Open Question: Is it becoming clear that many cons on this site do not understand what institutional racism is?

For the most part, when minorities act against racism, they are not talking about individual racism as some cons exhibit here every day. They are acting against INSTITUTIONAL racism. Do you guys even know what that means? It means that many of the institutions of our country--be it educational, prison, justice, corporations, media, etc.--have inherent racism to one degree or another. It does not mean that these institutions are purposely racist, but that the legacy of hundreds of years of racism has filtered into these institutions over the years. Racist cons think that everyone is calling THEM a racist, so they strike back with "Blacks are more racist than whites." In reality, minorities are calling INSTITUTIONS racist and trying to bring these issues to the foreground so they can be addressed. If you don't think we have racism in our institutions, contemplate whether you would want your children to attend the type of schools that poor children are forced to attend or if you would want your white teenage son to be subjected to the same treatment that black teenage sons are subjected to.  more

Open Question: Maya Edu version requires school issued email address?

I tried to sign up the AutoDesk Maya educational community to get the Edu version of Maya, but after giving it my Gmail, it says I need a school issued email address. Well my school doesn't give out email addresses for students or even faculty. Is there a workaround to this? I really need it, since I'll be using Maya in school once it starts up again in the fall.  more

Resolved Question: Who can edit this essay?

Stepping onto Middle School Evolving in a dominantly Filipino environment where everyone pursued the motto of education prioritization, my fellow classmates demonstrated aspects of intelligence and consideration. Since everyone endeavored conformity, it was effortless for us to adhere with one another. After a series of altering residences, my serene family settled in the current location we live today where I transferred to the neighboring elementary school by default. During my youth, children were naturally keen to become acquainted with new people so no social issues applied then. However, since I yearned for my former elementary school classmates, I switched schools a year later to graduate with my comrades. Due to transportation issues, I moved to my neighboring middle school permanently that initiated a new life with unfamiliar people and unaccustomed surroundings. Little did I know that this miniscule alteration could create such a peculiar challenge to my life. Transitioning from elementary to middle school was arduous for me as I underwent changes through people, maturity, and independence. When I first stepped onto the hallways of Aiea Intermediate School, the experience felt as if I disembarked off a plane onto an alien nation without prior knowledge of their language and culture. From the diversity of students of my new educational institution, it was rather troublesome to fit in and communicate with them. Without the amenity of talking to anybody, I gained the irreversible mental state of bashfulness that lurked me through middle school. Bringing my puerile mentality to middle school wasn't intelligible as people often associated me as a “dork” or “nerd” in contrast to noticing my astute mind that my former elementary classmates saw in me. Back in elementary school, my mother would constantly be involved in my social and educational life and frequently question the assignments I was committed to or the type of people I was with. Due to my maturity through my progression to a teenager, I had do handle my school responsibilities independently. Surrounding alienated humans was a provocation that I had to acclimate in order to approach prosperity. Adapting to meeting new people in an eccentric environment without critical support was a challenge that my transition from elementary to middle school demanded me. As no one knew me to a personal basis, I transformed into a taciturn individual with the predicament to adjust due to my decreased interpersonal communication skills. Fundamentally, I inaugurated my life to meet new people and contrive a revolution in personality to blend in this contemporary environment. Gradually, I adapted to new tastes in hip hop music and humanized television shows that typically parted with maturity. Furthermore, there were no acquaintances that I could consult whenever someone threw scandalous remarks towards me. Unquestionably, I may have just confronted either my parents of my counselor but I stamped self-determination into me to acknowledge my advancement as an individual. Through the augmentation of my mental strength, I handled people's insults and attaining the most important lesson in middle school simply by ignoring them and continuing my life. With my life in my hands, I had to be in control of my actions and decision-making to steer to the direction of success. Now that my burdensome path of stepping onto a new life had passed, I feel that this was a stupendous high school preparation for me. I didn't suffer any difficulties as a high school freshman as it upheld my renowned life. At one viewpoint, I had ample friends to from academic trepidations through reposing conversations. My peers eventually began to acknowledge my abilities and tolerated me as a normal high school student. With development, my childish optimistic personality altered to a teenage pessimistic one while being prepared to react to teenagers to fit right into my people. Although my sanguine thoughts diminish temporarily at school, my bright life resumes with the ruckus of having two active siblings at home for me to illuminate my day. Despite my mentality to adhere to my heritage goal of laborious studying, I earned the right to do what I want in my high school career. I became a better person with the ability to handle my own problems and journeyed to the next level to resolve dilemmas of others. With problems that lay ahead of me, I am contended that my middle school background taught me to mingle with new people, handle a new age group, and obtain independence that I can use as life skills to bring with me to college and beyond. With every step in life, there are always challenges that run though the life cycle. As I evolve in the future, I will once again stage in a new environment with a diverse span of people to congregate with. My middle school memories may prevent or cure life change discomfort in the future. Life doesn't t  more

As per Bank's rule, Penalty for premature FD Closure is 0.5% on the interest earned. 2. I have been asking Bank but no answer is given to me yet. Thanks in advance..... Vijay  more

Resolved Question: In my twenties and clueless about future? Advice?

I'm in my early twenties and working as an educational research assistant for the past year or so but I don't see my future in teaching. I could always take up teaching, but I'm not sure I have the passion to do it or anything else in life. I guess what I want to address is that I'm just scared I will make the wrong decision and end up doing something I'm not good at or best suited for. Because as I see it there are so many different things I could get into. I'm kinda like a jack of all trades and master of none. Currently, I just want to work and earn money, but I'm being pushed by my well-wishers to think about my future and where I'd like to be 5 years down the road. I discovered I don't like competitive environments and I want to take life slow as I've been working since I graduated so haven't had much "me" time. And I wouldn't want to work in desk-bound jobs but jobs that are desk-bound and increasingly hard to come by. I need movement and dynamism. A little more background: I was pushed into doing a University course that I don't like (Communication and Psychology) while I was really interested in the Sciences, specifically chemistry. But money's been an issue for me and I don't want to spend more money doing another Bachelor's and starting from scratch. So I guess my question is do I do something, anything to get by in life and what could I do to get rid of this fear that I'll enter the wrong profession?  more

Resolved Question: How would you persuade non-readers to read? 40% of Americans read 1 book a year, or less!!?

Let's say you were heading a new marketing effort to encourage people (not necessarily Americans, but the data I cited concerns Americans only). Or you are part of a committee devising a campaign for TV, radio, newspaper, magazines, and the web. What themes would you use to drive home your most important points? What images, or headlines, or values might you reference to dramatize the significance of this issue? You can pretend you're with a book publishing company, an educational institution, a government agency, or some other private or public institution that would have a vested interest in promoting reading.  more

Voting Question: Would it be harmful to society to expose my philosophy to the public?

I have attained the ability to live as I want while beig able to fully express my philosophy which many regard as controversial without damaging my personal quality of life in any way I find consequaential. That being said my philosophy is largely based on the principals of Ragner Redbeard's "Might is Right". The whole of human hisotry would indicate that conflict and war have provided both evolution and nearly every single advantage every achieved by humankind. As this book has only recently put back in print and is not what you'd call a "major interest" among publishers I should probably give you a few examples of what I mean. I find conflict of any kind to be educational and a useful evolutionary tool regarding the progress of mankind. I view charity as harmful to society when issues of a medical nature do not define the 'need' involved. I feel that it is 'rude' to offer to pray for someone especially if you are aware they are of a different religion. To me it is personally offensive that anyone who lacks perspective on a particular situation would offer their opinion of what to do. Hopefully these positions will indicate my views regarding other unmentioned aspects of my philosophy. I personally feel that we're all getting soft and that no one is holding anyone accountable for anything anymore in regards to the harm caused by some who refuse to take responsiblity for their actions in an "anything goes" world. People say that life is short but I feel that this quote applies such as much to living life the way I do as it does to their situation. I simply have too much regard for society not to take them into account while making this decision. What do you think? -Alice  more

Resolved Question: What education opportunities are open to military spouses?

