Open Question: Random FPS drops in games?

I can run all of my games at 60+ frames per second, but in some games I notice that there are random FPS hiccups where my computer basically freezes all video output (sound still plays fine). Let's say I'm playing Call of Duty 4, because it shouldn't cause any hiccups on this hardware. everything will be running at a smooth 60 frames per second but every so often my Fraps counter will show 1 instead of the normal 60. This happens randomly also, not during any explosions or quick movement, because I could be standing still facing a wall and it will happen. I've rolled back drivers, tried new ones, reinstalled windows, defragged, changed my paging file. Also, I've used a CPU/GPU monitoring program to see if either one has a usage spike but they are all running normally, as in there are no abnormally high readings when the FPS in my games takes a dump. Specs are i7 720Q, HD5870, 8Gb Ram, Win 7 64bit. My other computer that has lower specs than this one doesn't exhibit this behavior at all. When the FPS drops on that machine its simply due to my GPU not being able to handle, aka a tank blows up right in front of me w/ x4 AA and x16 AF going. I really don't get why this is happening in some games. Crysis, Bad Company 2, Dragon Age, and my other "demanding" games don't have these FPS hiccups. I notice those said hiccups in games like CoD 4, EVE Online, Sins of a Solar Empire, and among others. This makes those games unplayable some times. Could it be faulty hardware? Those games don't support Quads? Maybe because I write really long descriptions in Yahoo Answers and the community has collectively conspired against me? =)  more

Resolved Question: What do you do when you like your guy friend...?

but you find out he has completely different religious beliefs than yours? At the beginning, he never mentionned anything about religion or anything, and he liked me a lot. I wasn't sure of my feelings, so he kind of stopped making moves but we're still really good friends. Anyway, during one hang out, he told me, "there's a side of me you don't know" and I've aked him a couple times what it is, but he never answers me. However, I found out that he believes in the New Age movement, which consists of everything related to the occult, such as psychics, some witchcraft, talking to spirits... I don't judge people based on their religious beliefs, I still have very strong feelings for him, and I'm a Christian. But I feel like he's hiding this "side of him" because he thinks i won't like him anymore. What should I do?  more

Resolved Question: First chapter, what do you think? Goes with my other question?

Lindsey watched as her world disappeared into the distance. Her new life awaited her arival in Michigan. A small town called Mt. Pleasant, to be exact. She knew that she would have to leave as soon as the Council caught wind of her exploits in Florida. For thirteen years, she lived peacefully in her small suburban home. The wind that came through the area, carried with it the taste of the salty ocean that lay almost fifty miles to the East or West. Lindsey was now nowhere near the ocean. If she had a choice, she would have moved to California. But, of course, she didn't. The Council chose where the witches in their custody would live. Terrific. Lindsey settled back and glanced around the cabin of the plane. This aircraft took first-class to a whole new level. Maxwel, the Council's pilot, was in control of a large jet that held Lindsey and her three 'sisters'. He was a man with blue eyes and hair turned white with age. Maxwel always seemed to be smiling. Too bad they might never see him again, Maxwel was the closest thing to a grandfather the girls had. Shaking her head, Lindsey went onto one of the plane's other passengers. Arina, a little water witch, was sitting in the seat across from Lindsey. Arina was currently brushing her golden blonde hair with its natural turqoise tips. Her eyes were closed, but Lindsey knew that her eyes were the exact same color as her hair. Lindsey, Arina's opposite as a fire witch, had black hair with brilliant red tips. Lindsey's own eyes were an orange color. Humans always thought that there was a fire rumbling deep inside of Lindsey, little did they know that they were absolutely right. They were also right about their thoughts that Arina had an ocean flowing deep inside her and Mina had a forest growing. Lindsey also knew that Cynthia had a fierce wind blowing within her. Mina, an Earth witch, was following Cynthia around like a little lost puppy dog. Her eyes a deep green and hair a chocolate brown with her green tips. Mina may be the youngest by a few days, but she had the strength of the world. Literally. Cynthia, completing the square with her being an air witch, was very energetic and was curious about everything. With every small movement, her silvery hair flew out as if in a gust of wind. Her eyes danced with the gray color of a full cloud. The jet had red velvet upholstery and a navy blue carpet that was so thick that Lindsey thought it could be more comfortable than her bed. Old bed, she had to remember that. She didn't live in Florida anymore. Then with lightning speed, Lindsey stopped her appraisal of the craft and closed her eyes. Falling into a trance-like state. "Lindsey, you should totally look at this bed! It's like mongo huge-o!" Cynthia Van Drake's voice screamed out over the sound of the engines. "Shut-up, Cyn. She's trying to sleep," Lindsey knew that if she waited long anough then Mina Haysworth would get Cynthia to leave her alone. Too bad it didn't work. "Lindsey!" She was shaking her shoulder profusely. Her eyes shot open and Lindsey grabbed Cynthia's arm and squeezed. Hard. "Ow! Lindsey, let go! It hurts!" Her screams were tainted by the tears that shined and threatened to spill out of her gray eyes. Lindsey let go of Cynthia's arm and glared at the small Air witch in front of her. "Next time," Lindsey groweled, "Don't put your hands on me." "Cynthia didn't mean any harm, Lindsey," Mina put in. "She shouldn't act like a child. We aren't six. We're all almost fourteen. TEEN as in teenagers," Lindsey kept trying to tell them all to act mature, but would they listen? No. Mina just kind of looked at Lindsey with her deep green eyes pleading. She looked so innocent, that was the biggest mistake anyone could ever make about Mina. She may look harmless, but she could shake you where you stand. Mina could call an earthquake with a brief thought. "Hey now. We're all s'posed to be havin' a good time y'all. None of this fightin'. Ah-ah-ah," Arina Ranley stopped Lindsey mid-word when she tried to stopped the southern girls' motor of a mouth. "I ain't want none of that. We are jus' gone to have to get over this here nonsense." Lindsey couldn't help but to smile when Arina talked. Her accent made anyone within earshot grin at her cuteness. "Oh alright," Lindsey turned back to the windy child and she held out a hand, "I'm sorry, Cynthia. I was just irritated that we have to move. It was just one little water tower." "And a apartment building," Cynthia said as she grabbed Lindsey's hand and got up. "And that old Mr. Dindler's dog house," Mina added. They all burst out laughing. Arina was the only one left not laughing. She just stood ther She just stood there smiling like someone who didn't have a clue what everyone else was talking about. Mina was the one to explain what happened. "Lindsey was trying to light a tiki torch with a minor spell and the flame ended up sparking inside the dog house." Arina still stood there, except now she had a confused expression. Lindsey calmed and tried to simulate an explosion. Arina still just sat there, quiet as could be. Cynthia looked at Arina, "You seriously don't get it?" Lindsey knew that water witches could be a little slow, especially Arina, but this was just weird. "No, I git it. I was jus' wonderin' if that dog was in his little ole house when it done happened," Arina smiled and all the girls started laughing. Lindsey looked around. Mina the bookworm. Arina the blonde haired, blue-eyed southern belle. Cynthia the eccentric airhead, literally, with too much energy. Lindsey felt that she completed the square with her witch-like appearance and her clothes that seemed to make her look like a gothic prep. Lindsey settled back in her seat. She couldn't choose anyone else she would rather be sent away with. Maybe, she thought, just maybe this move wouldn't be as bad as she thought it would be. Closing her eyes, Lindsey fell into a deep sleep. In her dreams, she saw a creature. It was tall and extremely stocky. In the low light of a street lamp, Lindsey saw it had the head of a bull and the body of a man. The creature wasn't alone either. With it was a person in a blood red cape with cobalt blue trim. The person seemed to realize that Lindsey was there because the head under the capes' hood turned slightly and Lindsey heard a whisper of sound. Immediately, the creature turned to Lindsey and with red eyes charged directly at her. Lindsey's only thought was to run. So, she turned and took of down the street at her full speed. A scream tearing through her throat. "Lindsey!" Someone shouted at her right before icy water splashed over Lindsey's face. Lindsey's orange eyes opened up with terror. She sat bolt upright and gasped in air. When she put a hand to her face to wipe away the water, it was completely dry. Arina. Her blue eyes were directly in Lindsey's line of sight they were filled with worry. As were Mina's and Cynthia's active eyes. "Lindsey, are you okay?" Arina's voice was tentative. Lindsey smiled with an expression that told them all not to worry, "Bad dream. Its alright now." They all breathed a sigh of relief. "Oh. We all totally forgot to tell you," Cynthia was the first to break the uncomfortable silence. "We are now in Flint, Michigan. Welcome home." Lindsey jumped out of her seat and dashed out of the door she now noticed was open. The tarmac was full of planes, both leaving and landing. Lindsey's eight large Prada luggage bags were being taken to an Escalade that was parked behind a shiny black stretch limo. All four girls got out and went to the limo and got in. While admiring the buttery leather interrior, Lindsey pulled out her shiny Blackberry and pulled up the other three witches numbers'. L: omg! i cant believe we made it!!! The other girls' cell phones all rung at once. Arina smiled and pulled her's out. A: me ither. it seems lyke we were on here 4 so long. C: it feels lyke we were only on here 4 abt 2 hrs. All of the girls laughed and gathered into a group hug. M: duz any1 else smell that? L: i do. C: me 2. A: me 3. All four girls looked around the limo and shouted together, "CHOCOLATE ICECREAM!!!!" Lindsey immediately looked in the mini fridge and found nothing. Arina was the one to find four small cartons of Breyer's Chocolate icecream. She held it up victoriously. The remaining witches rolled their eyes, water witches had the ability to locate things with a few words. When they all had their cartons, they remembered one small delema; no spoons Mina looked meaningfully at Arina, "Mind making us ice spoons?" "Well if y'all want frostbite then I sure darn could," Arina joked. Cynthia looked in a small drawer under the seat that she had hit her knee on and found four silver spoons, "Looks like we won't be getting frostbite for icecream today, girls." They all grabbed a spoon and sat back to happily enjoy the two hour ride from Flint to Mount Pleasant. When they got to their new home, Lindsey and her 'sisters' were asleep. Lindsey slept with her head on the seat, Arina with her head on Lindsey's lap, Mina was asleep on the floor of the limo, and Cynthia had crawled onto the seat along the left side of the car and was sprawled out. Maxwel, who had been driving this whole time, walked around and opened the door, "Come along, young ones. We are at your new home." The four young witches moaned and groaned, but they got up and crawled out of the limo. They all started stretching and letting their eyes adjust to the darkness. Lindsey was the first to yell. "Look at this house!!!" She was staring at the building they had parked in front of. "Is that a house?" Mina asked. "More like a mansion, if you ask me," Cynthia commented. "I have got to take a picture of this and send it to uncle Jim," was Arina's comment. Arina went back to the limo and pulled out her cell phone. When she took her picture, she cried out in distress, "Aw. Its too dark for a good one." "Then you could wait until morning, young Arina," Maxwel was standing near the door with a man with dark hair and the blackest eyes the girls had ever seen. "Girls, this is your new master, Jacobi Talamu." The man straightened and seemed taller then ever. A warm smile washed over his face, "Hello, girls."  more

