India Travel Route Questions and Answers
Open Question: 'Get Direction' - On Google maps - Monitored by human?
Am Bhoopalan Thaati from Chennai, India. I search routes on Google maps 'Get direction' app before going to some unknown locations. What amazes me is, This 'Get direction' app, knows everything in nook & corner of Chennai. I myself don't know every place. This 'Get direction' feature knows about all 'round abouts', one ways, dead ends and everything that is important for a person who is traveling on his own vehicle. I never expected a computer generated direction would be so accurate. That's why I am confused, if these routes are routes that human set themselves or really automatically generated routes? moreResolved Question: Is there anyone who can help me chalk out my South East Asia travel route?

Hi all. I am 21 years old and married. I'm currently in my third semester of community college and I'm still not sure what I want to do. This semester I thought i wanted to be a teacher, but after entering the Introduction to Education class, and listening to a board meeting, I don't think I can do it. It's just too depressing for me. So, I need to find another route, I suppose. I'm really interesting in world cultures- particularly India, and love to travel there and any other country, really. . I'd like to learn ASL and I have a little bit of background in French that I suppose I could build on. I'm also very interesting in World Religions, but I have no desire to become a Rabbi, Pastor, or Imam. I also like to write essays, and I'm fairly good at it. I'm interested in video games and art, but I don't think I could really make a career in either. I also like Psychology and am interested in youth therapy, like at schools, but I'm not sure how much training I'd need and how long it would take. So, no idea where to go with this. I want something easy to get, or won't take up a ton of time because when I hit my 30's I plan on being a stay at home mom, and homeschooling my children. So, I don't want to spend a ton of time in school for a career I will only be in up until my 30's and than won't revisit until at least my 50's. Any suggestions based on what I told you about myself, or at least a website that can help me assess my interests and find out which career would be right for me? Thanks so much! moreVoting Question: Is racism more prevalent in some Canadian provinces than other?
A few days ago my mother and I were traveling in a city bus in a small city in Alberta, Canada. We were just there to visit some relatives. We are East Indians which by the way is an incorrect term but highly accepted for Indians from India in North America. This white lady was asking for directions from the bus driver and she was practically yelling at him. He seemed to be an immigrant as he had an accent and then out of nowhere, she asked him if he knows english as she was constantly talking and she looked pretty pissed as according to her she had been getting wrong directions. Anyway, my mom told me that we should help her because we were going to the same street. My mother has an accent but you can understand her pretty well. She started talking to that lady and explaining her the route and then a stop came and some white kids got off from the bus and the last kid told the lady that "just say no taxi" and got off so fast that I couldn't even process what just happened. Anyway, that lady was a bitch because we told her the directions and then she was like "I told you the address 2 times and I am not gonna repeat it because I have already done that 10 times to other people and I want to go to the house number blah." I think that she was mentally unwell because she seemed very impatient while talking and she wouldn't let us speak and she was flossing her teeth in the bus! I have also seen a new report couple of years ago on TV which showed night club owners not letting blacks and East Indians patrons enter the clubs. This was also in a city in Alberta. I know that I can't judge a whole population by 1 or 2 incidents but I would like to know if other provinces are more welcoming? moreResolved Question: How to travel from Jamshedpur to Darjeeling?

I am starting to get nervous about paying off my student loans after I graduate. I am a sophomore now and I deeply desire to travel to India and have a chance to get in touch with my spiritual side and understand myself before I immediately start job searching in order to pay off my student loans. I would also love to join the Peace Corps but I feel as though I need to be at peace with myself before I volunteer to help others. I know that you can delay paying student loans by doing this but I'm not sure if it is the right route for me. I'm just afraid money is going to 100% contradict my willingness to travel and see the world (but yet again, im an international studies + anthropology major so no matter what my job will entail travel). any suggestions? i know this is vague but i'm just a tad bit confused. I think there should be at least one direct flight from either San Francisco, LA or Seattle. Right now you have to travel all the way to New York, Chicago or Newark. That's a needless amount of travel time. Then of course, there's a long trans-Atlantic journey with hours of layover in London, Frankfurt, Amsterdam or Brussels. By the time you reach India and return the same path, you spent almost 70 hours flying or at the airports. That's like three days of physical and mental exhaustion. It would be far easier and more economical to fly the Pacific route. There should be more airlines to operate a route here. moreResolved Question: how could we improve rural education system?