I am a recent graduate (BA) and newlywed to an active duty Army officer. I studied languages and political science in college - and enjoyed it - but I have absolutely no interest in a career in politics or semi-political government work. Plus, my husband's (and my) future is in farming. Rural. I have done some Googling, but it's pretty hard to find any concrete answers about spouse educational opportunities. I would love to get my teaching degree or simply take more classes in creative writing (my dream job would be writing on our farm; I am motivated, interested, and I believe talented (and humble!)) Money is the issue. I've got the time. What opportunities are available to me, if any? Is there an office (particular to the Army) designed for these questions? To answer your question, at one point I was interested in a career in politics - back when I was naive and thought I could pleasantly raise a family that way. Even after I realized I didn't want that lifestyle, I was also brainwashed by hippies to believe that I should study something I'm interested in, rather than something useful for a future career.  more

Resolved Question: Where to move to in Canada?

Well it's that time in my life to start another chapter. I've lived in Merritt BC, Saint John NB, various places in NWT and Nunavut, Montreal QC and Kingston ON. I've also visited several other cities and towns across this great country. Now to my question... Where should I move to next? I can do my education online so no limitations there, I have no attachments to any specific place either. I am however limited a bit due to my limited educational background being some college (CEGEP in Montreal). I would be sorta starting out fresh with nothing more than a few suit cases/boxes so set-up is also a factor (gotta love Ikea lol). So basically I want a place where the cost of living is lower and where someone with my educational background can get a decent paying job (I don't need one that will allow me to go nuts and buy a Ferrari but I don't want to constantly feel like I'm struggling either). Weather also isn't an issue for me since I lived in the arctic for many years (so the prairies are ok). I remember once seeing a house for rent (full house, not just a room) in Winnipeg a few years back for $500/month but of course times have changed since. So where would you suggest and why? Please don't just give some 3 word answer like "Toronto jst cuz"... If you're going to suggest Toronto (don't ask why I'm saying TO in my example, it's just the first place that came to mind) then give a real reason for it. Thanks!!!!!  more

Resolved Question: What do you think of all these Organizations, Officials React to Federal Lawsuit?

Here you'll find comments by advocacy groups, elected officials and others regarding the U.S. Department of Justice's filing of a lawsuit challenging Arizona's immigration enforcement law. Read Senate Bill 1070 » Read the Justice Department's lawsuit » -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "As a direct result of failed and inconsistent federal enforcement, Arizona is under attack from violent Mexican drug and immigrant smuggling cartels. Now, Arizona is under attack in federal court from President Obama and his Department of Justice." — Gov. Jan Brewer. "Arizonans are understandably frustrated with illegal immigration, and the federal government has a responsibility to comprehensively address those concerns. But diverting federal resources away from dangerous aliens such as terrorism suspects and aliens with criminal records will impact the entire country's safety. " — U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder. "The Obama Administration has not done everything it can do to protect the people of Arizona from the violence and crime illegal immigration brings to our state. Until it does, the federal government should not be suing Arizona on the grounds that immigration enforcement is solely a federal responsibility." — U.S. Sens. Jon Kyl and John McCain, R-Ariz. "It is disappointing to see the federal government choosing to intervene in a state statute instead of working with Arizona to create sustainable solutions to the illegal immigration issue that our state and country so desperately need." — Arizona Attorney General Terry Goddard. "Gov. Jan Brewer cannot be permitted to pervert federal policy priorities and obstruct national progress all in the name of political pandering." — Thomas A. Saenz, Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund president and general council. "It's just so outrageous. it's just an absolute insult to the rule of law." — Sen. Russell Pearce, R-Mesa, the legislation's chief sponsor. "Arizona's new law will likely spawn a patchwork of new immigration laws around the country. This isn't an optimal approach. However, the response cannot be a patchwork of federal challenges — it needs to be comprehensive immigration reform." — U.S. Rep. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz. "The impact of illegal immigration on Arizona's well-being cannot be denied. But to require local police to act as immigration agents when a lack of local resources already makes enforcing criminal laws and ordinances a challenging proposition, is not realistic. " — Tucson Police Chief Roberto Villasenor. "This lawsuit is a sideshow, distracting us from the real task at hand. " — U.S. Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick, D-Ariz. "Mexico expresses its approval of the decision by the United States government to seek to block the implementation of the SB1070 law. The Mexican government repeats that it recognizes the sovereign right of all countries to adopt laws and public policies within their territories. But when a measure like SB1070 potentially affects the civil and human rights of thousands of Mexicans, the Mexican government has an obligation to protect the rights and dignity of its compatriots." — Mexico's Foreign Relations Department. " Our country needs a federal solution to this problem, not a chaotic hodgepodge of 50 different state immigration policies." — U.S. Rep. Nydia Velazquez, D-N.Y., Congressional Hispanic Caucus chairwoman. "For President Obama to stand in the way of a state which has taken action to stand up for its citizens against this daily threat of violence and fear is disgraceful and a betrayal of his Constitutional obligation to protect our citizens. " — U.S. Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform ranking minority member. "This is exactly the right time for our federal government to send a message about the importance of fairness and equality under the law." — U.S. Rep. Raul Grijalva, D-Ariz. "While the president acknowledged last week that Arizonans are justifiably fed up with inaction, filing a lawsuit is counterproductive to his statements of appealing to the American people's highest ideals to create a sensible and workable immigration policy. Arizonans are tired of the grandstanding. Political posturing on this issue has to end." — U.S. Rep. Harry Mitchell, D-Ariz. "The administration's lawsuit is a cannon shot across the bow of other states that may be tempted to follow Arizona's misguided approach. "— Lucas Guttentag, ACLU Immigrants' Rights Project director. "If the president wants to make real progress on this issue, he can do so by taking amnesty off the table and focus his efforts on border and interior security." — U.S. Sen. Mitchell McConnell, R-Ky., S  more

Resolved Question: I NEED HELP! PLEASE! (Teen issue) All opinions?

Thank you for taking your time to read this... this question is too long to be typed up there. So here it goes... I'm currently a teenage girl, but is a confused and a naive one. In highschool, us teenage girls go through a lot. Emotional stages, peer pressure, menstrual period, and so on and so forth. I don't know how to say this... but I'm starting to get through that age were we want to have a gender of the opposite sex. By our sides. But at the same time, I don't. Mostly because I know the consequences, and "what can happen if your not careful" also i'm not mature enough for it. I want to get high educational standards first, and then get my career, and travel. But I don't want to be left out on that too. I want to wait until I'm 22. Or at least 25. I don't know yet, and like.... my parents tell me that is the right time too. A lot of my classmates already have boyfriends, and they're trying to antagonize me into having one too. I tell them that I don't.... and they think so otherwise. (Meaning lesbos) I also don't like dressing up, all the time or wearing make up or cute things. Im more of a down to earth kind of girl, when it comes to fashion. I adore and love books, and studying.... but everyone is the opposite. They party, hang out with friends, and do what a teenager should do on their free time. Which they think is normal, but the parents don't. I'm a chatterbox, and I like to expose and converse myself with others. Of course, don't get me wrong. I have a life, I'm in clubs and soon to be in the NHS. Including honors. Drivers ed, and so on and so forth. Tennis, too. But the mere thought of boyfriends kill me. Because the majority of them, in high school expect girls to be the exact opposite of what I am in high school. What should I do? Please help....... I'm very confused on what side I should stick too. I spend more time, with my family then I do with friends...but that's where people underestimate me. THANK U! For your sweet comments everyone, MUCH APPRECITED! You make me feel so much better... By the way.... I'm telling the honest truth about myself. There is so many good advice, given to me out there. That I don't know who to pick for the best answer. *sighs*.  more

Resolved Question: What do you think about the Texas making it a law to be homosexual?