Open Question: The World is becoming more liberal and tolerant of LGBT people today but do you think that it could ever..?

That it could ever stop being tolerant and liberal and start becoming more conservative and criminalize homosexuality again? And that all the progress that the global LGBT movement that we've made over the last 50 years could be lost in the future if religion becomes more intolerant of homosexuality more intolerant than what it already is today? Because human history has shown that religion is the main cause of today's homophobia and intolenrance towards LGBT people. Because in fact in the ancient world back before religion existed, as unbelievable as it may sound there was actually quite of a lot of widespread acceptance of homosexuality, to the point where: - In Africa one of today's most homophobic places in the world, homosexual expression in native Africa was present and took a variety of forms, Azandea a tribe of north central Africa. Their population number is estimated by various sources at between 1 and 4 million. Anyways Azandea warriors in the northern Congo routinely took on young male lovers between the ages of twelve and twenty, who helped with household tasks and participated in intercrural sex with their older husbands. The practice had died out by the early 20th century, after Europeans and their homophobic religions had gained control of African countries, but was recounted to Evans-Pritchard by the elders to whom he spoke. - Homosexual and transgender individuals were actually common among other pre-conquest civilizations in Latin America, such as the Aztecs, Mayans, Quechuas, Moches, Zapotecs, and the Tupinambá of Brazil. Then the Spanish conquerors were horrified to discover sodomy ( homosexuality ) being openly practiced among native peoples, and they attempted to crush it out by subjecting the berdaches (as the Spanish called them) under their rule to severe penalties, including public execution, burning and being torn to pieces by dogs due to religion's intolerance towards homosexuality. - In Ancient China during the Han Dynasty about 2,000 years ago the official histories list of ten openly bisexual emperors during the first 200 years of the dynasty, indicating widespread acceptance of homosexuality in Ancient China. - Kings in Thailand had both male and female lovers. there was widespread acceptance of homosexuality in Thailand and Thailand has never had legal prohibitions against homosexuality or homosexual behavior. - The was a lot of widespread acceptance of homosexuality in Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome to the point were the first historical mention of the performance of same-sex marriages occurred during the early Roman Empire. For instance, Emperor Nero is said to have married one of his males slaves. Emperor Elagabalus married a Carian slave named Hierocles. While there is a consensus among modern historians that same-sex relationships existed in ancient Rome, the exact frequency and nature of same-sex unions during that period has been obscured. In 342 CE Christian emperors Constantius II and Constans issued a law in the Theodosian Code (C. Th. 9.7.3 ) prohibiting same-sex marriage in Rome and ordering lethal execution for those so married, due to Christianity being spread across the world and their hatred towards homosexuality along with it. In the South Pacific in many societies of Melanesia, especially in Papua New Guinea, same-sex relationships were an integral part of the culture until the middle of the 20th century when Christianity and it's hatred towards homosexuality began spreading across the area. In fact the Etoro and Marind-anim tribes for example, even viewed heterosexuality as sinful and celebrated homosexuality instead. In many traditional Melanesian cultures a prepubertal boy would be paired with an older adolescent who would become his mentor and who would "inseminate" him (orally, anally, or topically, depending on the tribe) over a number of years in order for the younger to also reach puberty. Today many Melanesian societies, however, have become hostile towards same-sex relationships since the introduction of Christianity by European missionaries. If you didn't read all of that the point is people that obviously the was a lot of widespread acceptance of homosexuality all across the world back in Ancient times before religion was created and spread across the world, now because homophobic religions such as Christianity, Islamic religion, & the Catholic religion, has spread all across the world there's now widespread unnacceptance and intolerance of homosexuality in the world today.  more

Resolved Question: New age spirituality recovery?

I got pretty into the whole new age movement, and well kind of lost my head. A lot of the stuff was pretty out there, making claims to not use your mind and to give up all your belongings and dreams. This made me one emotionless apathetic human (if i dare to call myself human). I feel like this will take a long time to get out of my system before I return to a normal human life. Are there any other people out there who've been through the whole new age phase and what are some tips that you used to get out of the mindless care-free state. It's almost like being on drugs and it's very sedative. One of the things he said was that you are not your mind. This makes it extremely hard for me to think clearly/functionally because every time i do think i get that thought that im not my mind. If you are for the new age i respect that, but please don't comment. I read the power of now and books by byron katie which i now to see to be a scam and like i said....if you are for the new age spirituality then that's fine...but it's not for me and i don't people telling me it's okay.  more

Resolved Question: IS THE ANTICHRIST HERE ALREADY?

The Antichrist!--also described in the Bible as the "son of perdition" & the "beast"! Like Hitler, who was one of history's antichrist archetypes, he will have great charisma & speaking ability, "a mouth speaking great things". The Antichrist will rise to power on a wave of world euphoria, as he temporarily saves the world from its desperate economic, military & political problems with a brilliant 7-year plan for world peace, economic stability & religious freedom (new age movement) The Antichrist could well rise out of the current chaos in the former Soviet Union. The prophet Ezekiel names him as the ruler of "Magog", a name that Biblical scholars agree denotes a country or region of peoples to the north of Israel. Many have interpreted this to mean modern day Russia. His power base will include the leading nations of Europe, whose leaders, the Bible says, will "give their power & strength unto the beast." The Bible even gives some clues about his personal characteristics. The prophet Daniel wrote that the Antichrist "does not regard the desire of women." This could imply that he is either celibate or a homosexual. Daniel also tells us that he will have a "fierce countenance" or stern look, and will be "more stout than his fellows"--more proud and boastful. The 7-year peace-pact (or covenant) that is engineered by the Antichrist is spoken of a number of times in the Bible, & may even have already been signed in secret. The historic peace agreement signed between Israel & the PLO at the White House on September 13, 1993, vividly illustrates how dramatically events in the Middle East are presently moving in this direction. Under the final terms of the Covenant, Jerusalem will likely be declared an international city to which Judaism, Islam & Christianity will have equal rights. Scripture indicates that the Jews will be permitted to rebuild their Temple on Mt. Moriah, where they revive their ancient rituals of animal sacrifice. According to prophecy the Antichrist will not only be a master of political intrigue, but also a military genius. Daniel describes several major wars that he fights during his 7-year reign, apparently against the U.S. & Israel, who will oppose him during the second half of his reign. For awhile, most of the world is going to think the Antichrist is wonderful, as he will seem to have solved so many of the world's problems. But , three-and-a-half years into his seven year reign he will break the covenant & invade Israel from the North. At this time he will make Jerusalem his world capitol & outlaw all religions, except the worship of himself & his image. The Bible says that the Antichrist will sit in the Jewish Temple exalting himself as God & demanding to be worshipped. It is at this time that the Antichrist imposes his infamous "666" one-world credit system... Which is believed to be (positive ID)  more

Resolved Question: could the new age movement be the antichrist religion?

the revelation described the coming of a diabolical world leader called the “Beast” or the “Antichrist,” who would arise among a one world religion and government in the last days (Rev. 13:2). The modern New Age movement has a definite agenda which has been agreed upon by their constituents. Adopted much after the same original ideals as Alice Ann Baily, the manifesto of the New Age movement calls for a: (1) New world order (2) Universal credit card system (3) World food authority (4) World Health Authority (5) World water authority (6) Universal tax (7) Universal military draft (8) Abolishing of Christianity, Judaism and Islam (9) One world leader  more

Voting Question: Do You Think Julia Gillard is John Howard in Drag?

