Resolved Question: Why do people insist they're "the first" to wear this or that?
I'm sorry but I was reading a girl ranting about "being the first to wear plaid and chuck taylors." And people getting so wound up if someone wears the same outfit as them. Maybe the fact the people were venting the exact same frustrations should have clued her in. "Yes, this also happened to me... Now I just look like I'm following the crowd." Listen, there are six billion people that inhabit this planet, there's no room for originality or special little snowflakes. It's been done; no matter what you're unintentionally ripping someone off. Our reality is just copies of copies-- there's no authenticity. This has been thoroughly argued by many social and cultural theorists. Don't be insistent that you're the first to do this or that, you will lose the argument. Your parents probably owned a pair of chuck taylors when they were your age, and get this, plaids were known as tartans worn by various celtic clans. It's not edgy when you've caught on hundreds of years too late. On top of that you'll only notice people are wearing this or that when you yourself own it. So people could have been wearing it before you, you just didn't care until it looked similar to something of personal value to you. Am I wrong to react this way? It's just frustrating how people become so indulgent in their own highly-inflated narcissism and delusions. Honestly, clothes are mostly mass-produced, unless you're wearing something 100% home made from fabric you've woven with your bare hands, don't complain about any one wearing the same thing as you. It's bound to happen, you bought it from a chain store with hundreds or even thousands of locations. What else can you expect? The purpose of this is to sort of beat people over the head with reality, sorry that it's a long-winded rant but people need to wake up. moreResolved Question: Why do you have to be Scottish to Wear Kilts?
As a Bagpiper who is well-kilted, making my own wool kilt, even weaving the tartan fabric, and I always get that secondary look from some when they find out that I am not Scottish. I can claim celtic because of my Galcian and Irish roots, but there are zero requirements that you have to be Scottish, especially seeing that Scots are letting their traditions go slowly but surely. moreResolved Question: Wife is jealous with all my hobbies?
My wife gets frustrated that she doesn't have any cool hobbies. I tell her all the time to get some, and just ride with them. She thinks it's too much to get involved with something, at least for her. Me, I am into bagpiping, kilts, kilt making, weaving tartan, and I am not even Scottish. Then gardening, and finding alternative ways to generate electricity. All my current hobbies take my family into consideration, after leaving flying and racing behind for awhile. Just before having a kids I was about to build my own plane-all given up for now. Then I also got rid of all my Porsches, which most were fixer uppers to not only save money, but reduce the chance of getting hurt. I can't figure out why she has issues with having hobbies. I keep mine within budget, and I focus on ones that put me closer and safer to my family. I am trying to get her to buy a sewing machine, and join a book club for starters, but she keeps putting it off. Of course she is scared I will commandeer her machine and start making something like maybe a Yurt or something. I kind to have to have things I can work with my hands, but with great vision, and being super spatial, I can't just sit around and watch TV and movies all day on my days off. I have to be doing something. Yeah, I would like to put a yurt on the coast, and have a second get away home. My favorite spot got wiped out with Hurricane Ike, so it just might happen soon. We have a toddler and a newborn. I tend to keep them close to me. My newborn is eaten up with bagpiping. She sits there and smiles, and gets upset if I stop playing. I don't run off from my family, except my two hours a week for lessons. Other than that, I am right here with them. I once asked, 'I'm not Scottish or anything but would you feel insulted if i wore a kilt. Also i saw a programme where new different types of tartan were being woven for different people all over the world in a shop in Scotland. Would you feel proud or insulted'? Someone said that they be proud that their nation is being embraced by the world, where others said that if you are not scottish that you shouldn't wear one. I only used Scotland as an example but what does it say about the world, about people and about what people think.
