I'm currently a rising senior and am getting ready to apply for colleges. Art Early Childhood Education 1 Principles of Cosmetology Senior year: English Calculus Textiles Economics/Personal Finance French 3 Early Childhood Education 2 Advanced Art- Photography I do want to go to college. The colleges I'm considering are UCLA and USC, among many others. Those two are just my top choices. I want to be an actress, but my school has horrible funding, therefore doesn't have theatre classes nor a drama club. :( Anyway, I'd like to major in theatre/film in college, and maybe minor in something that involves working with children. What do you think? Also, if this adds anything (which it probably doesn't, but oh well) my extracurricular activites are dance team, art club, photography club and key club. I help instruct the children at the local children's theatre. It's like two of my passions combined, acting and being with kids. Besides that I try to be in as many community productions as possible. :) This may be a stupid question... but how do you get into AP classes? I honestly have no idea.  more

Resolved Question: Could you summarize or comment on the following article?

About The Board The Indiana Professional Standards Board is established to govern teacher training and licensing programs. Notwithstanding any other law, the board and the board's staff have sole authority and responsibility for making recommendations concerning and otherwise governing teacher training and teacher licensing matters. Public Law 46-1992 With these words the state legislature in 1992 created and empowered the Indiana Professional Standards Board. The Board's mandate encompasses all components of the education profession. The Board consists of nineteen members, eighteen of whom are appointed by the Governor, and the nineteenth is the State Superintendent of Public Instruction, who serves ex officio. Thirteen of the eighteen appointed members are required to hold an Indiana teacher's license and must be actively employed by a school corporation. These members represent specific subjects, positions, and grade levels. These include: a superintendent, two principals, a director of special education, an early childhood teacher, an elementary education teacher, a middle/junior high school teacher, a special education teacher, a vocational education teacher, a student services representative, an English/language arts teacher, a mathematics teacher, and a science teacher. Three members must represent Indiana teacher preparation units within Indiana public and private institutions of higher education. There are two public members, one a school board's representative, a second a business representative. Fulfilling the Mission In its first year, the Board decided to undertake two tasks. It moved to maintain and support the program areas of the state Department of Education, which had been placed under the Board's jurisdiction. It determined its mission and vision, which would serve as guides to long term goals and specific decisions. The Board determined that before it could adequately determine its mission and vision statements, it first had to understand the current research, trends, and issues in pre-kindergarten through grade twelve (P-12) education. Accordingly, the Board undertook a year of study during which its members both read extensively and heard from many national and state leaders in the preparation of education professionals and the fields of P-12 education. After this year of research, the Board wrote and adopted its Mission and Vision Statements. The first portion of the Board's Mission Statement reads " . . . to establish and maintain rigorous, achievable standards for educators beginning with pre-service and continuing throughout their professional careers." Initially, the Board assessed the current systems and practices in these areas and found that Indiana had strong programs in the preparation and induction of education professionals. However, the Board also believed, based on its research and dialogue with education leaders, that new goals and standards could elevate to even higher levels the quality of education professionals in the state. This belief was put into action in August of 1994, when the Board voted to adopt performance-based standards for the preparation and licensure of education professionals. The Board believes that performance-based standards will bring three advantageous results. First, these performance standards will reflect the growing national consensus on the knowledge, skills and dispositions needed to provide a high quality of instruction.. Second, these standards will provide a linkage to Indiana's goals for students in P-12 education, and last, these standards will focus on demonstrated ability to impart knowledge rather than considering only if an education professional has knowledge. A Unified System of Quality Assurance: Standards Supporting the Redesign The new performance-based licensing system will encompass the same three phases as the current model (preparation, induction and continued practice). The differences between the new and current models center on how education professionals are prepared and how candidates for licensure are assessed. The focus will be on achieving standards and the actual demonstration of understanding and application. Just as the goal for P-12 education is making learning a lifelong process for students, so the goal for teacher preparation is to make knowledge and skills related to teaching a career long process. Key to the reform of teacher preparation and licensure is a unified system of standards and assessments throughout the career of the education professional. An important foundation for Indiana's new system is the work done by professional organizations at the national level in setting standards for all phases which are interrelated and consistent. These groups include: The National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). NCATE provides a mechanism for voluntary peer regulation of the professional education. NCATE is designed to establish and uphold professional standards of exc  more

Resolved Question: General scientific knowledge quiz, and some interesting statistics about science, the public, and gender?

