Shane, a 16-year-old rap recording artist from Santa Monica known to his friends as “RAP Daddy”, goes to Cars Du Jour, an upscale automobile dealer, to purchase Honda’s new full-size SUV, the Bling Bling 2010EXT. Although the vehicle costs $46,000, Shane justifies the expense to himself by remembering that he has to have reliable transportation to get back and forth between his high school and the recording studio. Although Shane lives at home, his parents would not purchase a car for him because he refuses to clean up his room. Six months after purchasing the vehicle he loses control while driving 30 mph in a 35 mph zone. He smashes into a Crunchy Crème Doughnut truck totaling the Bling Bling. He then has the glaze splattered vehicle towed back to the dealership and demands a refund of his money. What result?

After visiting several automobile dealerships, George selects the car he wants. He likes its $10,000 price, but financing through the dealer is no bargain. He has $2000 cash for a down payment, so he needs an $8000 loan. In shopping at several banks for an installment loan, he learns that interest on most automobile loans is quoted at add-on rates. That is, during the life of the loan, interest is paid on the full amount borrowed even though a portion of the principal has been paid back. article.(Bigger isn't always better.)
Andre pires opened his automobile parts store, quickfix auto parts in 1997 in a mid-sized city located in the mid-western region of the united states. Having worked for an automobile dealership, first as technician, and later as the parts department manager, for over 15 years, andre had learned the many nuances of the fiercely competitive automobile servicing business. He had developed many contact with dealers and service technicians, which came in real handy when establishing his own retail store. Business had picked up significantly well over the years, and as a result, andre had more than doubled his store size by the third year of operation. The industry and local forecasts for the next few years were very good and andre was confident that his sales would keep growing at or above the recent levels.
However, andre had used up most of his available funds in expanding the business and was well aware that future growth would have to be funded with external fund. What was worrying andre was the fact that over the past two years, the store’s net income figures had been negative, and his cash flow sitruation had gotten pretty weak (see table 1 and 2). He figured that he had better take a good look at his firm’s financial situation and try to improve it,if possible, before his suppliers found out. He knew fully well that being shut out by suppliers would be disastrous!
Andre knowledge of finance and accounting, not unlike many small businessman, was very limited. He had often entertained the thought of taking some financial management courses, but could never find the time. One day, at his weekly bridge session, he happened to mention his problem to tom Andrews, his long time friend and bridge partner. Tom had often given him good advice in the past and andre was desperate for solution. “I’m no finance expert andre” said tom, “but you might want to contact the finance department at our local university’s business school and see if you can hire an MBA student as an intern. These students can often be very insightful, you know.”
That’s exactly what andre did. Within a week he was able to recruit Juan Plexo, a second semester MBA student, who had an undergraduate degree in accountancy and was interested in concentrating in finance. When juan started his internship, andre explained exactly what his concern were, “I’m going to have to raise fund for future growth, and given my recent profit situation, the prospects look pretty bleak. I can’t seem to put my finger on the exact cause. The commercial loan committee is going to want some pretty convincing arguments as to why they should grant me the loan. I had better put some concrete remedial measures in place. I was hoping that you can help sort things out, juan,” said andre. “I think I may have bitten off more than I can currently chew.”
Question,,
1.Juan know that he should compare Quickfix’s condition with an appropriate benchmark. How should he go about obtaining the necessary comparison data?
moreResolved Question: Garage parts and labor?
My 2004 buick rendezvous has become more vocal with me lately. Its gone from a "hum" to sounding like a WW2 plane, and now has the plane sound, with a sound like that of a "thump" similar to a train on the tracks...yes, thats right...my problem is planes, trains, and in my automobile.
I'm 99% sure its my wheel bearings. I've done the "left-right wheel test", and even put the car in neutral when the noises were the worst, with all signs pointing to wheel bearings, and NOT (thankfully) my transmission. The car only does this at 27, 32, 37, and 42 MPH. I have yet to drive above 65, and with the problem, don't want to test that out at all...
My beliefs were further reinforced after I recently found out GM had a recall on these for 5 years after the vehicle's first use, or 60000 miles (whichever came first). My car is just under 90000 miles, and is 6 years old...so GM kinda REALLY screwed the pooch for me on this...But I guess thats what you get when the government owns your car company...
Either way, I'm looking at area dealers, and I'm seeing the parts available for about $90-$130. I'm planning on moving soon, and kinda need as much money as I can save for the move. I have no problem spending $200 for parts, but what I'm concerned about is the labor. I have a local Midas which I've trusted for just about all my repairs. So far, they have yet to let me down! But I've also read that this can be a 3+ hour job, and don't want to get screwed on labor costs for hourly.
The only reason why I'd take this to a garage is because I'm basically vehicle illiterate. I know about them, but have really never worked on them...and considering I kinda need my car BADLY, I don't want to risk anything.
Simply put, which would be cheaper and better? should I buy the parts first, bring them to the garage, and pay the garage to fix the problem, or should I just get both parts and labor done at the garage? Would anyone happen to know the approximate cost of labor for a job like this? If I go in with the problem already diagnosed, do I have to pay any extra to the garage?
thanks!