Texas GOP Official Platform Calls for Imprisonment of Homosexuals and Supportive Heterosexuals 20 JUNE 2010 COMMENTS (223) AUTHOR: JAYSAYS I’m not a big fan of Democrats right now. In fact, I’m so upset with their negotiations to be bi-partisan, I actually considered not voting for a single democrat this November and instead voting for an independent or abstaining my vote altogether. Many LGBT people have made calls for a boycott of the democrats – no money and no votes. But I live in Texas and that changes things for me. The Texas GOP has released their “2010 State Republican Party Platform” and its filled with hate and bigotry. One blogger even likened the platform to being very similar to that of Uganda’s anti-homosexuality bill – and they are absolutely right! The anti-gayness of the Republican platform began with their principles. Principle #6 begins, : We believe in… Self-sufficient families, founded on the traditional marriage of a natural man and a natural woman. That principle concurs with roughly 76% of Texas voters (which was the percentage that voted to support an amendment to the Texas Constitution to ban same-sex marriage, or anything even similar to it). But it gets far more frightening. Under the bold, uppercase heading, “Strengthening Families, Protecting Life and Promoting Health” the Texas GOP outlines why I should be legislated back into the closet and how they intend to do it: Family and Defense of Marriage – We support the definition of marriage as a God–ordained, legal and moral commitment only between a natural man and a natural woman, which is the foundational unit of a healthy society, and we oppose the assault on marriage by judicial activists. *** We further call on Congress to pass and the state legislatures to ratify a marriage amendment declaring that marriage in the United States shall consist of and be recognized only as the union of a natural man and a natural woman. Neither the United States nor any state shall recognize or grant to any unmarried person the legal rights or status of a spouse. You’ll note that the Texas GOP is asking that marriage rights in other states be revoked as well. Family Values – We affirm that this section is a response to the attacks on traditional family values. These include well funded, vigorous political and judicial attempts by powerful organizations and branches of the government to force acceptance, affirmation and normalization of homosexual behavior upon school children, parents, educational institutions, businesses, employees, government bodies and religious institutions and charities. These aggressive, intolerant efforts marginalize as bigots anyone who dissents. You’ll notice that the shoe fits. They are attempting to legislate me. They are attempting to deny me fundamental rights they enjoy based upon, as evidenced by this proposal, their belief in an intolerant and uncaring “God.” Here’s the definition of bigot to make it clear that they are what they claim not to be: “One who is strongly partial to one’s own group, religion, race, or politics and is intolerant of those who differ.” Thus, I am a bigot too because I’m intolerant of the belief that I am inferior as a human to the Texas GOP. I accept and embrace that fact. The only difference between my bigotry and theirs is that I don’t tell them who they should marry. But wait, it gets worse and here’s where we start sounding very Ugandan: Marriage Licenses – We support legislation that would make it a felony to issue a marriage license to a same-sex couple and for any civil official to perform a marriage ceremony for such. That’s right. If you are a heterosexual clergy member who decides to perform a marriage ceremony for a same-sex person, you go to prison. You don’t have to have gay sex anymore to go to prison in Texas (as you did in the past), now you can go just for supporting a life commitment between two people of the same-sex. The Texas GOP then goes on to ignorantly declare that homosexuality: tears at the fabric of society, contributes to the breakdown of the family unit, leads to the spread of dangerous, communicable diseases, and is contrary to the fundamental, unchanging truths that have been ordained by God, recognized by our country’s founders, and shared by the majority of Texans. But wait, it gets worse… still: Homosexuality must not be presented as an acceptable “alternative” lifestyle in our public education and policy, nor should “family” be redefined to include homosexual “couples.” We are opposed to any granting of special legal entitlements, refuse to recognize, or grant special privileges including, but not limited to: marriage between persons of the same sex (regardless of state of origin), custody of children by homosexuals, homosexual partner insurance or retirement benefits. We oppose any criminal or civil penalties against those who oppose homosexuality out of faith, conviction, or b http://jaysays.com/2010/06/texas-gop-official-platform-calls-for-imprisonment-of-homosexuals-and-supportive-heterosexuals/ That's the link to the article. Basically the Texas GOP wants to make homosexuality a crime outlawing homosexual acts and if caught they will be given time in prison, also heterosexuals that support gay rights will be sent straight to prison too! They also want to spread this law to the rest of the US!  more

Resolved Question: organizational question?

Change is not simply adapting to change, but also making a difference to create change. Your task this week is to visit www.change.org Here, you will find hundreds of non-profit organizations and "causes" that underscore needs, concerns and developments in our 21st-century world. You will find organizations working to protect and sustain the environment, relieve hunger, advocate for the safety of children, provide health care to refugees, and save endangered species. For each organization or cause, there is a brief write-up of the work that is being done, and the challenges that remain. I'd like for each of you to identify an organization or cause and write a brief description of why you are interested in the issue. Resolved Question: Spiritually speaking...what does God think of children using video games?

Alright...so this is totally not a religious question...but this section is (most of the time) so much more level-headed and responsive than others. I said most of the time...lol. This question was added in the parenting section the other day : "At what age do you think is appropriate for a child to have a video game system like a nintendo DS?" The majority of the responses were listing ages...some of the ages being very young. And here was MY response : "I HATE video games for kids. I'm convinced that television and game systems, combined with parents who don't moderate their usage are the main cause of the spike in childhood obesity, attention deficit disorders, and aggression issues we are seeing today. Even DVD's like Baby Einstein are advertised for babies as young as 3 months....WHY? Don't get me wrong...I watch television, and I can appreciate that they are making educational games now, but why should I put my 6 month old in front of the TV to learn where their hands, feet, and facial features are when I can lay her on my lap and teach her the same thing myself? Kids seem to be so electronically stimulated today that half the time they are bored when the game plays out...and I think most parents give in because the TV is an easy babysitter. Whatever happened to the days of imagination and building forts?" Two thumbs ups...NINE thumbs down. It's because I said "hate",isn't it? My actual question is this: How young is too young, and how do you feel video games and television for children have adversely or positively children of today compared to when most of us were children?  more

Resolved Question: Essay...please help!?

I need to have 300 words...I have 248 at the moment. Can someone please help me in figuring out how to get more words? Here's the topic of the essay: You are the judge in Blather County, and you are listening to a very important case. This is a lawsuit among several different groups. The lawsuit developed because, over the past three years, there has been very little rainfall, and no snow. The Lottawatta River is very low, and water is scarce. In the river lives the Bluemouth Salmon, which is an endangered species. The government has said that there will be no water for irrigation use this year because the water is needed for the salmon to be able to reproduce. Farmers in the area have filed the lawsuit arguing that they will go out of business if there is no water. Environmental groups are defending the action saying the salmon must be protected. The farmers say that the government cannot cause them to go out of business or destroy their way of life. Native Americans say the salmon is sacred to them and must be preserved according to treaties. You must decide who wins. Give your verdict and justify your decision. The justification must be strong because this case will be appealed. Here is the essay: According to the Endangered Species Act, the U.S.Government is required to take necessary actions towards the conservation of threatened and endangered species within the United States of America. The Endangered Species Act states that “these species of fish, wildlife, and plants are of esthetic, ecological, educational, historical, recreational, and scientific value to the Nation and its people”. In addition, the government must follow the regulations of Native American treaties. If the Bluemouth salmon is sacred to the Natives, and treaties insist the species be protected, these rules must be followed with respect to the Natives and their rights. It is understood that sometimes the methods used by the government to protect wildlife may be inconvenient to landowners. This issue is also recognized in the Endangered Species Act, stating that, “Federal agencies shall cooperate with State and local agencies to resolve water resource issues in concert with conservation of endangered species.” The farmers can most likely request a grant from the government to aid them in their economic hardships. The farmers might also consider switching over to drought resistant crops until the drought is over. If the farmers continue to irrigate their land and crops using water from the Lottawatta River, this will jeopardize an endangered species and possibly drive it to extinction. The impact of this loss on future generations would be much greater than the financial loss of the farmers. The effects of extinction are irreversible, devastating, and permanent, and therefore must be prevented at all costs. If you have any tips and suggestions, especially on how to get more words, i would appreciate it! thanks!  more

Resolved Question: Letter of Intent - Not the strongest writer :)?

