Game Design Studios Questions and Answers
Open Question: What course would you need to attend in order to get a career making animated movies and cutscenes for games?
I've always liked the idea of learning how to use tools such as Maya and 3DSMax to render and create characters and landscapes. I'm not too fond of maths and programming, but I don't know how important either of those are in this regard. The only courses I can find are 'games art & design' courses, and i'm not sure if they'd be what i'm looking for. I mainly want to create cutscenes and intro videos for games, and animated movies from companies like pixar, dreamworks, ect. a few units in this course are: Introduction to Digital Design Introduction to Games Art & Design Visual Communication 3D Modelling Animation Games Art 3D Animation Video Game Studies Games Studio Sound Do you guys think this sounds right? I can't fiind any course that's actually labelled 'Animation' so I can't compare the difference between units. moreOpen Question: Need more info on Dell XPS 8100?

My birthday is soon and I already have a big gift in mind (a underwater digital camera) but I need some other smaller gift idea's to give to family and friends. I'm going to list the things that I'm interested in and I'm hoping that some of you have heard of/or own some fun gadgets, toy's, accessory's, ext. that I might want!! I'm interested in... - Art (Drawing, Painting, Sketching, Sculpture) - Photography (I have a Nikon SLR camera) - Travel - Books (mostly teen fiction; Harry Potter, Twilight, things like that. *However: I'm not looking for book recommendations mainly. If you have a few that's fine but I already got a large batch of books from a friend) - Anything Joss Whedon (I own all his dvd's and comic books already however) - World of Warcraft/Kingdom Hearts - Extra Nerdy-ness (This is very broad because I thought I might get some good gadget/toy suggestions from this one. I like a lot of games, internet, science fiction tv shows. Total nerdy things like that. :) ) - Film (no dvd's please but I love film and movie making. Acting, props, set design and things like that.) I put a lot of the main things I'm interested in, some I already have most of the items that might be suggested (like the "joss whedon" catagory) but I thought I'd list them anyways in case you guys know of something cool and unique that I haven't seen yet. That's really the kind of stuff I'm looking for, unique fun slightly cheaper items. A little more about me to help... - turning 20 - studio arts major - girl The price range is something around 1$ to about...I'll say $100 to be safe but its mostly 50$ish since I already have a large item picked out. Thanks for your help guys!!! I'm totally curious to see what everyone comes up with. Again thanks in advance. :) moreResolved Question: Do you feel like you don't want a job at what you're majoring in anymore?
Ok, I'm in a very renowned art school in the US majoring in animation and minoring in video game design, doing my undergrad. I've always been inspired by both since I was growing up. I'll be graduating in 6 months and now I feel like I may not want to be in a studio.. of any kind. I feel like I'm better off with people...jobs that really deal with people, like business, psychiatry, or anything that centers itself around some form of communications. I have always been good with people. I'm known to be a good listener. Am I just having a phase? I get good grades in college and I'm talented in my studio courses. But when I'm with people--especially any that involves team work--I find it to be my natural high, even though I may be good at drawing/sketching/on the computer with MAYA and Mudbox. I can be on the computer for hours like what the animation/video game industry requires, but I'm finding to be too.... redundant now. I feel like there's more to life than just this. I still like watching animated movies and play video games. I just am feeling a little out of place now... as if it's not my realm anymore. This sudden realization came when I was passing some time during summer break learning Italian through Rosetta Stone. I've always had a flair for languages (sometimes I learn new ones for fun, and I've taken many levels of foreign languages in high school) and one of my childhood dreams was being an interpreter at court or the UN (lol). Is there any advice for me? I'll be graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA). I have heard plenty of people who have majored in a certain area in college and they love their present jobs which was nothing they ever prepared for in their schooling years...but I don't know anyone like that personally. I would love to hear your stories/experiences so I may feel more secure about this sudden change of heart 'cause truth be told, I'm really nervous about it. Thank you so much! I know it may seem like I need to do some soul-searching, but I think I have too many interests besides for doing superficial things on a computer. I just want to know if this sudden (and it's starting to get very serious) change of mind and heart is normal and if there is any advice/tips I can do to ease the transition after I graduate to trying and doing something else (and how). Thanks once again. moreResolved Question: Fifa11 V PES11 Do we need every year ?
