I was going to make a diaper cake for my friends baby shower since my sister made me one and I loved it! But I guess my idea was too good because a 'friend' of mine instantly took the idea as her own. But I'd rather not be petty about it...time to think of a new idea haha. I liked it because it was cheap since I don't have a lot of money.
I have a baby bath that my son used and I was going to make a gift basket using the bath instead of a traditional basket. I also have a car seat toy that he barely used to put in there and some unopened lotions and bath stuff. What other cheap things could I include? Does this sound like a good idea?
What was your favourite shower gift? Thanks :)
I know about the pampers, i've even told her about that :-)
Luvs are not available in Canada and are also made by the same company as Pampers :(

I am throwing a baby shower for my cousin Saturday. I am making her a "baby rump cake". I was wondering if I could bake the cake tonight? I dont want it to be stale come Saturday though. But I would like to get what i can done now. The bottom layer is 12 inches and it will be covered in icing, then there is a smaller round cake on top that is for the diaper. then I am using rice crispie treats for the legs and the feet, then the diaper, legs and feet will be covered in fondant. If I do bake it tonight, should i wait to do the icing and fondant tomorrow, or would it be ok to do it all tonight? What would be the best way to store it? Thanks for any advice or help! This is my first fondant cake and I would it to look great as well as taste great!

moreVoting Question: Names For Diaper Cake Business?
I make Diaper cakes (also diaper wreaths, washcoth cupcakes, lolipops and more) and I'm creating a website for my business. I live in a small town and am just hoping for a small local outreach, nothing big. It's more of a hobby. But I need some feed back on names, Any opinions would be helpful thank you <3 [ Diaper cakes, layered rolled up diapers decorated to look like a wedding cake kinda"]
Treats Too Sweet To Eat
Lil Angel Babycakes
Labor of Love (Might be taken)
BabyBumpkinCakes N' crafts
Sugar (or Sugar mama) Shower crafts
Also any other ideas would be helpful. I've considered Baby Cakes, patty cakes and all of those but would like something a lil unique. Thanks so much!

moreResolved Question: Names for Diaper cake business?
If you don't know what a diaper cake is here is an example, (This is not my website, just an idea for you to see what they look like)
I really like the idea of alliteration with a three word name for my diaper cake business and since they are called "cakes" maybe something to do with a "bakery" or "pastries". I also make washcloth lollipops and candy, diaper wreaths and an assortment of other baby shower crafts,so I don't want it to do strictly with diaper cakes. I've thought of a few but it's sorta difficult to put baby and bakery in the same sentence because it could possibly sound ...morbid or something ..but any opinions on these?
Buddha Belly Bakery
Preggo Princess Pastries
Baby Bump Bakery (Kinda sounds morbid to me, what do you think?)
Country Bumpkin Bakery (I live in the south lol)
Or if you've got any ideas, send em' my way! :)
I don't like cutsie cutsie, I like cute but also something that sounds like an actual name of a business.
Thank you
Thanks guys, Ya'll are right about the bakery signaling...well an actual bakery lol. Maybe something like "Courtney's Babycakes N' Crafts"??? Any ideas to spice that up? My nickname is Corky...Does "Corky's Babycakes N' Crafts "sound better?

moreResolved Question: baby shower questions?
I have just about everything I need for a baby shower I am doing tomorrow. But I have a few simple questions that are bothering me.
- do you open present while eating cake, or do you open presents, then eat cake?
- when you play the "don't cross your legs" game, does the mommy-to-be play too?
- does the mommy to be play any of the games? or is it only for the guests?
- when playing the game of feeding another person some Gerber, do both people from the team that wins win a prize? or just the person who is blind folded and giving the food?
- I made a diaper cake with #1 diapers. but someone told me they look too small. Are they really too small? now I'm all worried about them not fitting. They are supposed to be for a baby 8-14 lbs.
that's it. thanks!!

