Resolved Question: POLL, Read entire detail carefully!?

You won a Trip to Orlando in the Universal resort with more than enough spaces for you, your brothers and sisters, your parents and your grandparents if you have children, the children and wife/husband will be the grandparents instead! with one space left, so you invite your best friend. Here is the Bathroom and Bedroom Detail: Bedroom 1: Goes to you and your friend, you'll have an en suite bathroom to share, it is small and has 2 single beds. Bedroom 2: Goes to your brothers and sisters, no en suite, very big room single beds. Bedroom 3: Goes to your grandparents or children and wife/husband, depends, medium and the bathroom is right next door so there is no need for an en suite single beds. (The only reason you and your friend gets one is because you're furthest away from the bathroom) The bed you pull out from the sofa: Goes to your parents. The amount of money you bring all together is $500, quarter of your life's savings (It's America! Just keeping to the currency.) The person in charge of which part to the resort you go to each day is up to you, the term is you don't choose the same thing everyday. (Staying for 14 days) So when you invite your friend, your friend says: "Ok but I want my own room with my own en suite bathroom, I want $50 of your spending money each day, I want to choose where we go each day and I want you to buy my mother a present." You can't go unless your friend comes to fill the space. What will you say/do? You can ask someone else. I'd say "No, stop being a brat! Your sharing with me and you bring your own spending money, no arguments or i'll ask someone else!"  more

Resolved Question: Consumer rights - faulty sofa after 5 months.?

I purchased a Leather corner sofa from DFS in August and by October noticed that one of the seats had sagged quite badly. DFS sent someone to re-pad it and initially it was ok. It has now sagged again along with one of the other seats. DFS now want to take it away and replace all of the insides with something firmer. What are my rights, can I insist on a new suite rather than another repair?  more

Resolved Question: Anyone have any knowledge re. Consumer Credit Act?

On Saturday my partner and I opted to buy a sofa from SCS. The value of the goods we purchased is £1800. We wanted to take advantage of the interest free credit offer that they currently have. The particular sofa we were interested in was available on 2 years interest free credit. The sales assistant told me that the payments would work out at seventy-odd pounds per month. I was a bit hesitant to pay that much each month. I explained that it wouldnt be wise to commit to this because if the interest rates go up suddenly we could find ourselves in trouble. So the guy explained he could get us a 'special' low rate of interest if we paid over a longer term, and make our payments lower. He said he could get our payments down to £55 per month. That sounded fairer. Due to it being the end of the day the forms were not ready as the application went through to referral so we went away and told to come back. SCS rang us back when the application went through so we returned to the store the following weekend and the forms had already been printed. I was just shown where to sign. Well I got home and looked at the forms and the 'special' low rate of interest is 17.9% APR over 46 months (4 years!!!!!!!). I dont know what I was thinking of that day. I never suspected it would be for a 4 year credit agreement. Well I looked at the total charge for credit and it is almost £700 in total - over 30% of the value of the goods. So I dedcided I'd like to cancel, thinking I would have at least 7 days cooling off period. Well I read the terms of the agreement and apparently there is a pre-contract agreement in force so that I cannot cancel. I looked on the order form from the supplier and it says that the pre-contract form was to be read and signed prior to the agreement. I remember at the customer services desk AFTER id signed the credit agreement forms the lady said "Oh before you go I need you to sign this, this is just a form if your sofa is available for delivery prior to the estimate lead time". I signed it without question, and it went in my pack. I have just looked at it and this is the so-called pre contract agreement. So in essence I was shown the pre-contract agreement, after the agreement. I feel like Im now trapped in this agreement that I do not want. Where do you think I stand? I want to cancel but due to the 'pre-contract agreement' it looks like I cant cancel. It is probably my fault for not reading what I was signing, but it wasnt clearly explained to me at the time of purchase. Everything was really rushed and the sales guy (im embarrassed to say) intimidated me by telling me the 3pc suite had already been ordered as we had been in the week before to express our interest. I feel so stupid, Im usually so hot on this kind of thing :( EDIT: (ommission) we would perhaps have got ourselves into trouble if the interest rates went back up as our mortgage repayment would also go up, due to us being on our banks standard variable rate. Ergo, the more our monthly payment on the sofa, the more hesitant I became  more

Resolved Question: How can I stop my rabbit urinating on my sofa?

