I have the first PS3 that came out (the 60GB one that can play PS1 and PS2 games). I play it often not constantly every day but couple times a week, i got the latest GTA a few weeks ago and was playing it for a week and a half then i left the PS3 for a week, tried starting it up two days ago and it just kept freezing at the start up part where the coloured wavy bit comes up and it makes the start up noise, so i turned it off and on again and it still did the same, tried it again later and now all it will do is make the first beep and fan noise when you press the power button then it does nothing no blue light under the green power light and the controller will charge via USB but it wont assign to the PS3, when i hold my finger down on the power button it beeps 3 times then after 10 seconds it goes to standby, thats all it will do! I've tried holding the eject button down to make the fan clean but it makes a very quiet sound and doesn't really do anything! Anybody have any ideas please let me know?! My two controllers are less than a year old, they have not seen much use, and no use for about 4 months. Now both are not charging. They both work ok but only when connected to a pc or xbox usb. I just bought a Logitech Harmony One Remote and the set up using my Mac went well. It was all pretty straight forward and all the controllers I wanted to add went on with no problem. It worked great for about an hour until I changed the settings on the mac and connected the remote to update. It completed the sync but when I took it off the USB I got a message saying "go to website to update settings" a bit odd I thought as i had just done that but I reconnected and it finished again. Last night while playing GTA IV on my PC (using a controller) I kept hearing the sound windows makes when you plug/unplug a USB device. I minimised the game to see the USB device not recognised message and none of my USB devices worked (including my controller which worked until I minimised the game). While investigating I discovered the cable to my keyboard was HOT, not just warm but HOT, and it had melted through. I disconnected the keyboard and all my USB devices worked again. I have plugged my spare keyboard in and everything is working fine again and the cable temperature on this keyboard is normal. What would have caused that, there was nothing hot anywhere near my desk that could have melted it???? @stewert - Hmm, I don't live far from Bolton but I don't think that affected my area (Eccles), also why would it only affect my keyboard? It is weird, nothing else was hot, my case wasn't hot so the cable wasn't melted by touching anything hot. Also everything does seem to be working fine, I played GTA IV today (as I have for months) without problems. @sewrobb - well you're clearly not as clever and experienced as you think you are. It's starting to get really frustrating because whenever I switch to full screen mode while watching any video online the picture becomes really jerky. If I switch back to normal view it's perfect. I've also noticed the same issue if I watch any HD video content at any size. I don't get it because my laptop is HD ready and although it's not the most powerful laptop in the world it should be powerful enough to handle online video. Are there any settings I can tweak or diagnostics I can preform to pinpoint the issue? Also what do you think could be the likely cause of this issue. I thought it could be overheating but this doesn't seem to be a problem, the temp seems fine all around inside and out and I have a mat with a built in fan for added cooling. I am however running the laptop with the brightest screen setting and I have two external hard-drives plus a usb hub with a wireless mouse attached to it. Could it somehow be due to insufficient power supply? My OS is Windows XP (home). I have a wireless mouse and keyboard (they connect via a controller that plugs into a USB port) and the mouse has stopped working. The keyboard works fine. When I finally managed to navigate to mouse propeties (device status), it gives me Code 41 - Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. ok so i am thinking about getting a ps3 slim i currently have the 60gb ps3 fat (ps2 comp). Which is the CECH301 model which can only play some ps2 games but its all laggy and slow. I still have the sixaxis controller i am want the dualshock 3 and i want the 250gb of storage space. because i have the play tv accesory and that requires lots of memory. i dont ever use the ps2 part of the ps3 as games are unplayable and i have a ps2 slimline anyway. Ive had a ps3 for a few years and yesterday one of the controllers stopped working properly. Ive tried connecting it again via usb and hitting the ps3 button and it will recognise it while plugged in but when i remove the cable all the red lights just flash even when the computer is turned off and it doesnt do anything when i hold the ps3 button. OK, a couple of days ago, the disc drive on my PS3 broke, so I can still access the data etc. on the PS3, I just can't put any discs in. Tomorrow the nice boffins