medicine at UBC or U of T. moreResolved Question: To tip or not to tip during the holiday?
I'm new to Vancouver & it's downtown condo living. During the holiday, should I tip or give gift to the building regular concierge/security man? moreResolved Question: Moving out for the first time in Summer 2010; any tips/advice?
My sister and I are planning on moving out this summer. (We live in British Columbia) Any general tips/advice? Also, what is a good area to move to? (we were thinking vancouver, burnaby, or coquitlam) Something near a sky train station. Also, how should we go about finding an apartment/condo? What sort of stuff could we be forgetting about (ie. apartment insurance, etc.) I feel very overwhelmed. Please help =) moreResolved Question: How do I find a room/condo/house to stay for Vancouver Olympics?
Need a place to crash for 3 nights Need a place for 3 nights, and more concerned about reliable contracts than price. I am not Canadian, so it would be a bummer to arrive in the country and have the deal fall through. Craigslist is not reliable, especially for international contracts. I would rather pay 500 a night for a room and a peace of mind. Another thing I forgot to mention is we may have kids with us (have not really decided who gets to use the tickets), so we need decent family friendly places. moreResolved Question: how do pre nups, alimony, common law etc work?
I have a friend who just moved into a condo his gf purchased. They are calling it theirs but she is really the one who bought it and is making the mortgage payments. So right now they are common law but they do plan to get married. She makes much more money that he does. Basically I am wondering how it works. If they split, is he entittled to any of her assets if they are comon law or do they have to be married? ALso Is it only the woman who get compensation if she divorces her man? Is it dependant on who files for divorce or if both do? I seem to think that it is the woman who gets compensation all the time and the man gets nothing even if she is the one with much more assets and net worth. Is this true and if so isnt that sexism? I am just wondering as he does not think these things through and also he is not with her for good reasons obviously. Thanks for any info. By the way we live in Vancouver Canada, the laws differ from place to place. moreResolved Question: What color laminate floors go well with light wooden colored cabinets and light brownish granite counter tops?
The kitchen is the exact same colors as the ones in the websites below. I'm planning to change tiles and get laminate flooring. What colors would work well? My preferred-theme is dark-brown, but not sure if it works with the lighter colors of the kitchen... http://www.portmoody-new-condos.com/listing/V784426.html http://jaybanks.ca/vancouver-condos/port-moody-mls-V788089.php http://www.portmoody-new-condos.com/listing/V787350.html moreResolved Question: Is there a place on the Internet where I can post/submit my review on the Developer in Vancouver BC?

Getting a cell phone. 5. Opening a bank account. 6. Job search, I'm a Human Resource Management Specialist with 17 years of experience. 7. Now for vancouver toronto and Montreal i want to know something im going to move from miami to Grand Rapids,Michigan or one of those citys and i want to now that if im a cop which of those cities are more dangerous? and which is harder to make a living in? also for those 3 i want to know do you have to live in a condo or can a cop aford a house in those cities? moreResolved Question: A few questions about Vancouver, Canada?
i'm from pennsylvania, so i'm pretty far away from Vancouver, but in three years i'll be done with college and i hope to more there, or somewhere close. i was wondering what it's like living in Vancouver, if you've ever lived there or visited. also, how is the job market? is it expensive to live there? i probably plan on living in a condo or something like that. this is long, so could you just tell me everything that you can about living or just visiting Vancouver? moreResolved Question: what is your most romantic story?
mine is I worked in an office building as a janitor once in my early 20's and i had this crush on this junior accountant she was at least 10 years my senior but she was simply Hot and i wanted to ask her out but i was too shy and I thought she would look down on me because i was a janitor. so one day out of the blue she walks up to me and says - "I hear you think I'm hot and you want to ask me out" well i was just speechless.. she said "in this world you have to go after what you want or you wont get it, so ask me out?" so studdering i asked her "Wwould you like to go out with me sometime?" "Where?" she asked impatiently. "The HSBC festival of lights then we could get a bite to eat." she coldly said "No.. but at least you asked and now you can move on" I felt like a dear caught in headlights. my self esteem was shot then she turned around walked over to me and kissed me on the lips and whispered "call me" she handed me her card. and we met at her condo which was right downtown Vancouver so we were able to see the fire works anyway and to my surprise she even cooked dinner herself. we laughed and talked the entire evening. we didn't sleep together but i think that is what made it romantic. we took lunch together everyday after that well we kissed a few times but we never really dated we were good friends then i moved to a new job moreVoting Question: Are bachelor suites difficult to sell?