Hey guys I wondering if you all could help me out with my letter of intent. I'm not the strongest formal writer...which I will definitely need to improve on. The following is the prompt: Letter of intent to pursue doctoral studies in curriculum and instruction (The letter should contain a discussion of topics such as your motivation for doctoral study, areas of research interests, and how you envision using your doctoral studies to address educational issues of interest to you.),\ This is the body of my letter. To the Department of Teacher Education & Administration: Thank you for your time and consideration. I am seeking admission to the University XYZ College of Education and into the Doctoral Program in Curriculum and Instruction. As you will note from the enclosed resume, I graduated from XYZ in 2006 with majors in Political Science and Spanish and with a Master of Arts in Teaching in 2008. Following college graduation I joined XYZ as a founding teacher. We had approximately 13 teachers and 200 students our first year. Since then, XYZ has grown in size and has well over 600 students on our wait list. This is a tribute to the tremendous growth our students have achieved in such a short period of time. Our students come to us often years behind their peers in other school districts. One of the challenges given to teachers was that of making use of every minute of instruction that we had available. Learning how to plan and knowing why I was teaching a certain lesson became and still is our focus. This is why the Doctoral Degree in Curriculum and Instruction caught my interest. I know that the experiences that I would receive in your program will affect the way I plan, teach, and assess, which will in turn affect my students’ experiences in the classroom. I would like to discuss more about this program with you. My phone number is XYZ, and my email address is XYZ@XYZ.com. I would be looking forward to get in touch with you.  more

Resolved Question: What will you do in this situation? pls read and answer?

There is this place I started working for around 6 months or so. I have two bachelor degrees in mathematics and international business. From day one I joined the company I can see that most of the senior staff seem threatened by Me. I am not given anything meaningful to do and as matter of fact the job they have given me, 15 years old kid with no educational background can performance. I try to have conversation with some of the managers and female manager I eat lunch sometimes told me the president likes females who sweet talk him and he likes women who wears seductive dresses and another female colleague told me how one previous employee who had 2 master degrees got fired by the president. When I asked the reason she told me she was very serious worker and just was doing her job but he kept giving her minus performance report and he likes women who will smooth talk him etc. I work with the above mentioned man but I never had much interaction with him. He mentioned once to senior manager that this new girl always gives me her back and I do not like it. I found that strange and funny cause I come to work before him and when he comes in he should ******* say good morning but he says to some however I see he says morning to some and looks at me and just walks away. I few times came face to face with him and I say hi or morning. That's just one man but I work directly with the vp and I think (I am not sure 100%) but my gut feeling tells me they have strategy if someone who seems bright or intelligent is hired to keep them in the dark and that will lead them to resign or fire that individual. I have great analytical skills and I see how colleagues act like puppets for their seniors, bring coffee ordering breakfast and delivering to their office. I found all that behaviour mindblogging. I have spoken to the vp that I'm not qualified for what I'm doing and he said you will get the training. There is a senior manager from human resources who resigned and she was working with them 10 years. I grabbed the chance and went for lunch with her. I put forward the issues I'm facing and she told mr exactly what I thought that they will keep you doing that clerks job for as much as they can so u go a head and resign. What would you do in situation like the above?  more

Resolved Question: Nothing can be studied by those who cannot study the properties of things. How many of you can study things...?

Nothing can be studied by those who cannot study the properties of things. How many of you can study things with out the knowledge of its properties? What is that which can be studied without the knowledge of its properties? Could you name that which can be studied without the knowledge of its properties? I pose this question because I am under the impression the money greedy academic people is misguiding the public. There should be some civilized discussion on the current issue. Education is supposed to improve the human living condition by promoting cooperation in human kind. Ironically the educational system promotes ruthless competition among the people. Can competition and cooperation go together. Currently, there is another team of people who are proposing for the dissolution of educational systems. What is your opinion?  more

Resolved Question: Ramadan: Muslims what do you think of?

the effects of Multiculturalism in the west ? How many of you live in the west and get your liberty, your education, your healthcare, your rights? If the West becomes just like the rest of the 3rd world countries.. then what ? I think Multi-Culturalism is destroying the Western society. Crimes are commited more by immigrants and non-whites in these countries by statistics, and in reality you would obviously see. Zionist controled media never shows the domestic issues occuring in America or Europe. and every single thing is biased! . They control the government. and have plunged the West into fighting with the Middle Eastern countries, Muslims and Christians going against eachother :( Multiculturalism destroying the Western countries. MOST immigrants can't they behave. ppl come to a western country to flee the horrible life from theirs, but they bring along t disgusting behavior .Then they ask why white ppl hate them.Bunch of hypocrites . they should Stop turning the west into 3rd world countries. STOP COMMITING CRIMES. they shouldn't enforce their beliefs on others. Like how most African Americans always blame white ppl for their problems , yet they are offered a wayyy better life here than in Africa where to this day black enslave blacks. Over here in the West they have African American college fundings, and educational programs.. yet MOST of African American youth still ends up joining gangs. In Europe , believe me there are Arab and Pakistani gangs . I don't understand, isn't violence that they fleed from in the first place. from your countries , from opression, from persecution. why make a new country that is giving you your rights a living hell . Then you wonder why white ppl are "racist". You don't understand, very few black kids learn in school. What bout Africa ? why are Africans killing eachother ? black on black crime. everyone is hypocritical bout their own ppl. no one looks at the faults within themselves. you can't just dismiss it by sayin there are good and bad everywhere. if that was the case.. then Europe would have been just like Africa or the Middle East... would you walk in a black neighborhood alone ??? I used to live in one , and it was a nightmare. Now i live in an Irish neighborhood, i walk outside during the night. I feel safe lol the race card is being played again. I'm being labeled a racist. Japan doesn't have the probs the west is having , neither do these other Asian countries. Most Asians migrate TO THE WEST. why can't they stay where they are if everything is going just fine ? There has got ot be a reason why they migrate , in the end it all comes back to the same thing. You ppl fail to realize that these immigrants from places like Africa and the Middle East and Mexico bring along with them the same type of behavior that they are fleeing from in the first place. Compared to whites, they commit more crimes. Example blacks are only 13% of the population, yet our jails are dominant with blacks and latinos. Statistic shows that these ppl commit more crime. As for their neighborhoods, they get provided with FREE education which they can take advantage of like i did. Ever been to a black dominant school ?? you can't learn with them because they make it difficult for eachother. You bring along a a list of countries where crime is high, but do you know which group is responsible for these spiking crime rates ??? Yeah some white ppl may come off as being rude , disrespectful, and violent. But compared to everyone else , you would only encounter a white person like that on very few occasions. Would you walk in a African American or Latino neighborhood alone at night ??? I don't think so . Again these ppl are offered scholarship programs and educational funding. You would blame white ppl for making them this way. so what are they now children or somehting ?? they have no brains to use for themselves ? ?? Even b4 whites stepped foot on Africa ,its not like it was Utopia. AND slavery still exists in Africa to this day. I went on that list of crime statistics, LOL the middle Eastern countries has nothing!!!!! Anyone would be dumb enough to believe that. Do you know of the corrupt ppl are there. What about the kidnappings over there of girls. Sex slavery is a high. when did i say i resented them ?? You all are brainwashed by the media, everything has to be politically correct. I never spoke about hating anyone. I spoke facts. Give them time ??? America is an example, slavery has been diminished more than a 100 yrs ago. Yet still need more time to fix themselves.  more

Resolved Question: What is a good, educational children's magazine?