our urban education system is not nearly as bad as our rural education system there is a village called tavarekere 6 km from bangalore.. the children from there have to travel 2 hours on a bus one way everyday(the only bus in that route) to go to school..they go because they get food there i met up with a student from there..a 9th standard student...she didnt know which was bigger india or delhi..she couldnt spell cat to save her life i asked her what her teachers taught her and she said that the headmaster diddnt come to take his classes very often and the other teachers were no good either..most of them were from outside the village and so didnt travel everyday ..they just signed the register for the whole week when they came once a week the teachers who were from the same village also went to the school for the food...they hogged the good rice and the vegetables in the curry ,distributed whatever was left(and a meagre quantity at that ) to the children...and after they were done with lunch...they sat and gossipped while the children were forced to clean the plates which the teachers used..these children were going to school..travelling 4 hours a day..to go and clean plates there the children had little in the way of text books, the food they got was adulterated first b the govt then by the teachers, they recieved no cycle or conveyance, they hadnt even heard of ksheera yojana.. now this may be a single case.it may be an exception...god knows all schools arent like that many urban schools and some rural ones too are doing quite well actually. but what can the govt do in such a case? its impractical to give the power to local farmers who dont know how to write even kannada and are even more prone to corruption ...i know that the govt could crackdown on the corruption...but that would be no guarantee..the govt which came in another 5 years could just as easily turn a blind eye..i am not looking for quick fixes like that..what is the permanent solution? and please do refrain from politicising this...i know all schools arent like that and i also know all schools arent too good either..i know congressmen will blame bjp and bjp men will blame congress..it would be shortsighted of us to defend our parties..congress men will say its the bjp govt at the state and bjp men will say that congress ruled country for 50 years..i know all that..i dont want any of that...it would be an insult to the children lets sit down and discuss this as citizens of this country rather than as supporters of a party. what scheme or what model do you think we should follow in correcting this? in urban areas there are always people who raise voices..if only for the local news coverage...what about rural areas? truth..you are intent on politicising this so i'll have you know this comes in shobha karandlaage's constituency,infact..we went so high as to even go to yeddys house begging for a good school..we were turned back at the door...and your telling me that we should write him an email?...god bless your innocent soul anyway..even if yeddy does do something..who is to say that coming govts wont turn a blind eye...i'm ot looking for quick fix solutions like this..i want a real long term solution mm..yeah i get what you are saying...we should kick out inefficient teachers and corrupt ones too..but how do you know who is corrupt..how do you continuously monitor the system to make sure one corrupt person isnt replaced by another EVER?.. besides you cant judge that all people who have got in on reservation are inefficient..thats just the kind of discrimination we have to fight against packed meals is a good idea..but i dont know how practical it is privatisation would mean they'd jack up the school fees so no poor kids would be able to attend anyway..private companies be they tata or birla do things for profits.. ngo's should get involved no doubt..but what happens when ngo''s become hand in glove with the corrupt people..we know many ngo's who indulge in corruption.. these seem like quick fix solution which may work for the time being but will give into to corruption in the long term... @truth..i wish i was lying..but i am not..these people arent rich folks..they are poor farmers and brick factory workers...we have not left a single man in the system ignorant about this..we even went to his house...nothing..u may not choose to believe it..i cant help that..i have pointed out why this is not an ideal solution cause the next govt may just as well turn a blind eye.. but i will say thank you to you for not reporting this question @truth..just visit the govt school in sulikere post...talk to the children will you...here..i'll give you a google map to the placehttp://maps.google.co.in/maps?hl=en&tab=wl this is kengeri..you will find a famous hotel called shastris cafe in this place..follow that road..ask anyone there how to get to tavarekere..you can catch a bus even..the bus driver will tell you when to get off..buy a ticket for sulikere post...anyone there will tell you where the school is..its the only one for four to five villages....i would estimate its about 6kms from kengeri satellite town...ask