More Pew Research Center survey results! Lots of juicy statistics. This question's a big two-parter. So, first thing's first: this here's a 12-question quiz on some very basic (i.e. all reasonable to expect people to absorb from a high school education and at least a vague interest in current events) scientific facts: http://pewresearch.org/sciencequiz/ After you get your results, in addition to the crushing reality of your score, you'll notice a link on the left that says "Demographic breakdowns by question." This will take you to a page displaying very specific breakdowns of the quiz, and each question, by demographic groups. Seeing where other people screwed up is the cure to all ills when it comes to one's own screw-ups :) But this link is also why this question is in "Gender and Women's Studies," as opposed to "depressing reminders of your atrophying education." The test in general is broken down into age groups, education levels, and gender, as is each question. (Yes, the men fared better in general. No, it's not by much.) An interesting thing to notice is that the gender difference varies wildly depending on the question: for instance, on question 7, men scored fully 15% better than women, yet on question 10, women scored 10% better than men (it is also of note that question 10 is a true-or-false question, and men on average answered correctly LESS THAN HALF of the time). So, what did you get on the quiz, and is there anything interesting that you got wrong? (If you feel the need to inflate your score or to rationalize your mistakes, all I can say is you're the one who has to live with yourself :) ) And, the point of the question, can you make any rhyme or reason to why women did better on certain questions, while men did better on certain other questions? Part 2: This quiz comes attached to a larger survey about the public and science in general (according to the heading of the survey, the American public has a much higher opinion of its scientists than those scientists have of the public). The comprehensive publication of the results, along with the Center's explanation of them, can be found here: http://people-press.org/report/528/ I should note that the Pew Center surveyed only research professionals in medicine, biology, chemistry, geology, physics and astronomy when collecting what they were willing to call scientists' input. Take that, social scientists! (Really, it was probably to avoid getting too much of the political entrenchment characteristic to many of the other sciences contaminating the results.) Some of the more interesting stuff: •American scientists seem to think that the US is scientifically accomplished much more than the American public does: 94% of US scientists call the US’s scientific achievements ‘above average’ (with over half of those calling them ‘the best in the world’) while only 64% of the public uses such characterizations. •Scientists have some pretty severe gaps with public opinion on several issues. The public is divided over evolution (32% believing in it), human-affected global warming (49% conceding that this is going on), animal testing (52% supporting it), embryonic stem-cell research (58% public support for that), nuclear power (with 51% saying we need more nuclear plants), and even vaccinations (with a mere 69% saying all parents should vaccinate their children). The figures for scientists on these issues are 87%, 84%, 93%, 93%, 70%, and 82% respectively – several near-consensuses, and all of these figures leaps and bounds more positive than the general public opinions. •Scientists are not Republicans. In the general public, 35% are Democrats, 23% are Republicans, and 34% are Independents. 55% of scientists are Democrats, 32% are Independents, and a mere 6% of scientists identify as Republicans. So - do these figures surprise you? Do you find yourself in agreement with most scientists, or disagreement? Any ideas as to why these severe ideological gaps between the general public and the scientific community exist? Bluebeard's Wife: You've struck me as intelligent in the past - so I'll respond, though to be frank, this whole outburst of yours is kind of disappointing in the light that I had a somewhat elevated opinion of you. I'll say just this: in that profile where you identified that I was a physics 'student' (I'll let that slide :) ), it also says, verbatim, "I'm much more intelligent than anyone else, stunningly handsome to the point of driving passersby into religious comas, and extremely modest." If you take that seriously, as opposed to, say, assuming that it's self-aggrandizing hyperbole used for the purpose of humor, what does it take before you assume that something's a joke? But, since it apparently needs to be said: -The test is not easy (the average score was around two-thirds) -Scientist are not superior to everyone else, even though apparently many of us think we are, and -I don't actually comatize people with my good looks. I only mildly stun them.  more

Resolved Question: Is this a good response to the proposed Copenhagen Protocol?