Do You Think Julia Gillard is John Howard in Drag? Further to Julia Gillard is John Howard in Drag may I ask Who wants to see Gillard as pro-Israel and anti-Islam? A regular reader of this site sent this on, exact source unknown, but certainly speaks for itself. The ALP and Israel is like a disease that no medicine can cure Australian unionist Paul Howes loves Israel. He supports its criminality, murder of opponents, defends it from everybody and would ideally like to make love to the Jewish state. He's also one of the key figures behind the recent coup of Julia Gillard when overthrowing Kevin Rudd. Welcome to the modern Australian Labor Party, where Israel is a state religion. His column in yesterday's Sunday Telegraph is a typical rant that conveniently forgets to mention that one of Australia's leading Zionist lobbyists, Albert Dadon, is actually an Israeli lobbyist. He wields influence but of course we can't mention this. Furthermore, Howes doesn't want to see that there is a profound conflict of influence with the Prime Minister's partner working for a Zionist lobbyist who is trying to affect government policy towards the Middle East. But of course for some, anything related to the Jewish state is beyond criticism. Fat chance: It hasn't taken long for the double standards to emerge, in the week since our first female Prime Minister took office. While it's significant that Julia Gillard is our first female PM, what's really significant is how long it took us to get there. I'm writing this column in the Sydney CBD, where we have a female Lord Mayor and State member, and female federal MP, a female Premier and a female Governor. In Canberra, there's a female Governor General and – at last – a female PM. With the exception of the dual-Lord Mayor/Member for Bligh, all these women are, or were appointed by, Labor. The Liberal Party, on the other hand, is so bereft of female talent that they've recycled Julie Bishop as deputy leader three times for different leaders, despite the fact that she's not considered competent enough to hold the shadow Treasury portfolio. But the progressive side of politics has always championed women. In my own role as a union official, we have had female leaders of the Australian Council of Trade Unions since 1996, with the newest president, Ged Kearney, taking office in the past week. She replaces Sharan Burrow, who has been elected as the head of the global trade union movement. Yet we've already seen double standards being applied to our new PM with significant media coverage of Prime Minister Gillard's hair, clothes, voice and domestic arrangements. The Melbourne Age carried a front-page story last week about the employment status of the Prime Minister's partner, Tim Mathieson. He works as a salesman for a Melbourne property company, chaired by Albert Dadon, prominent in the local Jewish community. The article implied that, somehow, because Mr Mathieson works for a company associated with a Jewish community member, this would somehow impact on the PM's stance on foreign policy, particularly in relation to her views on Israel. It was one of the crassest examples of shoddy journalism I've seen. The implication was, firstly, that because Mr Mathieson is a man and the PM a woman, whatever he thinks about the world or who he works for will impact on what Ms Gillard thinks. The second implication was that, simply because Mr Mathieson works for a company owned by a prominent Jew, his personal views on policy matters will be skewed by his job. One Canberra press gallery journalist summed it up best on Twitter when he said: "I can't ever recall a male politician being the subject of claims his wife's job would influence his views on the Middle East." He was spot on, summing up in one sentence the appalling double standards applied to Prime Minister Gillard in the article. In fact, outrage over the article was so intense that even former Age editor Michael Gawenda labelled it "bizarre". Mr Mathieson's employer, apart from being Jewish, is a well-known jazz musician and was chairman of the Melbourne Jazz Festival. Following the logic of The Age's article, one could presume that our nation's leader will redirect the Government's arts funding solely towards the Australian jazz industry. Ludicrous, isn't it? Just as ludicrous as saying that the PM is going to toe some pro-Israel line simply because of who her partner works for. It's the type of double standards and sexist reporting that belongs in the past. Julia Gillard has shown she is her own person. It doesn't matter what her hair looks like. I don't think anyone is really interested in how she dresses. It doesn't matter who her partner works for or what their living arrangements are. What matters is that she's the best pe What matters is that she's the best person for the job and light years ahead of Tony Abbott when it comes to understanding the needs of ordinary Australians. Yes, she's different from her predecessors, but just like Kevin Rudd, John Howard, Paul Keating and Bob Hawke, she is her own person. Any suggestion that her partner's views, or her hairstyle, has any bearing on how she runs the country is laughable at best, sexist at worst. Resolved Question: Is the Tea Party a resurrection of the Know Nothing Movement?

The Know-Nothing movement was a nativist American political movement of the 1840s and 1850s. It was empowered by popular fears that the country was being overwhelmed by German and Irish Catholic immigrants, who were often regarded as hostile to Anglo-Saxon values and controlled by the Pope in Rome. Mainly active from 1854 to 1856, it strove to curb immigration and naturalization, though its efforts met with little success. Membership was limited to Protestant males of British lineage over the age of twenty-one. There were few prominent leaders, and the largely middle-class and entirely Protestant membership fragmented over the issue of slavery. Most ended up joining the Republican Party by the time of the 1860 presidential election.[1][2] The movement originated in New York in 1843 as the American Republican Party. It spread to other states as the Native American Party and became a national party in 1845. In 1855 it renamed itself the American Party.[3] The origin of the "Know Nothing" term was in the semi-secret organization of the party. When a member was asked about its activities, he was supposed to reply, "I know nothing."[4] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Know_Nothing  more

Resolved Question: When do you think rap and hiphop will die?

During my lifetime, MTV and VH1 did a fine job ruining rock-and-roll. The metal bands from the 80's rocked the world, but the Seattle grunge came along and killed it. Nonetheless, the whole grunge movement lasted all but 5 years and vanished without a trace. Meanwhile, more teens keep listening to crap......err I mean rap and hiphop. Don't get me wrong; I do like some rap and hiphop but very little. About 90-percent of it is all noise. That said, the majority of the artist don't last long as the industry goes through them like pairs of underwear. Snoop Dogg and Beyonce are the exception and not the norm. It's been ages since I saw Boyz II Men, Coolio, 50 Cent, or any of the other big time rappers and hiphop artists make it to the top. None of them have been able to prolong their success like the Rolling Stones, the Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, Ozzy Osbourne, and other musicians in the rock-and-roll business. If rappers aren't killing each other in gang warfare, I figure after awhile the fans finally realize the music has little to no substance. When I'm surfing through the channels, they don't even play music on MTV and VH1 anymore. They play these lame reality TV shows like "16 and Pregnant." Therefore, I figure it's only a matter of timing before some new genre supplants rap and hiphop. When do you think that will happen?  more

Voting Question: Psychics or Hoax's? Which is true?

