Resolved Question: What do you want from life?

What do you want from life? To kidnap an heiress or threaten her with a knife? What do you want from life? To get cable TV and watch it every night? There you sit
a lump in your chair Where do you sleep
and what do you wear when you're sleeping? What do you want from life? An Indian guru
to show you the inner light? What do you want from life? a meaningless love affair
with a girl that you met tonight? How can you tell when you're doin' alright? Does your bank account swell while you're dreaming at night? How do know when you're really in love? Do violins play when you're touching the one that you're loving? What do you want from life? Someone to love
and somebody that you can trust? What do you want from life? To try and be happy while you do the nasty things you must? Well, you can't have that, - but if you're an American citizen you are entitled to... a heated kidney shaped pool, a microwave oven--don't watch the food cook,
a Dyna-Gym--I'll personally demonstrate it in the privacy of your own home,
a king-size Titanic unsinkable Molly Brown waterbed with polybendum,
a foolproof plan and an airtight alibi,
real simulated Indian jewelry, a Gucci shoetree,
a year's supply of antibiotics,
a personally autographed picture of Randy Mantooth and Bob Dylan's new unlisted phone number,
a beautifully restored 3rd Reich swizzle stick,
Rosemary's baby,
a dream date in kneepads with Paul Williams,
a new Matador, a new mastodon,
a Maverick, a Mustang, a Montego,
a Merc Montclair, a Mark IV, a meteor,
a Mercedes, an MG, or a Malibu,
a Mort Moriarty, a Maserati, a Mac truck,
a Mazda, a new Monza, or a moped,
a Winnebago--Hell, a herd of Winnebago's we're giving 'em away,
or how about a McCulloch chainsaw,
a Las Vegas wedding,
a Mexican divorce,

Resolved Question: Any Pool fans here old enough to remember the days when ?

friends and family and/or strangers who supported United, would be on the receiving end of ridicule and laughter from ourselves ? In 1986 I recall being up in the midlands, with my family - recall clearly till this day, a little me standing outside in some peoples garden (they folks from the bridesmaids family....preparing last minute orders/supplies for a wedding part etc). I guess my mother was close friends with the bridesmaid or a the bridesmaids friend(s). A kid , older than me - permed hair, was doing 'keepie-uppies' in the back garden chewing gum. I was a little sh1t at the time, and i recall moving away from my mum and letting curiosity get the better of me - so i ventured out into the garden. I stepped past the washing line and the older lad, i mentioned - was chewing gum and doing his little keepie-uppies with a worn out leather football. It was a really sunny day, and quite hot too. don't know what sparked a conversation between us , but he kept his eyes on the ball and kept doing his keepie-uppies and he asked me 'who do you support ?' " Liverpool " i said, firmly. * chews his gum - doesn't bother looking at me * " Liverpool are rubbish - Manchester United rule " " nah, i think your team is rubbish and mine is the best ! " the rest is a blur. ( today I admit we are rubbish and United ARE the best....ish heh) but back then, i remember how the big kid almost put the ball down and gave me a kick in the ar5e XD : )) but it was the truth and i am so glad I said it to him - to his face. who he was, i don't know. probably wasted everyones time 'sharing that' but what the heck heh all the best MR ANFIELD ACES ~ " the peoples choice " ~  more

Resolved Question: Wedding Transportation??????????????????????????

My sister in law got married last year and supplied a mini bus for the wedding guests going back to the same town, after the whole day. However now I am getting married and have far too many guests going back to the same place and feel this would just be an extra expense I don't need. Plus I have never heard of transport being laid on for AFTER the whole day! If I went to a wedding at the end of the evening I would expect to get myself home. Please help on what you would do! We can afford to do it , but as we are getting married in a manor house there are plenty of rooms to stay in!! Thanks Kelly for that funny answer!! Even though it is a manor house it is not a fortune to stay there!!! And I don't think my family are that stupid to drink and drive and there are such things as taxis!!  more

Resolved Question: Is this good advice from Baz Luhrmann?

