At what point down the line would a bill for services become unenforcable if not paid? For example if you have signed up with a company for a service many years ago, but you noticed that you hadn't been charged for a long time for that service when it was usually a monthly charge to your card, you keep sending them emails requesting help and to know what is going on, whether you have pre-paid for service a few years in advance, if it is now free service etc, but they ignore your emails and don't reply. You can't get into your account because you don't know or remember your username or password anymore. If you are still receiving a service that your not getting charged for at what point would it become unenforcable for them to still bill you? Is there a limit in years? And does the fact I have sent several emails to them requesting help on this and highlighting this issue which have gone ignored count for anything? Wouldn't you think that a company operating in todays climate would be chasing this up with you and wanting to be paid? If this was my business I would have sent letters and telephone and emailed. I believe that they may have an old email address on file for me that has been invalid for a long time. They should still have my phone number and address details though as they have not changed. I have sent a number of emails but they have not been responded to. What would you do in that situation? I believe it is a US company so it may come under US law. I am in the UK. I just Honorably discharged from the Army Infantry after 5 Years of service ( Staff Sergeant / E-6 ) I was born in UK and lived in USA since I was 3 yrs old, my parents both us Citizens never put me on the "List" when it came time to be a citizen. Is it possible I can still be a city cop this way? I also apply for my citizenship next week through an Army base here. Are there any special conditions I can qualify to apply as a city cop or will I have to wait until I am Naturalized? Thanks .... I tried to order some sandals from the Topshop website, but I accidentally used my delivery address as my billing address and my card was declined. I tried this twice before noticing (couldn't understand why my card was declined!) and checked my available balance. I called my bank and asked about my recent transactions and it turns out my available balance has gone down because I appear to have been charged for the two transactions that were declined! I called Topshop customer services and asked when the money would be restored to my account and they said anything from fifteen minutes to three days, but low and behold, three days later the money has still not been restored to my available balance. Has anyone else had this problem before? Obviously I can't spend more than my available balance and I have bills to pay. I bought my boyfriend the Blackberry Curve 8520 a month ago and I had to pay a £20 top up on an Orange sim card. Surely if the phone had credit it'd be able to browse the internet normally. Surprisingly it won't. Is there a certain set-up that I need to do? At the moment the phone is just as Pay As You Go, not on contract and he'll be using his T-Mobile sim card after the credit on the Orange card has finished. Any help? right so....i bought myself the nvidia gtx 480, installed it on my computer, and played a few games (all ran perfectly at 60 fps and AvP ran in DirectX 11 mode)...i loved it!!! It seems that when you buy from a store and pay by card, staff are told to offer cash back. Bearing in mind this is not a good move on the consumers part becasue you pay a higher rate of interest with no interest free period, if it's a credit card, why do they offer this service? I can think of a few possibilities for myself - generally giving you the option of a service, less cash in the till, maybe the credit card offers the store a discount because the creditor makes more money on withdrawn cash - I just wondered if anyone knows the facts? She knew what was going to happen today, who else would have sent her that valentine card, not to mention the many roses and chocolates and the special bracelet that she her self had pointed out to him-him only. She had guessed correctly as she was greeted by the nervous Yanni [aka Albert-no one was sure how Yanni came up] at the doorway. He quickly dragged her to his bedroom stating that his parents were out. ‘Sally I have to tell you something’ he said, almost panting ‘I, I, -well we’ve been friends for a long time Sally, ermm well I was, ermm’ he paused, looking up at sally through his lashes ‘I, I love you’. As much as Sally was expecting this it still came as a shock, and the awkwardness was unavoidable. She loved her Yanni very much, but in a brother way, she knew that however many year they would remain best friends her feelings would not change for him. She had know this day would happen at some point in the near future, she had imagined it in her mind, how it would be and how she would feel. It would be awkward –check, he would be embarrassed –check, she to would be blushing –SUPER CHECK. But she had never thought that she would feel he emotion she felt at that moment. A great sadness swept over like an unavoidable ocean wave, and she was tied by his love, right at the bottom of the sea. ‘I love you to Yanni’ sally mumbled. Being kicked out of the house was the more pleasant part of the consequences of being violated by your best friend. Today, I heard something being delivered through my letter box, assuming it was a leaflet or letter I got off my chair and went to the door, and surprise surprise it's a "Sorry you were out" red card. I live in a flat next to stairs, and the Post-person didn't come back when I shouted excuse me. This is the second time. The first time around three months ago, the exact same thing happened and I telephoned the local delivery office and asked to speak to the manager who assured me that he would have a word with the Postman involved. Well it's happened again, and after looking through several forums, it seems they're making a habit of doing this nationwide. I just wonder if they're creating extra work for themselves for overtime or are they hoping to proffit from the £1.50 collect at your local Post Office fee. I know it's a misleading headline but I need help I wanted to record sound with recording software such as WeGame, Hypercam and Fraps. I tried to withdraw money out of my account today to find i had reached my dailly limit....after checkin my statement on the machine it showed that i had withdrew 300 pound on that day and the day before...