I heard about Baba Vanga today who was a fortune-teller but of course it's not confirmed. What are your thoughts on the future predictions she's made from 2010 to the end of the world? 2010 – World War III. War will begin in November 2010 and end in October 2014. Resolved Question: Does this doll look haunted to you?

http://www.auctiva.com/hostedimages/showimage.aspx?gid=1180247&image=386171623&images=386171623,386171656,386171676,386171700,386171727,386171768,386171816,386171835&formats=0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0&format=0 I bought it from ebay and it was labeled as a haunted doll. This is the listing: Welcome to my auction listing for the adoption of five year old Mary. This doll was owned and cherished by a little five year old girl named Mary in the 1960s. She reminds me of little Lorelei that was adopted out several months ago to a wonderful loving family. Mary loved this doll very much. She took her everywhere she went and was her best pal. Mary passed from bacterial meningitis. A older step brother of Mary's kept the spirit doll Mary for years. He attended our psychic metaphysical workshop a few months ago and told us all about his step sister Mary and her doll that she attached to after passing. He mentioned that she would send colorful butterflies as a sign to let hm know she was near. He gave us Mary doll to find a good home for her. We all agree that souls can haunt and attach to inanimate objects such as dolls to communicate their spiritual messages and needs through the veil. Mary is lively and active. She can be obstinate in trying to get attention. She has a habit of tapping on windows and walls if you're too busy to spend time with her. She enjoys being read to and she comments in real short phrases during EVP(electronic voice phenomenon) recording sessions or through telepathy about the story. She loves Dr. Seuss books. "Yurtle The Turtle" is one of her favorites. When you talk to Mary her eyes has this amazing spirit energy that emanates right through! She can drain batteries quickly and has a way of stopping and restarting clocks and watches. You may need to keep extra batteries on hand. It's not unusual for her to turn a light switch off and on. We have been been in a lighted room and all of a sudden the room is dark. She gets a kick out of that. She can be affectionate too. We have had spirit hugs from her. It feels like a "web" engulfing around your body. When she draws near, you may get static in your hair from her energy. The EMF(electro-magnetic force) sensor readings can be moderately high when she manifests and travels in a room as a pinkish speeding orb in flight. Mary would be happiest with a family that can give her a lot of attention and give her the best seat in the house. Mary can be ornery and will tease you if she doesn't get her way. Mary does enjoy interacting with other spirit children and pets. Mary has these unusual spirit eyes. It's as if there is a light within them. When viewing the first photo enlarged the left eye appears to have a "human eye" peering through. There is some subtle kinetic movement where she animates her sleep eyes to half close then open them wider. We have observed this manifestation when her doll host is sitting in a chair. She loves to be held and carried around. Her whole face brightens up! This 19 inch doll is a vintage 1964 Vogue doll. It is stamped Vogue Co. 1964 on the back of her neck. The head, legs, and arms are vinyl. The body is stuffed with a non working crier. Yet, one night her crier mysteriously worked. She has a darling face with unique spirit eyes that vary in shade from blue to green depending on her mood and the lighting in the room. One eye appears bigger than the other. Gives her that haunting "off" look that can is such a signature with haunted spirited dolls. She has been cleaned up but there is some subtle marks and variations on the body due to aging. Mary is in dire need of a new dress or outfit. Her vintage nightgown is too long and worn and she has no shoes. Hopefully her new adoptee family will spoil her with nice clothes, shoes, books, toys, kisses, and hugs :) I must state by law that any item considered paranormal in nature is for "entertainment." I cannot guarantee or be responsible how Mary will manifest in her new home. Treat Mary as member of the family and not a ghost. Thank you for visiting Mary!  more

Resolved Question: Am I off base with my interpretation and timeline of the "death of chivalry"?

Having lived through this change, I think I'm a qualified witness to how the concept of "chivalry" fell apart. If any of my observations are incorrect, hyperbolic, out of line, insane - whatever - just tell me how so: Pre 1960s: Chivalry existed, and all "seemed" alright. Men treated women with certain courtesies, and women seemed to appreaciate them. 1970s: The feminist movement, in full swing, begain targeting the prevailing attitude toward women as being "helpless." in a cultural tantrum, Feminists began to castigate and publicly chastise men who held doors open for women, or engaged in any sort of "chivalrous" activity which cause a woman to feel as if she was being perceived as helpless. This put men on an uncertain footing as to how to interact with women in situations which historically had a chivalrous component to them. 1980s: Women retreat from their militant position on chivalry, reminiscing about the "good old days" when a man made a woman feel "special". Chivalry experiences a notable, albeit weakend, renaissance. 1990s: A new generation of women come of age with a haughty, arrogant entitlement mentality. The new attitude conveys an attitude of superiority; that men are "supposed" to do these things simply because women ARE special. "Goddess" and "Princess" culture proliferates. Men are judged on their "gentlemanly" bahavior, while at the same time, women publicly condescend men in the media, in public, and pretty much any available venue. 2000s: Men, still reeling from the double standards won by women in every cultural arena over the past 30 years begin to feel resentful. 2010s: Women wonder why "chivalry" is dead. There you have it, in a nutshell, at least from the vantage point of someone who saw it all unfold. Tell me what I missed. I-L-U: Thanks for the history lesson, BUT... On several occasions, I've placed the word "chivalry" in quotes for a reason. I'm referring to the modern usage of the word "chivalry," and you damn well know it. So please save your red herrings for someone more gullible.  more

Resolved Question: I read that ice ages correspond to the earth's orbital plane movement - but there is a problem...?

I think I got this right that they have found that the earth's orbital plane floats in and out of the orbital plane of the rest of the planets, over a 100,000 year cycle. This 100,000 year cycle seems to correspond closely with the ice ages over the last 2 million years. That's fine, what I don't get is the hockey stick levels of CO2 every 100,000 years. Also why then does the CO2 gradually decline over the next say 80,000 years back to the start again prepping for a new explosive growth in CO2? So what causes the explosive growth of CO2 every 100,000 years that we are in now (and is apparently artificially inflated by another 33% by carbon fuel burning)? If the cycle of the earth's rotational plane in and out of the sun's orbital plane, why the sudden jump? Why is their not a more smoothly sinusoidal like wave in CO2 increase and decrease?  more

Voting Question: Until 1967 buggering a man was illegal in the UK. Is there a movement to legalise sex with kids as claimed?

In England and Wales buggery was made a felony by the Buggery Act in 1533, sexual acts between two adult males, with no other people present, were made legal in England and Wales in 1967. _________________________ The Washington Times April 19, 2002 A new book that says child molesters are not a major peril to children is part of a larger movement within academia to promote "free sexual expression of children." The movement to legitimize sex between adults and children is "gathering steam," warns Stephanie Dallam, researcher for the Leadership Council for Mental Health, Justice and the Media in Philadelphia, an organization that deals with prevention and treatment of child abuse. "Some people view children as the next sexual frontier," Ms. Dallam says. Feminist writer Judith Levine's book "Not Harmful to Minors: The Perils of Protecting Kids from Sex" has been condemned by those who say she excuses sexual abuse of children ? a charge she strongly denies. Ms. Levine says she was "misunderstood" after a news article last month quoted her saying a boy's sexual experience with a priest "conceivably" could be positive. "Do I advocate priests having sex with their child parishioners? No, absolutely no," she said in a telephone interview. However, she said, "The research shows us that in some minority of cases, young ? even quite young ? people can have a positive [sexual] experience with an adult. That's what the research shows." Featuring a foreword by Clinton administration Surgeon General Dr. Joycelyn Elders, Ms. Levine's book endorses a Dutch law, passed in 1990, that effectively lowered the age of consent to 12. Ms. Levine cites research about "happy consensual sex among kids under 12," and writes: "America's drive to protect kids from sex is protecting them from nothing. Instead, often it is harming them." The book has sparked a political backlash against her publisher, the University of Minnesota Press. The speaker of the Minnesota House of Representatives condemned the book and called for the university to halt its publication. Instead, the university press last week ordered a second printing of 10,000 copies after media attention helped drive Ms. Levine's book as high as No. 26 on the Amazon.com best-seller list. But researchers and activists say the book is only the most recent in a series of academic arguments for "consensual" sex involving children: In 2000, the Institute for Advanced Study of Human Sexuality in San Francisco published an article, "Sexual Rights of Children," saying there is "considerable evidence" that there is no "inherent harm in sexual expression in childhood." San Francisco State University professor Gilbert Herdt, co-author of the 1996 book "Children of Horizons: How Gay and Lesbian Teens Are Leading a New Way Out of the Closet," said in an interview with the Dutch pedophilia journal Paidika that "the category 'child' is a rhetorical device for inflaming what is really an irrational set of attitudes" against sex with children. John Money, professor emeritus of psychology at Johns Hopkins University, gave an interview to Paidika about "genuinely, totally mutual" sex between boys and men. In the introduction to a Dutch professor's 1987 book called, "Boys on their Contacts with Men: A Study of Sexually Expressed Friendships," Mr. Money wrote that opponents of pedophilia are motivated by "self-imposed, moralistic ignorance." Harris Mirkin, a professor at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, published a 1999 article in the Journal of Homosexuality complaining that boys who have sex with men "are never considered willing participants, even if they are hustlers." He has also written that "children are the last bastion of the old sexual morality." A 1998 "meta-analytic" study in an American Psychological Association (APA) journal argued, among other things, that "value-neutral" language such as "adult-child sex" should be used to describe child molestation if it was a "willing encounter." Radio host Laura Schlessinger led a campaign against that study by Temple University psychology professor Bruce Rind and two other academics. Congress eventually voted unanimously to condemn the Rind study ? which has already been used as evidence to defend accused child molesters in at least three court cases. Ms. Levine's book favorably cites the Rind study and, in a telephone interview, she defended the study as "methodologically meticulous." But Baltimore psychologist Joy Silberg, whose clinical practice involves treating child-abuse victims, says the study is "horribly flawed." "I can't call it science," she said. One One connection between advocacy and action was revealed last week when court documents showed that a Catholic priest accused of repeatedly raping a boy was present at the founding of the North American Man-Boy Love Association (NAMBLA). At a 1979 conference in Boston, documents show that the Rev. Paul Shanley claimed that a child had been "helped by a boy-lover" who had sex with him. Intellectual defenses of pedophila are "a huge concern" because they can function as "a green light" to would-be child molesters, says Claire Reeves, president and founder of Mothers Against Sexual Abuse (MASA). "Adults who might have a propensity to hurt a child might say, 'See, it's not harmful, these people are Ph.D.s, they must know,'" Mrs. Reeves said, adding that she began warning about the pedophilia movement in 1995. "I started saying seven years ago that there was a movement to make pedophilia an alternative lifestyle, and my colleagues looked at me like I was crazy," said Mrs. Reeves, who founded MASA after discovering that a relative had been sexually abused. Resolved Question: Do you think this is a good story?

