Open Question: Good ideas for kids (wedding favours)?

We have 13 children attending our wedding, we have 4 children between the ages of 12 & 18 months, boys aged 7, 9 (x3), 11 and girls aged 6 (x2), 8, 10. I'm going to provide a bunch of stuff like bubbles, colouring books and stickers but i would like them to have 'something' in their favour boxes which are 10cmx9.5cmx8cm (about the size of a large chocolate muffin!) which is age appropriate and they will find really 'cool'. Any ideas?  more

Resolved Question: What do you think about a pre- wedding reception brunch in lieu of the traditional reception?

I am getting married in a year and will have the ceremony at an arboretum close to my mom's house. I don't want a big after- party reception, as I am pretty introverted and after getting married in front of a bunch of people, I will be ready to hide. My fiance and I both have a big family, with at least 75 people on the "A" list, which unfortunately cannot be cut any more than it has been. These are my ideas: A pre- wedding brunch where people show up at my mom's house, which has a huge and gorgeous backyard, for a classy tea/ bagel/ scone brunch around 10:00 am (I will have gotten ready earlier in the morning), then off to the arboretum at 12 pm for a 1 pm wedding (the arboretum is 15 min from my house). Then get married, and give people cute cookie favors as they walk out. THEN, after reenergizing my introverted self for a few hours, my mom will host a VERY SMALL (italian) dinner at her house for only immediate family (approx. 25 people consisting of parents, step- parents and siblings) outside with white christmas lights, a small cake and the first dance. This will be a lot like rehersal dinner, which I will not be having. These are my reasons for this plan: Like I said, I am VERY introverted and somewhat shy. I hate dancing in front of people though I would be sad not to have my first dance. My fiance wants a bigger wedding, and at the arboretum for sure (he won't compromise on this as it is his dream wedding spot since childhood). There are many people who have to be invited to the wedding that I am not necessary very close to. I was a cake or cupcakes, but it is too early in the morning for that at 10:30, not to mention we won't be married yet. It seems like a good idea right now to me. My fiance likes the idea as well, as well as my mom. What I want to know is this: Is this crazy?? Any suggestions or words of wisdom? Anyone want to tell me this is a good idea so I can be brave?? I will read and take to heart all comments left. Thanks everyone! Oh, yeah, one more thing. Should I wear the wedding dress during the brunch, or should I wear another cute dress, then change after I get to the arboretum so the groom seeing me for the first time is still special? To you that think I am harming the groom in some way, you didn't read the part where he LIKES HE IDEA! We are having a bigger wedding, just not an over the top reception. Geez, some people need to work on their anger issues. I probably should've added that I don't like traditional receptions and find them stuffy and choking despite all attempts to "customize." I don't want dozens of people staring at me while we have our 1st dance, nor to throw a bouquet, nor have a traditional cake, and I don't care for dancing nor loud music or any other traditional fluff that goes with a reception. I'm doing the wedding to make my fiance happy. He wants to cut cake and we both want a first dance, both of which will happen in an intimate setting with intimate family members watching. The reason I suggested a brunch was b/c it will be nothing like a reception, & I will still be able to feed my guests, which I find important. I dread having to perform and be watched on my wedding day, waiting for people to leave so I can be alone with my family & be able to breathe. I enjoy regular parties like brunches & dinner. I ask you all b/c I would like feedback. I value your opinion, but I'm not a conformist. I'm just different. :)  more

Open Question: Do you like this favor idea?

I am having a garden wedding. For favors I was going to do wildflower seed packets but where I live it is really windy and I thought they would fly away. So I decided to do tiny/small glass jars with clamp lids. My new thought was to put some bath salts and a little lavender in it. Something different and something people (well girls) might actually use. Any thoughts?  more

Open Question: ideas for a cinema theme for our wedding?

we are thinking of having a cinema themed wedding reception, as we met whilst working at the cinema. We were thinking of naming the tables after films that were out the week we got together, funnily enough one of those films was called just married, so that could be the top table. Does anyone else have any suggestions as to what we could do? like for favours and things? any help is much appreciated. Thank you  more

Open Question: Do you think that this is a cute idea for wedding favors/table settings?