moreResolved Question: What's wrong with my sister in law?
I'm currently staying at my mum's house with my husband and three week old daughter as it is my brother's birthday, my mum's birthday and my mother in law's birthday this week. My sister in law refuses to let my brother see his niece and is kicking up a fuss about having the birthday party for my mum and my brother at my mum's because my daughter will be there. She's seen my daughter but the moment my daughter woke up and started to cry she threw us out.
She did have a still born baby 5 weeks ago but she was always funny about me being pregnant with a girl first as she has four sons already and really wanted a daughter. She's seen really catty the whole time I was pregnant, I had a baby shower and she slated off my friends, my family and pretty much ruined it for me - I spent an hour of my baby shower locked in the bathroom crying at how horrible she was being. When she had her baby shower she expected expensive gifts from everyone and embarrassed me in front of all her friends because I didn't get her the gift she wanted - I made her a diaper cake and a hamper of baby things like handmade blankets and bibs, wipes, baby shampoo, things like that. She named her daughter Imogen which was a name she always hated (When she found out I wanted to call my daughter Imogen she said it was awful, disgusting and tacky) and it was the name I had planned to call my daughter, my brother had to call me and tell me she had done it and that he couldn't believe she had decided to call their stillborn daughter by the name me and my husband had chosen as it was the name of my husband's grandmother. She was fine until I got pregnant and I really don't know what her problem is.
I'm not criticing her. I offered her help and she threw it back in my face saying she didn't want help off someone like me.

moreResolved Question: Baby Shower Decorations Ideas?
I am trying to think of more ideas for my BFF's baby shower on Saturday. It is my godson so I am going a little over the top. So far I have planned:
alternating blue and white table covers with baby bottles filled with blue and white candies that hold balloons with these little rattles I got propped against it (babies that are about 3 inches tall) and table confetti that says it's a boy.
I also got a banner that says Jenn & Glenn are Having a Boy, Congratulations on you Bundle of Joy. For their table I got a larger rattle (same concept) as well as a baby balloon (to add in with the other balloons) and diaper cake. Above the chairs they will sit while opening gifts I have an umbrella I use cotton balls on the inside to make it look like clouds hanging down over her head?
I am also planning on putting a clothes line across a whole wall to add clothes to when she is opening gifts, that way people can see them clearly.
Anybody got anymore cute, cheaper ideas? Do you think this is enough. I will have spent on decor, invites, and gifts about $400, is that enough for your god baby? I know I will spoil him rotten once he is actually here but I want her to have a really special day. No games though please, we are not game at the shower people. moreVoting Question: How long is too long for a baby shower?
I'm planning a baby shower, and I initially decided on two hours but changed it to 3. Now I'm trying to decide if 3 will be enough. I'm planning on starting the baby shower at 2, and letting it go until 5 or 6. Too long? The person I'm throwing it for LOVES murder mysteries so I have an underlying theme of a murder mystery. The mystery itself is pageant themed, so I'm using that as a cover for the killing. I'm either throwing it at the private room of a restaurant or at a banquet hall (leaning toward this one), so I don't know if this will factor into the time slot. I plan on playing 5 traditional baby games ("poopie" diaper guessing game, baby item tray memory game, baby item pictionary, pin the pacifier on the baby, and "feed the baby", a contest to see who can eat their baby food the fastest.) According to the maker of the murder mystery kit, the mystery itself, along with a party consisting of mingling, eating, drinking, etc., will take 2-3 hours. My timeline is as follows:
1:00 - I'll arrive to begin setting up.
2:00 - Guests will arrive, after every guest shows up, I'll allow (lol) 15 minutes of mingling.
2:15 - Play pin the pacifier on the baby.
2:30 - End above game, begin "poopie" diaper guessing game.
2:45 - End above game, begin baby item tray memory game.
3:00 - End above game, begin "feed the baby".
3:15 - End above game, begin baby item pictionary.
3:30 - End baby item pictionary, begin eating.
4:00 - Stop eating, initiate murder.
Guests will spend 1 hour solving the murder.
5:00 - Open presents and eat cake.
5:30 - Do raffle.
5:45 - Say goodbyes.
6:00 - Clean up until 6:30.

I am not one for parties... even if my family tries to have a cake or something for me I feel guilty about people spending money on me in any way shape or form. My fiance's grandma is a very VERY giving and loving person and she is convinced that I must have a baby shower, and I have given little hints like, "no you don't have to do that." But she is still convinced that I need to have one. She really doesn't have much money... she lives in income based housing, she has section 8, and she works 6 out of 7 days of the week when she is 68 years old. I also don't want a baby shower because I have just about everything I need for the baby already, as well as my mother would like to throw a baby shower for me but my mother is in so much debt that if she were to try and have a shower for me she would more than likely get more behind on bills than she already is and I don't want my mom's feelings hurt. I have all the bedding, the crib, pack and play with a changing table, car seat, plenty of clothes, a breast pump with accessories, bottles, toys, like I said just about everything. I am only missing a swing, hygiene products, diapers.. just little stuff that I want to get on my own. So point being how do I tell her I don't want a shower while being polite?