October Maye started out the window of the moving car. Tall Oregon myrtle lined the two sides of the road, blocking the ocean from her view. Tiny pellets of rain splatter against the window. As each drop snaked down the glass, it made her reflection look like she was crying. And she was, on the inside. This was her family's third move this year; it was only May. At sixteen, she had seen more of the world then most people do. England had been her favorite. Open in the country and simply beautiful in the city, it was perfect. "Yachats, Oregon will be even better then here," her mother had said. Maybe it will be, but that's what Samantha Maye has been saying to herself since her husband, John, had first moved them from their hometown in Florida to China, four years before their children were born. Now, twenty years later, they have moved to 116 cities in twelve countries. Samantha hadn't seen her family in six years and she hadn't any friends anymore. After her many changes, they had just stopped replying to her e-mails and letters. She never blamed them though. She knew that even she would not know where she'd be in the next few weeks. As they reached their new home they all got out of the car and stared at their new abode. It was white with blue shutters and a red door. October could only think how American it looked. She has nothing against America, just their sense of style was not hers. The house sat just yard's from the ocean, possibly the only good thing about this place. The ground floor had a simple living room, a quaint kitchen, and a cluttered den. Boxes were spewed everywhere and they looked like they had already gathered dust. The walls were white with patches covering holes and cracks. October already hated the bland color. She walked into her colorless room, stared at the box she had placed on the floor and walked out. This house was boring, this state was boring, and this country was boring. October always thought people exaggerated when it came to boredom, but now she knew better. October grabbed her side bag, slug it over her shoulder, and walked out her back door heading for the ocean. There weren't any sand here, just pebbles like it was in England. Tears welled into her eyes and she blinked furiously to drive them away. She hated to cry, it showed weakness. She started to walk down the beach, feet bare, touching the slippery pebbles. She concentrated on her foot placement, careful as to not slip and fall. She was the only one on the beach, and possibly the only one for miles. Her house was years away and it was the only one there. The actual town was a mile away. October had stopped to stare out at the gray sky that touched the gray sea when a figure started to emerge from the water. It was completely drenched and it walked in slow gliding movements in her direction. It was too far at first to tell what it was, but as it came closer it looked like a man. But it's face was to young to be a man, and too old to be a boy. He looked to be around her age with his black hair sticking to his face and to her surprise shirtless. Her cheeks burned red as she continued to stare. His hand move to wipe the hair from his face. He was very angular, she noted. A sharp jaw line, a pointed nose, and each muscle looked deep as if it were set in stone. He wasn't very handsome, she though, he even look ugly. Many would have disagreed with her, for October had a sense of what she like and what she didn't. "Why don't you come in with me?" he said, stopping just feet form her. "Ugh, no," she said and walked away from him. October could hear the shirtless guy walk after her. She could hear the soaked legs of his cutoffs smacked against each other and his feet kicked pebbles when he walked. She could feel his eyes burning into her back. A shiver ran through her spine. “This kid is totally weird,” she thought. “It’s at least sixty degrees outside and the water is defiantly not any warmer, so what the hell was he doing in the water? And why is he following me? This kid is a real freak.” He was really starting to get on her nerves. Gritting her teeth, she started to pick up her steps, determined to walk as far away from him as possible before she did something rash. October wasn’t known for her kind nature. Since she was a child, she had been made fun of. Children constantly teased her about her odd month-like name, the way she looked, and that she had no friends. She grew to almost hate mankind, she could not stand to interact with them of she had the choice. Her mother then chose to home school her, but she was easily angered by silly human things. She never grew attached to everyday thing and people. October chose to stay indoors and read, escaping in the stories she read. Shirtless boy quickened his pace like she had. October’s blood boiled. She completely stopped, her breathing heavily I'm fifteen and this is just a story I've been working on. I have more, but what do you think? Is this a good story? Would you read this?  more

Resolved Question: FEEDBACK NEEDED FOR CHAPTER 1 OF STORY!!!! AND A TITLE PLEASE!!?

hi so ya i wrote this awhile ago. its like chapter one so its not an entire story. i need feedback/advice/title please!!!! ill admit, its not the best thing Ive ever written, buts its also not the worst....so ya here it is: I hated my new house. I hated my new neighborhood. I hated my new life. And I especially HATED Florida, its too hot, and dry, and stupid. Stupid state… no offense… Anyways, I had escaped the confines of my new “house”, and the clutches of my idiotic, hairbrained mother (Oh she has something in common with the state!! They should get along swimmingly!!) by going for a quick stroll through my new neighborhood. Whoa, that was a difficult thing to say-or type in this case- new neighborhood. New people, new people, new mysteries…. It was unbearably hot outside (note to self: add Heat and summer to the hate list) even in shorts and a t shirt I was still drenched in sweat! How do these old people (oh Im sorry ‘elderly’ people, or if you prefer ‘people of age’, which ever one floats your boat) handle it?? Maybe it’s the wrinkles!! Stupid Florida heat summer crap, why cant it just go away??? Oh ya, back to the walk. Because of a deadly combination of horrendous heat, stupidity, and a “Hay! That’s a good idea” , I decided to take a slight detour off of the grey sidewalk, and onto what appeared to be a well traveled path. Surprisingly, it was dramatically cooler inside the forest than outside on the sidewalk. It seemed so strange, it must be the canopy… After a couple of minutes of listening to twigs and leaves crack under my feet, I stopped under a large oak tree to examine my new environment. It was then that I relieved that I was being followed. As I sat within the oaks shade, I heard movement. The rustling of bushes and that stuff, the usual. I stood up alert, like a Meerkat (are Meerkats even cats?? I must add that to the ‘look up on google but not yahoo, it doesn’t deserve the honor of being on my computer screen’list), scanning the bushes for any sign of danger. About then is when the man emerged. He was tall maybe 6 ft, husky, and with reddish hair. He wore a muscle shirt and jeans, which made him look slightly like a big bad tough biker. Which he would have pulled off, except for his little happy gingerbread man tattoo on his forearm. He walked toward me. The thought of running did come to mind, but it was accompanied by his friend “ I was here first! Get your own cool down shade spot!!!” Which of course I didn’t want to say, simply because he looked like he could crush me into a bloody pulp, which would completely ruin my afternoon. “You need to get out of this place, it isn’t safe,” He said, his voice was deep and all that junk, “Come with me if you want to live!” A terminator line, nice…… not really….. “ Umm two things. I am not coming with you! And two, who are you?” “You must leave this realm! If he catches you here-” “If who catches me here?” This was getting sorta weird…. “ The Humonid!! He will find you and steal your magic essence with his tongue!! Follow me and I will protect you!” “ For one that is extremely gross. And two: I don’t know who you are or what nut house you escaped from, but Im going to head back to my house, and call the nice people in white suites with the big needles to come and pick you up. Ok, sound like a plan?” I began to leave the area, abandoning my self claimed tree, in the direction of my home, where I planned never to speak off this nutjob. “Don’t leave without me! I must protect you,” he yelled to me, trying to run back to me, “The Humonid will devour your essence!!” “ Umm thanks for the help, but I think I will take my chances with the hemroid” “The Humonid!! Let me at least walk you to the line!” “ No thanks Im good! Just go back to your Nut Hut!” I didn’t look back, but the silence behind me told me that he had given up all hope of ‘protecting’ me. Pedophile. Anyways, I continued my walk back to the sidewalk. I was almost there when I heard a crack behind me. “ Okay dude, Im serious, you don’t need to follow me! Im a white belt and Im not afraid to go all Asian fighting style thingy on you!” By this time I had turned fully around to face something that wasn’t the biker guy. In front of me was a leopard tiger zebra hippo mix. The head of a lion, the body of a leopard, completely covered with black and white zebra strips, and the, how do I put this, rump of a hippo. It was some strange African freak of nature. “Oh hello there, you must be this hemroid that I’ve been hearing so much about!” I have no idea why I had said that. I mean I wasn’t scared or anything, I was just a little shocked. “ I am Humonid, hunter of the magical! I have come for you essence!” he roared. “Oh how lovely! You talk! Well then, I must inform you that Ive given my magical whossamawhat to some other African animal. Im sorry, but your to late.” “Don’t toy with me, boy! I can smell your essence! It is strong, which must be w  more

Resolved Question: playstation move vs kinect/?

