Hi Vancouver Questions and Answers
Resolved Question: HOW DO I GO ABOUT OR OBTAIN INFORMATION ON GOING BACK TO COLLEGE?
Hi, I’m 25 years old, turning 26 this year. Over the last year I have grown up a little and started to see my life in the bigger picture. When I finished my secondary school education, I wasn’t exactly sure what I wanted to do with my life. I finished my exams, got an average pass (when I think back now, it makes me feel sick, because I did absolutely nothing in preparation for them, and I think if I had actually studied for those exams…well I would be a lot further in a career than I am today.) I didn’t go to college after school, I took a year out (which turned into 7 years…and counting), I moved out of home and started working. Having my own place and making my own money was such a novelty. But now I am older…and wiser I suppose. I always thought I would go back to college at some stage, but now I am at the point where I think it is essential that I do. I have worked in the telecommunications industry for the last 5 years, and have done well and achieved a lot, but its not something I want to be doing long term. I have always had an interest, since being in school, in studying (child) psychology. I have always wanted to be a child counsellor/ psychologist. I have always just put down the idea, making stupid excuses like I’m not intelligent enough to do it, or its too late to start a degree like this now, as it would take too long before I graduate. I probably don’t have enough confidence in myself to go for it. I am now in a very good relationship, and intend on settling down with my partner, and now I’m thinking of my life long term, that when I have children etc, I might not have the time or opportunity to go back and study. Myself and my partner are going travelling for a year to Vancouver, Canada. Can anybody advise me on how I can go about obtaining information on returning to college education, what the requirements are? Also I am living in Ireland, so this is where I would be studying, but I was also interested in exploring the idea of studying in Canada if I could. But I am not sure whether this would be possible, as I am going on a one year visa. But the option of staying in Canada longer than a year is there if possible. Alternatively, I would be looking to do this degree at home in Ireland. Thanks! moreResolved Question: Montreal vs. Toronto?
Hi Everyone, Next summer I was thinking about going to either Montreal or Toronto and either way, taking in the Niagara Falls also. Both cities have seasonal direct flights from Dublin, Ireland and I would look to go for about a week. Which one is better to go to? Having done the research on both and spoken to a few people, it is often said that Toronto is more like a US city while Montreal is a real Canadian city (I have been in Vancouver before and loved it). In some ways, if any of you have been to Australia, it looks as if Toronto is the Sydney of Canada (the skyline even looks similar) while Montreal is the Melbourne, the former being very glitzy and glamourous and the latter being more laid back and artistic. I preferred Sydney to Melbourne by a long shot so does that mean I would prefer Toronto? I would probably prefer to go to Montreal from what I have researched and heard of the place so far but is Toronto better? I am aware also Toronto is a lot nearer Niagara Falls, but the Coach Canada bus journey from Montreal would probably go through some nice scenery. What do you all think? Thanks Keith, Niagara Falls isn't the main thing, it's something I'd like to see rather than the focus of the trip. Seeing the better city out of Montreal or Toronto is more important. Thank you too JJ, was wondering if there was a train alright! I see from the schedule that you can have a 3 hour stopover in Toronto on the way back - is the station placed such that I could take a quick trip into downtown to grab a few photos? Are there lockers in Toronto station to store my luggage? moreVoting Question: Where can I buy mica for eyeshadow in vancouver bc?