Why we need Sports game every year as there is not much innovation .EA and Konami are forced to introduce, deleted or tweak few features that mostly end up ruining the whole experience .Its greed for money they can just make DLC every year and design new game after couple of years as whatever engine they got they are going to juice it for very long time .Look at Madden getting pure reboot after decade and every year was just tweaks. Every year PES /Konami promises us with the most spectacular gameplay the world has ever seen, then the next thing. I know i try out the game don't like it, and end up selling it. Same statement this year too "best gameplay ever". Then, one year later they're telling us how broken it was. Some Possible Tweaks for 2012 as 2011 is just about change in passing by both studios and that’s it. I don`t know who is black mole between them ,who leak secrets whatever one studio is developing other follow suite .last year it was 360 dribbling now finish ping pong passes. Free kicks and Corners are just pure luck without any control to player .PES 12 or Fifa 12 need to come up with on screen button prompt on top of player head so we know by pressing and controlling power where exactly ball will land and it`ll open up more depth in game play . “Unranked or( Charity exhibition Match) ” are there but don`t feel unranked apart from mixing and creating players from different clubs. It should be stress reliever with Arcade style, should `ve blast with it .Crazy lucky shots on goal .Crazy saves and just pure adrenaline fun with lots of goal in every game. It’ll open up path for new players or frustrated played who lost their high rankings to a cheap goal. moreVoting Question: What am i supposed to do with my future?Has anyone been as clueless as me?
I am a 17 years old girl,I have two years of high school left and i will be graduating when i am 19,i know it is one year late but i have never lived in a country for more than 4 years, so because of that my education gets disrupted as i move from one country to another. My parents are diplomats.Anyway i am so confused as to what i want to be.I dont know what collage i want to go to,what major to take and what job to do.I am basically clueless! The main reason as to me being like this is that i have never settled in a country.I live in Europe right now and i would like to live in Canada. But then again i cant decide where to live since i dont know where the future will take me. A long time ago when i was 12 i wanted to be an astronaut and live in Paris but i dont think that is going to be likely as i have no motivation anymore.I failed at math this term and i suck at sciences.I have lost the interest i had for many things. The 10th grade has been the worst year of my life.It totally ruined me.I am so depressed and i feel like i have no purpose.I have stopped believing in God a few months ago.I feel like this is a time to question my self as i seem to waste my life listening to music, watching T.V and staying late till 5 am and sleeping until 3 in the afternoon.I am being consumed with all this,i just dont know how to break this pattern.I have nothing to look forward too,i just feel so suicidal. Thanks for reading ! moreVoting Question: What is the perfect mouse for me (portable gaming)?
I'm in need of a nice mouse. I'm currently using the Microsoft Arc mouse which is an incredible mouse. I love the design, the convenience, the comfort, and the styling. All of friends envy my mouse. I never had a single problem with this mouse throughout my WoW months 2 years ago. I quit PC gaming completely after I got my Xbox, and my laptop never really was able to handle much more than WoW anyway. Now I've got a new laptop, a Dell Studio 1458 with higher end specs. Core i7-720 (1.6ghz quad with turboboost up to 2.8ghz), 4GB 1333mhz of RAM, and an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5450. The GPU is my systems bottleneck. Anyway, enough of that. I played my first shooting games on my PC. Global Agenda and Borderlands. I love both games and do well in them but my mousing isn't very precise. It works but isn't what I would like. Sniping is unbearable with my current mouse. Could this be the mousepad? A red, bottlecap shaped Coca-Cola mousepad. I'm pretty sure it's mouse related though. I need a good mouse. My requirements: --Wireless --Either Bluetooth or with a small USB receiver --Mouse portability isn't a huge problem, but I would prefer a smaller mouse --Costs around $30 but I'd be willing to go up to $50 even though I'd like to see any suggestions up to $75. (I know, I'm looking for a lot of mouse for a little money) --Preferably on the fly sensitivity settings --Has to be precise enough for sniping Does the mousepad matter much? Would I be better off with a solid color, such as the blue they offer at Walmart for $3? I don't really want to drop much for a mousepad, but if it's helpful, I can get a decent one. moreResolved Question: Are Dell laptops good for programs like Photoshop and Maya?