A long while ago i posted a question asking whether you think project natal (now called Kinect) or playstation motion control (now called ps move) is better. I didnt get nearly any posts cuz not many ppl knew bout it. but now that most ppl have seen it i'll ask again, which do you think is better. Here is how i stack them both up Kinect: Pros-"Your body is the control". It places you in the game. It can scan your image and any other random object you have. It has facial, voice, and emotion recognition. and thats about it Cons-it is not presice, meaning the movement is delayed. I dont see it being compatable with many gaming genres. i only see it for sports, fighting and maybe racing. I dont think anyone would want to pretend to hold a steering wheel for an entire race let alone an entire game. you would get lazy. i want you to pretend you are holding a steering wheel and stay like that as long as you can so you can see what im talking about. Also, games that come out for Kinect are only for the kinect, meaning you cant use the x box remote if you get tired or annoyed. and the games displayed for it, overall, seem childish. its pricing is between 150 to 200 bucks. PS Move: Pros- it is compatable with any and all game genre's. itcan be for both casual and hardcore gamers. If you have an eyetoy already you dont need a new one. It is the most precise out of all 3 big name systems when it comes to movement. unlike the kinect, not all of its games require the motion control, you can switch out to the regualar duelshock 3 if you get uncomfortable with any game. Cons-i would say the bundles. if you pre order the ps move you can either get the eye toy and the controller or two controllers. it doesnt come with the "nun chuck" looking thing so you would have to but it. but at most you would spend about 50 to 100 bucks on it. My opinion: i go for ps move as a biggers seller. Microsoft assumed it was immediatley going to trump sony with this until the move was released on e3 (lolz they mad salty now). not trying to offend anyone but, the ps move provides more gaming quality and more game variety for any kind type of gamer and any age. if ps doesnt sell equal to kinect then it "will" sell more no matter what. the only ppl who would actually buy kinect are those stubborn ppl who just want to say that their system is better and that dont want to admit defeat. (and you cant say im wrong) i have two friends. one with the 360 the other with ps3. they each d-ride their system to make it seem as it theirs is better. when both of these systems first came out the "only"reason 360 sold more than ps3 "at first" was becasue of the ps3's price, after that they have been neck and neck. i think this will change the pace the game big time. i rated based on all genre campatibility, game compatability, enjoyment, pricing, realism, and other wii +(dont know why I mentioned it)- 62/100 kinect-86/100 psmove-90/100 (p.s. nothing is perfect)  more

Resolved Question: Do the akashic records exist?

I had a psychic friend access the akashic records to find out things about the past present and future. But in order to go there you have to sacrifice something. Well my friend revealed two more past lives that I hadn't remembered because one of them I was an animal. Then he said something about 2 more kids I would have and after that something wonderful would happen and I would be completely happen but he withheld that info from me and said "let the sleeping dogs lie"(which made me furious). Anyway he said the spirits here also said that spirits come to me in my dream(I am also psychic, not voluntary though) and I should not touch them or 1 of 2 things will happen: 1)I would not wake up and would be stuck in the dream world or 2) I would bring the creatures in my dream out into reality. That's creepy and I don't think its possible, but now that I think about it, I don't touch things in my dream and if I did I don't do it for long. So anyway after he returned, he had a massive headache and threw up black...something. He didn't eat anything that color that day nor was he sick prior to this. He never threw up stuff like that before either. What is the meaning of this? For the super logical, here's a site referance for this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akashic_records The akashic records (akasha is a Sanskrit word meaning "sky", "space" or "aether") is a term used in theosophy (and Anthroposophy) to describe a compendium of mystical knowledge encoded in a non-physical plane of existence. These records are described as containing all knowledge of human experience and the history of the cosmos. They are metaphorically described as a library; other analogues commonly found in discourse on the subject include a "universal computer" and the "Mind of God". People who describe the records assert that they are constantly updated and that they can be accessed through astral projection. The concept originated in the theosophical movements of the 19th century. It is frequently used in New Age discourse. Claims made by those advocating the existence of akashic records cannot be empirically tested, and therefore fall outside the jurisdiction of scientific inquiry.[1]  more

Resolved Question: Are there any religions out there that are wrong?

If yes, then by definition there must be a right religion, right? How can any be defined as wrong if you don't have a right one? is this religion wrong? Chen Tao This New Religious Movement was a mix of Buddhism, Taoism, and UFOlogy. They emphasized transmigration of souls and three souls per person, and placed great emphasis on spiritual energy. They also believed in "outside souls" who basically acted as bad influences in human world or even as demons. Chen believed that the Earth went through five tribulations going back to the age of the dinosaurs. Each of these tribulations were survived by beings living in North America who were rescued by God in a flying saucer. He believed the solar system is 4.5 trillion years old, or roughly 300 times the age science gives for the Universe. He believed that the solar system was created by a nuclear war. The group is best known for a highly publicized, and failed, millennial prophecy. Shortly after moving to Garland in August 1997, Chen predicted that at 12:01 a.m. on March 31, 1998 God would be seen on a single television channel all across North America. Whether or not you had cable service was irrelevant to God's appearance on that channel. When the predicted appearance did not occur, the group became confused. "The Chen Tao leader announced that he obviously had misunderstood God's plans, and members quietly returned to their homes," wrote Szubin. Chen offered to be stoned or crucified for the event, but no one took him up on this offer. He had earlier made a false prediction of finding a "Jesus of the West" who would look like Abraham Lincoln. If it is wrong then there must be a right one, right? Hmmm.... I wonder which one it is? you guys arn't even using those things on top of your necks. How can something be defined as wrong if there is not a right?  more

Resolved Question: What type of spider is this (Description only)?

I ran into a new type of spider today that I haven't seen before. I was cooking and when I went to get a lid for a pot underneath the stove he was hiding in that sliding cabinet. I first felt the web with my hand so i moved back. and that's when I saw the spider running away. I had some fly paper around so I caught the spider by the top and he's now here trapped. It looks identical to a Black Widow in size and movement with the same shape body. The thing is it's a beige colour so I don't know what it could be. I live in central Ontario and I do know we get the Northern Black Widow here since they did a news study on it a few years ago. On it's abdomen there are 3 dark spots kind of in the shape of diamonds or triangles one on the centre bottom and 2 in the centre left and right leaning away respectfully. kind of like this \|/ of course more precise and the middle one is lower. I also know from the news study that the northern Black Widow doesn't have the hourglass shape on it either so this is what got me curious. Are northern Black widows always black or do they turn black with age? Also what colour are the males? I would take a picture if I had a camera but I don't have any batteries. Anyone know what type of spider this is? I don't really want to stick my hand into that cabinet again until I'm sure it's safe.  more

Resolved Question: Why do statists think that anti-statists are "nihilists"?

http://opinionator.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/06/13/the-very-angry-tea-party/?sr Here's a quote from this article from the soon to be bankrupt New York Times: "In truth, there is nothing that the Tea Party movement wants; terrifyingly, it wants nothing. Lilla calls the Tea Party “Jacobins”; I would urge that they are nihilists. To date, the Tea Party has committed only the minor, almost atmospheric violences of propagating falsehoods, calumny and the disruption of the occasions for political speech — the last already to great and distorting effect. But if their nihilistic rage is deprived of interrupting political meetings as an outlet, where might it now go? With such rage driving the Tea Party, might we anticipate this atmospheric violence becoming actual violence, becoming what Hegel called, referring to the original Jacobins’ fantasy of total freedom, “a fury of destruction”? There is indeed something not just disturbing, but frightening, in the anger of the Tea Party." I want to rebut the 2 main distortions here. Firstly, this statist is distorting history. In the French Revolution, the classical liberal (libertarian) faction was known as the Girondins, not the Jacobins. The Girondins were the French Revolutionaries who sought "total freedom." Probably the most famous Girondin was Tom Paine, who was previously a leader of the American Revolution. The Jacobins were a group of far-left totalitarian statists who jailed and guillotined most of the Girondins and anybody else who opposed their tyrannical agenda. The heirs of the Jacobins in the modern world are the Hegelians, both the left-Hegelians (Communists) and right-Hegelians (Fascists/Nazis). The Tea Party is within the tradition of the Girondins. Likewise, the Tea Party is not a "nihilist" movement, although it may seem that way to people who regard the State as their God. What the Tea Party and other anti-statists believe in is something called individual liberty, private property, and the free market. When the statists say that there is something "disturbing" and "frightening" in the Tea Party, isn't that a sign that they are terrified that the Age of Statism may finally be coming to an end?  more