Ladies and Gentlemen of the class of ’97 Wear Sunscreen If I could offer you only one tip for the future, sunscreen would be it. The long term benefits of sunscreen have been proved by scientists, whereas the rest of my advice has no basis more reliable than my own meandering experience I will dispense this advice now. Enjoy the power and beauty of your youth, oh nevermind, you will not understand the power and beauty of your youth until they've faded. But trust me, in 20 years you’ll look back at photos of yourself and recall in a way you can’t grasp now, how much possibility lay before you and how fabulous you really looked, you are not as fat as you imagine. Don’t worry about the future, or worry, but know that worrying is as effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing bubblegum. The real troubles in your life are apt to be things that never crossed your worried mind, the kind that blindside you at 4pm on some idle Tuesday. Do one thing everyday that scares you Sing Don’t be reckless with other people’s hearts, don’t put up with people who are reckless with yours. Floss Don’t waste your time on jealousy, sometimes you’re ahead, sometimes you’re behind, the race is long, and in the end, it’s only with yourself. Remember the compliments you receive, forget the insults, if you succeed in doing this, tell me how. Keep your old love letters, throw away your old bank statements. Stretch Don’t feel guilty if you don’t know what you want to do with your life, the most interesting people I know didn’t know at 22 what they wanted to do with their lives, some of the most interesting 40 year olds I know still don’t. Get plenty of calcium. Be kind to your knees, you’ll miss them when they’re gone. Maybe you’ll marry, maybe you won’t, maybe you’ll have children, maybe you won’t, Maybe you’ll divorce at 40, Maybe you’ll dance the funky chicken on your 75th wedding anniversary What ever you do, don’t congratulate yourself too much or berate yourself either Your choices are half chance, so are everybody else’s. Enjoy your body, use it every way you can, don’t be afraid of it, or what other people think of it, it’s the greatest instrument you’ll ever own Dance, even if you have nowhere to do it but in your own living room. Read the directions, even if you don’t follow them. Do not read beauty magazines, they will only make you feel ugly. Brother and sister together we'll make it through Someday a spirit will take you and guide you there I know you've been hurtin, but I've been waitin' to be there for you And I'll be there just helping you out whenever I can Get to know your parents, you never know when they’ll be gone for good. Be nice to your siblings, they are the best link to your past and the people most likely to stick with you in the future. Understand that friends come and go, but for the precious few you should hold on. Work hard to bridge the gaps in geography and lifestyle because the older you get, the more you need the people you knew when you were young. Live in New York City once, but leave before it makes you hard, Live in Northern California once, but leave before it makes you soft. Travel. Accept certain inalienable truths, prices will rise, politicians will philander, you too will get old, and when you do you’ll fantasize that when you were young prices were reasonable, politicians were noble and children respected their elders. Respect your elders. Don’t expect anyone else to support you. Maybe you have a trust fund, Maybe you have a wealthy spouse; but you never know when either one might run out. Don’t mess too much with your hair, or by the time you're 40, it will look 85. Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who supply it. Advice is a form of nostalgia, dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it’s worth. But trust me on the sunscreen Brother and sister together we'll make it through Someday a spirit will take you and guide you there I know you've been hurtin, but I've been waitin' to be there for you And I'll be there just helping you out whenever I can Everybody's free oh yeah Everybody's free oh yeah  more

Resolved Question: Help with OPK result???????

I've just started to get back into using OPK (had 9 month break from ttc whilst organising my wedding) my question is, I'm now CD13 and have been using test strips since CD9, the strips I am using say that for a positive result the two lines should be equal in colour or the other line darker than the test line (anything else ie one line or test line darker than the other line is a negative).... my confusion is that for the 1st 3 days of testing I only had one line which obviously = negative,,,, last night I had 2 lines thought the test line was darker still so, took this as negative result,,,, I just did another test at lunchtime and only got one line,,,,, does this mean that the 2 lines I seen were actually a positive result, and therefore I may have missed my chance this month, we didn't BD last night as my husband has only 2% healthy sperm so during our fertile time we try and 'build up' his supply to maximise O day,,,, I am going to test again tonight to see what result I have then as according to online calculations I'm not due to O till Thursday, but I know thats only a rough indication,,,, Any ideas / reasons for these results,,,,, Thanks in advance, hope this all makes sense :-)xx  more

Resolved Question: Would anyone like to give me some business advice? Baked good related?