the students there how their school is..ou seem to believe in propogated myths so much..i find it irrisestible to break them...yes govt will lie to our faces about the development in our schools...if they dont people dont vote for them..get out of your ac cafe and thentell me what the situation really is @ truth..then you will realise that the glossy fine numbers that you get in govt reports are the biggest lie ever told... you have no idea how much it hurts to hear of "nutritious food in govt schools" when you have seen the starvation these children have to go through.. yes the inspector comes once in 6 months..he aint no angel..give him a 100 rs note and he'll give you a glowing report..you say you learnt in a govt aided school...where is it?..is it in urban area or in rural one?..govt aided schools are generally in a better shape than govt owned schools...do not lie about this truth if you are an indian..you can lie about rg..lie about congress..lie even about modi...but for the sake of the children find a little shame and keep from spreading these lies...we will all benefit if this school progresses...what you dont want about that is mystefying to me...this isnt a damn bjp vs congress fight so dont make it one will you...this is about those children..the heart cries out. @ all..i was thinking of extending this question for a long time..i definetely could do with more suggestions...but it seems some of my fellow yahooians do not have the ability to see this objectively..i am dissapointed in us..i shall end this question tomorrow..thank you for you suggestions..which though having faults..tells me atleast some one cares enough for this isckon you say..iskon food never reaches these kids..they have food from other schemes..isckon food goes to homes more wealthy than these people..if shri krishna were alive he would frown upon isckon...i am ashamed by your shallow behaviour..using manifestos of parties you seek to blind people..when they deserve better...i am ashamed because when i say indian..people think of the likes of you...i have lived with this problem for the last year or two.slept with it ,ate with it,wrestled with it..there hasnt been a moment when this hasn been on my mind and i am not having any goddamn propogandist lie to me in my face about it.i have never blocked anyone in my time here.all i can do is to sincerely ask you not to answer my questions anymore.i do not need your kind of propoganda.and that is what is sheer propoganda.nothing else.you dont become an angel by just naming yourself truth.apparently you lack the maturity of discussing this problem objectively.but i hope in the end satyameva jayate truth-i sincerely request you to go to that school and see it.i have lived with this problem for years.i probably know more than you.being a brahmin i havent had reservations either.but i see why my fellow indians need them and am not going to give into petty jelousy over it you say so much about isckon..do go to this school..i have nothing to gain by defaming isckon..when their work is monitored..its quite good..but who will moniter their work here?..before you make ignorant and defamatory statements about me or my country..pray do open your eyes..for once stop being a propogndistthat you are..when i opened this question i sincerely believed that people wouldnt play politics over it..guess not..i tell you i have stood in front of yeddy's house for ays on end begging...but you wont believe me cause it will hurt your propoganda agenda.if schools in karnataka are bad its false but if schools in any cong state is bad its the gospel truth?i hope someday nationalism will dawn on ppl like moreResolved Question: I received an offer letter see below, i think it is I want to take the best route to avoid the hottest and wetest weather. I have a few months to travel. I want to go to India, parts of Southeast Asia, and Australia and New Zealand. Do you have any advice on where I should start, and what route would be the best? moreResolved Question: Should I follow my heart or stay on the safe route?
I have to make a decision that will cause a huge change in life. Ok, so I have a choice to continue going to school next semester or go travel to india and study in an ashram and travel around. I don't really want to go back to school, I started going to college when I was 16 years old. I'm 18 now and I want to take a break. I don't feel satisfied with what I'm doing, I don't feel like I'm truly living! If I leave, I fear I'll never go back to school and I don't want to disappoint my family. They have done so much for me... I do want to go to India, I have about $2,000 saved up and hopefully my dad will help me out a little. I want to start my spiritual journey and I woke up one morning knowing that I had to go to India, and that fierce pull in me has yet to subside... Do you think I'm being irresponsible by going to India and leaving school? I think I will go back to college when I'm done traveling... hopefully you can give me some insight, thank you. moreResolved Question: What is happening to Lalu Yadav's ambitious plan of High Speed Railways in India?