moreResolved Question: JAVA implementing a search?
I'm wanting to do this:
Develop a program for a small auto dealership.
This program will keep track of the auto inventory using an object of the class
ArrayList. The dealer has a limit of 20 cars in inventory at one time due to
space restrictions. Your program must present the user (the dealer) with a menu
(e.g., press 1 for this and press 2 for that etc) allowing to:
• add new automobiles
• remove automobiles
• list automobiles
• search the inventory for cars of a particular model and year (e.g.,
list of 2009 Civics).
And this is all I got:
private static int getOptionFromUser(String... choices)
{
for (int i=0; i < choices.length; i++) System.out.println("" + (i + 1) + ". " + choices[i]);
Scanner s = new Scanner(System.in);
try
{
int opt = s.nextInt();
if (opt <=0 || opt > choices.length)
throw new IllegalArgumentException( "Invalid choice");
return opt;
}
catch(Exception ex)
{
System.out.println("Please enter a valid choice.");
return getOptionFromUser();
}
}
int opt = getOptionFromUser("Add", "Remove", "Search", "List");
if (opt == 1) add_automobile();
else if (opt == 2) remove_automobile();
else if (opt == 3) search();
else list();
I now built a simple search:
public class BasicMatch {
public static void main(String[] args) {
// Compile a regular expression
String patternStr = "b";
Pattern pattern = Pattern.compile(patternStr);
// Check for the existence of the pattern
CharSequence inputStr = "a b c b";
Matcher matcher = pattern.matcher(inputStr);
boolean matchFound = matcher.find();
// Retrieve matching string
String match = matcher.group();
// Retrieve indices of matching string
int start = matcher.start();
int end = matcher.end();
// the end is index of the last matching character + 1
// Find the next occurrence
matchFound = matcher.find();
}
}
But I can't use this one cause it just searches for single letters. I still tried to implement it by getting rid of the input and link it. But that didn't work. Maybe a different search would be better, but that's the best way i can do it right now.
moreResolved Question: JAVA help with program (inventory)?
Hello, I've never done anything in JAVA but this time I have to do it in JAVA and not C++ ( long story). It's about the following:
You need to develop a program for a small auto dealership.
So, here is what I got so far:
class ex{
add_automobile(){ code to add automobile to the list }
remove_automobile{ code to remove automobile from the list }
search(){ code to search an automobile from the list }
public static void main(String args[])
{
DataInputStream in=new DataInputStream(System.in);
int ch=0;
do
{
System.out.print("1.Add\n2.Remove\n3.S… the choice:");
ch=Integer.parseInt(in.readLine());
if(ch==1)
add_automobile();
else if(ch==2)
remove_automobile();
else if(ch==3)
search();
else if(ch==4)
System.out.println("Exiting");
else
System.out.println("invalid choice");
}while(ch!=4);
}
}
I obviously still need to expand it, since it' supposed to be 20 vehicles. But does this take care of the add/remove/list cars? I don't know how to do the search. Any input is appreciated!! Thank you
Still dosen't tell me how to do the search..sorry.