I have recently started my own cupcake company, we sell at food events, markets, etc and some weeks we do really well, and others not so well, our cupcakes look amazing, we do really nice flavours that others cupcake companies don't and we try to think out of the box when we are looking at events. We don't have the funds to buy a shop at the mo, and our start up costs have escalated quite a bit. The advice I would like is how to maximize sales, we have thought abuot buying a coffee machine, but like I said money is short, plus the competition to supply coffee is high. We do other things, like cookies, big cakes, truffles, and some seasonal stuff, which we will be concentrating on over Xmas, and also have tapped into the wedding market and that is all going well at the moment. So anyone got any advice for me? Oh and we went round all the little cafes in town with free cupcakes, and a trade price list, but got nada. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! many thanks in advance.  more

Resolved Question: Any ideas where i can get funding?

Hey everyone , im wanting to open a Bridal shop in my hometown. I want to sell Bride,B/maid and Flower girl Dresses along with Shoes, Veils, Tiaras Prom dresses and when the time comes Communion dresses. I have found premises which i on 2 levels, straight across from it is hair n beauty salon, 4 doors up is a wedding photographer, there is also a kilt hire shop, stationery shop, cake shop and a lovely hotel that does wedding functions. There is no other Bridal shop in the town. However there are in the town approx 10 - 15 miles away. I have already been in contact with some very well known wedding dress designers who have said they are interested in supplying me with gowns (to which i would have exclusivity too) and also well known bridal shoe designer who has said they will supply me and have already sent me a catalogue!!!!! I am getting a FANTASTIC deal on the rent of the premises. If i take them im getting discount on first 6 months rent and no deposit required (helps to know the right people lol) I know this is a fantastic opportunity. And for the cynics out there that think bridal salons don't do that well as less people are getting married or because there is a "credit crunch" on. You are wrong. You wont believe how much homework i have put into this, i am a single mother with 8 year old child so wouldn't dream of jumping into something feet first. Bridal shops are one of the only sectors NOT being affected by the credit crunch. Ive already opened a business bank account but unfortunately i couldn't get the funding i needed of approx £6000. Money is needed to transform the premises into a chic bridal shop, shop sign, website advertising etc. So....... if anyone has any ideas where i can get funding PLEASE let me know! Thanks in advance everyone xx  more

Resolved Question: BHS Light replacements?

I have some stand alone furniture lamps we got for a wedding present. They originally came from BHS (british home stores) but are now discontinued. The lights are designed like a tree/plant with the lights coming out from the base individually. One of the glass cases that goes over the bulb has broken and another peice from another stork that is just glass has also broken. Does anyone know of anywhere that supplies replacements for discontinued lines. I have no model code on the lights so i cannot identify exactly which model it is.  more

Resolved Question: I am being stupid and ungrateful?

Its my 50th birthday tomorrow and on Saturday I am having a party. We were unable to find a hall so my step daughter offered to have the party at her house. I come from a huge family as does my husband so we had to drastically cut the guest list to just our children, grandchildren, brothers & sisters. However my step daughter keeps asking to add people on to the list. At first I really didn't mind as I was so grateful that she was allowing us to have it at her house. She has just emailed me saying that she wants to invite more friends of hers. However having counted numbers there are now over 50 people coming and only 10 of those are my family. It just seems to be turning into her pre wedding party yet I am supplying all the food and drink and doing all the cooking. I have now got to the point where I don't even want this party. My husband just says that I will enjoy it on the day and just go along with it to keep the peace. I just feel this resentment building inside me as there are so many members of my family that I would have liked to be there but didn't invite because I didn't think she would have the room. I really don't know what to do. Any idea's?  more

Resolved Question: What do you think of this idea - get an art student to decorate my wedding?