£600 pound in total. This can be quite a long story so i will try and cut it down to as short as possible. I have just come back off my hols and the b&b we were meant to be staying in, had a few problems. when we arrived, there was not a car park (or we couldnt find one anyway) so my friend went and knocked on the door and stood around 10mins with no answer. We then rang a lady whose mobile we had and she directed us to this "car park" All it was was a grass verge for two cars to fit on, wasnt private or secure, just a side road behind the b&b. there was also a sign there saying, "Do not park here, you will be clamped" so i said to this lady i wasnt parking there, one coz of the sign and two coz of the "car park" not really being a car park" We then went to the room, and the person finally answered the door and gave us two single rooms whereas our request was a twin. By this point i was very angry and said i wanted my deposit back (£100) to which the owner said (on the phone) he would send in the post but i didnt believe him so wanted something in writing to which he refused to do so. I said could i have it refunded back onto the card and we arranged to meet the following to get this deposit back, and he never turned up so we tried ringing him and couldnt get any answer from the owner or the lady who we rang on the first day. The b&b we ended up staying in said about reporting them to trip advisor, tourist board and the site to which we booked with. THe b&b wasnt on the tourist board and i will put a review on trip advisor soon. The owner said to us, when we finally got through to him yesterday that our reasons were pathetic and we would have no chance of getting our money back. We feel that it is a ligitimate reason, as the service and instructions were misleading or wrong and that it could be classed as theft. Im wanting to get an orange pay monthly sim only plan , as they have no phones i want to take at the minute. I currently use an o2 pay monthly simplicity sim but the service i get from o2 is pretty crap and i was on orange before and it was great. But i just turned 18 on thursday and got declined for an upgrade to a debit card (raging so i left them) from nationwide because of the credit check because i have no credit, so that makes me wonder about my credit rating, but they usually take anyone for sim only plans as they arent subsidising a phone or anything. So i am going to apply for a new sim from orange if i pay my bills and all that after 3 months orange will let me upgrade to a full 18, 24 or 38 month contract. a few days ago my computer had problems and broke down, my power supply was on the way out - so i phoned my local computer repair shop and took it there , while i was there i decided i would treat myself and buy a new bigger harddrive , get a better sound card - the guy who dealt with me seemed friendly and helpful initially , but i had to leave my computer at the shop to be serviced and fixed and upgraded . when i went back to check on my computer and later in the day to finally pick it up, the guy who was addressing my computer , i thought he seemed like a likeable guy , on my wavelength ,he seemed to know about things i like and are interested in - so i found that i became talkative , inquisitive and chatty around the guy - but after a short while i noticed the initial open and friendliness seemed to fade , replaced my a serious atmosphere and vibe - no longer chatty or amiable or shooting the breeze but instead quiet and serious , and at one point he didnt at all return my open and talkative , friendly vibe , didn't reciprocate my attitude at all but stayed silent, no loner chatty or open but serious and silent , having the attitude of ' no more tolerance for talk ' . at another occasion when i was stood there at the front desk waiting - one of his younger colleagues in the shop, a young thin guy with a mowhekan hair cut , that seemed full of self importance and had a lot to say for himself was on the phone talking to a customer and i felt he was actually insinuating things indirectly on the phone with blunt , harsh tones . at one point he said to the person on the phone '' actually in reality , you can't do that ''. i just ignored it and stayed concentrated on my list of questions for the guy who was attending to my computer , overall , he did fix and upgrade my computer ok, it cost me alot , they got the job done - but i felt that the surface friendliness i initially experienced was only fake and underneath in reality were serious , unfriendly standoffish vibes - maybe that they actually didnt like me. i worry because ive experienced this type of behaviour in general in the local community by the public for a long while , in supermarkets , post offices , pie and cake shops and ive just tried to ignore it, and its hard not to get angry in reaction to it. im a 32 year old man that has faced quite a few adversities in my life : social problems , anger problems , psychological problems, anxiety problems , criminal record , rage problems , victimisation in earlier life , and i missed out on all the normal things in life so far : relationships , jobs , education , qualifications - missed out on all those things. im determined as i always have been to get through whatevers in front of me and the main goal i have is to '' somehow '' get a decent paid job then eventually move to a coastal area near the coast, a seaside village, buy my own home. but im aware that you need peoples help in life dont you to a certain extent to get along ? and if people in the community keep on behaving like this towards me ......