Our theme has yellow and dark blue (our two favorite colors, his blue, mine yellow). Anyway, in my bouquet there will be sunflowers, I LOVE sunflowers so there was no question about that. I'm on a budget, so I was thinking something creative for the centerpieces. I collect colored glass vases, have been since I was around twelve, and I have a TON of them all over the house, more than thirty extra that I can lend to the decorations, or just get them all on the table. But there are yellow ones, red ones, blue ones, or just clear ones with neat designs all from thrift stores. Anyway, I was thinking of putting sunflowers in the vases and scattering the different vases on tables with small candles, so the light goes through that. I was also thinking that they might be cute favors? Just so that I wouldn't have to deal with getting all the vases up again truthfully. Also what I was thinking for favors, is getting sunflower seeds in those brown seed bags and tying them with a ribbon that says our names and date. What do you think? My ceremony is on the beach and is very earthy and might I even say "Hippie". =]  more

Open Question: What should I do for wedding favors?

I'm really confused for what I should do for our wedding favors. We don't really have a theme but our colors are dark brown, tiffany blue, and a medium pink. The guest book I have picked out has some small flowers on it with rhinestones in the center with some scrolling. My dress also has flowers on it that go with the guest book. I want creative favors that would go with the overall feel of the wedding but I don't know what to do. I don't want the typical candy box or mint tins. Any ideas or websites that people found helpful? Thanks you guys for the awesome ideas!! I'm going to run them by my fiance and see what he thinks! :)  more

Open Question: Help with my barbie sweet 16 partay!? (:?

Hi! I'm turning sixteen in less then three months and we've been planning this party for at least 3 months now. it's going to be at a venue at the hilton with a roon (all glass windows) overlooking the ocean. the color scheme is hot pink black and accented with white and silver. my entrance is going to be me walking into tik tok by kesha and i will be singing it while my closest friends are dancing a dance i choreographed. i still think my entrance might need a little more tho. any ideas? the tables will be decorated with white table clothes and black overlays with pink sequins, etc layed accross them the center pieces will be different barbies (ex: beach barbie on a base with sand and shells then down to the uniform pink/black base all have). i think my moms also getting custom candy bars made to put on the tables. the center of the venue is the dance floor and i think i need something to kind of play this up other then empty space. any idea? in the same allignment as the dance floor will be the dj and my cake on a light up table. the cake will be like a wedding cake but made to fit the theme. after the intro everyone will be able to get food which includes mini burgers, mini hotdogs, fries, sweet potatoe fries, chicken nuggets, etc. i wanted to stick with a mini BARBIE Q food theme. there will also be the normal beverages and special pink lemonade as my special barbie drink. after eating and maybe dancing a little i will do my father daughter dance to "butterfly kisses" and "the hustle" mixed and then my friends and i will perform a coupled dance to "barbie girl". i will then light the 16 candles with my close people. its the whole tradition thing where u call up people who are important to you. we are making a candelabra because my mom used to do party stuff. it will be black and pink feathers then mirror then glittery black then pink letters spelling out my name and silver candles. after that we will do the cake and i will cut the cake to "sugar sugar". after that everyone will pretty much be free to dance all night. other details include there will be a candy and ice cream bar and they will be decorated with zebra table clothes and black overlays with a pink bottom with pink stuff on top. the guests will be allowed to take candy home as a favor. is there anything else i could do favor wise? oh and finally i have my design for invites but i want something special with them. like something touchable other then a piece of paper to say ur gonna have an awesome night. one girl ik is giving out masks for a masqurade. i dont want to ask my parents to buy 100 barbies but just something. i also wanted to get "barbie" to hand them out but that might be considered "distracting" at school so how would i do that? thanks in advance i didnt ask you to judge my family's prosperity. were not rich. most of these things are already set in stone the only things i need help with is maybe something i can give out with my invite and a cool way to do it @gotoitalyforloveandlife thanks for not being rude about it. the big sweet 16 is more of a family tradition.  more

Voting Question: Should I be upset about not getting asked to be a bridesmaid?