My seven year old brother likes looking through my issues of National Geographic. He saw an ad for National Geographic Kids in it and asked me to buy it for him. But I looked up some reviews online and found that they are mostly negative; apparently the kids' magazine has a lot of advertising and few real articles. Does anyone know a good, age-appropriate kids' magazine my brother would enjoy? It should have easy-to-read articles, cool pictures of nature and activities. Thanks!  more

Voting Question: Virtual learning environments?

Company name: "Avington College" Number of employees: 20 (10 teaching staff) Number of Students: 80-100 Nature of Business: Private education for 16 – 18 year olds The college teaches a wide range of subjects (it has not made any significant use of IT), and new management would like to make maximum use of IT in its teaching. This is to include a virtual learning environment, and the use of a wide range of educational resources and software, such as programming environments including Flash or an alternative, image and audio editors and office software. The budget is limited and they are considering open source and freeware options. Security and safety are also important concerns. The college would also like to set up an online radio station, which would be run by staff and students, to play a mixture of music and talk for a few hours a day, but this would depend on the cost. Six members of staff are already comfortable with using various virtual learning environments, and are computer literate and would like to set up a virtual college in Second Life. The college are looking to purchase 40 desktop computers for students, and 10 laptops for staff, and to employ a technician. Resolved Question: Who is Cecelia Lee the Marketing Director of HOK office in Beijing?

Cecelia Lee Ms. Xiaoxi Li is a Director located in Beijing, China of Hellmuth, Obata and Kassabaum (”HOK“), the U.S.-headquartered architecture, interior design, engineering, planning and consulting firm. Known to the Western World as Cecilia Lee was born in the Northern part of China in 1969 under the name Xiaoxi Li. Cecilia Lee has routinely engaged in questionable, evasive and deceptive legal tactics; when she was persecuted in US court for crimes and for corrupt practices she did not show up in person in court, event not once or stepped on American soil, she was fearful of being arrested. Cecelia Lee claims that she has obtained Master Degree from Thunderbird School of Global Management (“Thunderbird”), a private business school in the United States, and the first and oldest graduate school specializing in international management and global business and another Master from Arizona State University. When she was challenged in court to produce proof of high education, she did not have any information that can support such claims. In fact, pursuant to an order of the court by which the subpoena was issued to Thunderbird School of Global Management for an order to compel the production documentations relating to Lee’s educational background, Thunderbird response dated to July 10, 2008 indicates that once upon a time in America Cecilia Lee has taken total of 15 curses of prerequisite-classes. Moreover, when she was challenged to prove fraudulent health related claims during pre-trial court hearings, Cecelia Lee provided the court with fraudulent medical records that she obtained by bribing hospital officials in China. Since 2005 Cecelia Lee facing civil charges in the United States of America on attempt to murder, make false statements, and commit perjury; false statements (2 counts); libelous posting of slanderous articles, abduction, and grand theft crime, just to name a few and in a way of example. Her trail dates not set as yet. In 2009 the 40-years-old Cecilia Lee started to prepare for her new cyber crime adventure and she recruited the 20-years-old John Travis Flynn who also known to the public as J. T. Flynn to act as her proxy to execute the “perfect cyber crime” with the help of the 60-years-old photographer, Lou Juaneza, the President of Westhoff Studios. Historical criminology has described the underworld role of Fagin-an adult who forces, seduces or teaches minors to commit crimes for him. In contemporary debates, it is sometimes feared that adolescents cunningly evade criminal law by recruiting younger children to commit offences for them. Cecilia Lee is old enough to be Flynn’s mother and Lou Juaneza, the President of Westhoff Studios, is old enough to be Flynn’s grandmother or perhaps Flynn is young enough to be Lou’s grandchild.  more

Voting Question: Is there a place that I can report a school to for an inspection or something?

I went to National College in Bristol, Tennessee. I have never seen so many idiot running one place. First off, they LITERALLY suckered me into going there. They told me my credits would be transferable (and DID NOT mention that no schools would actually accept them) 90% of the time I was in classes, we watched movies. NOT educational movies, but actual like, new cinema, movies!!! They barely go over anything in the classes and when they give tests the READ THE ACTUAL TEST TO YOU and let you copy it down so you can study it!!! They did my financial aid wrong the first time they did it, the second time they did it they forgot to do something and my financial aid wasnt actually set up until 2 weeks after I started classes! They have charged things to my student account that I TOLD them to take off (such as a scrubs uniform that i told them twice i didn't need). I NEVER got my student ID. I had to drive there yesterday to ask about the charges to my account because NO ONE would answer the phone. When I got there the woman at the front desk was reading a magazine as I stood a FOOT from her desk. She FINISHED WAT SHE WAS READING and THEN asked me what I needed. I told her I needed to talk to someone in financial aid and she said, "you will just have to walk back there and see if anyone is available." I was like WTF?! So i went back and the woman i talked to treated me like $hit! was RUDE as can be, and has STILL not taken the charge off of my account. The DEAN of the school (who LITERALLY looks like death) YELLED at us (the students) like we were in kindergarden because we were talking. I mean, it was a dress for success presentation and she looked just discusting. That was just about the last straw for me. I didn't go to COLLEGE to be treated like an INFANT. There's more, but I dont want to make this a freakin novel. Anyways, is there any places out there that deals with these issues? Like some kind of agency that would look into these issues? Thanks. EDIT: I have LEFT that college and will NEVER go back. EVER. Another issue was I SIGNED the papers saying I WAS NOT coming back (along with my boyfriend at the SAME EXACT TIME) and they charged his account for another semester!!!  more

Resolved Question: A question about studying A-levels (drama in particular) as a foreigner?

I am originally from S. Korea and interested in studying in the fields of musical theatre, drama or anything similar in a practice-focused educational environment rather than theoretical in London. The thing is my last schooling ended in high school and I hold a high school certificate that is the equivalent to that of the US system and thus, as far as I have known, it is one year below the level of the education that the UK secondary graduates are supposed to reach along with their graduation. Considering the factors that my English is not as fluent as other future competitors with the native background and I do not have a history of having any formal trainings in dancing, acting or singing and so on, I was wondering if it would make any sense for me to spend nearly two years and helluva money on studying A-levels to get accepted into such schools of good quality as RADA, Guildhall or any others that I do not have information of now. And if it does make sense, what should I study? Are any subjects related to drama taught in A-levels not theoretically but practically so that it prepares students for taking auditions? If my idea sounds just like a fantasy-like dream, then what realistic and sensible advice could you (hopefully British citizens) give me? I have also thought about going to the US, but it would seem the life there would be harder for me in terms of money with regard to school fees and living costs in New York compared to London. (I am not sure) The fact that most of deadlines are done now makes it more sensible that I come back (I have been staying in England for 2 years so far) to London where there are loads of theatres and related industries around, so that I will experience what it is to 'act' on stage and to do some preparation studies like A-levels (Drama, English literature and so forth) though slowly. Also, are there any educational institutions offering A-level courses aimed at adults and/or foreigners in particular? I am 22 years old and therefore cannot enter a normal school. I really hope what I have blahed above has made the issue clear and understandable. Many more questions should be saved for another time, I suppose. Thank you in advance!  more

Resolved Question: What is The National Young Leadership Conference, Is it a Scam?