Also, since i am one of the hosts, do i just put the diaper cake as a centerpiece right away or should i wrap it and give it during gift opening? If I put it as a centerpiece then how am i supposed to say that that is already my gift... I know these questions sounds stupid but i just don't want to be in an awkward situation where it would look like i did not bring any gift... thanks!
moreVoting Question: Should I be upset about this?
My SIL had 6 baby showers for her first child, not to mention all the stuff that my MIL outright stole from my son(I had my son in May of one year, my nephew was born in Sept. of the following year, & my MIL took a BUNCH of my sons things w/o asking). I became unemployed about a month and a half before I had my son, and was scraping by on my savings taking care of my son.
However, I still made a diaper cake w/ all the trimmings(lots of stuff inside & out, individually rolled diapers), an easy to clean exersaucer(as SIL made it very clear that she was going back to work ASAP after she had the baby, & I had learned from my son's intricate one that it was very time consuming to clean all the spit-up off of it & out of all the little crevices), along w/ a sleep sack, some blankets, onesies, etc. which was quite expensive for me, even over a few weeks.
I made the diaper cake for the first shower. I also received an invitation to each of the other showers, as well as indirect demands from SIL and MIL to show up at all these additional showers with gifts(all the while w/ MIL whining about "oh poor SIL- she is so bad off, we need to buy her a bunch of stuff"- SIL, who has a great paying job w/ benefits, 2 cars, a house, and a husband w/ a good job w/ benefits, needs all of this stuff, yet when I had each of my kids I had to scavenge and find them stuff and virtually everything they got I bought myself, and my husband hasn't had a job either time). I gave SIL the other things I bought. The exersaucer sat at our house for months until I finally went and put it in their car on one of their Sunday dinner visits.
I never received a thank you note from my SIL for any of this stuff, nor have I seen their child wear any of the things I bought for him(and we see them pretty often). From what I can tell, they threw the exersaucer out, as I have yet to see it anywhere, and they have another one that they put him in.
MIL also went out on several grand shopping sprees for SIL and her baby. She bought SIL maternity clothes before she even needed them, as well as after. With both of my children, she refused to do any special shopping trips, and I ended up going by myself to get maternity clothes, etc.
With my shower w/ each one, I made sure I made a thank you note for SIL. For my 1st child she didn't bring a gift, & for the second, she bought a couple of sleep sacks & made diaper cake by spreading some diapers in a circular form and wrapping ribbon around.
My mother disowned me due to her mental illness(she said a lot of hurtful & untrue things after my first child passed as an infant from SIDS, then got mad b/c no one would believe the outlandish things she said).
Also SIL is NOT MIL's daughter!!!!!
Also, I didn't give gifts for all the showers- I couldn't afford to. & I got blessed out by MIL & FIL for not doing so.
I'm not jealous, it's just the favoritism in overdrive thing kinda gets me. I just can't see treating one child's spouse that much above the other. MIL actually turned what was supposed to be a shopping trip for a much needed dress for me(I needed a dress for my bridal shower, & did not own a stitch of clothing at the time that fit me that wasn't jogging pants & a t-shirt) into a 5 hour shopping trip for just her & SIL(they spent 3 hours shopping for maternity clothes for SIL, then spent 2 hours shopping for a new cell phone for MIL, ignoring me & leaving me to walk around the mall w/ my then 10 mo. old son, who would scream every time the stroller stopped, then was like "we're going home now"- not even an apology).

My husband says I save too much of my son's. Here is what is in the box:
ultrasounds
baby blanket (The one he and I were both brought home in)
crib card and hospital bracelets
hospital hat and outfit we brought him home in
first chirstmas and thanksgiving outfits
birth announcement
newborn diaper(not used)
baby shoes (cast in silver plate) and socks
booties and bib that i made for him
bible from christening and christening suit (also heirlooms)
birthday cards, invite, and party hat from 1st birthday
cake toppers from baby shower and first birthday
first tooth and curl holders
silver spoon, cup, porriger and rattle
letters I wrote him
photo albums with a photo from each month
It's all in a nice box with trays and dividers my dad made for him, so it's not everywhere. Is it really too much? What did you save?
The spoon, cup, and rattle are real silver, and heirlooms. They aren't just plastic.

