Open Question: I was just dumped severely by my boyfriend who just returned from Paris, I last saw him in 8th grade?

So there was this guy who was my boyfriend is 6, 7 , and 8th grade and then he had to move to Paris so he said we would always be together and in a long distance relationship. SO right now I'm actually very overweight (5'5 200 pounds) and I just recently asked a question about how to control my weight and was given great advice. Thank you. But when I was younger and actually saw this guy I was really thin and actually quite attractive. But he came down and I had never told him about my weight problem because he was basically the only person that I could talk to. Everyone makes fun of me for my weight so he was my only friend. So I went to pick him up from the airport and he looked around behind me and everything and I kept shouting his name and jumping which i shouldn't do because my whole body jiggles...I hate my weight...and he came up to me and I told him that I was Lia and he was like what?! And he said "You look....a lot different and to tell you the truth gross!" I couldn't believe it...I drove him home and the whole time he pointed out what was wrong with me. My face filled with acne I can't control, my rolls, my huge legs, my kankles, my triple chin. It was so mean, I started crying. He was supposed to stay at my house but he instead went to a hotel. And before he left the car he told me "Just in case you haven't realized, we're over. I can't believe how obese you are. Get a hang of yourself Lia, you look...awful." So now all of the advice I was about to begin about my weight is over...I ate about 4 bowls of double chocolate ice cream, 3 king size snickers bars, a cupcake, and a whole pack of oreos. So now my weight of 200 pounds has gone to 213 in just 1 day. I can't believe him...and I can't control my cravings when I'm this upset. I need help.  more

Open Question: Is it true that everyone hates Americans?

I am planning a trip to Paris during December, and so I have been asking around to see what kind of places I should visit or hotels I should stay at. I just asked a co-worker if she had been to Europe, and she said, "No... I figure, everyone in the world hates us, so I might as well just visit parts of MY country that I haven't seen yet." That got me thinking... I know everyone says that the rest of the world hates Americans... but is that really true? Or do they just hate our government? I hope I don't go visit a country that hates me just because I'm from America..  more

Open Question: IMPORTANT question regarding Paris, France?

I am going to vacation in Paris for a week with my mother in mid August. We land at the Charles de Gaulle Airport, and our hotel is Hôtel Léman-Opéra. Can anyone help us with a method of getting from the Airport to our hotel? I'm afraid a taxi is too costly, so is there public transit we could take? Thank you!  more

Open Question: Paris or Amsterdam for a trip?

Hello, I can choose between a 2 day trip in Europe, to Amsterdam or Paris. Which one should I choose? The Paris tour may be a bit more expensive (due to the hotel price), while Amsterdam (or so I've heard) may be a little bit easier to navigate and explore. What do you think, and which one would you choose? Any pros and cons?  more

Open Question: travelling to france.. someone who knows the place INSIDE OUT!!!!?

Ok, I would like you to put as much of your knowledge of this country as you can. Would really help me and my girlfriend. :) We basically want to travel to THREE different parts of France. We obviously want to stick around in Paris for a bit. Then we want to head off somewhere in the South, hot and with the beaches. Then we want to go somewhere up in the North, preferably with the mountains. So, I would like RECOMMENDATIONS of cities. And if you know, how much does it cost ONE person to stay in France for 10 days? Not including travel to france, but hotels, foods, getting around the places. A general idea? Thank you so much.  more

Open Question: I need travel advise for Euro-trip!?

Hi all! I am leaving for Europe a week from today. I am going for about three weeks with my fiance, and neither of us have been before. We have all hotels and flights booked through a travel agency. I am wondering if any of you have any tips about places to see or things to do in the areas we are going, as well as any places to avoid or things to watch out for... If any of you have used one of out airlines or hotels, thoughts on that would be great too! We are flying Delta from Atlanta GA (with lay over in Amsterdam) to EDINBURGH, which will be our first place to visit and staying in the NORTON HOUSE hotel. Then we fly British Airways to AMSTERDAM, or second spot to visit, where we will stay at the ARENA AMSTERDAM hotel. We then take the Thylis to PARIS where we stay in SAINT LOUIS BASTILLE. From there we fly Iberia Airlines to BARCELONA where we stay at the BARCELONA PRINCESS. We then fly Iberia again to ROME were we stay in the DELLE MUSE hotel. And lastly, we fly Olympic airlines from Rome to SANTORINI ISLAND, Greece where we stay in the Veggera Hotel. Then we fly Aegean Airlines from Santorini Island to Athens were we have a TEN HOUR overlay from 9:30pm- 6:30am (would it be worth getting a cab and seeing sites at night, or should be just get a hotel?) Then we fly KLM Royal Dutch to Amsterdam and then KLM again home to Atlanta. Again, any tips or tricks or things to do or see or not to do, etc would be greatly appreciated!  more

Voting Question: Anyone got any advice for traveling to Paris in August 2010?