Ok, please don't send me a bunch of responses about how it's my friend's wedding, so I should just accept her choice, etc. I get that already. It's not so much the not getting asked part that I mind, but rather, the circumstances surrounding it. I've been friends with this girl for years, and I thought we were really close. She even introduces me to people as her "sister" and rang me straight after her fiance proposed. I have always gone by the philosophy that you don't assume you're a bridesmaid unless you have been asked, and I knew there was a chance she would only have 2 - her sister, and another friend she also introduces as her sister, but I do honestly feel I was led to believe that she was going to have 3, and that I would be asked. She made it really clear that she wanted me involved in organising the wedding, and we even planned to go to a bridal expo as a group. I think the first blow was HOW I found out I wasn't being asked. I was with the bride-to-be and her other close friend, and we ran into a mutual friend. We mentioned we were organising stuff for the wedding, and the mutual friend asked the bride-to-be if we were the bridesmaids to which the response was that the other girl was a bridesmaid, and I was the "wedding planner." I felt so crushed, but I had to act casual and not show how hurt I was. Things got worse when I found out that there WILL be 3 bridesmaids. That wasn't what upset me. The thing was, the other girl who was asked hates the idea of marriage - she didn't even congratulate the bride-to-be when she became engaged, because she saw it as being anti-feminist. She refuses to get involved in helping organise anything for the wedding, and is completely negative whenever the bride-to-be asks her opinion, eg about what style/colour bridesmaid dress she'd like to wear. I don't understand why she'd even agree to be bridesmaid if that's her attitude. She acts like she's begrudgingly doing the bride some huge favour, rather than acting like she's been given a huge honour. The last thing that upset me is that after I found all this out, my friend wanted to talk, and told me she hoped I wasn't upset. She was really apologetic, and said she only asked the other girl because she knew she'd "never have forgiven her" if she hadn't been asked. She told me she still wanted me involved in the wedding and that I'd be there front-and-centre and not miss anything on the day. Of course, I tried not to let her know how hurt I was, and told her not to worry, that it was her choice, etc, and she kept saying she wanted me to know how important Iam to her. I really appreciate that she took the time to talk to be about it, but somehow what she said only made me feel worse. So my questions are: -Do I have the right to be upset? -Should I have told my friend how I really feel? Also, my friend kept saying how she still wants me involved, but I now feel like I'm intruding, since I'm not a bridesmaid, and I know that helping her plan her wedding is going to really hurt knowing that on her big day I won't be able to help her get ready, etc, but I still want to be there for her if she wants me. What should I do? Also, I get that customarily, you don't make a point of telling people they're NOT a bridesmaid, but I wish I'd found out a better way. If the tables had been turned, I would have at least mentioned in conversation that I'd asked such-and-such to be my bridesmaids, so people knew, rather than leaving them hanging...  more

Resolved Question: help with sister in law?