This may be the best climate change post I have ever read. Source: http://en.cop15.dk/blogs/view+blog?blogid=1909# "Problem 1: There exists no subset of man that is smarter than the whole of mankind to decide how to allocate the resource we make of the earth and our ingenuity. That includes you, international panels, the IPCC, the United Nations Security Council, the U.S. Congress, and every other group that imagines that central control will do better than the rational decisions of 6.5+ billion people who are FREE people. Fix the FREEDOM issue, and we -- mankind -- will fix the other issues. No socialist adventure creates wealth, because the controls exercised by a relative few mandarins always are less efficient and far more destructive than the composite decisions made by millions of free people. Since your "climate justice" concept is socialist by design, it is not to be trusted, because it violates basic human liberty. Problem 2: All taxes tax the poor. It's not who writes the check, it's who pays the price. Every time some well-intentioned person insists that legally-obtained wealth should be confiscated and re-distributed, I can only shake my head in disbelief, for that person ignores the best and most equitable redistribution method ever devised: that wealth is used to invest (that means jobs created and wages paid) and to consume (that means jobs created and wages paid). The person who spends $5 million on a house now has an elegantly organized pile of rocks and metal and wood and whatnot, and the people who built it -- or mined the ore, or harvested the logs, or built the machines to help those processes -- now have the money. Tax that $5 million away from the one who had it, and you not only reduce the incentive to build wealth in everyone who is subject to those same rules, but you also pump a large portion of it into the hands of bureaucrats who do nothing productive, and who do not believe in the incentive process of the market. Initially, everybody loses except the bureaucrats, but the poor, whose lives are the most economically vulnerable, are the first to suffer. In the end, all mankind suffers from the reduction of wealth-creation incentive. Problem 3: The current "crisis", climate change, is a manufactured imagination, a perfect storm for grant-seeking scientists and control-seeking politicians. My education through college was in Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science. When I read the fantasies of the modelers, describing impending doom, it takes my breath away, because I know it is simply a lie. Not only are the models not empirically sound, leaving out major components of the climate system -- like precipitation, cloud albedo, convective heat transport, solar magnetic and particle influence -- and distorting others -- like the presumed positive feedbacks for water vapor, when earth's history has amply demonstrated a tendency to correct imbalance, not swing wildly into any sort of unrecoverable extreme, even when CO2 was more than 10 times what it is today. CO2 and water vapor act like window shades on the atmosphere: passing some IR radiation, absorbing some, and reflecting some. Water vapor is 50 times more of the atmosphere than CO2, so in a sense CO2 is the 51st window shade applied to the window of the earth. We all have felt the effect of a window shade. Now imagine a second shade applied to the same window: what the first one passed through, the second one gets to act upon. The effect of the second is logarithmically less than the first. By the time you get to the 51st window shade, CO2, the effect of each additional unit of so-called greenhouse gasses is reduced to almost nothing. And so it would be for the 52nd, and 53rd, etc. CO2 is NOT the driver of climate, and no amount of modeling will ever make it so. And that's before we get to the positive, absolutely necessary function of CO2 in the maintenance of life on the earth. Problem 4: So-called "green" energy technology advocates are simply lying when they talk about all the enterprise created by energy mandates: they ignore the "broken window" axiom of economics, which demonstrates that destroying something for the sake of replacing it with something else has a negative outcome on overall prosperity. Witness the need by those advocates (1) to subsidize such technologies, (2) to deceive people in how well they work and (3) how much they cost, (4) to marginalize competing technologies -- such as hydroelectric dams, nuclear power, and biofuel power production using renewable timber waste and the like -- (5) to downplay the huge grid reconstruction costs associated with widely dispersed and non-constant energy production, and (6) to ignore the storage issues that make for such technologies impossible to use for baseload power, when baseload power is always the backbone of, and cheapest part of, any energy delivery system. If some sort of international consensus for establishing control of the energy res Ooops, last paragraph got cut off: "If some sort of international consensus for establishing control of the energy resources of the planet is built in Copenhagen this year, the poorest of the planet should weep, because that consensus will be their death warrant, written by those in rooms illuminated and air-conditioned by inexpensive power, but read and lived out in huts with no more possibility of the prosperity that continuing access to inexpensive power could bring, all under the guise of "protecting" the earth from a trace gas that does no harm and is the fertilizer of everything green and growing." I thought that would bring out the political stripes. You guys on the far left are hard and fixed and closed minded and I would never give you control of anything in my life. You can't even hold a decent discussion without ending up at the point where you are "correct". ************************ By the way, I'm Liberal (slightly left of centre). You guys are Marxist/Communist/Socialist and you scare the crap out of me. You're telling me how I'm wrong, how you're right, what needs to be done, why it's the only way to do it and step aside if you're not on board. I'm with the Conservatives on this one. They may fly to my right but at least I can see them. You're so far left, you're in a fog bank. ************************** And you don't know the first thing about economics, although, that doesn't seem like a stumbling block.  more