I am thinking of buying a bachelor suite in Vancouver. In 2.5 yrs I plan on moving to a smaller community due to the fact I would be able to afford a bigger better place and start my own business for a lower cost than what a house would cost in Vancouver. I will make around 75-85K/yr in my remaining time in Vancouver and the places I am looking into are around 230-350. I don't think I need the additional space of a one bedroom. Also a lot of the buildings seem to be from the 1950-60s and have significant monthly condo fees ~$350. moreResolved Question: Im an international student here in vancouver. Parents are interested in buying house.?
Or condo/apartment here in vancouver so that we dont have to pay rent everymonth and they would have a place to stay when they visit us. So what do they have to do? are there any rules or restrictions for foreigners to purchase a house? Thank you. moreResolved Question: is there any good reason not to buy a condo in The Olympic on 2nd St in North Vancouver?
I'm about to close a deal buying an apartment in the Olympic building on E 2nd St in North Vancouver. Would anyone know if there's any trouble that I should be aware of or details to pay attention to? moreResolved Question: Why do I need a Canadian Temporary Resident Visa?
My wife and I (both US Citizens) rented an apartment in Vancouver in April, 2008 for weekend and holiday use. I did a lot of research about seasonal residents in Canada and we found did not qualify for a seasonal type of residency permit because we did not own the Condo and the lease was less than three years. After returning to the states from the visit where we rented the apartment, I called the "Call Centre" and asked what I should do about bringing personal effects into Canada for personal use in the Condo (I bet you regulars are probably laughing and saying "big mistake" right about now). He said make a list of the items, explain to the IO what the goods are for (the apartment) and they might make me register the items and when leaving prove I've taken them with me. So we pull up to the border at Douglas and explain to the IO exactly as described above, and was quickly asked to pull over to the secondary inspection area. Inside we were grilled separately by IO as to our intentions; I guess they thought we were moving up there. After a couple of hours of "fun under fluorescence", they called us over and issued us Temporary Resident Visa's, explaining to us we needed to provide documents to Immigration to renew it within the next 6 months. To tell you the truth I didn't know why we needed these Visa's, we didn't want to be temporary residents in that way. But we were so stoked to get out of the office we gladly agreed with him and made our way to Vancouver. During the first 6 months of our visiting back and forth we'd usually get quizzed at the border by other IO as to why we were issued this record to begin with. One agent said it was a good thing cause you are in the "system" if you ever decide to become PR's. I saw it as having to spend 150 bucks every six months to apply for something I didn't need! So after 4 months I filed an extension, and after the standard delays the visa was renewed. In the meantime we got Nexus passes and then stopped seeing the IO's so life was good. Until now? Our second application for the visa extension was just denied today. WTF? They sent me a letter saying the agent didn't think I satisfied the requirements and that if I hadn't left Canada I needed to immediately. No problem, I am back here in the states, but NOTHING has changed since my first extension request. I still have my US house, job, family here. Which leads me to my questions: 1) Why did I need this to begin with? I think know... they wanted to keep tabs on us. 2) Why did they just reject me? 3) If I want to go to Vancouver next week for my friends Birthday am I still allowed to enter the country? I don't think I've been deported!?!? 4) Assuming I have not been deported, and since a US Citizen can enter Canada for a period of up to six months, am I losing anything by not getting this visa extension approved? If so, should I reapply? Thanks for reading this and if you have any advice I'd appreciate it. All I want to do is visit Vancouver and not stress over this. moreResolved Question: Condo insurance through BCAA ...?
I'm shopping around for condo insurance in Vancouver as I'm not 100% happy with Allstate (their coverage increased this year considerably for some reason). BCAA Insurance is an option that I looked at, and was about 35% less than Allstate and RBC Insurance... As far as I can tell I'm comparing apples to apples so I'm wondering if I'm missing something since it's so much cheaper. Does anyone have any knowledge or experience w/ BCAA insurance? I realize it's impossible to truly answer this question without more details, but I was hoping to just get some general feedback if anyone has had any dealings/experience with BCAA Insurance. Could the lower cost be because they have more restrictions when it comes time to a claim.. that sort of thing. Thx moreResolved Question: What is the Hotel or Condo name that was in the news(?) a few years ago?
