Voting Question: why does my 1995 Oldsmobile 88 Royale often not start right back up after driving it then shutting it off?

It was showing symptoms of a fuel pump which was replaced 2 years ago it would even cut off on me sometimes during a drive so i got it replaced but the main problem kept occurring it sometimes would not start straight up after i drove somewhere chilled for a few. Thing is it will always start everyday for sure no matter what but only after i drive somewhere making runs then turn it off and chill for a few rather its for 30 mins or a hour i can go get in the car turn the key and it wont start as if it was a fuel pump issue. Well i just got another fuel pump replaced thinking maybe i had a bad one put in but it still did the same thing my mechanic checked the fuel pump pressure and everything and its reading fine but the problem still persist. Called auto zone explained the problem they said it definitely sounds like the ignition module i had a extra one in the back that i put on but it still did the same thing but it may have been bad too so thats like me last resort im getting one 2morrow to see if that may be the reason but other than that if you have any helpful information or know anyone who has had the same problem please feel free to let me know thank you!  more

I have a 89 oldsmobile Royale GM with a 3.8 fuel injector engine. Recently I've been having problems with some noise issues. After it warms up it begins to make a clanking noise, but only after the engine has been running for awhile. It will not make the noise while accelerating or while I am slowing down to a point, but when I come to a near stop, thats when it begins to make the clanking noise and also when I have stopped or parked. It's been getting louder lately and I want to fix the problem. I think that it may be the hermonic balancer or the bolts of the fly wheel, but im not sure, does anyone think they can help a bit? Also the car itself runs great, it's just the noise that won't go away! So far, i've replaced a fuel filter, a starter, a coil pack, a fuel pump, my pvc valve, and my EGR valve.  more

I drive a '94 Oldsmobile 88 Royale, I've noticed in the past month my car, while fully stopped at a stoplight jumps. The exact feeling is like I'm being nudged by someone from behind, I don't think it's the brakes because I never move and I have the brake pedal all the way down (AC and radio are never on). This only happens when I'm fully stopped, and I get the same feeling while driving ONLY when I reach 50 mph, once I pass 50 mph things seem to smooth out. Anyone have ideas on what the problem might be? As for previous problems I've had with the car, I had to replace a hose for the power steering. Any insights would be greatly appreciated.  more

1991 Oldsmobile - "Eighty-eight Royale" - 140,000 miles My car's "service engine soon" light came on 2 weeks ago, though the car seems to mostly run fine. I took it to a mechanic yesterday to have it checked out. He said that the car's computer seemed to indicate that the camshaft had failed. But if that were true, he said the car would have stopped running 2 weeks ago as well. He couldn't really seem to find anything wrong, but the "service engine soon" light won't go out. He didn't charge me anything, just told me to bring it back in if it starts sputtering or acting funny. The only thing I've noticed different about the car since the light came on, is that when I cold start it and put it into gear (reverse), the engine sometimes stalls. It never did that before. I don't know if its related to the light being on. Or if its just the cold November weather and I'm not letting the engine warm up long enough. I depend on this car to get to work. And I don't have the money to buy another car. My question is.... for you mechanics out there, is my car getting ready to die? What could possibly be wrong with it to make the "service engine soon" light remain on? Or could it just be a glitch and there's actually nothing wrong with it?  more

When I am at a stop light and I begin to accelerate I get a misfire normally when im still in first gear. It feels like its not getting enough fuel for a few seconds. Also when im going up a hill it will misfire off and on. Its not getting consistent spark or fuel im guessing. it has the three coil packs each with two plugs if your wondering. I just got my car back from the auto shop for a normal check up. They told me i need to replace the intake manifold cause oil is leaking from it. Its not to the point where its leaking to the floor. Its just wet around intake. So Im asking if this is really serious and i need to replace it asap, or its just a minor problem. If i do repair it, itll cost me 620 dollars. I drive an 1983 Delta 88 royale oldsmobile. So the other day my car wouldn't start. I tried for a while to start it, but it wouldn't start. Its a 92' oldsmobile eighty eight royale. When I try to accelerate on the free way and push to 50+ Mph it starts to shake until my foot comes off the petal. I have removed 2 bolts & 1 nut from the motor side and 4 bolts from the frame side. It is loose, but there is no room to remove it as a whole unit. Yet I can't separate it. I also removed the pin bolt through the center of the rubber part. Any ideas? I failed to mention it, but the motor is supported buy a jack from underneath. Do you mean to actually jack up the whole motor to give room? When I jack up the motor, it lifts the entire car. I also removed the front trans axle mount/stabilizer. It's a 1998 oldsmobile 88 royale LS. It's made the noise before, it started when it snowed one day during the past year. Now the noise won't go away, and when me and my buddies drove out to the movies the steering wheel would jerk to the right while the wheel sounded horrible, especially as i slowed down. I have blown a tire on that side ran it on the rim for a bit, but got it replaced with a new one. A mech said it would be the wheel bearing, but the wheel doesn't shake. I have a 95 oldsmobile 88 royal 3800 series non super charge. Car was working great when i was living in Georgia but recently moved back to ohio and drove it the whole way there with no problems. After 2 weeks of being back at home my upper intake manifold failed which caused antifreeze to get into my oil so i had my intake manifold replaced but when i got it back from the shop i suddenly had another unexpected problem but only when i first accelerate it kinda hesitates while picking up speed very slow an depending on how hard u mash the gas it can give a few jerks so u have to slightly press the gas but after i reach speeds of atleast 15mph the car rides like normal no problems only when i 1st accelerate. Now the shop said they believe it the transmission but i dont think its that bc i havent had problems what so ever before my intake replacement. The funny thing about this problem is when i start my car and lets say i take right of after a few seconds the car is fine shifts perfect rides perfect but then after a few mins of driving and a few stops all of my lights and the dashboard starts to flicker from dim to normal constantly and from then on the problem starts but only after it starts the flickering but car was still drivable. After a week or 2 now another problem developes my battery wont stay charged so i took my alternator to get checked and it test fine so i grabbed a fresh battery just in case and it still wont stay chared so i have to get a jump just to stay alive... This car is driving me crazy but only after i had my upper intake manifold replaced. Someone plz help me out????  more