Resolved Question: boyfriend issue-who can help?

Two years ago.i met a guy who was so cute, charming.funny etc.I felt like he was the best man on earth and he was meant for me.I immediately fell in love with him.He was the first guy i felt such special things for. The first 3 months things were excellent but suddenly he turned 180 degree. He became a real jerk.He said that he lied about all his life, about what he feels and thinks about me and that he played me for a fool.On the other hand he called me several times to say how much he loves and wants me for the rest of his life.In Feb. '09 we clearly broke up.Since then i couldn't shake off and come to life.My mind keeps telling me i should get rid of all the badness he caused. But the more i try to erase him the more he takes over me.I still want him, more than ever. Recently i found out he has a new girl, apparently he is moving on.But i can't do it.Yesterday when i called him to say hi he said i am still special for him. When i reminded him his current date he said:it is no big deal,no strings attached,i'm just filling time with her. Can you see how a disgusting guy is the first and the only love of my life?So i have 2 concerns after all that happened: 1)How will i get better? Why do i still want such a jerk in my life?Am i obsessed or is it the hope he gave is confusing my mind?I really want it all ended.there's no way we can be a couple. He's given too much pain,i even had to continue my college education one more year-the year i lost while i was running after him.He doesn't deserve my attention,i don't wanna think about him any more but how? 2)I obviously fell in love with the wrong guy.Now i can not trust myself, will i do the same mistake again?I know people usually live and learn but i am 24 now,i should have been through such things when i was 18 or 19.Aren't i a little old to become a dumb when i fall in love. How many times should my heart break till i learn about men and love? I know it is long. Each answer is precious for me cause it's not a science question, there are surely so many solutions.I am open for any advice.thanks in advance.  more

Resolved Question: Should I get my High School Diploma or G.E.D? [MENSA Member]?

I am 18, and I am still in High School, and have some current issues about my High School Education and where I should go. I have about 12 Credits needed out of 24, soon to be 27. However, I haven taken upper level Classes: - AP Physics - AP Chem - AP Calc AB, BC - AP Music I have also won international awards for playing Clarinet, Math Awards and I am a Member of MENSA. (Please don't leave comments about I should be smart and know what to do - we are people too.) The credits that I am missing are a lot of the "Humanity Classes" and English Credit. I am well inclined in Science and Mathematics, but still lack Science Credit. But I am still missing about 2 years worth of credits. I would like to attend University as I feel High School is very oppressing and to my maturity level. I also disapprove of current teaching techniques. Or at least attend Community College to correct my GPA which I am sure is awful. I would enjoy learning about my topics at much higher levels. I am also very scholarly, and I know I will end up perusing a live in Academia and Research. So I really don't mind spending extra years in school. I also operation my own business and I make enough to support myself, profits of around 30K/year so far, but Research is where I belong, and I wish to attend a Top University in Genetics and Scientific Research. I am unsure if I should just take my G.E.D, and then apply to Community College to correct things, as I know I will perform just well on entrance exams. I even have AP Credit (But Failed the Class as I did not like the way things were going.) Thank you for your time! - Christopher  more

Resolved Question: Can someone grade this essay on 1 out of 10 point scale?