hey guys....so the problem started when i became girlfriends with my boyfriend. my sister in law, Laura, which was his (my bf) brother's girlfriend ("was" because now they are married) well she started to act weird when my boyfriend took me home.. at the beginning i thought she was just shy.. but then she started to act really aggressive like she wouldnt talk to me or say hi to me or anything. my boyfriend says she is jealous of me cuz everybody says im cooler, prettier and more fashionable than her.... i thought things were gonna get better as time passed by.. like i would be really nice to her and try to bond with her but she just kept being less than small talks with me... she married my "brother in law".. the week of the wedding i wanted to be with her and you know, help her with details etc.. but she was really mean,, so mean i ended up helping my "brother in law" with my boyfriend to get dressed for the wedding along with his guy friends (WEIRD, I know! lol).... two days before the wedding there was a dinner... i sat next to her and i was like: hiii, you look so pretty.... and she just looked at me really awful and she said between her teeth like: you look really gorgeous.... she kept ignoring me the entire night and wouldnt let me sit next to her after she got married she saw me at the party and i was like: congrats!!!! im so happy for you guys......and she got serious and was like: your dress is really "sparkly"....... (by the way, the dress was red) ..... during the night i tried to share the joy with her but she kept ignoring me and then yelled at me to "f$$^$ck off"... my boyfriend said she was jealous and angry everybody like what i was wearing and that they said i looked like a "princess".. well now the married couple lives with my boyfriend and my in laws and Laura doesnt act like a married woman,,, she is taking advantage that she doesnt have to do any house chore...she even goes inside my boyfriend's room without knocking and ask him to do favors for her,,,,,my boyfriend is such a beautiful human being that he doesnt have the heart to tell her to f%^&%^ck off and ask her husband to get her whatever it is that she wants now i dont care if she treats me like trash.... but i certainly do not like her to use my future husband as her employee..it irritates me when he calls me and tells me she woke him up at 1:00am and asked him to get out of the house to buy her something at a store .... i wanna tell her to back off and act like a married responsible adult who can resolve things on her own or with her husband but i dont want to shake things around the house and cause troubles... any ideas? thanks  more

Resolved Question: Picked out our colors, found a theme and cake.. but we have no idea what to do for favors?

The cake can be seen here: http://blog.pinkcakebox.com/montel-carlo-wedding-cake-2010-06-06.htm That also shows our colors- red, black, white, with silver accents. The 'Lucky in Love' at the top of the cake we are unsure of. We want other ideas. Please include links as well. Thanks!  more

Resolved Question: Wedding Planning Thoughts and Ideas?

Hello.... I am planning an outdoor wedding in June next summer in Michigan. I know the weather can be unpredictable especially in Michigan, but I figure if it rains we'll dance in the rain. Our colors are purple and orange. Not a bright purple or orange, but kind of a muted softer purple and orange. If you think of a better combination then let me know! Or if you think it won't look good together. Since it's going to be an outdoor wedding and reception, I really like the idea of adding little Asian touches to it. But I'm torn on some things. Instead of my bridesmaids carrying bouquets down the aisle I was think of hand fans or maybe even parasols. I am going to have orange orchids in simple tall rectangle vases as the centerpieces. I don't want to go over board because the landscaping already adds a lot to the site. We'll have a 40x80 banquet tent with colored paper lanterns hanging to add color and a little bit more of an Asian theme. Also, I am wondering about favors. I want to give something cool to my guests, something that they will think is just awesome! Do you have any ideas or suggestions? Maybe chopsticks? Fortune cookies? I was also planning on having a sushi platter. I don't like it but it would be a surprise for my husband to be! He loves it!  more

Resolved Question: Bridal Shower Gift Ideas?

I was wondering what people have used or if you have any ideas to use as prizes for the people who win the Bridal Shower games (Not sure what games we are playing just yet). The shower doesn't really have a theme, but the colors of it will be a hot pink/fuschia and orange (with maybe some hints of yellow). For their honeymoon, they will be going on a cruise (where they got engaged as well). The two both love video games. If you need any other details please ask. I'm just looking for some general ideas though, and looking for practical ones too, ones that people might actually use or appreciate. Ad favors, I'm making cookies in the shape of wedding dresses and wedding cakes and decorating them myself (I'm a baking and pastry arts graduate so everyone is always saying I should bake something).  more

Resolved Question: Is this toast ok for my moms wedding? I've gotten some ideas from a few people.?

Voting Question: Halloween Wedding Help?