I am on a very very tight budget. For my wedding I had the idea that maybe I could pay an art student/ design student or something like that to decorate the venue for the wedding. Obviously I would give him/her guidelines and not have it too out there. The advantage would be that they would get paid a small amount and have the photos for their portfolio or whatever. I would get a creative design at a lower price? I would supply the materials they needed. What do you think.  more

Resolved Question: Worst wedding ever... should we have just eloped?

I wanted to elope to marry my now husband since i am not a fan of public affairs :D Our wedding seemed to be a litany of things that went wrong, shall i indulge you? :) it seemed like nothing could go right for our day * the rings got held up at customs and almost didn't make it in time * when we went to collect the beef the farmers were not there and although we did get hold of them the next day it was touch and go * The horse and carriage did not supply us with the horses we paid for (the most gutting thing since these horses (nothing special at all) will be in the pics for ever and this was our only splurge) *the photographer didn't turn up and luckily we found someone to do just two hours at short notice. (how can you forget the date?) * The cake, we had ordered one but got a call two weeks before the wedding to say the bakers were awful but luckily the caller had another number * The tea and coffee and after dinner things we bought never got put out at all * several families brought uninvited children *the DJ was crap and played only an hour of music because by the time he got started most of the guests had left!! * half the nibbles were never cooked and dinner was served an hour early because there was miscommunication in the kitchen * The fake horse and carriage was so late * several guests just didn't turn up at all * some of the last minute things we wanted to go down to the hall just never made it *the music for the ceremony was all wrong and played in the wrong order etc We should just have eloped, shouldn't we :) anyone else with wedding horror stories? we did plan ahead. we also did a lot of the work ourselves. The 'fake' horse and carriage was the ones that turned up which we had not payed for. our guests were very well taken care of why should we not have had somehting nice for us. the rings were being sent from the states and should have arrived in enough time Im sorry not everyone has all the money to have professionals do eerything for them and all the time in the world. Oh and by the time the tea and coffee time came round i forgot to ask about them, i had other things on my plate  more

Resolved Question: I want to be creative and make some craft-style stuff and am looking for ideas?

I need the materials to be relatively cheap. I am mostly looking at jewellery, hair pins etc. And possibly some glass painting. I would love any ideas/pics/recommendations. I have only just begun looking into it and would love some advice. I am also looking at making a big scrap book of all the dates me & my fiance go on over the next year (the year leading up to our wedding!) to give to him on our wedding day so any websites with good scrapbooking supplies would be awesome! I am from the UK so will need stores over here, or online stores that post here relatively cheaply.  more

Resolved Question: Budget Honeymoon for May 09?

so then, we've got all the wedding stuff booked & paid for and now were looking for the fun part... the honeymoon, Unfortunately we've spent most of our budget on the wedding leaving only about £500 max for the honeymoon. we want somewhere with stuff to do (i.e. theme parks/museums/day trips/shopping/markets etc...) that's not going to kill us on spending money as that's mainly being supplied by the guests with about £500 from ourselves. we would prefer to go abroad but if our budget doesn't meet requirements we were planning a week in london as we've been there before. any suggestions would be great!  more

Resolved Question: Why is a cash bar so wrong?

We are paying for the wedding ourselves, we would like friends and family to celebrate with us we have been lucky to get the reception venue free because they know people will be using the bar. we are thinking of putting some money behind the bar for soft drinks. we will lay on tea and coffee. we are supplying our own champers and of course all the food why is it wrong to have the option of people buying their own drinks if they want something else. we are just doing what we can afford, i suppose if this puts peoples noses up then that's their issue.  more

Resolved Question: can i complain about a local housing association? or who would i complain about?