Hey all. I'm starting college this year for a video game design program and I'm looking for laptop to use. I already have a laptop for work at home and they provide computers at the college but I want something to use while I'm on the go, especially since it's a fairly long commute for me. The programs that I know I'll be using include Photoshop CS4, Maya, 3D Max, and Flash. I've been looking at some laptops and was interested in getting a Dell Studio 15 laptop. http://www1.dell.com/ca/p/studio-1558/pd?oc=ns153arn_wk10_1e&model_id=studio-1558 The specs for it are: Processor - Intel® CoreTM i3 350M (2.26GHz/-1Mhz FSB/3MB cache Memory - Up to 4GB Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1333Mhz - 2 DIMMS Harddrive - 500GB SATA hard drive (7200RPM) Video Card - ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 5470, 1GB Is this good enough? I've been looking into a new laptop ($1500 or less), with the primary uses being: -graphic design with PS CS5 -gaming (think MW2 or similar stressload) -class notes (so decent battery life) My current laptop is an HP Pavilion dv6700 Notebook PC. The laptops I've considered so far are the Dell Studio and the Dell Studio XPS. I do not want a Mac, as I don't like the OS. Any advice as to a laptop that would fit my needs is welcome. Also, what is the base difference between Studio and XPS Studio? @Linds Could you explain why Dell is a poor choice? And/or why the choices you offer are superior? I want to make an informed decision! :) moreResolved Question: What jobs are there for Computational Science/Scientific Computing majors?
FSU is starting a new major in Computational Science(B.S.) under the department of Scientific Computing. So far I've heard it is the first public university in the US to offer this major so it has been hard trying to find information on it but the program does exist at other international schools. Does anyone know what types of jobs this major could get? Under the school's possible employment opporunities it listed these: Computational scientist, researcher, research associate, computer modeler. Specifically what do you think this major would be doing at a job and where possibly they may work? Also how likely is it to get the jobs mentioned? I am really interested in becoming a computer animator but the animation program at FSU is under a BFA in Art- Design and is extremely hard to be accepted to and I do not have the nessisary prerequisites. I've been an ITT, Studio Art- Digitial Media, and Computer Science major previously. All worked with computers but not always computer animation so much. I'm looking for the closests one to computer animation that I can be accepted to. Computational Science offers some classes in game design which is close to Computer Animation where as our computer science major is mainly programming and working with databases but then again Computational Science is new and most people have not heard of it. What would you suggest going with for a major? moreResolved Question: How is the Apple Macbook Pro?

Well let me give you some details first. I'm a 17 year old drop out, I am really into video games, computers, and anything related to them. i droped out when i was 16 for stupid reasons. After droping out i moved to Florida, where i met this girl who has brought me great happiness, and is helping me in life. Because of her, i'm going back to school in august. All my electives have to do with computers, Computer science, Game Design, and a few other classes. I am going to school in a virtual academy because i'm better with computers and it would be more in my comfort zone now.. After I graduate i plan to go to Full Sail University, a good school for a person like me in my opinon. Most, if not all their classes have to do with computers or game design. My girlfriend is gonna push me to get atleast B's in every class in high school, hopefully A's, so i can apply for a schoolarship to Full Sail university, and after college, i want to apply for a job at Microsoft, which is good cause she wants to live on the west coast of the US, Rooster Teeth (A pretty well known company that does alot in Video games, mainly ADs) which is located in Texas, or at Bungie Studios, which is known for making Halo games. This is a plan that i truly feel is good, and is the right path to the good life i want to provide for my girlfriend. Do any of you have suggestions or think this is good/bad for any reason? moreResolved Question: what is the best game designing program?

Major = Game Art & Design or Animation Minor = Business My future goals: I want to work in the video game industry, and possibly film (I have a lot of talent in art and animation). Sooner or later, I want to own my own game studio. At the same time, but probably irrelevant, I want to invest in real estate. What do you guys think? @PE2008: I don't think you know very much about real estate investing... you can make a profit in a down market, if you know anything about investing. Also, the "game industry is going offshore"? Why do you say that? I think its highly possible that as technology progresses, there would be a higher demand for game artists to use that technology. Game art and entrepreneurship are my two passions in life... I don't know if there's anything else I would do, other than screen acting (although I have thought of being a plastic surgeon... hm) moreResolved Question: What do my PC need to fit me?
