Kona Frames Questions and Answers
Resolved Question: Thinking of building my next mountain bike? price break-down?
I ride (apparently) aggressive XC, I am thinking about a $600 frame 'kona kula supreme' I want a marzocchi fork but not sure how much I should spend? between $300-$600. Is a $600 dollar fork overkill on a $600 frame? its not the cost that is the concern. I have an above average disposable income ($1000/mon). I just don't want to fall victim to the... for example $4000 rims on a $2000 dollar car sect. Just looking for a good balance moreResolved Question: kona stinky frame size?
i'm 13 years old and i'm soon getting a kona stinky.i was wondering will a 17.5 inch frame fit me. i'm 5'4'' but do take into account that i will grow moreResolved Question: What Trek Full Suspension Bike should I buy?
Hello Internet. I've always been a fan of Mountain Biking.. I did a lot when I was younger but never actually spent the money on a REAL bike.. and now I've decided it's time. I have a Marin Hard Tail street bike with some tiny little front suspension and I've been using that a while. Basically I've rented Kona Dogma's, and Trek's, Specialized and others and gone out many times and I've always loved the ride. I'm seriously considering getting a trek right now. My brother has the 2009 Trek EX8 and it's a Beautiful bike, rides like a dream.. I'm not very huge on riding, but I do it every 2 weeks or so in the better months of the year. Go all over the western States to ride. But like I said before I've NEVER had a good bike for myself. I've rented nice stuff though. I've decided I might get the 2010 Trek EX7 this year. it's a decent price, and is the same frame as the EX8, Just doesn't have TREK's special rear shock. Can anyone tell me some good information regarding Trek bikes. I really want the EX7, but I'm having a hard time spending that much for a bike. I know it will get plenty of use at Gooseberry Mesa, but I'm no PRO, I'm not an extreme biker so do I really need to spend that much. What makes the EX7 so much better than the EX6.. I read that the Trek EX6 was a good all around, great bike for starters. It's the best Price/Performance that they make in this range. What does everyone think.. My brother says the EX7 is as low as I should consider, why is that? is the 5, 5.5 or EX6 all that bad? Hey.. thx for the reply. Ya the prices have dropped. A 2010 Nexus One is around $2000 usd. And the ex6 is $1,600 or so. You have a nice bike also. Yea the brakes are juicy 3's on the ex6 and Juicy 3.5's on the 7. But then the ex8 goes up to the juicy 5's disk brakes. When u say rp2 will be better for a heavier rider you mean like someone over 150-160 lbs or so? Thanks for ur reply. Ill probably get the EX7. I got a trek CC.. might as well get the nice one while I'm using the plastic. :) moreResolved Question: WETHEPEOPLE AND DIRT BIKE ADVICE!!?

Hey, I am looking at purchasing a Kona Five-O and I am wondering what size frame I should get. There is 14, 16, 18, 20 and 22in options. I used to have a Giant STP with 14.5in frame and that seemed to suit the riding I used to do. I want this bike so I can actually take it for a bit of a distance on the road comfortably (Which the STP couldn't really do) and still be able to ride down steps and jump it. I am 5'7 now and growing. Here is a picture of the bike. http://www.wiggle.co.uk/images/kona-five0-2008.jpg I am leaning towards 16in. Does that sound right? Thanks! This isn't a road bike.... moreResolved Question: Which 29er should I get?
ok im contemplating between three diferent bikes right now. 2007 bianchi rita, 2008 kona kula 2-9, and an 09 redline monocog flight 29er. I've alvays liked the monocog ever since i first saw it, but the bianchi rita has some pretty good reviews. I love kona's because i owned a shred b4, but i heard the kula isnt that great of a bike. mtbr.com ppl say the frame breaks way too easy. they're all in the same price range so thats not the issue, but the bianchi seems like the best all around, but im not sure. but im open to any suggestions. thanks. moreResolved Question: How should I respray my Kona Cindercone mountain bike? Where can I get a sticker set?

Hi there, I have a '97 Kona Lana'i and wanted to know in other peoples opinions whether it's worth upgrading the components or simply buying a new bike? I bought it from Ebay and although a nice smooth and lightweight ride, has obviously been left out in the rain for quite a while and could do with a fix up...so I'm either left with keeping the frame and replacing the comps or going for a new one. The only riding I tend to find time for is commuting to and from work so it's not as though I need great weight loss and massively high specs and I've ruled out full suspension and was considering a decent hardtail. Anyway, someone else's opinion would be appreciated. moreResolved Question: IS a 2007 Kona Coilair 19 inch frame to big for a 5'10 16 year old?