I know it has been awhile since I bet anyone has seen the news or read the paper of this hotel/condo in Vancouver, Canada. However I was wondering if anyone could tell the name of it. On the news a woman or man, made previews of new hotels or condos coming in the year of 2007-2009. (I cannot remember the year). I remember some descriptions of a particular one I liked, but never caught the name of it. It had a spectacular view of the ocean-- if you got that room--like many hotels/condos. The bathroom was very cool. The bathtub was right there with no curtains or anything. Fortunately that didn't need to be a worry, since it was one way glass. The hotel I think--when you look at it--looked like it was made of glass, but you could never see what was on the inside. Unfortunately, that is all I remember, but I do know that the hotel was expensive--obviously--and had great view of the ocean, and sunset. moreResolved Question: Stores that carry combo washer/dryer unit in Vancouver/Victoria?
I've looked everywhere (sears, futureshop, homedepot, etc.) in Victoria and Vancouver for a store which carries the combo washer/dryer units which can be used in apartments/condos. One example is the LGWM3431. Basically any combo unit which needs 110v and has a ventless dryer is ok. I looked everywhere and couldn't find a local store which carries them. I don't want to order something online (unless someone knows of an online place in canada which does inside delivery). moreResolved Question: My fiance wants me to move into the woods....?
Ok, so my fiance and i have been together for 5 years and we have two young kids. He has always been into "country living". His friend has said that he would like to sell his condo and buy some land in the BC interior (Canada). And its cold there! It snows sometime 8 months a year! I'm lucky on Vancouver island because i think its the tropics of Canada, it is strange for me to see more than a week of light snow. Anyways, my finace and his friend want to buy some land out in the wildness and be pioneers or whatever. They want to chop down trees and build homes, grow our own garden for food, use solar energy and get our water from a creek. We'd have no running water, no flushing toilet, no corner store, no school for the kids, no hospital, police, etc.. nothing. We'd be completely self sustaining. Now i'm sure we'd be close enough to drive an hour or more to get to civilization, so we wouldn't be entirely isolated. I hate this idea! I've said i don't want to, its alot of work to go pioneering, raising kids, livestock, growing a crop large enough to live off of and among all the things i've left out, they'll be 10 feet of snow too. I'm peeved that he's so into this plan that he told his friend that if i don't want to do it, that he will go anyhow. Do you think i should give it a trial run just to be fair? Or should i stick to my guns and say no freaking way! We live on my grandmothers hobby farm right now, we have a greenhouse and some chickens of our own, so i'm somewhat experienced with it. Another thing is that he doesn't often help with much, so i know it would be me doing most of the work up there. He's one of those government haters, want to gets off the grib, away from brain washing schools and opressive police. These are not my opinions. Also, there are a lot of wolves, cougars and bears up there, which terrifies me. My children are 3 and 1, and i would really worry about our safety up there. moreResolved Question: where is the greatest area to live in toronto for a young female entrepreneur and her son?

I AM PLANNING TO GIVE TORONTO A TRY FOR ABOUT 6-8MONTHS AND IF I LIKE IT, GREAT...IF NOT, IT;S BACK TO BC THEN FOR ME. PLEASE ADD ANY INFO YOU THINK THAT WILL BE HELP FULL FOR ME. THANKS A MILLION!!! moreResolved Question: I'm having lunch with a friend that I have NOT been getting along with... Advice?