When Im on my PC, I spent lots and lots of time on designing and making stuff. I also produce music. My current PC is pretty OK, but I think I will need a better one very soon. The most annoying part right now is that when I produce music (with FL Studio), a noisy sound appears between the tones if I play too many at once. Exporting my project into an MP3 works tho, but I would like to hear a clean preview before I spend 3 minutes on exporting (if you have to export 7-8 times because of a very minor change, it gets annoying). What do a PC need in this case, to avoid the noisy stuff?? A good soundboard? Im also using Photoshop a lot, and I will be using 3D Studio max a lot later on. These are designing programs, and I dont really know what a PC must have to run these very good. At last, Im making videos. I have experienced a few crashes on my PC while messing with a video. At the top of all this, I also enjoy a game now and then. Does all this result in a PC that requires very good of everything? And would anyone dare to suggest a euro or dollar price for such PC? I spend many hours on my computer daily, so I dont want to be dissapointed, and want a PC that can last for a few years. moreVoting Question: What is it really like being in the video game industry and is it worth a try for me?
Video game design/development is always something that I've wanted to do with my life, it's been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember to try and land an internship or a QA testing job, and work my way up the industry ladder and eventually get a job developing my own concepts and creations on a major AAA console tittle and/or pc. I will try to keep this story short for all intents and purposes but I would appreciate any sort of insight from anyone who is either in the industry, or has some sort of experience from the industry, or anyone who knows anyone tthereof I'd like to know for one if it's reasonably feasible for me to chase my dream here, and if the industry is all it's actually cracked up to be after all... as I've heard that in some careers you don't actually have a life outside of work and end up spending 60-100 hours a week at the studio office developing and working for meiger pay ( although if that leads to other horizons I'd be willing to make sacrafices). The name is Rob and I'm 23, currently in between jobs and have some job experience that I must first admit has nothing at all to do with video game design, don't have any coding knowledge and not familiary with production power houses like Mya/3d Max or others. Although I have done some freelance game moding, such as weapon, level, level prop, and character mod's for games like halo and half life and I'm a life long passionate gamer. I tried attending ITT Technical institute for a tech program, but found out that credits almost never transfer, there educational facilities were very underpar at times, and also found that they wanted BOOKOO tuition for what they were offering. So now in my life I'm sittting here in between jobs, in debt to the department of education among other student loan lending organizations, and I'm basically stuck and almost shit outta luck. Is it worth going back to school and is it really truly worth it if/when I get there to go to the great lengths I'll need to to get skills for game designing? moreResolved Question: Dell Studio XPS 16 vs Alienware M15x?
So, I have been looking at laptops because my aunt is getting me one for my graduation present. I don't think money is a big factor in the decision so basically I am wondering how the performance of these two computers compares. I know a decent amount about hardware (enough that I have built 3 or 4 computers in the past) and I plan on going to college to major in Computer Science. I wouldn't be doing a whole lot of gaming although I would like to still be able to. Basically what I want to know is how the 2 laptops compare in terms of general use such as word processing, photo editing, occasional gaming, and particularly programming. I know that the XPS is much thinner than the M15x but from what I have heard the M15x is much better at dissipating heat and staying cool so both have their pros and cons. Bottom line, which do you think would be a better performing laptop? Does one or the other have bigger heat problems? And is the M15x, with its thicker, beefier design too cumbersome or is it not a big deal? moreResolved Question: Dell Studio XPS 8100 vs. Dell Studio 9000?
I am looking into buying a new desktop computer. I currently own a laptop but the screen was too small and dim so I bought a separate/larger screen. I have my choices down to two units. The Dell Studio XPS 8100 and the Dell Studio 9000. After viewing the comparison link below, can I have your opinion on which one is the better deal for me? $900 is pushing my budget, I wish to keep it under $700 if possible but heres what I’d use it for. I do freelance desktop publishing. Very basic. I work with Adobe illustrator and InDesign mainly. I have Photoshop too. I will also plan to install other basic Microsoft office utilities. Like word and excel. Chat clients like trillion and yahoo messenger, possibly firefox because I’m not a huge fan of IE. iTunes and of course your basic printer. I keep my computers relatively clean and maintained. No major gaming but good graphics are best with my design major. Although, I deal with more 2D images like flyers and newsletters and I’m working towards working with the design of young childrens work books. Simple vector graphics, nothing drawn. I prefer windows 7, not vista. The last thing I wonder though, my cable modem is located on another wall in my office, acrossed the room from my desk. Laptop has wireless so it works fine but wondering if one of these computers are able to work in the same way or if ill have to rewire my office inorder to get internet on my pc? unless I can possibly add in a wireless card for it. Knowing this, what would you say would be the best buy for me? http://www.dell.com/content/products/resultscompare.aspx/?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&~oe=true&prods=us~en~29~desktop-studio-xps-9000_anav_1~~,us~en~29~studio-xps-8100-anav1~~ moreVoting Question: Which laptop to get? Going to uni, reasonable gaming performance :)?