I post a few questons like this a while ago, but im just looking for new websites to check out to help me with decorations and what not. And any ideas for decore/favors. (it is a costume wedding being held at fear farm on 10-31-10, NO RUDE COMMENTS are needed. thank you) this is my wedding dress, and im getting airbrush make up like a babydoll. My fiance is being Freddy http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://is10.eporia.com/company_1001/624135.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.goodgoth.com/allure-tulle-gown.htm&usg=__OdkVdgQfB9tXYEfTxu36LDhKefI=&h=650&w=465&sz=124&hl=en&start=13&um=1&itbs=1&tbnid=thQfMpC17djVSM:&tbnh=137&tbnw=98&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dquinceanera%2Bgothic%2Bdresses%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN%26tbs%3Disch:1 It is being held outside, at night, at the place i work in the fall (fear farm) it has haunted houses and such. Resolved Question: What is soemthing good to put in custom shot glasses for wedding favors?

So everyone (well, the adults) are getting these shot glasses as wedding favors from us, custom imprinted with the mongram I created for us and our wedding date, etc. (only factory picture available as I havent received ours yet, so my monogram is not pictured): http://www.discountmugs.com/nc/personalized-glassware/137/2oz-custom-printed-square-shot-glasses.htm ours are purple by the way... Anyway, we were trying to decide how to present them on the table. Our tables are pretty elegant, dark purple table linens with tower vases full of purple roses, orange tiger lillies, and bursts of other flowers along with some vines hanging as well, and candles all around the base in different shades of purple and different sizes. Would putting one flower in each of them look good as a way to present them? And each stem would have a tag saying thank you, our wedding date, etc. Or should It have candy in each one of some type? I really like the one flower in each one, which would be a silk flower to also be kept as a keepsake although I see about half of them being left on the table. Any ideas of something else we could include? Also, what type of glass should I put our signature cocktail in for those entering the receptin? is it okay to use plastic champaigne glasses that are disposable? because we dont have a caterer to provide real glasses and I dont know what I would do with 200 wine glasses after it was all over! we only have this signature drink for our cocktail hour because a friend of ours created it for us and is our bartender for that night. Thanks for any ideas! Here is an example of our wedding flowers, we are using silk flowers because they are cheaper and easier to do ourselves (my moms profession is doing silk flowers for weddings, etc) http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2067674&id=1151372300&ref=mf#!/photo.php?pid=1449594&id=1151372300 http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2067674&id=1151372300&ref=mf#!/photo.php?pid=1449596&id=1151372300&fbid=1496701254774  more

Resolved Question: I am having a beach themed wedding next summer...?

I am looking for ideas. We are making our own invitations (message in a bottle) and we are going to be doing our own centerpieces (sand/water/shells/floating candles). We decided that since we are doing a theme, we wouldn't necessarily stick with a color theme but want to incorporate ocean colors - blues, greens and tan/beige neutrals. What flowers for bouquets would you suggest? What about favors? What other decorations would work? I just don't know where to start!!  more

Resolved Question: Would it be okay to do the place cards now? what else to do? rehearsal dinner?

So just want to get stuff done for my wedding so i can put it out of the way, I hate feeling rushed and have this feeling if i wait to do alot of these things i might mess up. My centre pieces can not be done until the week before the wedding because we are using real trees, and I don't want them to die ( the purpose is to later plant them at my fiances parents lot on the lake, or whoever wants to take one home to plant can!) so I will have that to do the seat chart, finishing putting together the favours ( homemade wine, and cookies) and everything else there is just before the wedding, I feel that september is going to be so filled up with last minute stuff I was wondering if its an okay idea to make all the place cards now for everyone on my guest list? I know most of the people on the guest list are coming ( they are already making hotel arrangements and are all really close family). I also don't know what else i need to do. I have a thing with theknot.com but honestly don't find it helpful with the little things that tie the wedding together, I have all the major things done like photographer, dj, caterer, cake, flowers, and that sort of stuff ( i guess the big important things) but need to know all the little things that tie it all together? Also do i have to plan a Rehearsal dinner? or do we do the rehearsal and just meet up somewhere for dinner? thanks!!!  more

Voting Question: wedding vision opinions ?