I have had my rabbit for 2half years now and in the last 4/5 weeks she has began to urinate on my couch, chair and pouffae etc. Nothing has changed in our routine or in hers, she has always been an indoor rabbit. It began just when I wasn;t in the room but now she is jumping up on the opposite of where I am sitting and starting. I obviously get up to her quickly and have tried lifting her back to her cage, clapping my hands and saying no, leaving her in her cage for extra time. I do not know what to try next but please someone help as this obviously cannot go on especially coming into winter it is harder to wash and dry my suite covers. Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated.  more

Resolved Question: Speaker John Bercow orders £20,000 refurbishment - Am I getting a feeling of Déjà vu on this expense issue?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/8184953.stm Please note that his predecessor, Mr Martin spent £724,600 of public money on the flat from 2000 to 2008 - More than enough to build a 5 bed luxury house and kit it out. Now he wants to spend £6,764.30 on a new sofa suite, £760 on a window seat cushions, £3,600 on window locks, £90.95 on mattresses and sheets and £275 on eight lampshades. Other costs include £3,880 on planters to make the terrace more child friendly and £1,087 on decorating a study to turn it into a playroom. Surely he wouldn't spend this much if he was paying for it from his pocket.  more

Resolved Question: Joint Tenancy Agreement - What Are My Rights?

Hi I’m a 20 year old male who is currently in a joint tenancy agreement with a 23 year old male, (were not a couple, were just good mates. ) we have been living in the property in question for over a year now, and our landlord has increased our tenancy by another 12 months. All this is fine and well however, the friend live with is completely abusing my good willed nature. Our rent is £625 per month, he pays £325 and I pay the other £300. The reason for this is he gets the slightly bigger bedroom and the en-suite. I get the smaller bedroom and the whole bathroom. The problem I have is my friend basically goes against everything on our tenancy agreement, E.g. has his mates around smoking and doing drugs in the flat. Also most of the day and night he is working on his band’s music (very loudly.) He doesn’t work and he basically hogs the whole flat to himself all day every day. I work 14 hour shifts Monday to Friday so I like to come home to relax on the sofa, but when I come home I find that the TV in the living room is in use and I can’t even watch TV or relax. The only time I get to use the living room is between 5am and 6 am when I am getting ready for work. I pisses me off loads. I have tried talking to him but I never get any sense out of him. However when we moved in he paid the deposit, so I think he sees the flat as HIS! All I want to know is, Do I have any rights to stop my flatmates friends from coming over? Do I have any rights to liaise with my landlord to evict my flatmate for breaking the tenancy agreement whilst remaining in the property myself? Appreciate your help in advance  more

Resolved Question: Can my mum do anything about her suite?

My mum bought a 3 piece suite from SCS last year. she paid £2,000 for the Sofa plus the additional 'insurance' which cost her £200 after being told it covers anything that goes wrong with the sofa (the guy ran off a long list of 'examples'). The sofa was delivered 3 months late to start with but my mum being my mum didn't complain about it. Today she sat on the chair and the base broke on one side making the seat uneven. She called SCS and they advised her that her warranty ran out in may and that it was not covered. she asked about the insurance that she paid £200 for and they explained that this only covered the leather, not the structure of the sofa. Is there anything my mum can do? She feels that £2000 is a hell of a lot of money to spend on a sofa that only lasts 12 months. It turns out that SCS only provide insurance for the leather and nothing else.  more

Voting Question: How can you remove colour that has transferred from a throw onto a sofa?

My boyfriend and his last flatmate put heavy, dark red throws over a beige sofa and armchair and left them for a year. On leaving the property, the landlord refuses to pay back their deposits as the colour has transferred onto the furniture, making it pink. They called out a professional cleaner who said the colour could not be removed, although my boyfriend successfully hand-washed one of the cushion covers with handwash soap. The landlord is demanding they replace the suite as it is 'ruined'. Is there any product out there that is specifically designed, or at least good at, removing transferred colour from upholstery? Would it be cheaper to re-upholster the suite than replace it?  more

Resolved Question: Do you think I am entitled to free delivery of my new lounge suite?

Here's the deal. We have had nothing but hassles. We tracked down this suite in July - corner suite, leather, with a sofa bed. Went home to discuss it, chose the colour etc etc. Next week when we went to order it, it cost £700 more. I am not joking. £700. We decided we couldn't afford it to went home. I looked on the internet and saw it offered at the same price, from the same company. Only available in one colour. So we ordered it. Were told it would take four months. So once again, we grit out teeth and confirm that we will take it. It should have been delivered in early December. We had a few cancellations then were told it arrived with one piece missing. So they wouldn't deliver it and we've had to wait for the extra bit. I have spent hours on the phone, trying to track this down. We've given up days for this and organised what seems to be our lives around this wretched thing. It isn't the colour we wanted, and I am fed up. I had a phone call this morning to say it has arrived in the country. I asked for free delivery. Do you think this is fair? Oh, it is the colour I ordered, in that it was the only colour available at that price. They hadn't got around to updating the price on the website yet - if I'd ordered it the next day I'd have had to pay £700 more! No, I don't think it is going out of business. Although I have been a bit worried, but they phoned this morning! But is the customer always right! I don't think that is fair - often customers aren't right!  more