Hi, going to uni next year in the UK so shopping around for laptops. Doing engineering so the laptop needs to be able to cope with CAD/graphic design software etc, ideally 15+inch screen. Price range probably £400-600 (ish) and probably using Dell. There are a few options...basically I want something that can play modernish games (COD4, Medieval Total War etc) to a reasonable standard. We've been looking at i3 processors approx 2.1Ghz, is this the way to go? 3-4gb ram, but the main problem is the video card which I don't seem to be able to find much info on and I don't really have much of an clue about to be honest. Many of the laptops come with "Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator HD " which I'm guessing is the basic standard and isn't too good for gaming. You can upgrade to "512MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD4330 Graphics Card " or even "1GB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5450" are either of these worth it? If so which one? I'm a college student. I use MS Office pretty often. I plan on running CS3 on the computer as well as a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) called FL Studios. I play a few games, but nothing very graphics intensive. Most of the games I use are pretty old (although StarCraft 2 is looking pretty good.) I do a little bit of programming in C++ and some web design. Also, I've considered getting a student license for a CAD program such as AutoDesk or SolidWorks. I'm not sure if I want to do that yet though. So, what type of computer fits that kid of a bill? (both specs and brand) Thanks. moreResolved Question: Is Resident Evil designed for Japan or USA?
Capcom is a Japanese studio yet the games (and other parts of the franchise) are centered around the USA. For example, most, if not all of the main characters are American, and many of the elements are in the USA such as Raccoon City. Leon S. Kennedy even works for the CIA. So my question is... Is Resident Evil made by the Japanese for Americans or are they just basing it in America? moreResolved Question: I am comparing 2 laptops and was wondering which one should i buy?

Hello all, I want to have a video game concept produced one day and I am hoping that there's someone out there who could shed some light on the process. Let's assume that my game concept, story, and 3d were PERFECT. Let's say I could do everything related to the games design MINUS programming. How would I be able to work with a game studio to cover the programming? Are there agents out there? What would the procedure be? In my mind I want to present the studio with a script and I can also do all the 3d work. Heck I can probably do all the cut scenes too. **with some help of course!** I know 3ds max, maya, and zbrush inside and out. I have a friend who can write and I can probably assemble all the necessary pieces to this puzzle EXCEPT a programmer. If I had the 3d work, concept and script would that give me a chance to work with any studio to make this game a reality? I guess my main question is... With my current skill set how would I approach a game studio for help? What would really fire up their imagination to a degree where they would be willing to work with me? I don't want to pop onto a cheap program like gamemaker or something and try to make a sub-par game. If I had the opportunity I would love to make something millions would enjoy... Not a few... Hello. I am a 12th standard student who will pass out class 12th this year. I need some advice on career options. I want to opt a career which pays me a high salary and i find it interesting. I firmly believe that "DO WHAT YOU LOVE THEN WORK WILL NOT SEEM WORK IT WILL BE PLAY" I am ready to work every bit to get such a job. Hard work is not a constraint for me. I am ready to work hard. I have decided the following options for me- Option 1: Mechanical/Electronics/Aeronautics/Automobile Engineer - because i have immense interest in machines and the way they work. I love science especially physics therefore i want to make a career in this field. I wan a job in which i would be given a project and a deadline to complete it, like design a new and more efficient jet engine for an aircraft, or design a more efficient car design or a better and efficient circuit for some device or develop a robot for some purpose(i also have immense interest in robotics and automation) or design better circuits for things like computer GPUs, motherboard, network cards etc.. I mean to say i want to be a salaried employee in such fields and work on various projects for a company with a project team.(do not confuse this with reasearch work, i want to be an engineer not a scientist and just sit in a lab doing calculations only, i want to work on desk with paper and pen and as well as with machines and tools in the development workshop) I am very good at physics, mathematics and chemistry. I just love doing physics and mathematics. Especially physics is very very interesting and that too th mechanics and electronics part in it. Basically i want a job which demands creativity, innovation and inquisitiveness. Option 2: Game development job - programming/graphics/music - any of these three parts of game development, in fact all three can be handled by me, becuase i love video games and also interested in programming and graphics and i can also work on the music part as i am an experienced keyboard player(playing since 7 years) and also know how to play drums, i also keep working on studio softwares on pc and interfacing my keyboard with pc to make music and various tracks. I just now know