moreResolved Question: Baby shower question?
Hi Ladies,
I know this doesnt really belong here, but everyone has been so helpful with everything else, and there isnt a place for baby shower questions. Anyway, here goes.
My husband's cousin (my cousin now too right?) lol. anyway, she is having a baby shower next weekend. I am helping host this shower, and by helping I mean, I am going in some on the food, bought some decorations, and invites, and will help serve food.
I also have made her one of those really cute diaper cakes, and Im making her actual cake, the one that looks like a pregnant belly. My question is, with doing everything and making that should I still get her a present?? Or are those the presents?
I've never been to a baby shower, or even co-hosted a shower before so I don't know what to do. Can any of you please give me some advise?
Thanks everyone!
if you dont know what a diaper cake is, this link will show you what im making.
http://www.cutest-baby-shower-ideas.com/winnie-the-pooh-diaper-cake.html
I'm just curious.. I posted this in another section and keep getting answers telling me to get her something else.
I dont understand why the diaper cake isnt enough? I mean the materials and everything from diapers, to toys, bibs, passy's, shampoo, diaper cream, and powder cost well over $50. I mean its like if I would have just put all that stuff into a bag and said here ya go, here is your present that would be ok. But since I'm making the cake Ishould still get something else.
Im not trying to be a bi**h but I just really dont understand.
Thanks!
moreVoting Question: would you be offended by this behavior(long)?
my sil had 6 baby showers for the same pregnancy. she invited me to everyone of them and expected me to show up w/ a gift to all of them(my husband and i are unemployed, and we have an 18 mo. old, and up until very recently were living w/ mil-she decided to move herself, fil,and gmil into one apt. and move us into another- in an effort to sell the house). i bought her an exersaucer(which was left at mil's & our house for months), a sleep sack, a blanket, and made her a diaper cake w/ all the trimmings, which practically broke us for a few weeks.
even after this, she continued to invite me to the showers(there were 5 more after this), knowing i & my husband were out of work & struggling(sil & bil, my husbands brother, both have great jobs w/ benefits & insurance, own their own house, have 2 cars, & the extra cash to go out to a nice dinner every night). not only this, but mil started coming after me to go & get more gifts also, along w/ taking my sons things w/o asking(which i was holding onto for his siblings as we cannot afford to go out & buy new each time, not to mention bil & sil are notorious for either losing things they borrow or their dog destroys it).
i have yet to even receive a thank you note from them, not to mention sil has been going out of her way to act like she is a better mom when she quit breastfeeding so she could drink when ever she wanted, along w/ she barely feeds her child(maybe 1 4 oz. bottle every4 hours, & the rest of the time shoves a pacifier in his face), refuses to get up w/ him in the night, leaves him w/ her dad during the day from 7 am until 7pm(she wanted my husband & i to do this every day including weekends & nights for free-not even kidding), & stayed gone for 2 weekends in a row before her son was barely a month old-not business related either, she wanted to go off & hang out 3 hours away w/ her friends. just dropped the baby on bil, & ran out the door. she also acts like she is the greatest thing since sliced bread b/c she leaves her less than 2 mo. old baby to scream himself to sleep in the room down the hall(they have a double risk of SIDS as sil lost a younger sister to SIDS, & bil lost a niece-our daughter- to SIDS) & that is a major risk factor along w/ the no breastfeeding, along w/ the losses on both sides.
i understand parenting styles differ, & breastfeeding is a choice, but i feel she is putting her child in danger for her own selfish wants. she actually had the gall to act like i was wrong for breastfeeding my son & told me in a very condescending tone that i should bottle feed my next child b/c it was better.
i think the main thing that bothers me also w/ this is that mil(who was all over me like a rash every hour of every day w/ both of my children, who if my child cried looked(& still looks) at me like i was the worst mother ever & who bitched me out for leaving my child to go shopping by myself for 1 hour for christmas when my child was 7 mos. old, when i had not gone anywhere w/o my son since he was born & when i tell my son no) doesn't care. sil is her favorite, & can do no wrong(she shows blatant favoritism to her, like ridiculously blatent-blowing off needed shopping i have asked her to help me w/ where she knows i'm paying to go shopping w/ sil & buy her stuff, then complains that i dont involve her enough).
sil and mil also made planning my wedding this past june an absolute nightmare. mil made me make sil a bm, then started demanding that she be moh. when i said no(as i wanted my sisters for moh's) and explained why, i got run through the ringer for the next several months, along w/ sil and mil scamming behind my back to get sil a new dress that looked nothing like the other bridesmaids(she wanted a really short low cut non maternity dress and my bridesmaids dresses were tea length, and had a halter neckline that covered everyone) so she could look like the moh 2 weeks before the wedding, demanding that she get the dress that she wanted even after i found her a really nice and really cheap maternity semi formal gown that looked like the other bm's dresses. i finally had my husband tell mil that i had had it, and it was either she get the dress i specified, or that was it, she was out of the wedding(this was after months of her and mil fighting me tooth and nail on every last detail of everything; mil didn't like the wedding dh & i could afford, so she went out & paid for all this other stuff w/o asking, then got mad & complained about having spent the money, then came after me about it, & sent fil to chew me out too). she never did any of the things bm's are supposed to do(like send out hen night & bridal shower invites) & wouldn't let any of my other bm's do anything. she went out & bought a bunch of food that was for the most part for bil's party the next day, & charged my other bm's for it all, saying it was for my bridal shower after she didn't send out almost all of the invitations(she sent 2 out of 40), & wouldn't give th
e others a list & allow the other bm's to pick up items when they went grocery shopping(one bm was basically a single mom, the other had a niece in the nicu at the time)
w/ both my baby showers, i made sure she received a thank you note before the baby was born(both my showers were at 7 mos. pregnant). for both my bridal shower & my wedding she got a thank you note promptly(in the case of my bridal shower i handmade her a really nice card, & thanked her extensively, & got chewed out massively by fil for that as well, as it wasn't enough apparently).
would you also be offended by mil's behavior? i feel like it isnt right for her to show such blatent favoritism(looking at this from a future mil perspective- i have a son, and he will have a sibling at some point as well, and i cannot see showing that much favoritism towards one spouse and such disdain towards the other).
i guess i am asking as a person observing this situation, would you think the mil's behavior of being so dismissive of the one dil but so hung up on the other one and acting like she was in hs and shunning the other dil w/ the other son's wife is ok, or would you think that it is really offensive also in addition to the sil's behavior? would you expect the mil to step in and say something to the sil, or to side w/ the sil?
i am trying to get other peoples insight here as i am the only one it seems in my little bubble that seems to see a problem w/ sil's behavior or for that matter mil and/or fil's behavior as well. my husband got so that when we were still living in the house he wouldnt leave me alone w/ them b/c they would come after me and verbally attack me and i would end up in tears. they have continued this when they come to the apt. and my husband steps outside to have a smoke.
if i say anything back, they flip it around and say that i attacked them to everyone in the family. mil has been lying to all of them for years, and has been telling all of the family that i do nothing and she is raising my son for me(which isnt true in the least- i take care of my son 24/7 pretty much unless i get a rare time to go out w/ my friends and then my husband is watching him).
mil has also been trying to wrap dh up in her lies as well, and he really doesnt like it.
i don't have anyone from my own family around me to ask, so i am trying to get some outside imput.