Today i received a letter from this organization? saying congratulations you have been nominated to represent your high school at the National Young Leaders Conference (NYLC) to be held in Washington, D.C. this fall 2010. Here's word for word for what the rest of the letter said: You are receiving this unique educational opportunity based on your academic achievements, which we became aware of through a voluntary survey you took by the National Research Center for College and University Admissions Post-Secondary Planning Survey. Like many high school participants, you requested to make your survey information available to approved educational organizations. You now have the opportunity to join a select group of the most elite high school students in the nation who, like you, are destined to become the future leaders of our country. Over the course of 10 exciting days, you will sharpen your leadership skills by observing and interacting with the nation's foremost leaders, policy makers and members of the press. You will see our national government at work by attending a presentation on the floor of the House of Representatives and an issue briefing conducted by a member of the president's administration. At NYLC, you will receive experience and guidance that can't be found in a textbook. (I didn't type all that, they also sent me an email with the same thing the letter said) but anyways, what is this? is it a scam? how did i get picked? has anyone else done this? i would just like some imformation please....thanks  more

Resolved Question: How Do I say this to someone nicely about her looks ... ??? not faminine enough for me ...plus pleae suggest?

I have been talking to this one girl ....I don't like her with the same intensity that she likes me ... She understands the fact that I don't like talking on the phone too much so we only talk once a week .... she will send me some "very random" and some "sweet" texts during the week but she doesn't call ... my guess is she resists the temptations to call me ... I do want to call her but I am not as tempted or desprate to call her as she is .. Although I am a little desperate , which is why I AM talking to her regularly Once a week for past 5 weeks .... She talks a lot, she has a strongish personality but she is somewhat understanding .. =========================================== I am not attracted to her for following reasons .... ( Do you think she will be able to change these ? ) 1. She seems like someone with little low self confidence and lack of self esteem ...its not really bad but ...bad enough to be noticable when I talk to her. 2 She is not the most attractive person but I THINK She would be fairly decent atractive person IF SHE STARTs DRESSING better and CHANGES her styles and Fashion ..... she has a height and weight issue but more than that she a Fashion and Style issues ... she doesn't LOOK GIRLY enough to me .. 3 . Besides that she has had similar educational, financial, persona and family struggles as I did ..... we are from same religion ...same cultues...similar interests ... almost equally interesting and equally boring ... Only differences are ...her target boyfriend's qualifications are LOW ... my target girlfriend's qualificatios are HIGH ... (as u have read in this message so far ) .... Her Strong/talkative personalit vs my laidback - quiet approach to life .... even though she is talkative she feels that I am wayyy more outgoing then she is .... anyways I wanted someone else to read this and give me some suggestions .... Resolved Question: Illegal Immigration law?

Does anyone else see a big fucking issue here? Everyone seems to be caught up in this big issue of being politically correct. 20 MILLION illegal immigrants have come HERE between 2004 and 2010. 80% of them come from South America, and 70% of those are from Mexico. 50% of those illegal immigrants are arrested for violent or drug-related felonies. They bring their drugs and their gangs here. They don't bother to learn our language, WE have to bend to THEM. OUR welfare that WE pay our TAX MONEY on goes to them and their hoards of children. With illegal immigration comes higher poverty rates, more educational loss, lower unskilled wage level's and an increased danger of terrorism. Over 20 billion dollars is spent ANNUALLY on illegal immigrants alone. Illegals pay 1/3rd the taxes of born citizens, and about 21% of prisoners are classified as "non-citizens". More than a third of illegal's live in these three cities: Chicago, New York and Los Angeles. Middle and lower class citizens loose their jobs for the lower-waged illegals, nations hospitals loose money over charity treatment to illegals. After ALL of this, after them living on OUR hard work, how can people say that its "alright" to let them come. It's NOT. Our government has left the boarder open for so damn long and Arizona is FINALLY doing what our government should have done long ago: protected the integrity of the U.S. people. Most countries turn away illegals and send them out of their country. Why the hell can't we...? I want some serious answers to this: do people agree or disagree with the Arizona law, should we ban illegals...? And I'm just gonna ignore people who go " UR SO STOOPID " based on my research. Do a little on the illegal immigrant impact on our government before calling me "stupid". Lets stop this INVASION on our boarders now plz. =/  more

Resolved Question: How can we stop young women from being targeted for victimization in our educational system?

Women's Studies courses, by being more focused on producing more activists for the cause than on educating students to think critically about various issues, may actually be stifling young women's intellectual development and hindering them from reaching their full potential. How can we stop young women from being victimized in this way?  more

Resolved Question: What are your thoughts on pro-illegal supporters portray the plight of illegal aliens as a human rights issue?

Immigration lawsuits Towns, organizations to sue Arizona The controversy Senate Bill 1070 ignited nearly a month ago is still fresh in the minds of those opposed to it. Now, two local towns are firing back at the state of Arizona in a lawsuit announced this week. San Luis and Somerton will try to stop the new immigration law from taking effect because they say it's unconstitutional and will lead to racial profiling. State Senator Amanda Aguirre says she's okay with the lawsuit and supports towns' rights to go to court. Senator Aguirre works in Somerton as the CEO of the Regional Center for Border Health, so the community's fight hits close to home. Aguirre admits she's worried racial profiling will be inevitable if the law is allowed to stand. Two years ago, the state senator says she pushed for a national identity document known as a Smart Driver's License designed to help authorities figure out the legal status of people they come into contact with, but Aguirre says her proposal never made it to a hearing. Those opposed to the law won't be fighting alone, however. The Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF) will soon go to court in a separate civil action. The group will be joined by other organizations such as the ACLU and NAACP just to name a few. http://www.kyma.com/slp.php?idN=3566&cat=Sports  more

Resolved Question: Should I go to University?

This is the second time I have asked this as I am not sure I was clear in my first question. I am from a wealthy and quite a snobby family. All my cousins went to Private schools and are moving onto university which seems like no hassle for them. I however, went to a state (which is catholic school and came out with okay GCSE's went onto A levels and hated them and barely got through. My mum even had to do some of my essays (I an sure she is the smartest and most literate person in the world and makes it looks so easy) as I left them late. So anyway I didn't get good enough grades to do anything I would like to do so my mum said I should do an access course, as without a degree my life would be in a dead end job just getting along when she would prefer me to be happy and on a wage would make my life extremely accessible. I am not sure that University is for me, I haven't as of yet got the motivation to make me strive for something. I feel embarrased and ashamed and that all my family shall talk about me. It's not like they are educational, only my generation of the family are. The sons and daughter of the Irish family. All my Aunties and Uncles are a lot older and have made there money through contracting and owning there own companies so there children have had such a good life. I really dont want to have a bad life in the future as my life so far has been extremely fortunate. New Car, insurance paid for, comfortable living. I dont know how I would handle going into life on my own and not having all this available? I know I sound spoilt, which is not the issue as I am extremely down to earth and it is not my immediate family which has wealth as my mum is a single parent social worker. I just want to know I am not going to end up with a horrible life? Just thought I would add that im not some lazy girl that lives off mummy, my grandad helps me out with the car and insurance. I work with people with disabilities, I work extremely hard. A boy with down syndrome and a girl with cerebral palsy. I am no way living off my parents. I have to pay for all my clothes and I also have to clean up and make my own tea. I am no way some little snobby **** who has been given everything. I feel kind of like I have to make that aware to everyone as I dont like the feeling of people thinking I have had a very lucky upbringing when that is far from it. I have volunteered for 4 months at a special needs camp also so dont think I am just lazy Thank You I know I have had a fortunate upbringing just not everything handed to me on a plate so I dont mean I have not had a good life.Just not as lucky as others. :)  more

Resolved Question: Psychological Disorder affecting Anxiety?