So I hope I can sum this up as simply as possible..... Back in June my bf and I paid for our friends (they are in a relationship) to move here to Vancouver from Ontario with us. They didn't have the money but really wanted to come here for a fresh start, so being their friends we figured $1000 we would lend them until they got on their feet and could pay us back. So not only did we pay $1000 to them to come here, but we also moved from our 1 bedroom condo to a dingy basement of a house that quite honestly was really depressing, having 4 adults and their dog living in a space big enough for 1 person. (We did this because they couldn't afford the rent right away and we couldn't afford to pay 2 rents so we lived together to cut costs temporarily). So for almost 3 months we lived with them somehow we ended up paying their rent, buying all the groceries, buying cigarettes for them and alcohol. Basically everything they needed to live comfortably. All in all we hated this but we did it because they are our friends and we wanted company too. But the boyfriend wasn't working, his gf was working 2 jobs and really struggling. My bf ended up hiring him at his work because he is the boss, although he didn't really want to because business and friends shouldn't really mix. So long story short, after the boyfriend finally got a job at my boyfriends work, we were all hanging out 1 night at their house and the boyfriend said "Once I get enough money from working I'm going to Mexico for vacation" (keep in mind he JUST got hired and it is now November, he has been here since June and hasn't worked yet until this point). My boyfriend (being his boss) said "Look bud, friends or not, you can't just get enough money to go to Mexico and go, you need to put your time in... and thats that." He then responded and said "I don't care what you think, when I get the money I'm out of here, fire me I don't give a S**T!" My boyfriend was extremely upset, he had already put his position on the line by hiring a friend let alone all the other crap we had done for him. It turned into a shuving match when the friend fell back and slipped on a chair breaking his leg! (This was really upsetting) So since this point they have decided they HATE my boyfriend saying he is all abusive and stuff, meanwhile I was there and it was TRULY a slip more then a fight... wrong place wrong time (not trying to justify). So since then not only did they decide to hate me but the girlfriend (my best friend from before we ever met our boyfriends) decides she hates me too now because she doesn't "respect" my decision to be with my boyfriend of 2 years? Like how did 1. I get dragged into it and 2. after everything we did for them and never got a thanks, one incident and I get the flack for it???????? So I haven't spoken to her since that night merely because I am appauled she would just shut me out... and the fact she "doesn't respect my decision". Well I just got a call from her today at work out of no where saying "Hey I was wondering if I could meet you at work and we could go for lunch?" I said yes and we're meeting up.... but now I don't know what to say or do? I'm still super upset about her just not talking to me anymore... but I don't want to make this akward and weird? What can I do or say? How to approach this? I'm so nervous and I feel angry, but I don't want to seem like that, but then again I don't want to lie or be fake either? Any suggestions? Sorry this was soooooooooo long! Keep in mind they still owe us the $1000 we loaned them back in June... Also we haven't even asked for the money back for the groceries and the booze and the rent that we paid either. We consider that a write off. I would rather never see the money again honestly.... I feel I'd rather cut my losses then make a massive deal out of this... No there was no signing, it was a mutual friendship loan.... nothing legal binding...We honestly weren't worried about it. moreResolved Question: Is Toronto an attractive city for NBA players?
I saw some other questions where people said that Toronto probably won't keep Bosh because it's a small market, nobody wants to play in Canada, and that the team should move to a place like St. Louis or Minneapolis (dunno because Minnesota already has a team). Is Toronto that unattractive for NBA players to play in? First of all, I'm not somebody who overhypes Toronto - locally there are some people who have this TO = centre of the world mentality, like the condo marketers who say Toronto is on par with New York and London - that just makes me roll my eyes. But on the other hand I think people are shunning Toronto too much - it's still one of the bigger markets in North America. Maybe Bosh would rather be in NY or LA, but Toronto is much bigger than Cleveland or St. Louis at least. I've heard that a lot of international players want to play for the Raptors because they find it easier to get adjusted in Toronto, and that some players like it when they visit the Raptors on the road because Toronto is a party hotspot. Sure, Steve Francis refused to sign with Vancouver because he didn't like Canada, but do you think most NBA players really dislike playing in Toronto/Canada, or perceive it as a small market? moreResolved Question: Help...Need Vancouver accommodation help please!?
Hi, My husband will be in Vancouver for the Olympics due to his job. Unfortunately, I will not be able to stay with him during this time. I am looking to go for about 2-4 weeks, depending on what accommodations I can find. I know this is not going to be an easy task. :( Does anyone know if there are month-to-month leases in which I can rent out a condo or apartment? Is it too late? I can only imagine my hotel bill if I go that route! Yikes! :) What other options do I have? The university (UBC) dorms? Also, I will be primarily by myself as the better half will be working long shifts . I'm in my 20s and like hard rock/metal/industrial/electronic music. If anyone could suggest any clubs or live venues for me to check out, that would be GREAT! :) Please make me a happy girl. :) Thanks! moreVoting Question: Can I ask for a new divorce trial, even though my divorce is basically over. If McCain wins, what country will be the best to move to? Have you lived there?