Think carefully about the issue presented in the following excerpt and the assignment below: When someone has the same ideas or views as most people do, we tend to believe that the person is reasonable and correct. Often, however, views that are considered reasonable or commonsensical are anything but sensible. Many widely held views regarding current events, science, education, arts and literature, and many other topics ultimately prove to be wrong. The fact that an idea or view is widespread—held by many people—does not make it right. Assignment: Are widely held views often wrong, or are such views more likely to be correct? Plan and write an essay in which you develop your point of view on this issue. Support your position with reasoning and examples taken from your reading, studies, experience, or observations. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Are views that claim a majority likely to be correct while minor views are often incorrect? People are often overconfident about their decisions. They intend to think that they are often correct if a lot of people support them. However, they can are often wrong. For example, humans have once thought that the world was shaped in a square, and many were afraid to venture off, fearful that they will fall off the edge. Another time was when people incorrectly thought that the planets evolved around the earth. Both cases had a large group of individuals supporting them. Although groups were supporting the cases, they proved to be incorrect. I believe that widely held views are often wrong because people might react from what they see, the popularity of an idea, and deceptive leaders who might give the wrong idea or theory. It is important to be cautious of the side you choose. People have experience in their lives and it helps people learn from their mistakes. They later come to a point where they become overconfident. They intend to act before they think and end with an inaccurate conclusion. For instance, in 1929, one of the reasons the Great Depression was caused was because families were all taking their money out of the bank at the same time. Some didn’t feel the need to take their money out until they saw everyone else doing it. These mistakes are understandable because people think that such decisions do not need to be thought over since such a large group supports it. Sometimes, decisions can be made from how popular it is. When people support an idea, it might because of their own experiences and their feelings toward it. An example of this was when the Twin Towers were bombed by terrorists on September 11, 2001. Most of the Americans were ready to avenge their families and capture Osama Bin Laden, the organizer of the Twin Tower terrorist attack. Therefore, the idea to fight the terrorists was widespread and agreed on. This caused the start of Iraq War and did not create any benefits for America. Everyone was disappointed to see the effect of the war and it became a very unpopular idea. The popularity of an idea might blind people from seeing what it really is. Leaders have qualities that can either cause people to agree, calm down, or take action. They might be the ones who are misleading and can cause everyone to look at the wrong alternative. Some may be thirsty for power or bitter about something. One leader that misled his people was Adolf Hitler, who had caused all the Germans to think that the Jewish were the reason of their problems. The millions of Germans agreed with Hitler. Therefore, they took action and World War II began. In result, thousands of Jewish people died. Later, the Germans repented and apologized. It was a devastating effect and it was all because of a resentful, power hungry leader. I think we need to watch out for the right leaders to follow and trust. Given these facts, I think that widely held views are often wrong. Many things can go wrong and these opinions can be made inaccurately. When people do make their decisions, they can make their decision based on everybody else’s, the feelings and the popularity toward an idea, and misleading leaders who drill the wrong idea into their followers. It’s important to do what you feel is right.  more

Resolved Question: what is President Barack Obama's Leadership style?

For extra credit my political science teacher has allowed me to write a short (one page or less paper) about a president and their leadership style. I decided to talk about Barack Obama's Leadership style... yet I'm having some trouble coming up with ideas of what to say about his leadership style....any suggestions??? you don't have to read the following, but this is what i have so far.... i don't know if it's a good start or what? political science just isn't my thing =( Our new President, Barack Obama, definitely has a unique leadership style. President Obama is a great speaker; he shows authority and confidence in his speeches which in turn makes many American Citizens feel comfortable with him leading the nation. His priorities are to fix economy, health, and environmental issues. One of his main priorities is to fix education. In one of his speeches he brought up the No Child Left Behind policy which was done with great intent and good reasons, however, the resources for making it a success were not in place. It seems that instead of teaching they’re more concerned with testing the children. He’s excellent at choosing the right people to be put into major positions of authority within his administration. For example Vice President Joe Biden’s past experience in shaping U.S. foreign policy such as issues relating to terrorism, weapons of mass destruction and domestic issues is well needed with the current status quo of the United States.  more

Voting Question: Republicans: Why is there only one major scientific organization that rejects man-made climate change?