C/C++ progamming, Adobe Photoshop and some basic HTML/CSS web designing. But above all these things, i want a high salary also so that i can have all the luxuries that i have dreamt of till now and i am reay to work hard till the end for it(i know that all this wont come for free without hard work) Just now i have planned to do engineering in Mech./Electronics/Automobile/Aeronautics. And then post graduation for specialization in that field also. But after this i dont want to sit in a lab and work on paper like a scientist. I want to make new designs and implement them with tools and machines in the workshop. I dont know how much salary engineers get for such work. Please give some information regarding this. People mostly get very high salaries after doing MBA......like a combination of BTech from IIT and MBA from IIM is a very high paid combination.......i mean 1+ lakhs Rs per month or so. But i dont think doing MBA after doing BTech is a good choice as MBA totally deviates you from your scientific field and pulls you into finance and accounts field and you end up getting a very high paid job but thats a job like a job in a bank or some finance company........just sitting in your A/C cabin and doing analysis and calculating finances and working on your laptop 7-8 hours a day.....no creativity......no innovation........and above all......no science involved....MBA totally wipes off the science thing from a BTech graduate......and people just go in to MBA because it pays them high salary.......then what was the use of doing BTech and studying science for 4 years......was it just a degree addition to your career?.....i dont understand this concept of MBA after doint BTech........but many IITians opt for MBA from IIMs after their BTech.....god knows why......is it just the money......doesn't their interst in science matter to them anymore after doing BTech and that too from a "science heaven" like IIT....please guide me if my thinking is wrong about all this....i mean this is what i feel....i am sorry if i am offending anybody......i am not saying anythings against people doing BTech+MBA........they are super brilliant and deserve a high pay and a good job......but the above mentioned thoughts come to my mind again and again whenever i think of MBA after doing my BTech......please advice me on this So please advice any career option based on above written things for me. moreResolved Question: Carrier in Game Designing in India or abroad ?

My dad told me i need a 1gb video card if i wanted to go into game design or else i'd have to get a whole new laptop. i was wondering if this was true. does anyone know if any college course or program required more than 512mb video cards or if this is the right laptop for me? i'm just looking for a laptop to last me through college and even further. i like the studio 15 but i still don't know if its right. people say the studio xps is good but i find it far too expensive. your help is really appreciated. moreResolved Question: Game design help (education, etc.)?
I am looking seriously at Being on the game design team at Epic Games (they are in my state), but I need some info in general. First, what major would I need to get if I want to do design such as storyline, character design, and the general feel and design of the game. What major do I have to get in college for this? Compute science? Also, how hard is it to get into a studio? Part of me thinks it's hard, but another part of me thinks that if you're good enough (which I kind of am) than it's easy. Also a side note, I can KINDA draw, but not like hugely amazing or anything, if that helps moreVoting Question: How would I go about making a studio?
I am 15 and I am interested in studio that will design games. Am I restricted from doing this because of my age in Canada? I will mostly be making and selling 2D games online and know I will make profit. I was thinking of making it a actual biz if possible. moreResolved Question: Which Laptop to buy? Dell or Acer? Well I'm aspiring to be a Game Designer and open up my own game studio one day. It's all I can see myself doing in the future. So I decided to do a little bit of research on the subject. There's lots of colleges offering a degree in game design or a BS in CS centered around game programming. Now I've been reading on the net and there seems to be a rather large split as to weather or not the value of these kind of degree's are worth the time and effort to even be bothered with. Most agree an amazing portfolio is the key to everything, but I still want a degree regardless to back everything up. So that being said im wondering is a game design degree really worth my time? I'm really interested in designing games and I want my first foot in the door to be my best foot so I'm really not sure what to do. I've been programming and making my own games (started with a chess set and some D&D rules and dice) for a long time. My next question is if it is then which one is the right to go to? I've been looking at University of Advanced Technology and Collins College and Art institutes. Are these school reputable? Digi pen seem to look alright too as well as Full sail, but those last 2 seem kind of expensive. Or would a BS in CS be any better then these and if so where too? I need advice asap because I want to start school in the spring since I can't see myself getting a job here in Florida any time soon. I'm 23 and I'm tired of living at home lol. I just hope this higher education thing isn't going to be a financial waste that's going to throw me into massive debt. moreGame Design Studios Links