Hi guys, I'm off to Paris next week, the hotel and eurostar are sorted and I wondered if anyone has any advice they can offer on the following: Getting around the city Saving money or discounts Dress codes in restaurants (shoes, casual shoes or trainers for men?) Resturants that are nice and not overly expensive Places to visit + places to avoid Any hidden art galleries, shops or music cafe's that are good? Any art/music related places we might miss Any good books or travel guides on Paris Thanks everyone!!! Hi, thanks for the information, if anyone else would like to add anything please do. We're staying in the 17th district in a luxury boutique hotel which I'm sure will be nice but am concerned about the area as its not central. Is it nice? I've heard there are two famous restaurants there and the Arc De'Triomphe is very close by. Oh sorry, I meant is 17th district safe??? I read on that link some of the districts should be avoided, especially at night! :-(  more

Voting Question: inception movie doubts?

1. why do projections try to kill the main characters? like in saito's dream there is a violence in the town (movie starting), then during each and every level of dreams more and more people are trying to kill the main characters . why? 2. why were they being chased in mabasa? and who were those guys who were chasing cobb? 3. why were they in zero gravity in hotel level ? and why were they not in slow motion (zero gravity ) in the snow level? 4. when saito gets injured in the car does he die immediately? 5. why does saito gets injured in every level of dream? 6. why is mal (cob's wife) asking him to stay with her in the dream? 7. why does he steal mal's totem? 8. why is the professor in america with the kids and not in paris? 9. why doesn't he have his own totem ? plz don't tell me to watch the movie again because i watched it twice and got more confused... also first time when i watched i felt that it was his dream...period! second time when i watched i came up with 2 theories: Theory a): maybe it was not his dream in the end (going by the way the totem spinned in the end) but lot of doubts like why kids were still like how he imagined them ? and his memory of them continues like they turn back and run towards him... Theory b): he is stuck in his dream and cobb thinks his dream is real.. infact the entire movie was cobs dream. and he feels that if he takes a leap he might really die like his wife. and therefore he believes that mal is dead and is guilty as he feels he tried to distort her reality. (in reality she is not dead). Because of his guilt( about him being responsible for mal's death), he plans the entire dream levels to take her out of his head and create situations and encounters to make her realize or prove her a point that he is not guilty. guilt was the only thing that was stopping him from being with his children. mal who is still alive in real tries to get him out of his make belive world but he thinks she is dead and she is just his memory. also the totem was the idea that mal planted in his mind so it grew strong and therefore he is always crosschecking by spinning to see if its real or a dream! infact he had all control on the way the totem spinned..... and he dint know about that- that is the idea! Cob never had a totem until he gets his wifes totem (spinning top).. wife hides her spinning top in the locker remember? remember when the architect girl makes her totem (chess pawn), and she doesn't hand it over to cobb. also arthur doesn't share his totem (red dice) when the architect girl asks him to show. he says no except the owner should know the weight of the totem... remember?  more

Voting Question: Belgrade to Paris - easiest (and cheapest) way?

Hi, i next 1-2 years i would like to visit Paris with my BF. My dream is to always travel with car wherever we can, but going to Paris with car from Belgrade would be veryyy expensive and long. We are not in position to be away more then 10-12 days because of our work and company. I am trying to not to go with plane (that is why i never left Serbia, my phobia is too big) but i am willing to sacrifice that as that is only one way to go to most places i dream of (East Asia, Islands in South Pacific). So, i guess i must fly sometimes... Did anyone of u went from BGD to Paris? Cheapest plane tickets i found are about $600 (for 2 people, round trip). I would really like to go there with a train (so i can look at scenery etc.)- does someone know average price for train trip for 2 people(return)? I already found some pretty cheap and nice hotels. I am 100% outdoor person, i dont care if something is luxury, kinda opposite.  more

Resolved Question: Stuck in a hotel in Chantilly, what should I do?