PLEASE...no nutso answers from the three ring circus campaigners Have you lived or known anyone who has lived abroad? Can you adjust to a new culture such as Norway, Sweden. England is cool. It must be a place where an English speaking person can make a living. Places that come to mind are: Vancouver, England, The Netherlands/Amsterdam, Sweden,Switzerland? Some place with really cool people who are bright/intelligent/kind Bill Maher once joked "I love the people who say..'This is the greatest country in the world. How would YOU know?" I.E., These people have barely been to 5 states, much less around the world They say Costa Rica is nice. Selling land, renting condos. I don't know if one can make a living there, though. Any Carribean areas? I am serious and would greatly welcome any first hand knowledge if you have some If you know about stocks, I hear you can make a killing in Dubai. I have no trouble being an expat. If things are too crazy in a once great land, I'll accept it....but I will make plans to leave. It may take a few years. I want to live in a place where at least I KNOW they count votes right. That's REAL freedom. This country has become a near joke. I'm tired of MY OWN COUNTRY CONSTANTLY LYING TO ME is the bottom line. Unless honesty, decency and the rule of law is restored to where the framers of the Constitution expected it to be, I want no more part of it. This would be the first time in 50 years where BUSINESS is not calling the shots in America...if Obama/ Biden prevail. Then and only then, will FREEDOM ring. Myself? I believe the voting machines will be manipulated and this thing will drag out for a month. People will go to prison for it, but it will take years. I pray this won't happen, but we've been under the 'rule' of white collar criminals for 8 years now. They play very, very dirty...starting with Lee Atwater (Karl Roves mentor) in the 70's Off the list: Austrailia and anyplace far east. My mother owns a condo in Puerto Vallarta and I am travelling there from Vancouver in a few weeks. She has decided to get a 20" iMac as the house computer, and I need to figure out how to make that happen. If I buy it here, the shipping cost is almost $600. I can check it as fragile baggage on my flight, but I am worried it will be damaged - I know how airlines handle even baggage marked as fragile. Does anyone know of a store in Puerto Vallarta that sells Apple computers? I know the Walmart sells iPods but not sure if they sell computers. Thanks! moreResolved Question: Is it expensive to live in Yaletown, Vancouver?
I love downtown Vancouver, and I would like to purchase a condo/loft in Yaletown. Can an American citizen own property in Canada? moreResolved Question: How should I insulate/soundproof my ceiling in simple hipped roof garage?
The rafters are 2x4. I am trying to do this cheap so not buying proper soundproof stuff. It's a workshop so it doesn't have to be pretty. I have some extra Roxul from the walls. There are 2 approaches that I know. The conventional way of having a 5cm gap for moisture/air to pass through between insulation and the roof. This would require me to install a 2nd vent...it's not a ridge vent right now... I'd have to make the rafters thicker somehow to accommodate the insulation AND the space -- or possibly slice the insulation half thin but that wouldn't be as good. Alternately I've read that high density cellulose (sprayed) can go right against the roof if you fill the whole space dense? I have a bunch of mineral wool insulation sitting around - so I'd rather use that. It is certainly denser than fiberglass. Could I get away with using that up against the roof? I live in Vancouver where there is huge amounts of rain so I am seriously concerned about moisture/mold issues. (Vancouver is famous for it's "leaky condos" which were basically issues of the mold being sealed into the walls/insulation). With cheapo soundproofing the seal helps a lot so I plan to doing thorough caulking. Thanks for reading! PS egg cartons are not good for soundproofing. I am trying to stop sound being transmitted to outside the garage. Egg cartons are good in sound studios because they reduce reflection and dampen sound within. That is the different kind of soundproof. Why do you suggest fibreglass? Price only? moreResolved Question: Hello everyone! Can someone tell me the name of this mountain?

I am 16 now and worked a lot this summer and starting on sept. 1 I will have saved up $3200. I know I won't spend it so I want my money to work for me. So I am 22 and won't be making a lot of money, say just under $2000 a month. I have 10 thousand saved up for down payment on something, don't know, whether it be a house or condo. I would prefer something suburban but also relatively close to the beach, I think it is Kitsilano? I'm an actor so I need to be able to get to downtown in an hour for auditions. Any info or your opinion on the areas would be much appreciated! moreVoting Question: looking to get back into dating..HELP?

I'll be in Vancouver for a week in October. I prefer staying in "extended stay" accommodations (condo's that have a few units set up for daily occupancy like hotels). The last time I stayed at the Residence on Georgia but would like to try some place new this time. Does anyone know which condo is nicer? (1) the Point at 1331 W. Georgia; or (2) The Hudson at 610 Granville. Both are downtown and the cost is just $5 difference so I'm hoping for some pro's and cons of the buildings and units or the nearby businesses/restaurants within walking distance. Please provide a detailed answer If I earn a $5000 net income will I be able to live in a good condo with all amenities, buy a BMW car on installments plus eat outside?