basically our housing association has (after 10 years) decided that the estate can have new fitted kitchens. Our kitchen started being fitted last Wednesday, the contents of the kitchen are now spread around the house between the bedrooms & hallway. the cooker, fridge, freezer, washing machine etc is out in the garden under tarpaulin. On Weds the contractors said they didn't have enough tiles to finish the walls, we could live with that. But now the other contractors doing the floor say they haven't got enough glue to do the flooring! All of our stuff has been in the garden since Weds and living in Wales we haven't had the driest weather! since this started we have been forced to live off toast as we don;t have a cooker and can not afford to eat out every night. i feel that if they didn't have the supplies to start and finish the job in 3 days as they proposed then they shouldn't have started the job. the housing association blame the contractors, the contractors blame their suppliers! i don't really care who is to blame its just driving me around the twist! along with other stresses i have this is making me feel like i'm having a breakdown - i've been referred for counselling this morning by my doctor & given anti-depressants. I know this isn't just from the kitchen fiasco but its not helping and just want to make a complaint to somebody and get something done! anybody have any advice please?  more

Resolved Question: Do wedding photographers have the copyright on the pictures they take?

This is the question I asked yesterday, and it seems I upset a few photographers out there. Sorry about that, but it seems to me that £800 for 1 hours work, then to supply discs with 1 copy of each picture, was a bit over the top. If I commission an artist to paint my portrait, I would not expect him to take the finished product home with him and charge me extra for the occasional look. My son and his wife only wanted someone with "A good eye" to make sure the pics were a good standard. They obviously misunderstood the contract that they would have to pay for additional copies rather than being able to copy them themselves. I am in the wrong business. Thank you for all the interesting replies I received. I normally would not condone trying to bypass the security on the disc to make illegal copies, but £800 seemed a bit of a rip off. Once again, apologies to all you photographers that were offended.  more

Resolved Question: does a pro photographer have the right to copyright the pics he takes of a wedding?

Our son was recently married and paid £800 for a wedding photographer who used digital cameras, and only supplied discs with one copy of each picture. When he tried to make copies to send to us, he found that there was a copyright "rootkit" on the disc stopping him from copying. The only way to get copies is to pay more cash to the photographer, which, surely, cannot be right. If they were taken using film, he would have recieved the pics plus all the negatives, and could copy all he wanted. Is there anyway to bypass this security program on the disc to enable him to make copies for his family.  more

My fiance is doing an MA in Curating & although he works part time as a supply teacher after he's paid for his car & credit cards, it's left to me to pay the entire mortgage/all household bills/all food. I'm not on a massive salary and am fed up with my job & would like to go & do an MA myself to further my career, but financially there's no way I can until he completes his MA in 2009 & then there's the wedding to pay for in 2010. I wouldn't mind putting my plans on hold if he was at least grateful, but recently I feel I've been giving far more than I get back, doing all the housework, paying for everything and even doing his written assignments for his MA! In the meantime all he does is snap at me because of the pressure he's under with work & study, but the majority of it is self inflicted -he's voluntarily taken on the responsibility of curating 3 national art exhibitions & it's too much. He's usually fantastic but this pressure has made him into a different person. How should I cope? I wouldn't say he think's "important", but he is very ambitious, which I admire as he is trying to get ahead for the sake of providing a future for us and our future family. Thing is, I think sometimes he;s so focussed on what he wants to achieve in the long run he forgets about the importance of the present! I've tried to speak to him he can see he's being unreasonable & will apologise. His heart's in the right place, but when he's stressed he can't see the wood for the trees and just ends up snapping at me again! I'm not using "snapping a me" as a euphemism for verbal abuse. I've never felt threatened by him, just frustrated. Yes, I work full time. The reason why I've helped with his essays is because since starting his course he's found out he's dyslexic and my degree is in English. His strength is in the more hands-on side of the MA and after living with him getting more an more stressed for months on end and getting extension after extension for an essay he just couldn't write I wrote it for him for the sake of my sanity!!! I'm not moving out - I owned the house before I met him and its in my name! Shorty, you're spot on about "if you want something done, ask a busy person" - not only do I work full time, I have also set up my own business from home to tide us over financially plus I play violin in two bands...serves me right for being "miss organised", eh?!  more

Resolved Question: I need reasonably priced handmade invitations?

