Mr. Leite was sentenced to one year of probation yesterday after he pleaded guilty to one count of allowing an unlicensed person (Mrs. Leite) to drive a vehicle registered in his name. As the victim-impact statements were being read, many people in the courtroom sobbed, and Judge D’Angelo shook his head slowly as he looked at Mrs. Leite before pronouncing his sentence. He also strongly urged her to perform public service at a hospital, where she could care for people injured in motor vehicle accidents. “Obviously there is nothing I can do that will bring back Mr. Grossi,” he said. Mr. Moura said Mrs. Leite was seeking “at least legal closure” to the matter and was very remorseful about what had happened. “She will not escape this,” he said. This is not acceptable to us even though the assistant DA’s office keeps trying to tell us that this may be the outcome and we need to be prepared for it. FULLERTON – Yadira Barragan used to think that people who came to this country illegally should simply return home to sort out their situation there. That all changed when the 32-year-old naturalized U.S. citizen, who came legally from Mexico, unknowingly married a man who is in the U.S. illegally. Still, she was in love. She mothered their three young boys. They built a home. That came crashing down when immigration officials Tuesday raided a Fullerton high-tech manufacturer, Terra Universal, and her husband became one of the 43 workers immigration officials detained on suspicion of being in the country illegally. "It's not until you're in their shoes and see their point of view and reality that you understand," Barragan said. Thursday, she and her husband, Carlos, were one of at least two dozen people from Terra Universal who attended a Fullerton church for a meeting held by immigration rights activists and representatives with the Mexican Consulate's Office in Santa Ana. Activists and legal representatives advised them of their rights during a more than 3-hour-long meeting, days after immigration agents served a federal criminal search warrant at Terra Universal, bringing the company to a standstill for at least two hours. The 8:30 a.m. immigration enforcement action began when agents entered the building, provoking shrieks from the front desk receptionists, Yadira said her husband told her. "Immigration," one woman yelled. That's when Barragan called his wife. "You know what? Come get the car. Immigration is here," he told her. The operation ended with ICE officials nabbing 43 people on suspicion of being in the country illegally, said ICE Spokeswoman Lori Haley. Those detained were released a few hours later, pending immigration hearings. It was a day they'd been expecting for quite some time, Yadira Barragan said. "It had always been our fear," she said. "Sooner or later it was going to happen. We just knew." That's why her husband never left for work in the morning without saying a sincere goodbye to each one of his three young boys, she added. Though she's petitioned for her husband to become a legal resident, it's been eight years and still no word from immigration officials, she said. Still, her husband had to provide for the family and just her income won't suffice for the family, she added. That's why, she said, he worked in the U.S. even though he wasn't authorized to do so. Her husband who'd worked for Terra for about four years in shipping never told company officials about his legal status, she added. Still, she holds hope that he'll be able to stay in the country. "We're hoping something can be done," she said. The company's attorney David Ross said company officials will begin the process Friday of evaluating every single one of the 43 employee's situations to determine whether they'll be willing to hold their jobs for a limited amount of time while they sort out their legal situation. They'll take into account whether they can remedy their legal status and obtain a temporary work visa within the next few months while they sort out their situation. In addition, the employee's years of loyalty will be taken into consideration, he added. "We're not going to employ anybody that the law says should not be employed," Ross said. Hello, I am deeply distressed in my current job and quite frankly, have just been for some time. Basically, I work for the civil service and have done so for seven years. In recent months, we have had a new Line Manager who has been having severe problems with our supervisor. She is now off on stress leave. Now I am in temporary charge of the office and we have had problems with our line manager who, I find, as well as my colleague, to be totally unapproachable. We decided because of this we would speak to our next in command and basically, we had a meeting with our line manager today and we were absolutely torn to shreds over various bits and pieces and told we couldn't approach the senior management and make complaints about our current line manager. Were we right to approach our senior management? One of the other scenarios was the fact that a representative of a particular section on camp came to our office and told us that he required his mail. We politely told him that we couldn't serve him as this was for urgent queries only and general inquiries and we considered post not to fall under this category. His attitude changed from that of politeness to rudeness and we made a complaint upon advice from a member of the wing and our line manager investigated this - unfortunately for us we received a visit from our line manager and he informed us that the representative of this section had not been rude and that they were a part of the emergency service. Basically he was saying that we were in the wrong and we had over-reacted which was not the case and our complaint was being twisted. Also, we have been having a lean event going on which is basically how to make the office or a situation better. This is something which should have been sorted when my supervisor went on leave. However it fell to us since our supervisor had not kept their side of the bargain and completed the tasks in question. The tasks fell to us and we were complained against because we had