Resolved Question: what is wrong with my hip?

i am 20 and almost every day my hips hurt to the point of tears. mainly my right hip, but more recently my left hip is troubling me as well. this has been going on for years. i will feel a pop, then for a couple hours every move i make will make the joint grind and i will feel little snags, until the joint makes another big 'pop' again. it is very painful and lasts for a long time. i cant put a whole lot of weight on the affected leg, but if i stop moving it feels like my joint just freezes up completely. i have limited movement of both hips even before they pop. i cant sit crossed legged. if i force my legs to go beyond the point i feel the resistance, they begin to hurt very badly, and then they pop and i will be in severe pain for hours. it is hard for me to 'hurdle' over things. i am a cashier at a lumber company. if someone brings up a cart with wood in it and i cant go around, i have to jump over... and i just cant do it easily. even a foot or two off the ground and i have a hard time lifting one leg up that high and pushing hard enough with the other to get over it. side stepping over it is a problem too... the limitations with my hips make it hard for day to day life. i have popped my hip just getting out of the car. i have gone to the doctor countless times for this, and she keeps saying that it is a sore muscle... not torn but sprained is what i think she has said. i had to throw a fit just to get an x-ray! i have stopped going, and right now i don't have insurance. i know what a sprained muscle feels like... and this is not it. not only that... i don't believe muscles will remain sprained for years. i am terrified that i am destroying the cartilage in my joints. i work on my feet for 8 hours a day. i cant take this pain any more. i have seriously considered getting a cane, but i just stand the thought of having to use one at the age of 20! i cant even sleep sometimes because of it. if i roll over the wrong way it pops and here we go again! if anyone can help, that would be great. at least i can go to a new doctor with an idea of what is wrong with me, and hopefully this one will try a little harder. i just want them fixed. wow. thanks David! this really sounds like either: bilateral degenerative arthritis (osteoarthritis), (mostly) or hip laberal tear (bilateral). i guess neither one is good. I will find out this thursday. Got a doctors appointment. i will certainly be one to update the list when i get the news. again, thanks!  more

Resolved Question: Why has art and design reached a point where we replicate past styles instead of make new ones?

What is Post-postmodernism, nobody really seems to know and if they do they write in such a way that is vague and confusing! I am interested in whether or not art and design has reached a point where nothing is new anymore (with the exception of what we can do with new technologies). Since the end of WW2 it has been pointed out that we have begun to replicate the past styles of art movements. I am interested in the social implications of art. How modernism and art nouveau are responses to the industrial revolution etc. Have we simply got to a point in society where the western world has hit a wall of development and therefore there is nothing to inspire an art movement? Or has the re-trib-ing of our people affected design styles. The multi-national and ethnicities and cultures all living together in western society may mean that we are all influenced and inspired by so many different aspects of different cultures and it is such a mix that our design can begin to look similar? There has been Modernism, Post-Modernism and now are we in the ages of Post-Post-Modernism.... If so why has a wholly different art movement not been introduced, will be eventually have post-post-post modernism?? I would love to hear peoples honest opinions for research for an essay! maybe i have chosen a subject that is scary, but its something I would like to learn about.  more

Her book Conversations on Common Things(1864) has sixteen editions by 1869. In 1831 she open a model school for girls in Boston. But, in 1836 her health failed her again. In hopes of a cure she traveled to England. There she meet the Rathbones, who invited her to spend a year as their quest at the Greenbank, their ancestral mansion in Liverpool. She met both men and women who believed that government should play a active role in social welfare. She exposed to the British lunacy reform movement , whose methods involved investigations of madhouses and asylums, the results were published in reports to the House of Commons. When she returned to America ,in 1840-1841, shed conducted a statewide investigation of how Massachusetts cared for the insane poor. In most towns local individuals toke care of people who had mental disorders. She published the results in a fiery report, a Memorial, to state legislature. "I proceed, Gentlemen, briefly to call your attention to the present state of Insane Persons confined within this Commonwealth, in cages, stalls, pens! Chained, naked, beaten with rods, and lashed into obedience." Her lobbying was a bill to expand the state's mental hospital in Worcester. In 1846 she traveled to Illinois to study their treatment of mental illness. She became ill again in winter 1846 and spent the winter in Springfield, Illinois recovering. In 1849, she went to North Carolina, and called for reform in the care for the mentally ill patients. In 1849 when the North Carolina State Medical Society was formed, the care of mentally ill patients was authorized. The hospital named in the honor of Dorthea Dix opened in 1856. She founded the first public mental hospital in Pennsylvania, the Harrisburg State Hospital. During the Civil War she was appointed Superintendent of Union Army Nurses. She cared for both Union and Confederate wounded. Often that was the only care the Confederate soldiers had. In 1881 Dix moved into the New Jersey State Hospital, Morris Plains, where the state legislature let her stay in a private suite for as long as she lived. And Invalid, yet managing to correspond with people from England all the way to Japan. She died on July 17, 1887.Dix was buried in Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge , Massachusetts. Resolved Question: Am I being controlled?

I'm due any day now - and am nervous etc, also suddenly overwhelmed with emotions (like I cried over an advert). However my family are concerned my husband is controlling me & I worry they may be right. Tonight he told me that when I've given birth it will be up to us to tell my family when they can visit me in hospital - they can't just come when they like. This annoys me - firstly visting times are VERY restricted, secondly I want my parents (especially my mum) there straight away. I don't have a problem with my family visiting. My husband cut his family off for some reason & won't speak to them. Also there are only two visitors allowed in the one hour spot. Partners are allowed for longer, and of course I want him with all the time he's allowed. Which brings up another point... he wants his son to come up with him. I can kinda understand him wanting to show off to his son - but I'd rather see my own son. If he's going to tell my family WHEN they can visit - why does he think I'm OK with his son coming up - especially if I'm recovering from a caesarean - also his son NEVER washes his hands after a bowel movement. I just wish he'd ask me - but it seems even now I have no say over anything. My husband has also dictated that when we come home my family will be encouraged to not visit so I can rest & bond. Yet his son lives here & I'm not close to him & would rather see my family.... also if I'm breastfeeding I sure as hell don't want a 19yr old walking around. His son has caused no ends of problems & I've been slated on here. Yet spoke to a psychologist friend who helped put it into perspective. Firstly my ss was an adult before we married. He'd decided to move out before the wedding. However he's now changed his mind (he has somewhere to go). Whether he's my husband's son or not - I am living with two grown men... NOT my husband & his little boy. I have a son the same age & he is independent/ My stepson won't wash-up or clean, he can't use a washing machine, he cannot cook. Tonight hubby went mad at me when I complained. I have trouble moving & had to wash up. The two of us had salad & little washing up... hubby cooked a full meal for his son.. I moaned that we shouldn;t have to cook then wash for two separate meals - and he went mad at me... I hate to think what it'll be like when baby is born. Part of me wants to run. Sure I knew he was a dad - but we used to go out to meals, his son was moving out, we both had adult children, and we're having a new family. After we wed I found out that hubby cooks for his son (who gets in a mood if he doesn;t) & the son can have somewhere to go then change his mind... I don't know his son really (have tried) but somehow the dynamics are wrong. I have asked hubby if his son could cook and wash for himself but he feels obliged to do it (stupid when we have to make separate meals as he won't eat the same as us). I'd really like it if when we come home his son could stay with his mum (who has said he can) if only for a couple of weeks, but he doesn't want to. I just want some time for me, hubby & baby to bond without his son demanding meals be cooked and clothes washed... ??? I know he doesn't wash his hands as the toilet and bathroom are separate... he comes straight out of the toilet into his room or downstairs... I deplore the "he can be the big brother your baby needs" that is bs!!! My son is just as much important & my husband refuses to have him in the house!  more

Resolved Question: What do you think of this poem?

Terminal Beauty In mindless games and awful torture No foretold shame exists. The human mind exhibits nurture, As it's possessed and wretched thoughts persist. The petty imbecile ideas, have drowned The healthy superstitions of a conscientious man. New ages constantly appear. Again, Kings crowned, Feats set accomplished. Truth won't have role in the eternal plan. Unwilling to divulge the sorrow, Forsaken guards deny the presence of bodacious beasts. Those lost in paradise will die tomorrow, When they discover kindred spirits at the feast. There's foolish pride in coarse beliefs. An undeniable existence of stubborn words in stone. Each fluid movement paralyzes the fabrication of new leafs. As we afresh attempt abandon, all that is left is dust and bone. What comes to mind after you've read this poem? What do you think it's about? What does it mean to you?  more

Resolved Question: Does Jesus refute the new age movements heresy of "unconditional" love in St. John's Gospel, chapter 14?