I am confused if I can claim it. It is not new but technically I can be considered as the vehicle's first owner where Hertz is the dealer. moreResolved Question: Is this a good outline for a 8 page microeconomics paper?
Adame I
Research Paper Outline
Thesis Statement:
General Motors is an automobile and truck manufacturing company that was successful for 101 years. Why did it collapse badly in the first decade of the 21st Century? To help us better understand why GM went downhill we first need to learn about the reasons why General Motors failed and its problems. There were many problems in why GM failed, the first problem was financial policies and planning, second was Uncompetitive vehicles, and third was Ignoring competition and failing to innovate. Due to some problems and poor decisions, it is easy to see why General Motors failed. Maybe they never thought this would happen and never took action but foreign cars became important to Americans because they were innovative and dependable and GM vehicles were not.
I. Introduction:
General Motors was founded in September of 1909. January 28th, 2010 almost 101 years later GM ceased to exist. GM has produced some of the most beloved vehicles in the nation. It has become an integral part of the lives of thousands of families around the globe. And now Bankrupt, Straddled with debt, fighting with unions. How did General Motors go from a company that embodied American success to one of the largest corporate failures in American history? The research I did well tell us why GM crashed. GM had many problems which made the company fail. The first problem was bad financial policies. The second problem was that GM had uncompetitive vehicles. And the Third problem was that GM has been ignoring competition
Adame II
and failing to innovate. Also Thanks to $19.4 billion in loans and $30.1 billion more in debtor-in-possession financing, a huge amount of effort by the U.S. government and GM's management, unions, dealers, suppliers and bondholders, the effects of that failure will be terrible, but not catastrophic. The U.S. will own 60 percent of the new GM, which will include Chevy, Buick, GMC and Cadillac. GM’s failure was a combination of mismanagement and poor car design in the 70s and 80s. In my opinion GM went from an American icon to producing crappy and unreliable cars in the late 70s and 80s.
I. Supporting Issue #1:
The first problem was bad financial policies. You might be surprised to learn that GM has been bankrupt since 2006 and has avoided a filing for years thanks to the graces of the banks and bondholders. But for years it has used cars to sell consumers a monthly package of highly profitable car loans.
II. Supporting Issue #2:
The second problem was uncompetitive vehicles. Compared to its toughest competitors like Toyota GM's cars were poorly designed and built, took too long to manufacture at costs that were too high, and as a result, fewer people bought them, leaving GM with excess production capacity.
III. Supporting Issue #3:
The third problem was ignoring competition and failing to innovate. GM has been ignoring competition for about 50 years. At its peak, in 1954, GM controlled 54 percent of the North American vehicle market. Last year, that figure had tumbled to 19 percent. Toyota and its
Adame III
peers took over that market share. Since GM was focused on profiting from finance, it did not really care that much about building better vehicles. GM's management failed to adapt GM to changes in customer needs, upstart competitors, and new technologies.
V. Conclusion:
In conclusion whether GM fails or not will depend entirely on GM. They have essentially already failed in the sense that they are presently a private corporation operating on the taxpayers' dole. They will need to totally regroup, build more desirable and better quality vehicles that the public will buy, sell off their foolish, unprofitable purchases of the past, start paying attention to competition, Innovate better, stop putting all of their research into pet projects such as the EV1 fiasco and Chevy Volt and perhaps (dare I say) take a few lessons from Ford Motor Company.
moreResolved Question: Should automobile dealers and manufacturers be required to do this?
Nowadays, with so many cars having traction control, all-wheel drive, ABS, etc, people seem to think they can just whip around on roads with reduced traction as if their magic carpet can overcome the laws of physics. Yes, all those gizmos give you better CONTROL, but friction (and lack thereof) is still going to win in a contest against Newton's laws of motion!
"Dear customer. Thank you for purchasing our product. While we have attempted to make your vehicle as safe as possible under a wide variety of conditions, you are still responsible for allowing increased distances and reducing your speed when road conditions are poor." etc. etc.
If that isn't enough, how about a warning light on the dashboard:
Slow down, you stupid piece of sh!t!

moreResolved Question: 2005 Acura MDX repairs?
I have a 2005 Acura MDX with a black paint job. But recently, my car was rear-ended on the right side by a hit and run. Currently, I am weighing my options between filing a hit and run claim with my insurance company (Geico) or looking for a new/reconditioned/refurbished/used bumper to replace mine.
The degree of the damage is a scrape and cracking of the bumper. This is only on the right end of the bumper, directly above the right exhaust pipe. To put it in a more visual sense, pretend my bumper is made of plastic and you tried to cut through it with a modeling knife. Such an incision would look close to how mine is damaged, but with many, many cracks and breaks.
I am hesitant on calling Geico because they may up my premium rate simply because of this incident. It wasn't my fault and I am dead certain that it is the result of a hit and run as my car had gone through a car wash on the same day. I think I would know if my car had any pre-existing damages before and after the wash. (picky about soap spots and the hand dryers not getting every end of the car dried up).
Based on my research, it would seem that to replace the rear bumper entirely, brand new, it would cost around $400.00-450.00 out of my pocket. Then there would be the paint job to be concerned with in which many dealers stake the claim that automobile paint is very expensive. I could only imagine tacking on another $200 there. A resulting potential total of $600-650 straight from my pocket.
There are also reconditioned parts which go around $105-150. I have no idea on the compatibility of these or the quality either.
I can't track down who it was that damaged my car, all I have is the where and the when. What should I do in terms of costs and repairs? Do any of you have experience with hit and run comprehensive coverage with Geico? Have any of you gone through what I experienced and paid out of your pocket for a similar type vehicle? (Vehicle type being a SUV or luxury SUV.)
This is the first time this has happened to me and I have no idea what my best option(s) are.