at SONY are coming to collect my wounded PS3 and give me another working one. But how do I tranfer my save games from my current PS3 the new one? I was told to get a USB stick, then stick it into the USB port that the controller charges go into, and then go into GAME>Save Data utility and press triangle, and copy the file to the USB stick... I've done that with the files I want to keep. is this right, how do I put them onto the new PS3? Also, another problem is, my current favourite game is Need for Speed Undercover, an when I try to copy the file it tells me I am not allowed to do so. Help! NFS is my fav game and I need to try and find a way to move the file...1 last thing, I have also downloaded extra content for games such as Batman: Arkham Asylum and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, is there any way to copy these? I don't know what happened, but I think it may be something to do with what I was doing yesterday... Basically, I tried to connect my PS3 controller to my computer, and I looked on the internet how to do it. It said I had to install a program called "LibUsb-Win32", but after installing it, my PS3 controller still didn't work on my computer, so I wanted to remove and re-install program, but the problem is, I didn't remove the program by going "Control Panel --> Add or remove programs", I instead, went to "Disk Drive C: --> Programs --> Then looked for "LibUsbWin32" and deleted it through there. When I went to go re-install it, it said the program still existed on my computer, so I went to "Control Panel --> Add or remove programs" and removed the file. I went to re-install again and it still said the program existed already, so I went on to "My Computer" and searched for "Lib Usb, LibUsbWin32, etc." and I removed anything with that name in it, and trying to re-install the program still did not work (still said it existed). Not knowing too much about computers, I just removed this files thinking they were just to do with the program I had downloaded, and the next day I turned my computer on, none of my USB ports are working! The keyboard and mouse are USB, and I also have a wireless adapter so I can't connect to the internet on that computer! Luckily I found a mouse in the loft that plugs in the computer through a different port. I think this may have been caused by either installing this program, or deleting all them files to do with "LibUsb" but I'm not sure, can somebody help me? I know theres loads info on the web, BUT I'm still struggling !!! Heres what I have ; PS3 80gb and a 320gb 2.5" 5400rpm hard drive which is mounted in an external enclosure and can be removed. Heres what I have tried ; Connected new 320gb hard drive via USB lead to PS3, attempted to back up files via the 'backup utility' found in 'system settings'. seemed to work, I then removed the PS3 80gb hard drive and installed the 320gb into the PS3 after removing from external enclosure, on startup the PS3 tells me to connect a controller and press the PS button, after doing this I get an error message saying that the hard drive does not contain correct operating system. All info I can findon the web states you do as I have tried but the hard drive you install into the PS3 is not the one you backed up everything onto. I presumed that I was copying the current data on the 80gb PS3 hard drive onto the 320gb hard drive? I have just bought a ps2 to ps3 adapter so that I can use my ps2 guitarhero guitars with Rockband 2 on PS3. Several searches have confirmed that they are compatible. The converter has a usb connector at one end with a small back box which then splits into two black female plugs into which the black dongle plug for the ps2 guitar will fit inside. However..... if I use the strum lever on the guitar, the options go up and down ok, so there must be some connection made but when I actually attempt to play the guitar on a song, it won't register the controller - just the mike/drums which are usb as standard. I posted a different thread yesterday, but I believe I did not give enough info. So here goes again. I have a few Dvd's, on which I have burned many moveis games etc, all in data format. These Dvd's include DVD+RW, DVD+R, DVD-R So On this computer I have burned and used these DVD's tehy were working fine. But now all of a sudden, the DVD+RW and DVD+ R stopped working. I tried it on one of my other computers and it works!!!! I dont know whats wrong, or why this is happening. When I say it doesnt work I mean, I put the DVD in, and go to my computer after a minute of waiting, the icon on the drive chnages which means it detects a dvd, and it gives me the otpion to burn the dvd!!! I have tried several DVD's and they all dont work, and when I tried them on the different computer they work!!! The only dvd that wokrs is the DVD-R dvds. In addition to this, I dont know if this helps at all, but my control buttons have stopped working. How to build a portable nes player? What I really need is information on how to build a rechargeable portable N.E.S. with an A/V output to a television set as small as possible.