CONDITIONAL John 14:23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him." (end-quote) Sounds like a pretty big and conditional "if", no?  more

Resolved Question: What do you think of an old fashion marriage?

I'm the kinda of guy that wants a woman that is the way women use to be in the 30's, a house wife, cook, clean, and take care of things. It seems to me that since the women's rights movement that women don't care to be traditional any more. If a marriage would be based on those times I believe there would be more that last. Everyone would be happier. Most of the marriages today seem to be based on the new age marriage, husband, wife, and friends. All you hear about is who is cheating on who, who is abusing who, it seems the vows that people take on their wedding day is blown right out the window as soon as they leave the church, maybe people need to start reading the bible more to find out how to be a spouse. If schools would go back to teaching girls how to be proper women and wife's when that day comes and boys how to be men and proper husband's when that day comes, this old world would be better off. Call me old fashion or what you will, but that's just my thought and two cents.  more

Voting Question: What kind of essay is this?

What kind of essay is this? I was supposed to write an entertaining speech for, well speech but i think i wrote an informative one :( If i did how can i make it entertaining without changing too much First off, there are many issues plundering the planet, one such issue is global warming. According to a new U.N. report, the global warming outlook is much worse than originally predicted. Which is pretty bad considering they originally predicted it would destroy the planet. This is a serious problem though, as by 2050 not only will the Asian invasion be upon us but we will also be out of party ice! That would be very bad indeed. Al Gore made a movie called "An Inconvenient Truth" that's highly recommend, but you should take my advice and watch the other great global warming movie, "Ice Age 2". Of course for the more traditional books types Al Gore has also released a book, which has a chapter on how we should reduce the number of trees cut down to make books. Next, is an issue I'm sure all of you have heard of: Arizona's immigration bill. I've heard they already stopped a hundred people - and that was just in one van! The Senate voted to build a 370-mile fence along the Mexican border. … Because, you know, Experts say a 370-mile fence is the perfect way to protect a border that is 2000 miles long. The Mexican border will now have surveillance cameras and motion detectors. Our borders will be as secure as The Gap. Some say that massive deportation is unrealistic and that you can't just move 12 million people to another country. I don't know, Mexico did it. The good news is that Congress is cracking down on illegal immigration. The bad news: a head of lettuce will now cost $300. Lastly, the most horrendous innovation that is slowly corroding the minds of today's youth: social networking sites. Ever since FaceBook was created in 2004, it's been helping the youth of the world share unnecessary disturbing information such as this quote from Gloria Mush: “Hi Tammy, I still haven't had a bowel movement, thanks for asking. How's your boil? Did you put butter on it like I said? Yum, butter ROTFLMAO. BTW, I found out they do make Victoria Secret in my size but I have to get it through the truck stop. Gotta shave, ttyl.” Even though Darla Holmes has the same last name as the infamous Sherlock Holmes their intelligence levels are on two different planes of existence highlighted by the fact that she failed her own “How Well do You Know Me Quiz” with a 64. Now that's sad. And when people like Bart Smithy expect you to get drunk on digital wine when they (quote) “Just sent you a little Rohypnol in hopes of getting some tonight...” That's when I loose all faith in humanity.  more

Resolved Question: How can I get back the positive New Age energy that I used to have like I used to own the world?

About a decade ago, including my last year of high school and first years in college, were some of the best years of my life. I had a great outlook on life, my grades were good, I had lots of friends, I was really into eating healthy foods and just all around felt great physically and spiritually. I could speed read, my comprehension while reading and studying was great, and I just owned the world. Over the years I made some bad choices, like smoking cigarettes for a number of those years. Life also took its toll and it has been quite stressful trying to keep on top of things. I started as New Age Christian which was great. I went to the wrong kind of churches though and didn't know what I was getting myself into and for some of those years leaned more towards the fundamentalist viewpoints which did absolutely nothing for me spiritually. I eventually realized this and moved away from religion altogether, keeping the spiritual beliefs. So now I find myself financially stable, but lacking the same New Age outlook. It really doesn't matter if planet Nibiru actually exists or some of the other things that New Agers believe in. I probably would never believe that and if I did there would be no harm. Thinking back, it seems like something that did a lot of good to be into the New Age movement. So how do I get back that same outlook that I used to have? Thoughtful answers to the question are appreciated  more

Resolved Question: Is the "new age" movement really just a bunch of mumbo-jumbo?

As stated by Jesse Ventura, lol. Why or why not? Um, not to be mean, but personally I think believing in the devil is more ridiculous than being a new ager. Oooh Michael please do email me more if you'd like to educate me. Whether it's true or not am definitely interested. I usually don't develop an opinion about something unless I learn a good deal about it. I think everything is worth looking into and have an open mind. I'm sorry HereIam, but science proves up to 11 dimensions with the "M" or "String" Theory. They all exist simultaneously and are overlapping. We can not see them because we are only capable of seeing a range of frequencies which can only exist in the third density. Had our pineal glands not become so useless because of the fluoride in our water we might be able to see some other entities. What would you say to that? "It is the mark of an intelligent mind to entertain a thought without fully accepting it." (Aristotle) To he who knows where his towel is, our government openly admitted that in the disclosure project about the aliens. So yeah everyone know about that, but does that have anything to do with the new age? Say Ryan, you sound a lot like my friend Ryan. Would your last name be Brigante by chance? Anyways, thanks for the info. I have seen Zeitgeist, but there is still much I do not know, but I am eager to learn. So I'm guessing this new age believes has a lot of random beliefs to it? *****belief  more

Voting Question: what would be a brief overview of this document?? please help *** 10 points?

Unless you just happened to accidentally stumble in here, you probably already know what Photoshop is and you're here to increase your knowledge or look for a solution to a nagging problem. During my tenure here at InformIT, I aim to accomplish both those things. However, for those of you who do not yet know the full range of what Photoshop is and what it is capable of doing, here's a quick breakdown: Photoshop — as its name implies — is a software package that takes all the powers of a professional photography studio and brings it into your own hands and onto your own personal computer. Debuting way back in the dark ages of computers (1987), Photoshop has grown into the end-all be-all of image editing/manipulation/creation programs. Photoshop has become so powerful, and its legions of loving users have become so skilled at using it, that photography — a medium that has long garnered a reputation of preserving facts — is now under question. Images can be crafted and manipulated so skillfully with Photoshop that — in many cases — you can't tell an altered image from an unaltered one. A fellow Art Center College of Design alumni, (well...he was a near alumni anyway) Matt Mahurin, became an unwilling epitome of this movement when he digitally darkened OJ Simpson's face for the cover of the magazine in 1994. As you can imagine — or may remember — both he and Time Magazine received a lot of flack for a move which underscored the beginning of a new era. So as you're probably beginning to understand, Photoshop isn't just another software program that you're learning; it's a culture, it's a movement, and it's changing the way society is perceiving reality. With that deep stuff out of the way, here's a short — and highly truncated — list of some of the things Photoshop CS is capable of: •Fix images with poor color or lighting conditions. Improve detail and clarity in washed-out images or reveal parts of an image hidden in shadow. •Remove the dreaded "red eye." •Repair old photographs. Fix up grandma and grandpa's wedding photos! •Creating photo composites. Remember, in elementary school art classes, when you would cut photos out of magazines and paste them together to create a new composition? Imagine being able to do that again but having the power to make it look real. •Combine multiple photos together to create a panoramic photograph. •Easily print a contact sheet to fit as many photos as possible of your daughter's first day at school onto a single sheet of paper. •Create business cards, letterheads, logos, flyers, newsletters, and posters using images and text. •Use built-in filters and styles to easily apply various effects to your images and text. •Anything else you can imagine, Photoshop CS can probably do. This section of the InformIT.com Web site, the Photoshop Reference Guide, is designed to be your primary resource for learning Photoshop. This Photoshop Reference Guide consists of the following areas (see links to each section on the left): Each area covers one or more of Photoshop's tools or features. To make it as easy and enjoyable as possible, each area has a main tutorial that introduces you to the concepts of that area. In addition, you'll find lots of tips and additional resources to help you master the skills you want to learn. In addition to the content accessible through the Table of Contents on the left side of this page, I also update the main page of the Photoshop Guide and the weblogs weekly with all the latest news, cool tricks, tips, and commentary. I look forward to being your guide in this giant adventure called Photoshop!  more