I am from a lower part of Brittany myself, but moved to Paris, where I joined the army, and now I am a part of an elite corps. I became friendly with two of my fellow-soldiers, and after a while with yet another young man, from Tarbes. One of our friends was wounded in eh... action, and received leave of absence to go to Forges, to take waters. We received absence of leaves, too, and decided to go, all four of us, to Calais instead, for some sea air and swimming. We left early, and stopped in Chantilly for some breakfast, in an auberge Great Saint Martin. There was a quarrelsome man there he picked up a fight with me, and my friends, who were in a hurry, left without me, asking me to catch them up on the road. Unfortunately, during this fight, I strained my knee and had to stay in bed. I was cruelly bored, played lansquenet with a random traveller, and lost everything. Now I can't pay hotel's bill, and the doctor's bill. I know no one here, though I do have a ... sort of a cousin, in Paris, she is very well off, Mme Coquenard, from Rue aux Ours. I wrote to her twice, asking for a little loan, just to settle my debts here, but she never replied. The owner of the auberge refuses to serve me anymore food, my friends are travelling and I can't reach them, my parents can't help me any. Yet I have to pay this bill somehow, what should I do?  more

Resolved Question: I need to find a hotel in paris for a group for next year!!!!?

We have a group of 12 people. We would like to find find a hotel that is 3/4 stars around 200 dollars a night and fits 4 to a room. Its a end of highschool trip and we are willing to share beds. We want to schedule for July of 2011. Most of the hotels in paris don't specify whether having four to a room is allowed and we need some clarification. Also how old do you need to book a hotel room? Most of us will be 18 but we might need to bring a chaperone if the age to rent a hotel room is 21. Can anyone find us accomodations?  more

Resolved Question: Best pools in Las Vegas?

Hi. I'm planning a trip to Las vegas with my girlfriend in September and wanted to ask people's opinions on the best pools in Vegas, as this might determine where we end up staying (having been before, my opnion is that a lot of the 4 or 5 star hotels are very similar anyway). My choices are Bellagio, Caesars, MGM or Paris. I heard that the Caesars Pool is huge but it is open to the public and you'll never get a lounge chair after 9am(!), which really puts me off. When I stayed in the Venetian last year I always got a lounge chair. And I've heard the Paris pool can be freezing and dirty. Thanks guys! I think the Caesars pool being open to the public is a relatively new thing (like June 2010). But even before this I was told that the pool is just too busy because any guest staying in a Harrah's resort can use the Caesars pool. Not being snobby but if I pay a premium to stay in Caesars I don't think they should let outsiders use the pool!  more

Resolved Question: Visiting Paris, Need suggestions! Help!?

I am planning a trip to Paris in mid-December (hoping to get to see all the Christmas and New Year lights around the city!) I would LOVE some suggestions on a cozy (and affordable) hotel to stay. I am hoping for a hotel thats near the center of the city, so that it won't be too difficult to walk to our destinations (even though it will be really cold and maybe rainy...). I would also love suggestions on sights to see (other than the obvious ;-) Extra info: I'm 22, female, don't speak french, and have only been out of the US once (Mexico). So I'm a little nervous about this vacation. I've wanted to visit Paris since I was 12, so I hope the trip works out well!  more

Resolved Question: Can I take a stove to a Paris hotel?

I heve recently started a family tradition of spending Christmas in Paris, in a 2 star city centre hotel. I am sticking to a strict budget, and one of the best ways to do so is to limit meals out. Voting Question: How do I convince my parents to let me buy a net book?