- what am i supposed to do ? i feel like there is some type of negative press circulating about me , that ive been vilified and have a bad public image - although, i have no evidence for that. i feel angry that i was nice , open, friendly and talkative in the first place , i felt i should of remained aloof. moreVoting Question: Seen UK top 5 broadband rip-offs? & how best to deal with 'em? UK's top broadband rip-offs, together with a few ideas on how you can combat them. 1) Super-fast broadband You might think super-fast broadband sounds amazing. Lightning-fast deals via next-generation fibre technology allow you to surf the net at more than 5 times the usual speed (50Mb). Unfortunately, however, super-fast broadband generally comes with a much higher price tag than packages with standard connection speeds. And I think, at £40 a month, providers are ripping us off - especially when you take into account a 8Mb package with a 10GB usage limit can cost less than £6 a month. The fact is, unless you need faster speeds for things like watching internet TV or downloading HD movies regularly, these packages probably have far greater capability than you really need. If you're not a heavy user, paying the higher monthly cost is a waste of money, frankly. 2) Restrictions on download limits Many broadband providers boast of unlimited download limits, only to accompany these bold statements with a little asterisk which, on closer inspection directs you to a fair use policy that restricts the amount you can actually download. Fair use policies are often a get out of jail free card for providers which advertise unlimited download limits, only to impose penalties or other restrictions if you exceed a certain threshold. And, to make things even more complicated, finding out about your own download habits can sometimes feel like trying to break into Fort Knox. For example, when I called my own provider to ask them about my usage, I was only told that I ‘need not worry'. This ambiguous phrasing may make little difference in my case, but in some circumstances you'll only realise you've exceeded your fair usage limit when you get a warning from your provider – or worse, when a hefty bill lands on your doormat. If you want to gauge your surfing habits, this data usage calculator from Virgin is a nifty tool which will give you an idea of your own monthly usage, which you can then use to get the best plan for you. Alternatively, providers Be and O2 offer super-fast broadband with truly unlimited download limits. 3) Broadband without a landline. If you move into a property without a BT landline in place, it will cost you £124.99 to connect yourself to the outside world, plus £10.50 a month in line rental, unless you commit to an 18-month contract. If you don't fancy forking out all this just to get connected, one alternative is Virgin media which, providing you live in a cabled area, will connect you without the need for a BT line (£30 connection fee applies). In addition, some providers such as Tiscali make use of local loop unbundling (LLU) to bypass BT and offer inclusive line rental. LLU enables ‘local loops' (or put simply, the cable through which you receive your broadband) to be freed up so other providers can design their own broadband packages to provide alternative, and often cheaper services. The third way you can get connected to the internet without the need for a BT landline is via a dongle . Dongles provide a convenient way of getting online, though from experience provide much slower download speeds than conventional broadband. They put what's known as a 'tag' on your line, which is difficult to remove. When you run into trouble, they often point the finger at your landline provider, who then points the finger back at the broadband provider, and so on. What many people don't realise is that you have to talk to the provider you want to switch to and ask them to remove it. Luckily, Broadband Choices offers a handy list of numbers on its website to contact with regards to having a tag on your line. 5) Long contract terms Last but not least, contract lengths for broadband, and indeed your mobile phone are slowly creeping up, and these days you'll often have to sign an 18 and sometimes a 24 month contract in order to secure the best deals. However, there is light at the end of the broadband tunnel, and if you don't want to be tied into a lengthy contract, you could always opt for a provider which doesn't impose one. For example, you can now get one-month only contracts from providers like Plusnet and Zen, which enable you to switch at any time. Obviously, your broadband service is unlikely to be 100% perfect, 100% of the time, but hopefully these small tips will help you on your way to a smoother surfing experience. Happy surfing! Barney Frank and Senator Chris Dodd asking that prepaid cards – including government benefits cards, general purpose prepaid cards, payroll cards – be exempt from the fee determination set by the Federal Reserve Board under pending legislation. In its letter, CFSI said that "prepaid cards and, more importantly, the underbanked consumers using these products would be substantially harmed if the products were subject to interchange fee limits.