From Sears Automobile:
"Transmission Fluid Exchange is a service that replaces a vehicles existing transmission fluid by means of extracting the fluid through the dipstick fill tube. Performing the service through the dipstick eliminates the need to remove the vehicles drain pan.
This service enables the technician to exchange a greater amount of transmission fluid vs. conventional drain pad removal.
For most vehicle applications removal of the drain pan only provides replacement of fluid within the drain pan cavity"

Hi all,
I just bought a 1996 Chevy Monte Carlo from a used Dealership. It has 80,000 Miles on it and I asked the dealer what's wrong with it, he replied "nothing." It didn't come with the owner's manual, so I do not know at this point what needs to be replaced or any routine maintenance needed on that thing. Any help full tips from guys out there who are automobile enthusiasts would be greatly appreciated. I have a reliable mechanic, I just don't want him to sell me something that I don't need. How do I really know that he is not taking advantage of me? Like for example "oh you need to change the spark plug wires." How do I know that they are still good and not need replacing? You know what I mean? Thank you in advance and Have a Happy Turkey Day to all.

I plan to move up to anchorage,AK soon and working as car salesman. I've been doing this job for over 2 years here in california. We have too many toyota dealership near by. Customer offer unrealistic number, especially chinese,Vietnamese, and Big Time INDIANS....phew.....
Anyway, I used to live at anchorage and I researched that there are only one dealer per brand in anchorage which means, easier to sell on MSRP, may be mark up on top of MSRP.
I want to know what brand of car sells most in anchorage alaska.
Am I right that it is much easier to sell on MSRP in Anchorage due to only one dealership per brand?
moreResolved Question: is Pep Boys a good (honest) place to take your car for maintenance?
besides getting a routine oil change, I'm really needing to get the brakes of my car looked at. I would just go to my dealer, but they're in Nashville and my car is with me in L.A. so that's not an option. there are a lot of Pep Boys locations nearby and that would be the most convenient place for me to go, but are they good to deal with? it seems like any and every business is out to screw people out of their money and do unnecessary work to their cars... and I would be an easy target because I am pretty dim on the inner workings of automobiles. what should I do? in short, the problem with my brakes is not that they're working poorly, they're just getting very noisy. I really need to have them looked at.

I live in Texas now and my aunt is the owner of record for both automobiles, and lives in Ohio. I pay for the cars, insurance, etc. and have her as a rider on the insurance.
I just recently moved from New Mexico where the car's were purchased and after long discussions with the Dealer was assured I would be on the Registration along with my Aunt, but somehow this didn't happen.
So now my quandary is how to get the registration and tag's to Texas. Does Texas have some form of a power of attny that could be used in this case?
Or should I just register the cars in Ohio but live in Texas and would that cause any problems?
It should be noted that both cars were reg in N.M. and the insurance I carry is TX insurance.
The problem is the Dealer lied, my aunt and I were to be co-owners, do to my credit, and both were to be listed on the Title. This didn't happen and they listed my Aunt as living at my address in N.M. which is how they were reg there.

moreResolved Question: How do I get money back from an automobile seller for an extended warranty I don't want?
About a week ago I purchased a new Vespa from a local dealership and I used their financing company. Later when I was looking at my contract I noticed things included that the dealer never discussed with me. The seller when asked about the warranty told me that Vespa gave a year warranty but because I was using their financing company I had an extra 3 years and he didn't mention that I would be charged $400 for the warranty. I also noticed a $99 accessory charge when I didn't purchase any accessories an when I inquired about the charge I was told that it was a dealer prep charge but as far as I know if that was the case then on the contract it should have been listed as as a dealer prep charge if that was the case. When I contacted the seller in order to get a refund for the extended warranty I was told that because I went through their financing company I had to have the 3 year warranty. I checked and it's actually illegal to tell a buyer that. But i still don't know the best way to get my money back. Please help.