I have a sofa set which is getting a Little old and it doesn't really fit in with the rest of the room after just been re-decorated. Ive brought some throws for the sofa which looked wonderfull when i put them on.. An hour later it just looked terrible. i have two kids one of which is a baby and she enjoyed pulling the threads out of it and it seamed to be pulled off the whole thing when anyone sit on it and it just got very messy very quickly. Resolved Question: insurers just want to refund my policy money as they wont settle my claim?

I recently claimed on insurance i took out on a suite, i bought insurance with sofa's, the 3 seater was too badly damaged to keep in the house so i had to put it outside, I told them this when i rand and offerd to take photo's but they said nodont worry. basically they only offered to recover 2 seater but refused to even assess 3 seater as it had gone. Ive recieved an email saying manufactureres no longer have that particular fabric in production so they are just refunding the cost of my premium!! ive never heard of any insurers doing this, when i try to contact them by phone i was told that that was their final offer and their last correspondance with me!! so i now have to go through policy and follow complaint procedure they wouldnt even give me the contact number over phone they just said its in your policy docs....ive never been treated so badly ever!! i dont understand why they are so dissmissive are they allowed to do that even though i have refused to accept offer. I insured the suite for £1500 at the time. the insurers are Guardsman and they come under the name of Furniture Solutions Group so avoid as they wont pay up!! I have been doing the pestering thing but they just refuse to speak to me now and say that the complaints department will have to deal with it, so ive got a letter ready half written but i wanted advice before i sent it, to see if anyone thinks this is acceptable and if its allowed. I know where your coming from with the story of the lady trying to claim but was given refunds its disgusting i watched a documentry in college about a whole bunch of people who were refused treatment as they wouldnt pay out, they just want your money i feel like i will never bother anymore because rather than peice of mind its just a big headache!!! thanks for responces  more

Resolved Question: Where can I buy covers for just the seats of my sofa?

I have a leather sofa, but I have gone off sitting on leather seats, they are sticky if you have bare legs and cold in the winter. It would be a waste of money to buy a whole new suite as it is still in good condition and I basically like the style, but I would like something cosier to sit on. I tried just throws but they look messy after about 5 minutes! I'd like new covers for just the seat area, but I don't want to pay for them them to be specially tailored. Resolved Question: What are my legal rights?

Hi :) Well, i bought a new 3 piece suite (sofa and two chairs) and i waited 6 months for it to come, as the company gave me two different dates for it to be delivered. So i did this through a finance company (having them pay for the suite to the furniture store and me paying them back through direct debit) but now it's arrived, i've looked at it and its really poor quality. it is NOT what i saw in the showroom, it's not what i paid for. The leather is torn and the stitching is different on both chairs. One of the chairs is a completely different chair altogether. Will they take it back? will i get money back, or will they still take the direct debit? Is there any way they can refuse to return it and make me keep it? What are my rights? Any help is appreciated.  more

Resolved Question: Can I get my sofa in my new house?

I've just bought a new house and have been looking at sofa suites for the living room. I've seen one I like but I've never done this before and I'm paranoid that it won't fit through the door. Can anyone do the maths for me and let me know if it will fit? The door is about 73cm by 190cm and the sofa is 196cm long, 92cm deep and 90cm high.  more

Resolved Question: how do I bring the colour back to my leather sofa?

I have a cream 3 piece leather suite which is 3 years old, there are a few cracks in it through wear (bums sitting on it), it looks as if the colour has rubbed off, is there anything I can put on it to bring it back to its former glory Mags...I brought mine from a shop who brought direct from an Italian factory...BUT I have seen the same suite in a Land of Leather shop (bet it was the same Italian company that supplies land of leather)  more

Resolved Question: What is the best dye to dye loose covers of a sofa suite?

I'm not sure which type of dye to use to dye the loose covers from my two sofas. The material is a thick quality cotton. Someone suggested dye that you use in washing machine, how would you ensure they were all the same colour as I would have to do 3-4 loads. The suite is a primrose yellow, ideally I wanted cream but obviously that will not work so I thought maybe a brown/beige colour. I am in England so please no answers suggesting foreign products. Thank you. Forgot to metion I will be testing it first on a spare arm cap so it wont matter if it doesn't work. They were from Laura Ashley, the material is a very thick cotton weave. I will try the colour stripper on one of the arm caps and see what happens.  more