im looking to get some more power out of my '94 olds royale. engine is in great condition. its a 3.8L v6 with 28ooo miles on it. yes, i said 28ooo miles on a 15 year old car. got it from family and they didnt really drive it much. anyways......... its only crankin out a measly 170 hp and 220 torque. i dont want to get a new car, or a new engine, but i would like more power. im gonna list the things i know of that arent much money, cause im kinda tapped at this point in time. -cold air intake: how much power will this add? ive heard 5 hp all the way up to 35. what is the best kind of cold air intake that will get me the most power? where can i get it? -bigger exaust: i know changing the intake isnt gonna do much if the exaust isnt changed to be bigger. cause if you suck in more air than you can push out...... well..... bad things happen for the engine. so how big should i get the new one? again, where to get it? -high flow muffler: dont really remember why or where, but i remember i heard something about a high flow muffler improving power. is it true? if so, how much would it add? where to get it? -new headers: im sure this would be a bit pricy for me right now, but im gonna ask about it anyways. how much power would new headers add? what kind should i get? where can i get them? if you have any other suggestions, i would love to hear them. thanks in advance.  more

Resolved Question: 95 oldsmobile 88 starts then stalls?

I have a 1995 Oldsmobile 88 royale 3.8 V-6 and when i start the car it starts, putters, evens out to a smooth idle for about 3 seconds then dies, no shuddering or anything just stops, it keeps doing it,the spark plugs are wet, and we tested for spark and the test was a success. I don't know whats wrong with it. Also when i turn the car on the little bit of time it runs, all the lights on the dash are on and stay on. we tried to hook the OBD sensor to it but its an OBD 1 car with a OBD 11 plug from what i have been researching, its one of those Hybrid OBD 1.5 sensors and we cant find anyone that sells the adapter for it, so any reason why its doing that? Resolved Question: Why is my car smoking and overheating?

I drive a 1990 Oldsmobile, Delta 88 Royale Brougham. I think the thermostat is bad, because the car will overheat when it idles, but when I move forward, the temp gauge quickly goes back down to normal temp. So that's my first problem: I think I have a bad thermostat. However, this morning it was 6 degrees (F) outside, and as I was driving, the car would quit on me, and then it started smoking. It smelled like burnt rubber, and I could also faintly smell coolant. Is it the serpentine belt? What is happening? The thermostat is easy enough to replace, but this other problem concerns me. That is, the smoke and the burnt rubber smell from under the hood. I replaced the radiator and heater core last year. So I'm very certain the radiator is fine. However, I am not sure if the radiator fan is working. What kind of problems would that cause if it isn't working?  more

Voting Question: Transmission problems for a 1995 Oldsmobile 88 Royale?

I recently had a upper intake manifold replaced on my car and my transmission was working fine. I just got it out the shop 2day but it was sitting about 2 weeks in the cold and now my transmission is acting funny. When im at a complete stop and start to accelerate its very slow but when i hit about 15 mph everything is fine. Sometimes when i come to a complete stop and accelerate it sometimes jumps just a lil. I put some Lucus in it to see if that would help and it seems as it kinda made the hesitant shacking at acceleration go away but it still accelerates very slow till about 15 mph. Now the shop also said it could possibly be a blown fuse and to check to make sure. Can anyone help give some good info?? How do i check the vacuum lines and what would i be checking for and also what type of affect could that have on my transmission if it was a problem in my vacuum lines?  more