Is there any psychological disorder like affecting when a person can't worry ? Like takes everything so easily, and calmly. Life and death matters, calmly. For example, the person has an exam tomorrow, he hasn't studied, but he is calm about it. The person studies last minute. It's like he doesn't worry about important things in his life. Like university applications, scholarship issues, educational testing, violence? Is there a psychological problem about it?  more

Resolved Question: Could science save our political system? (by forming its own party)?

It doesn't have to be exclusive to scientists, but founded on scientific and democratic principals. Committed to critical thinking and the protections of the constitution. Committed to unbiased analysis of the facts available. Unbiased analysis of the results of policies and laws. Open minded about the possible effectiveness of a shift in policies depending on the evidence. I think there is a vast shortage of politicians who understand science or who even understand critical thinking. They subscribe to ideologies written in stone no matter the cost to society. They throw tons of money at pet projects and subsidies while slashing budgets for important science. They have allowed lobbyists to slow the pace of government to a crawl. Issues which are clearly understood by scientists are distorted and argued superficially because of special interests. This makes the government impotent to move with a pace sufficient to meet the dangers of today. Resulting in the potential peril of all society. Wouldn't the pragmatic and democratic approach of the scientific method be a better means of governance? Who better to improve the educational woe's of the country than the people with the most passion for learning and discovery. Critics of global warming could be exposed for the ignoramuses they are if forced to debate with someone who actually understands the science behind it. The people of this political party would be concerned with facts and evidence instead of the emotionally charged wedge issues which currently preoccupy politicians. Perhaps recombining a love of science with politics (as many of the founding fathers were scientists) could spark a new enlightenment or Uncover a new Thomas Jefferson or Ben Franklin What do yo think? Agree? Disagree? What is your relationship to science?  more

Resolved Question: Do you think an education at NAIT, Grant MacEwan, or the U of A is better for a career in chemistry?

I recently finished my first year at the University of Alberta with having chemistry as my major. I do enjoy the challenge of the U of A, but I feel I can only handle about 3 courses per term. If I continue with the U of A, it may take me about 6-7 years to finish my degree instead of just 4 years. So I'm wondering if Grant MacEwan University or NAIT would be a better choice for me. Here are some of my main thoughts so far: -Grant MacEwan: ->PRO: I may find it a bit easier to learn there. Therefore, I may be able to handle 4 courses per term so I can finish my degree in maybe 5-6 years instead. -NAIT: -> PRO: I would be able to finish a degree in 2-4 years and gain valuable, concise skills to be well prepared for a job. ->CON: It may result in fewer career options. If you guys could help me by: -Writing about similar experiences you or someone you know went through. -Giving your opinion about the different institutes. -Writing what type and quality of jobs I could end up with for each of the different educational routes. -Predicting any issues I may encounter from transferring to NAIT or MacEwan. Thank you!  more

Resolved Question: Air force vs army nursing?

I have my BSN and am considering. Can someone please tell me about future nurse career opportunities in the army and air force? I looked at some army powerpoint slides and it looks like a clear ride all the way to LTC with them paying for me to get a master's degree when I become Captain, and also a 20-week specialty course after I hit the 1 year mark. Does the air force have these same programs and are they easy to get into? I am leaning towards the air force for quality of life issues, but am considering the army because of the educational opportunities and the better promotion rate and time. Does the air force let its captains go back to school to get master's degrees, fully paid, and then return? Is it also easy to get into air force specialty programs for specialized training (in ICU, ED, OR, etc)? Right now I am talking to nurse recruiters from both branches and putting a packet together for each branch. *meant to say considering trying for a commission in the AF and the army. I'm also a former soldier with 4 years AD time.  more

Resolved Question: Has my school violated any state or federal laws?

Okay, I just barely asked this same question, but I wasn't very mature in how I asked it. I used tons of profanity, and unfairly insulted teachers for no reason. For that I apologize, to both my teachers for insulting them behind their backs and also to the people who read what i wrote. I also attached an email of one of my school advisers, please do not email her, i'm sure she has enough issues as is. Here is my question reworded: 1.) My friend and I both go to a school for minor educational differences. When I first enrolled in the school it specialized in ADD, Adhd, and dyslexia. Now however, it's begun to focus on major autistic behaviors, and the non-verbal violent types.... I plan to leave the school at the end of the year... 2.) My friend who is clearly oppositional and defiant refused to wear his 'mandatory school assigned clothing.' The school supposedly accommodates the needs of students, but in this case they were very unfair. His therapist told him that since his uniform gives him so much anxiety, (It makes him feel like he loses control apparently) that he doesn't have to wear it all day. The doctor said to 'only wear it one period a day and slowly get yourself comfortable with it. ' The school knowing this still refused to listen. The main source of my friends 'bad' behaviors comes through being forced to 'conform' he wants to be himself, and since he clearly feels oppressed he acts as if he has ODD, he may or may not, this only happens when he wears his uniform. I believe that in the same way people associate feelings to smells, for example the smell of a loved ones cologne, that he associates fear and control with his uniform... 3.) one day, the day after his therapist told him of this plan he walked to lunch in his street clothes... One of the teachers, a nice fellow once you get to know him, but very impulsive and rude on the surface.... (that was worded oddly... lol as was that) Anyhowwwwww that teacher stopped my friend and told him to go to the office and change into his uniform. 4.) the school has threatened to call the police on him for this exact same thing before, (not wearing the assigned clothing) so i jokingly said, "oh, no <censored name>! you better change into your assigned clothing before they call 911 on you!" then, the head of school said, "Yes, we will call 911" I tried to object and argue but they made me go outside. My friend was nearly in tears as I walked away... The first teacher got nearly an inch from my friends face and told him to either go to change or be physically dragged into the front office...So after lunch was over I walked downstairs passed the office and three cops were standing there telling him to follow the rules and if he didnt follow the rules he would, "go to jail" (yes...seriously) 5.) the first scary male teacher, the one that got in his face, stole his backpack and went through a backpack search. There was no incriminating evidence or reason to do this... My friend called him an asshole and then the principle came in and screamed at him. 6.) they called his parents (I talked to them) the office lady said he, 'threatened,' but when asked about it she couldnt say anything about it... That wasn't why they searched his backpack or called the police. I was there. I talked to the teachers and their excuse was completely different... according to them, "We didn't call the cops on him for not wearing a uniform, we called the cops because he wouldn't follow the rules" I told them that his phsyciatrist said this was the plan, the doctor even told them this! and yet, they refused to accommodate... (in a an accommodating school!!!!!) So... teachers lied, illegally searched student property, intimidated (the two inches away thing) ... physically threatened a student, and called the police on a student for not following school rules.... illegal? Anna, I agree. He's disruptive no matter what. The school has tried to FORCE medication on him. They try to indoctrinate his parents. I dont think it's their place to do that, but I do think he should be on medication personally. He's definitely not a typical kid.  more

Voting Question: Controversial School Issues?

I need to write a research paper on a controversial school issue that has to do with educational law. Some examples they gave were schools dress code, desegregation, and special education. I was going to do creationism vs evolution being taught in schools, but I was told that would be too broad. They want something local, even though every issue I see that's local is also found in many other schools. I need some ideas, because I'm completely stumped.  more

Resolved Question: What do you think of my Personal History Statement for graduate school?