not been forthcoming to the lean team members who came in to help in the event - however, they were being very obnoxious and barking orders to us in the Registry and making rude comments about us. Therefore, they've made the complaint but they've said it in such a way that it only reflects one side of the argument. I sat in the meeting with a colleague and it was addressed that I had not actually gone to any great length to get files reviewed in over 3 years which was not true but with everything going on in the Registry of late, its hard to keep a focus on anything and with our line manager breathing down our neck at now any available opportunity, I feel I can't do right for wrong either as did our supervisor who is now on stress leave. When I was in the meeting, my line manager got VERY aggressive with me and even asked me to allow him to finish what he was saying and felt I was under direct interrogation procedures. I then got up and asked my line manager not to speak to me in such a way. I returned and the Wing Commander was present and even informed my line manager to calm down - what does that say about our own line manager? Furthermore, we have had no reasonable support from our own line manager, he is very unprofessional in the way he speaks to us and quite frankly, I am just so fed up and he even threatened to put me on a 'restoring efficiency' procedure which means that I have a certain amount of months to improve otherwise sacking could be an option. Nevertheless, I have done hardly anything wrong (nobody's perfect) and so much has gone against me from day one and I get very little support from those around me in the camp anyway, I'm just seriously deciding to cut my losses. I am one month into a one year lease, it has no sale clause of any kind. My landlord informed me a couple weeks ago she sold the house and wants me out. This was changed in the night on Friday, and she is never available during the weekend, and I needed to secure my property in the dwelling. She sent me an email with a letter saying that lease is terminated immediately, and she will be changing the locks and removing my belongings. !!! I told her its a violation to enter without notice and she cannot throw me out without an eviction from a judge. and I would report her misconduct to all the appropriate authorities. Guess what, yes you guessed right! today she changed locks and removed my belongings and claims that she completed a moveout inspection and she will be sending me a check minus damages! I enjoy the hobby of working on older pc's that can be recycled, reused, yet don't quite have the power to use the newer operating systems... While tinkering with computers that others have discarded in the local reclamation center, some promising desktops were brought back to life. The miracle was performed with minor mechanical alterations. When attempting to upgrade their operating systems from Windows 95 to Windows Xp, I discovered that my copy was missing. After ransacking every room in my house, I learned that my original Windows XP Professional CD was absent. I called Micro$oft. They no longer replace or sell xp cd's. Have not done so for years, according to the helpful (yet not helpful) representative I spoke to. Contacting the manufacturer of the system I purchased 4 years ago did not help very much either. Although my version of xp pro was purchased legitimately, registered and activated, it means nothing in the long run. Purchasing a copy, whether new or used, is way beyond my financial abilities at the moment. The end result? Yeh, my tinkering with pc's is stalled, but it's worse than that. If my own desktop, my teen's laptop or my youngest daughter's desktop experience problems that require the XP Pro cd, we're screwed. I have been told an iso image can be downloaded... During his 17 months in office, Barack Obama has morphed from an upbeat candidate into a POTUS who delivers little of value, at the expense of both our fiscal solvency and our American way of life. Even more disconcerting, Obama has become a President, who treats foreign nationals and their interests with more respect than he treats American citizens and issues directly related to the future viability of this country. We cannot forget his bow in front of the Saudi King and his embrace of Hugo Chavez. We compare it to his offensive lack of attention to Governor Bobby Jindal’s requests for Louisiana during the current environmental disaster. His stance on illegal immigration in Arizona and his treatment of Janet Brewer is just more of the same. When he disses them, he disses those who voted for them, and by extension all the rest of us living in this democracy. The man who touted his early Indonesian education doesn’t seem to have an iota of respect for representative government and by extension the citizens he leads. read more ...

Born in Worcester and first elected in 1996, James McGovern is now serving his seventh term as representative of Massachusetts’s Third Congressional District. He is the Vice Chair of the House Rules Committee which sets terms for debate and amendments on legislation, and a member of the House Budget Committee which enabled him to secure millions of dollars for Central and Southeastern MA. In addition, McGovern is co-chair of the Tom Lantos Human Rights Committee and the House Hunger Caucus – two issues that have long been priorities to him. In his term he has been devoted to local and regional projects, small businesses, public safety, regional and mass transportation projects, and affordable housing. Under his leadership, McGovern has delivered millions of dollars for these issues. Specifically he has successfully saved Worcester and Fall River police jobs, brought $2.8 million to transit authorities in greater Attleboro and Southeastern MA for new buses and repairs, and brought $1 million to Medway and Ashland for traffic improvements. As Congressman he has passed important legislation which increased Pell grant funding and allowed more students to have access to higher education. He also gave tax credits to employers who paid the salaries of those employees serving in the National Guard or the Reserves.