It says it had a new frame replaced under warranty 6 years ago, it has no suspension, weighs 25 pounds, XT rear derailleur, Mavic USB rims and slicks for urban riding. Truvativ cranks, riserbar, etc. $350 locally. I haven't seen it, but I'm wondering if Chromaly and the no suspension are drawbacks. I think these are good upgrades to the bike, however I'm not that knowledgeable on these things. Avid riders and builders, hopefully you can give me some advice. Is this a decent bike for the money? Thanks. moreResolved Question: Hi just wondering if my (06 brodie brat)'s bottom bracket will fit a 06 kona scrap?
Im getting into dirt jumping...im just going to sort of piece together a bike as I get the money to do it. Most parts of my bike are good enough, except the frame sucks! We were looking on bikepedia and it looks like the only part we are unsure about (whether it will work) is the bottom bracket. We know the measurement of mine, but cant find the measurement of the 06 Kona scrap anywhere on the internet...just that it uses: TruVativ Hussefelt-Howitzer stock...but cant find how big those are :P Anyone know if they are compatible? I'm looking for a new road bike, and the main criteria is going to be size. I'm 6'8", so I think I'm going to need a 62cm frame as an absolute minimum. I've looked around and found some 62cm bikes from Kona, and a 64cm frame from Trek. Any other suggestions? moreResolved Question: how much it cost for kona five-o? if only frame how much is it?
moreResolved Question: What is a reasonable and fairly cheap hard tail bike suitable for starting freeride and ready for upgrades?
I currently ride a XC bike and am starting to become interested in beginning freeride, downhill, jump orientated stuff. I am not prepared to use my XC bike for this for 2 main reasons. I don't want to wreck it and the frame is a bit to big for that kind of stuff and I very much like my man parts. I am basically looking for a bike under 250 quid that I can then start to replace and upgrade bits of when I deem fit so if I do keep up freeride, downhill, or jumps I can tailor my bike to my requirements without a big comitment at the start. I am looking at the Diamonback Overdrive 2009 for around £180. Can I just reiterate before anyone says the bike is rubbish and to go and buy a Kona Stinky or something. I am looking for a cheap bike to start out. As a beginner I am sure the stuff I put a bike though will not break anything but if it does I see it as time to upgrade. So cheapest but best bike for freeride, downhill or jumps? If I want to upgrade parts there isn't goin to be any trpouble with compatability in terms of forks then full sus frame, etc? moreResolved Question: What is a better mountain bike frame?
I have a kona fire mountain and want a full suspension bike with out paying for the whole thing. Here are the frames I have already found the '08 Marin East Peak 5" Travel frame, the '07 KHS XC 604 frame the '07 KHS XC 204 frame or the '08 Kona Dawg Deluxe Frame. They are all about $500 and full suspension. Which would be the best for cross country biking? If you know of any other frames that are about $500 that are good can you tell the website? Thanks moreResolved Question: Does Kona make good bikes compared to trek or specialized? how are the frames? is the kona coiler a good bike?
why are some peope againsst kona? moreResolved Question: how do they justify these prices?
how do they justify the price difference am i incorrect in thinking this is the same frame with a different name? the frame alone for the kula is £699 yet the hahanna you can get the whole bike for £375 obviously i know the spec is totally different, but how can they ask £225 more for a bare frame just because of a sticker, do we feel the more we pay the better the quality were getting when clearly this is not the case we pay for the brand name, eg if the ware house sent half of there products to one side getting Kona 2009 Stab Supreme DH Bike sicked on to them yet the very same bike and spec was getting apollo on them which would you choose??? we feel we would get more respect from others to be seen riding the kona then the apollo. http://www.konaretro.com/articles/catalogues/1998/98Page07.jpg http://www.konaretro.com/articles/catalogues/1998/98Page09.jpg moreResolved Question: Which sized Kona Stinky frame should I get?

I have been riding avidly for a few years now, and i think it is time for me to make the move to full suspension. I started on a 2006 Jamis Komodo 3.0, and really liked it for its beefy frame, and good for the price components (except for the shock, that got upgraded). I now feel that despite my bike being 37 pounds, and a beast, my riding demands me to make the move over to full suspension. I want a full suspension bike with 160-170 mm of suspension, ideal for the heavy duty terrain out here in Ma. and beefy enough for freeride (not lift accessed, so i have to be able to go up, but up to around 8 foot drops, really gnarly descents, i live for the downhills), but i would rather not exceed 40 pounds...as i will be pedaling it up the hills. Here are the bikes i have found to most suit my need so far: Santa Cruz Nomad (first choice, except $5000 dollars is a bit high on price range) Kona Coilair Specialized SX Trail Rocky Mountain Slayer (what model would be best, i don't think 150 mm of rear is enough) If you have ever ridden Bruce and Toms in Gloucester Ma...that is my primary riding location, and that is the style of terrain, not for weak bikes. I am hoping to keep my price around $3000 (or less) i was going to spring 4000 for the coilair deluxe, but i have heard that is flimsy because of the magic link. I can most more info if it is helpful....just answer and ask questions (about what i want for a bike) and i will answer as best i can. Thanks... I Give best answer, as always. moreResolved Question: WHICH BIKE IS BETTER? (XC racing)?

I've got a hardtail at the moment and if I wanted to buy a full sus. frame and put it on my bike would that be possible ? Would I have to replace any parts to make it work (I dunno maybe a seat post or wheels or something.) And also, how much would a new frame cost? (assuming that bike brands sell individual frames) or would I have to buy it used/already bought? Another thing, is it complicated to put a new frame on a bike? Are there any parts I could risk damaging by doing this? I know most of the parts of the bike but not how to take them apart (eg not the front derailleur, all cables, cranks/bottom bracket (or so I think its called)) I can take off my fork/handlebars, disc brakes, derailleur and generally all the simple stuff) Bike model is a devinci hucker. Heres a photo off google. Its not the exact model in the photo but its damn similar. The model I've got seems to be used more a DJ but I take it down the north shore and its fine. More of a freeride hardtail than a dj. moreResolved Question: Sub £600 mountain bike?
I am looking for a new bike to ride cross country and look to race a few times a year. Currently i am considering the Scott Scale 80 (or 70), Cannondale F4 Z or a Kona Four. I would be grateful for any keen bikers with some knowledge to provide their thoughts. My preference at the moment lies with the Scott due to owning one in the past, however I am also keen on the Cannondale. The Kona Four is full sus but just within budget but obviously the components suffer in favour of a full sus frame. Any opinions welcome! Thanks moreKona Frames Links