We are going on holiday to Paris in August, and I recently got a new camera for my birthday. Obviously I will be taking loads of photos, and I will want to upload them straight away to my blog on tumblr. However, I need a laptop or net book to do this in order to connect my camera to a USB port which my ipod doesn't have. It's not just the holiday, I have wanted a laptop since Christmas and I will use it loads, for school, for trips, for work, etc. I have my eye on this net book, http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/advent-milano-refurbished-netbook-03885411-pdt.html I will of course pay for it myself, but my mum won't let me have access to my bank account because she doesn't want me to have a laptop. My dad is slightly more open to the idea, and he helped me find that net book, however he also says that we're not ordering anything until mum and him have talked about it. But when my parents say they will talk about something, it means they will completely ignore it and act like they forgot about it. I have to harass them to do everything, for instance, I have been asking my mum for 4 days to come and look at the hotels I found that might be nice to stay in when we are in Paris. So how do I convince my parents to let me buy this, or another net book. I need to use the hard sell technique I think, but my dad has said that they won't be buying anything if I constantly pester them about it. Thanks for your help. Rachael. XxX I think their objection is really the price, and they don't want me to be spoiled. I did get quite an expensive camera for my birthday, that's why I am offering to pay for it. But they don't want me to "waist my money". And although they aren't very much in favour of the idea, I don't think they are completely set against it. With the right persuasion and a year or so of washing dishes they might fold. XxX  more

Resolved Question: Which family member should I take on holiday with me? Son or daughter?

I have just won a weekend holiday for 2 to Paris in a competition run by the company I work for. That is the good news. The bad news is that I don't know who to take with me. The holiday is restricted to one of 2 weekends in August. My wife will be away both weekends visiting her folks in Africa and her flights cannot be amended. She would have to book afresh at a cost of over £1000 (US$1500). We have a son and a daughter. My son is 20 and is not the fun loving type and rarely gets excited over anything (unless it is a TV quiz show). My daughter is 18 and would thoroughly enjoy such a holiday. If I take the son, I may as well carry a novel to go and read! If I take my daughter (who is closer to me and always fun to be around) it might look weird as people may have question marks in their minds about a 40yr-old man with an 18yr-old girl. I haven't told any family member about my win yet. Would it be unfair if I took a male friend? The hotel room offered is just one (twin or double bedded). Another room would cost me 1050 Euros for the 3 nights. Who should I take with me? My son is the type who would rather sit at home and do SUDOKU than go on holiday. I know if I would talk to both of them, he is very likely to say, "It's okay, go with her I'm cool with it". And he would mean exactly that.  more

Alright, so a friend and I are planning a Eurotrip but for the summer of 2012 (to save up money). Only thing is we don't know how much to save up for. We're thinking about making it 2 weeks and we plan to go to London, Paris, Madrid & Rome. We want to throw Amsterdam in there but I feel like that'll be too much :/ Plus what is a good price for a hotel? And what about this train that you can take from one city to another? Any details or information would be helpful. Please and thank you.  more

Resolved Question: Moving to Paris & getting a job (without french)?

Ok, I'm literally prepared to do any job - bar work, hotel cleaning, babysitting, you name it... Has anyone here ever done something similar? I'm a UK citizen & can only speak a barely minimal amount of French. However, I'm pretty confident I'll learn fast; i've already had experience living abroad for a few months alone (Spain) & have an advanced level in Spanish Lang (C1). I'd pretty much be going with no money at all, although I'm lucky in that my dad has an apartment in Paris, so rent and bills wouldn't be a problem. I can live very cheaply otherwise & the fact I wouldn't have to cover utilities makes it the most obvious place to go... It's just the job thing really; I just want to be able to live. Is there any way possible I could get an unskilled English-speaking job to start off with?  more

Resolved Question: The shape of Chevrolet's logo was inspired by a pattern of wallpaper in a Paris hotel room. William Durant ?

The shape of Chevrolet's logo was inspired by a pattern of wallpaper in a Paris hotel room. William Durant reportedly detached a small piece and kept it in his wallet, waiting for the day he'd put it to use. It has, since then, become an advertising icon, and is still the marquee of today's Chevrolet. What is it called? .................... plzzzzz only answer no website options..............  more

Resolved Question: Crowne Plaza Republique?

I'm planning a trip to Paris with my hip and healthy, but technically elderly parents in the fall. I'm considering booking rooms at the following hotel because I can get a really good discount. We have not been to Paris, so I'm not sure if the location is out of the way (i.e. far from any of the "must do" sites and/or metro stops) where its not worth the discount. Any suggestions: Crowne Plaza Hotel PARIS-RÉPUBLIQUE 10 PLACE DE LA REPUBLIQUE PARIS, 75011 FRANCE  more