I usually do a large beautiful diaper cake but money is tight and the shower is for my step cousin in-law...so not a close family member. moreResolved Question: diaper and belly cake prices.?
Hi again, Yes I am posting this question again in hopes that I will get more answers. So thanks in advance..
HI EVERYONE!! I posted another post a little while ago, and then did some more research on the prices.. If you would like to look at the pictures to give better feedback then here is the link.
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;…
if that doesn't work, its the one that is called how much would you pay for these?
Anyway got some great answers and this is what I have come up with for prices..
For the belly cake (which this time I will be taking my time on lol) $ 30. and here is the prices...
butter-6 ( i know 6 for freaking unsalted butter!! A rip off)
eggs-2
flour- 2
conf sugar- 4
marshmallows-2
sugar-1
crisco- 2
which comes to $19, and things like butter I only buy when Im making cakes, same with sugar, crisco, and things.. So that makes me $11 off the cake, that is unless something comes up and I need more supplies..
Diaper cake..
wipes-4
diapers-15 for 132
rubber bands- 1
baby powder- 4
baby wash- 5
ribbon- 5
toy on top-14
which is $48, and if you wanted it wrapped in tulle with front exposed extra $5.
So I was thinking $60 for that, and again, this time, I will be taking my time.. lol.. My 1st runs of things, I just try and throw together. which only makes me 12 off it.
So my question, do you think these prices are ok?? Im making this for a lady I know, she is doing a shower for someone, and has seen the cakes I have made. I'm not doing this as a business, as one lady did point out, and was a great point, its just something I doing for someone. I usually only do them for people I know, so I have never charged.