In-spite of all the tarnishing image of Mr. Lalu Prasad Yadav, no one would probably deny that when he took over railways, the railways was a big mess and government was talking about privatizing the railways. Today railway is showing surplus. How much is may be questionable but it is showing surplus and that is not questionable. Mr. Yadav did start many new trains, many new lines, he did convert many MG to BG and lot of other good things, he had a very ambitious plans of bringing high speed railways to India that is also called as Bullet train. Let me tell you a little about Bullet train for the ones who do not know about Bullet trains: The fastest train on the Mumbai Pune route is the Deccan Queen that takes 3 hours 15 minutes. The fastest train on the Mumbai Ahmedabad route, the Shatabdi Expresss, takes 6 hours 45 minutes. If bullet train is operational, you could take your trip from Mumbai to Pune in just 20 mins and your travel time from Ahmedabad to Mumbai would be just 120 mins. Currently in India the fastest trains are Shatabdi express that runs at the speed of 140 KMPH and the bullet trains would run at the speed between 200-350 KMPH. For this Japan government had pledged to support India in Indian Prime Minister's visit to Japan in 2006 and Mr. Prasad visited Japan to get an overview of this project with a team of Railway officials in January 2009. Now the cost of such project is not so cheap. These trains cannot run on the existing tracks. We will have to build new rail tracks. it would take Rs 74,400 crore to build a rail line between Pune and Mumbai. That number is bigger than the Railways' entire earning for 2008-09. And to build the line between Mumbai and Ahmedabad it would cost Rs 3,55,300 Crore. This is very ambitious and very good project. This is already started and China. They are building thus rail track between Beijing to Shanghai with the help of Seimens. I have not seen any news about this project since the current Loksabha was elected and new government was formed. Does any one know what happened to this project? And how many such good projects are buried because minister got replaced? @Mr. Brown950, your country is in recession, we can help you by giving you job of fixing this problem for low speed cows. Open job offer for your 10% unemployed, let us know when you want to join. Rahul b: I have read both the articles in support and the problems in starting the bullet trains in India. Nothing is impossible. and Lalu Yadav did have a plan and early this year he started a feasibility study. His plan was to start first train between Mumbai and Pune. And the the word impossible itself says I-M-POSSIBLE. http://www.zeenews.com/nation/2009-02-17/508390news.html http://www.rediff.com/money/2009/jan/19lalu-plans-bullet-trains-in-india.htm Rang de basanti, I guess you realize that some foreigner is making fun of India? And good to see you on YA again. Welcome back. @Maitree, you are welcome. But Lalu Yadav did not take plans from Nitish Kumar, else Railway depart was in private hands today. fortunately Yadav had a very good team of management graduates who helped him to have good name at least in railways. @Rahul, for you I will say only one thing B+. @Mildpace, if that is true, then I am more than happy: $10 laptops unveiled by Union HRD Minister on Feb 3rd 09 http://www.rediff.com/cms/print.jsp?docpath=//money/2009/feb/03india-unveils-10-dollar-laptop.htm Education for all: since 2001 under Sarva Shiksha abhiyan, every year millions of children are getting literate. http://ssa.nic.in/ Child Labor: There are laws in place and it is state government's responsibility to implement that. Atheist and mainly Odampully, can you answer if Rama avatar was Fact or Fiction? There is little archaeological or epigraphic evidence for either Jesus Christ or Prophet Mohammed, who are known only from the Bible and Koran respectively. Does it mean they did not exist? If Rama performs miracles such as liberating Ahalya, the Biblical story of Jesus walking on water or the Koranic tale of Mohammed flying to heaven on a horse are equally miraculous. The Ramayana is geographically very correct. Every site on Rama's route is still identifiable and has continuing traditions or temples to Rama's visit. Around 1000 BC or earlier, no writer had the means to travel around the country inventing a story, fitting it into local folklore and building temples for greater credibility. Do you think Valmiki was so rich that he traveled along, the way from North india to South india, for just writing a story? Rama had undertaken two *padayatras* or long walks in his lifetime. The first one was when he along with his brother, Lakshmana, accompanied his Master, Rishi Vishwamitra, into the forest to protect the sacrificial rites conducted by Rishis in the hermitages, from the onslaught of Rakshasas. The second and longest march that Rama undertook was during the Vanavasa to keep up the promise that Dasaratha. Why doubt that Rama traveled through Dandakaranya or Kishkinda, where local non-Vedic tribes still narrate tales of Rama? @ Sirensong, Greek literature was adopted from Indian literature!