So im in the very early stages of planning my wedding but I was looking for a few opinions or ideas on my wedding scheme. My wedding is going to be in early August. My colors are going to be light pink and green with just a little bit of silver. Im not really going to have a theme but the feel should be somewhat fairytail. For the favors, napkins, table card holders, and such im going to have a castle design along with a fleur de lis design. The fleur de lis because my current last name is Fleury. My flower is going to be calla lilys. I was just wondering what people thought about this and if anyone had any suggestions ? Is it too busy ?  more

Resolved Question: Baby shower websites? Help!?

I'm throwing a baby shower for my sister and can't seem to find any good websites to buy favours, decorations, tableware etc. All the ones I've found, such as this http://www.babyshowerhost.co.uk/ are really cheesy and I want something a lot more modern and classy like this http://shop.confetti.co.uk/branch/table-decorations (but baby themed, not wedding themed). Also, I have a few ideas for games/drinks/food but if anyone has some good ideas then I'm all ears! Any help would be great! I'm in the UK btw.  more

Resolved Question: I took a girlfriend for a movie as a birthday gift then left me in the middle part of it?

giving me an excuse she have a major headache then i finally found out on facebook that she just went straight to her friends for drinks where she supposed to take me as well, rude....very very rude! This "friend" almost ruin my wedding where she volunteered to help. She showed up with wedding favors that has nothing to do with my style and theme, then asked me and my husband to reimbursed her. We never asked for any of those, then showed up an hour late on the day of the wedding. She was the team leader of the wedding set-up, i end up re-assigning the task to some of our relatives who have no idea of what to do. I smoothen everything and turned out fine. Then in liue of the money "we owe" her we took her to our "honeymoon" where we also had some friends. I've forgiven her for what she did and out of diplomatic, I told her I'll take out for "a Movie" and then said, "then let's go margaritas after". That day unfortunately I asked the bank to block my debit card for some unwanted charges, i told her the story....but i bought our movie tickets and had 10 bucks left in my purse. She said she wanted a drink, it was like $5.00...ouch! my margarita drink gone. Im not a soda drinker so i told her, I will just have a sip if I need to. In the midst of the movie, I happened to need a sip so I asked her. The cup was placed on her right not in the middle of us. Funny, but right after that she keeps picking up her phone for texts and showing off discomfort. Then I asked her "do you wanna go home?" Thats when she said she had terrible headache and left. That night my husband, checked his facebook and found out her partying soon as she left me. I am so furious, even more , the margarita perty was already plan even before I've offered her a movie. What a bitch, isn't she? How will I go about confronting this free loader? I'm ditching this "friend", but I want to dump her really good!!!!  more

Resolved Question: Blood Red, Burgundy, Gray, and Silver Wedding Decoration help...?

So... A few weeks ago I asked for pictures of burgundy and pink wedding images for my neices wedding. Well, we have decided to take this to the next level and allow my father to help pay for everything. So, the colors are now a combination of Blood Red and Burgundy with subtle hints of Gray and Silver fluttering here and there. OK! We definitely have the wedding colors thought out. But now we are struggling to get pictures of decorations. We have thought out the centerpieces as we will be having white table cloths with a burgundy square of fabric on top of that. Then we will put a square mirror over that and have hurricane vases with blood red rocks on the bottom and filled with water, a blood red rose and a candle and wrap the vase with gray tulle. At the tables there will also be the favors which will be boxes that hold red velvet cakes and topped with a gray tulle pom for additional pops of gray. Should this be gray? Or a different color? What do you think? Well, we pretty much have that handled but have no idea what to do for anything else. What exactly must you decorate for optimal beauty? Please help guys as I am only the aunt and have no idea what to do.  more