I am applying to the Master's program at the University of California, Davis. I am switching academic fields--B.A. math to M.S. structural engineering. Their application packet requires two parts: Statement of Purpose(what I have done to prepare for grad school, research interest, career goals, etc...) and the Personal History Statement. The prompt for the Personal History Statement is: In an essay, discuss how your personal background informs your decision to pursue a graduate degree. Please include any educational, cultural, economic, or social experiences, challenges, or opportunities relevant to your academic journey; how you might contribute to social or cultural diversity within your chosen field; and/or how you might serve educationally underrepresented segments of society with your degree. My response: My early academic career was remarkable only in how it was characterized by one grade retention, suspensions, and an expulsion—I graduated high school with a 1.8 GPA. It was from this perspective I went into teaching—who better to teach at risk students than a former at risk student? My actual class room experiences exposed my naiveté and revealed a truth: African American youth do not have many role models. As an African American engineer, I hope to positively influence youth and expose them to career possibilities in the sciences and fields of technology. The acute shortage of minorities within the engineering profession is well known and, considering future shifts within the ethnic make-up of our society, poses a real threat to the integrity of our infrastructure. Eventually I hope to return back to the classroom with more experiences and applications of math that will foster teachable moments. My military service has provided challenges and opportunities. The events of September 11, 2001 necessitated my having to leave college and deploy to Iraq. My immediate response was one of trepidation at the prospect of having to reacquire the work ethic required of a student and the momentum that comes with steady progress; however, this feeling soon abated. Instead of atrophying my resolve to complete my education, my military service renewed my sense of urgency by giving me less time to complete my degree by the ideal age I arbitrarily chose. And, as a result of improved veteran’s educational benefits my service entitles me to, I am now able to pursue graduate studies with minimal extrinsic monetary support. My experiences in the military strongly influence my desire to study structural engineering. Having served in Iraq with soldiers who lost their lives to improvised explosive devices (IEDs), I want to contribute to the design of vehicles and protective gear that can better withstand the forces generated by these devices. Considering present threats and the associated future of counterinsurgency warfare, we will doubtlessly find ourselves in environs where IEDs will be the weapon of choice. The knowledge gained from an advanced degree in structural engineering will allow me to bring sound research and engineering practices to bear on an issue that will be with us for the foreseeable future. Lately, it seems there has been an earthquake somewhere in the world every month. Considering the seismic predictions for the continental United States and abroad, there will be many opportunities to contribute to the design of inexpensive survivable structures in economically disadvantaged areas. I look forward to volunteering my time with organizations such as Engineers without borders or taking assignments to Iraq or Afghanistan with the Army Corp of Engineers. My familiarity with the region coupled with an advanced structural engineering degree would allow me to affect social changes that would be appreciated for generations. MBS7107  more

Resolved Question: Does Yugioh Black Horn of Heaven negate Monster Reborn as it should?

Nothing right now just raged on yugioh onlijne about this and looked it up but not find issues totally related to the specific cards kept talk about solemn and thunder king something so thought try here. Please respond and help if you can but from my understanding of and studies of word and language the card would negate the summon of the monster not the spell itself as it involves the monster being summoned and says monster. It does not say the card only negates from chain or no chain it just says negate thus my card (well both are my cards in real life and online) however, they not during the duel. Thus that's why the questions is needed to be asked and if possible answered by someone who has credible source and knowledge of rules as well as also educational background into the technical and literal meanings of these cards since they try to sound so straight forward and grammatically correct, however. They are not most of the time and have many errors in the way they word the cards which cause disagreement and thus needs an look by an educated professional in my7 opinion so as to make sure people are playing and treating each other honestly and fairly like.  more

Voting Question: What do you think of my graduate school Personal History Statement?

This is the prompt: In an essay, discuss how your personal background informs your decision to pursue a graduate degree. Please include any educational, cultural, economic, or social experiences, challenges, or opportunities relevant to your academic journey; how you might contribute to social or cultural diversity within your chosen field; and/or how you might serve educationally underrepresented segments of society with your degree. My military service has brought many challenges and opportunities. After 9/11, my reserve unit was activated for two one year periods. Having to drop all classes mid-semester on two separate occasions taxed my resolve and the memory of fellow soldiers taxed me mentally. These issues coupled with financial hardships adversely affected my grades. Working forty hours a week as a security guard, I persevered, brought my homework and books to work, and managed to complete my degree with a 3.2 GPA. And now that the new Montgomery GI Bill has taken effect, I will be able to pursue a graduate degree free from financial worries. My early academic career was remarkable only in how it was characterized by one grade retention, high occurrences of suspensions, and one expulsion—I graduated high school with a 1.8 GPA. It was from this perspective I went into teaching. I thought, “who better to teach at risk students than a former at risk student?” My actual class room experiences debunked my assumptions and revealed a truth: African American youth do not have many role models at home. As an African American engineer, I hope to positively influence youth and expose them to career possibilities in areas other than entertainment. The acute shortage of minorities within the engineering profession is well known and, considering future shifts within the ethnic make-up of our society, poses a crippling threat to the integrity of our infrastructure; eventually I hope to return back to the classroom with more experiences and applications of math that will foster teachable moments. Voting Question: Can someone please help me out with my college application essay?!?

I am applying to Buffalo State College in New York and Im not sure which topic it would be categorized under. 1. Choose an issue impacting your high school, community, country or the world and why it is important to you. 2. If the campus you are applying to had only one space left in its freshman class, why should that space be offered to you? 3. How would your academic interests, personal perspectives, and life experiences add to the diversity of a college campus? 4. Tell us about a person or experience you have encountered. Describe how that encounter challenged you and resulted in personal growth. 5. Topic of your choice. Here is my essay. I am open to any and all feedback. Thank you!! President Barrack Obama once said, “Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.” The recession that our country is facing right now is effecting everyone. President Obama’s quote explains exactly how I feel about my decision to attend a university and obtain a virtually recession-proof career in the teaching profession. I was born in 1986 to a mixed-race mother of African -American and French-Canadian descent, and my father is Ukrainian. They married two years beforehand. I was the first child for my father, but the third for my mother. They had me at the age of 21. By that time, they knew that their educational journeys had come to an end and would spend the rest of their lives working and raising their children. They had overcome many hardships from, being ridiculed for being a multiracial married couple with children to having to keep us fed with a roof over our heads. My maternal grandmother always made sure to get us some, if any, school clothes and supplies so that we could at least feel better about our home life while at school. During high-school, I was ill most of the time due to being diagnosed with Diabetes and Asthma in the beginning of ninth grade, as well as being morbidly obese. I had a hard time concentrating in class as well as missing out on a lot of school and other opportunities. School was not important to me and I was beginning to think I was heading down the same road my parents had still been traveling down, so I struggled. After graduating high-school, I worked a few jobs to help out my parents instead of heading off to college. I was the first person out of my family to graduate high-school and given the opportunity to attend a university. I remember how proud they were when I was offered full-time employment at a local manufacturing plant. This was the type of job I was looking for. I worked 40 hours a week as well as up to 20 hours of overtime at $11.50 an hour. Little did I know that seven months later, I would be losing my job. I was devastated to learn that our country had gone into a recession and I had lost my job and wouldn’t find another anytime soon. I lived off unemployment for over two years. Even though it feels like I’ve always lived in a recession, my life right now is more effected than it was a few years ago. It becomes repetitive and almost hopeless filling out as many as one hundred applications and getting called for three interviews and not getting offered any employment. It’s very discouraging to know that without a college degree, you will get nowhere in life nowadays, compared to how things were when my parents were growing up. In conclusion, I agree with President Obama when he said, “Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.” Mr. Obama was right because I don’t consider my past as a punishment, but as a life lesson. I would like to give my children the many opportunities that I missed out on. I also would like to be someone that other children and students look to for guidance if they are ever in the same situation as I was in. I want children to know that teachers are supportive not only in school but in their home life as well.  more