I shook my head as I saw how incredibly big the school was. My silver car was just about of out of gas when I had reached the parking space. I took my keys out of the ignition and opened the door. The immediate smell of freshly cut grass surrounded me, making me close my eyes and inhale deeply. I let out the large breath I was holding in and opened my big, green eyes. I looked around and saw every significant little detail imaginable. The eggshell colour of the brick of the big college I was soon to be attending, the dents and marks on the concrete and the students that were walking to their next class, as the bell rang only about two minutes ago. It was surprisingly warm for early spring in Vancouver. I looked down at the map I got in the mail a few months ago that came with my acceptance letter to the Emily Carr University of Art and Design Review. It was always a dream of mine to be an artist—and here I was, soon to be living it. The simple fact of knowing that I’ve been accepted into a very exclusive, expensive school was overwhelming. I felt queasy, yet excited. Nervous, yet happy, which are two of the four emotions I felt that confused me the most. My parents were proud of me when I had the desire to go to medical school. The keyword of that sentence is ‘were’. Once I had told them I didn’t want to be a doctor, but an artist, they had yelled at me and told me to leave as soon as possible. They had told me that artists make no money whatsoever, and that I should live the life they never got to. But I was a quiet girl, and my ways of expressing my feelings was through art. If they had a problem with it, then too bad; they would just have to deal with it. I took an uneasy step towards the trunk of my 2009 model of the Citroen AX car. It was my brother, Shane’s, car before he had gotten a new 2010 model of a Mustang. I’ll admit—my family had money. My parents worked in a hospital together, which is why their hearts were so set on me carrying on the family tradition of medical work. But a good parent would let their child live their dream…am I right? I continued to the trunk and got out my one and only suitcase. It was filled with only a limited amount of clothes, my sketch book, pencils and other professional art materials I could afford with my waitress’s salary. Slinging the old and partly torn bag over my shoulder, I walked to the school office. I had no idea how I knew where it was, but I’m glad I didn’t publicly embarrass myself by walking into some random classroom. It was nice how people gave me stares of wonder and admiration and envy, instead of the hatred and mean glares I got from the students at my old high school in Victoria. I knew I was kind of pretty with my longish dark brown hair and lightly tanned skin, but I didn’t think of myself as stare worthy. My previous friends before college said I was completely unaware of my looks. I was completely aware, and that’s what I tried to tell them. But they had their minds set on the fact that I was being naïve and modest. The air conditioned office was very neat and clean. I looked around at the bench and head desk. There was a door on the left side that told me that is where the principal’s office is. Behind the head desk sat an elderly lady with her gray hair tucked very neatly into a bun. “Hello,” She said, looking up from beneath her glasses. “I’m Mrs. Sampson,” “Hi…,” I said, shyly, in my quiet voice. “I’m Liberty…Aghylos,” “Ah, yes. You are the young girl the teachers have been so excited about meeting. Welcome to the Emily Carr University of Arts and Design Review,” “Thanks,” I said. “Here is your schedule and map of the school,” She highlighted in bright yellow the best ways to get to each class so I would be there on time. The schedules were really, really short. Mind you, each of the classes were two hours long. I only had Rough Draft Sketching, Creative and Expressive Art and Shading. All the things it took to be the type of artist I wanted to be. I was about to leave when I heard Mrs. Sampson call my name. I turned around and walked back to the desk. “I forgot to give you your dorm assignment,” “Oh…,” I said. “Yes, I’m sorry. You’re in building six, the third floor, room 113,” She said, handing me a sticky note that said all of the information she had just given me along with a key. “Thanks,” I mumbled and headed off to find the building. I had no clue where I was going, but exploration of the school would be good for me, for I could have a chance of actually knowing where I was going. I would it amazing how nice everyone was to me. As I walked by, people said ‘hi’ or gave me a wave, which was really kind. I decided to give up after several minutes of my attempt at finding the dormitories, I just asked someone. “Oh. They’re right over there,” The blonde girl I had asked said, pointing behind me. I turned around and felt incredibly stupid when I realized t moreResolved Question: Iam a British Citizen & I want to move to Canada to join the Police department over there.?

Hi guys!! The person in this story is a boy called Jasper Chamberlain, and he gets chosen for something. Does this make you want to read on? 1 The sky was an ominous abyss as dusk fell on a dismal November night. I couldn’t sleep. Literally, I physically couldn’t; nothing had quite been the same since the accident. I winced in pain as my mind flashed back to the year before: “I’m bored!” exclaimed Taylor. Long journeys were never a favourite for my little brother, and this trip to Portland was no exception. He leaned against the window, his unwashed hair leaving a greasy smudge on the glass. We were on a train; dad hadn’t got his driver’s licence, and since mom moved away, we didn’t have a car. Mom and dad divorced twelve years ago when I was four, and mom moved to Washington, leaving us in Vancouver. The carriage jolted, causing Taylor to bite his tongue. “Ouch!” he yelled as I laughed. “Hey! Not funny!” “Whatever.” I grinned, reaching for my bag to retrieve my IPod. As I debated whether to listen to Evanescence or Fallout Boy, I spotted the driver arguing with his co-worker. My stomach churned. Then, and this is the painful part, the train swerved off the track. And the next thing I can remember is me, lying in the wreckage of the train, my dad and brother next to me, unmoving…dead. And then everything went black. When I opened my eyes, I was lying in a field, daisies intertwined with my fingers, swallows curving in the sky. There was a dull aching in my head; probably an after-effect of the crash. I pulled myself to my feet, only to fall back down again, so I dragged my body to sit upright against an emerald bank. Where was I? I honestly couldn’t answer. I put my head in my hands and sighed; I was alone, in an unknown place, with no family, no friends…just an IPod. A stupid IPod. A single tear rolled down my face. As if this wasn’t enough torture already; half my family died in a train crash…on the way to my grandmother’s funeral… and I survived. I curled up into a ball, hoping this was some kind of twisted nightmare. And there, I fell into a deep, dreamless sleep. moreResolved Question: Migrating to Vancouver, British Columbia from UK?

Hi there, I have recently graduated from university with an honours degree in science. I have seen a couple of nice jobs on offer in Canada for graduates. All within the Vancouver area. However I am not too sure what my expectations should be. One of the jobs salaries is $65K and the other is 62K. Is this good ? The most I have ever earned in the UK was £2300 pounds during a summer job so that number sounds big. Is salaries in Canada relative to cost of living like it is in the UK? Is this a good thing to do, I am still young (21|) I have some family friends close by in canada and USA. I know it would be scary moving to a new place. My English is perfect and my french is still good (from what I can remember from school lol). I am scottish too so does that give me an advantage ? :) Is this maybe too big a step? Should I be more mature before I do a big thing like this. moreResolved Question: How much spending money fot two weeks?