Can anyone suggest any UK websites which supply handmade wedding invitations that are reasonably priced? I'm running low on budget and so I don't want to spend much, but I also don't want them to look cheap and tacky (I'm not that good at craft so doing them myself is out of the question!). I've tried searching on the web, but the sites I have found are quite expensive. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Many thanks Dona xx  more

Resolved Question: Outside Wedding Venue?

Does anyone know of a venue outside that I can hire to put up a marquee and have my own caterers supply the food for my wedding reception areond the bedfordshire area uk. Thanks  more

Resolved Question: Marquee Wedding.?

I would prefer answers from Ireland or the Uk on this but all answers would be welcome. Myself and the bould fella are off to a wedding on Saturday. The reception is being held in a marquee and last night we were discussing the way things would be done. Himself thinks it'll be like every wedding we've ever been to with a sit down meal and a full bar but I'm not so sure. I think the proceedings will involve a buffet and limited drinks supply. I'm not really bothered and would be quite happy with either arrangement but I'd love to hear everyone else's experiences of mrquee wedding receptions as this is a first for us. I should also mention that the Marquee is in the grounds of a private dwelling not a hotel.  more

Resolved Question: What should I do about my wedding?

I booked my Catholic wedding last autumn for October this year and my fiance and I have just started having our preparation sessions with the deacon, the priest's assistant, but only three weeks ago, we were suddenly told that the priest had just booked a pilgrimage at the church on our wedding day and he is refusing to cancel this, even though our wedding was booked months ago and way before he booked the pilgrimage. He has even said that he will never even apologise about this to us. Other priests have now turned us down because the rule is that you can only get married in your parish or the church you attend regularly. It is a complete mess as my reception venue (half an hour from the church) is booked and paid for as are many other supplies for the wedding. Where do I stand? Is this a legal issue and should I go over this priest's head and see what the bishop can do to make him rearrange things or allow us to marry in another church? What would you do?  more

Resolved Question: Some Fun Beer Facts but are they true yes or no?

About 4000 years ago, it was the accepted practice in Babylonia that for a month after the wedding, the bride's father would supply his son-in-law with all the mead he could drink. Mead is a honey beer, and because their calender was lunar based, this period was called the "honey month" or what we know to day as the "Honey moon" Before invention of the thermometer, brewers used to check the temperature by dipping their thumb, to find whether appropriate for adding Yeast. Too hot, the yeast would die. This is where we get the phrase " The Rule of the Thumb" In English pubs, ale is ordered by pints and quarts. So in old England, when customers got unruly, the bartender used to yell at themto mind their own pints and quarts and settle down. From where we get "mind your own P's and Q's". After consuming a vibrant brew called Aul or Ale, the Vikings would go fearlessly to the battlefield, without their armour, or even their shirts. The "Berserk" means "bear shirt" in norse, and eventually to the meaning of wild battles. Way down in 1740, the Admiral Veron of the British fleet decided to water down the navy's rum, which naturally, the sailors weren't pleased with. They nicknamed the Admiral Old Grog, after the still stiff grogram coats he used to wear. The term grog soon began to mean the watered down drink itself. When you are drunk on this this grog, you are "groggy", a word still in use. Long ago in England, pub frequenters had a whistle baked into the rim of their beer mugs or ceremic/glass cups. The whistle was used to order services. Thus we get the phrase, "wet your whistle".  more

Resolved Question: I've been told new rules on taking medication into another country is it true?

Does anyone know if it's true, I'm on the maximum amount of codeine a day and if I go to another country do I have to have a certificate from my GP also is there only a certain amount you can take with you, maybe a weeks supply. I know codeine is an opiate so are there rules, I've looked and can't find anything, any help will be great. I'd like to go to St Lucia for 2 weeks for my niece's wedding I was told that there are new rules only a few months ago for opiate drugs Thanks Bunches so it could be right, it's not so much drugs like co-codamol it's full strength codeine so it's a higher form of opiate. Michelle thanks if you could as they say it's not what you know but who.  more