And even they agree that man-made CO2 could possibly be a contributor. Otherwise...all the other major scientific organizations around the world agree man-made climate change is the culprit: Here is a few for example: American Geophysical Union The American Geophysical Union (AGU) statement, [36] adopted by the society in 2003 and revised in 2007, affirms that rising levels of greenhouse gases have caused and will continue to cause the global surface temperature to be warmer. Geological Society of America In 2006, the Geological Society of America adopted a position statement on global climate change: The Geological Society of America (GSA) supports the scientific conclusions that Earth’s climate is changing; the climate changes are due in part to human activities American Meteorological Society The American Meteorological Society (AMS) statement adopted by their council in 2003 said: There is now clear evidence that the mean annual temperature at the Earth's surface, averaged over the entire globe, has been increasing in the past 200 years. There is also clear evidence that the abundance of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere has increased over the same period. In the past decade, significant progress has been made toward a better understanding of the climate system and toward improved projections of long-term climate change... Human activities have become a major source of environmental change. Royal Meteorological Society (UK) In February 2007, after the release of the IPCC’s Fourth Assessment Report, the Royal Meteorological Society issued an endorsement of the report. In addition to referring to the IPCC as “world’s best climate scientists”, they stated that climate change is happening as “the result of emissions since industrialization and we have already set in motion the next 50 years of global warming American Association of State Climatologists The Association has no current statement. The previous statement, discussed below, became inoperative in 2008. A committee has been formed to develop a new statement. The 2001 statement from the American Association of State Climatologists noted the difficulties with predicting impacts due to climate change, while acknowledging that human activities are having an effect on climate: American Geological Institute In 1999, the American Geological Institute (AGI) issued the position statement ‘’Global Climate Change’’: The American Geological Institute (AGI) strongly supports education concerning the scientific evidence of past climate change, the potential for future climate change due to the current building of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases, and the policy options available. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientific_opinion_on_climate_change Can Republicans get their heads out of the sand and join the world community in fighting man-made emissions and their impact on the environment?? Shut off Rush Limbaugh, shut off the propaganda by the coal/oil companies, shut off all those ignorant talking heads. Start looking at the science. D.C: I searched for that organization, I could not find it. Can you give me a link to them? 60 Mins man: Dude, scientists have take ice core samples which show that when CO2 goes up in the atmosphere, the Earth gets warmers. There has been regular cycles of this happening throughout history but the difference today is that CO2 levels a a lot higher then they were in the past 65, 000 years. If you look at a chart, you will see that. If that's not proof, I don't know what is. You climate skeptics use the same tactics that Creationists use too...you just poke holes in the science and come up with your own wacked out theories that have no scientific foundation and the game goes on.  more

Resolved Question: GCSES - Need Help with Future?

Well, I have chosen my course I am taking in college which are: Law Government and Politics Psychology Film Studies What I need to know is, wort sort of GCSE grades should I achieve to even consider law? I also plan to study law at University level, and hopefully get a masters/Doctorate in Law. So basically, need to know the minimum GCSES possible to consider it? I take my exams this year, and my current predictions are at: English - A Science - A/A* Mathematics - A* Sociology - A General Studies - A Media - A/A* BTEC Business Studies - Distinction (Equivalent to four A*/A grades) Physical Education - A Are these good enough? Or would I need to get my english up to A*? (I am currently comfortably sitting on an A but I would need to re-do over 100 pages of english coursework(yes, I write a lot) and I don't think it is worth the time since I may still fall short of an A*, so I am considering leaving this at A so I can concentrate on Science more?) My sciene is an issue, my Physics are currently at A*, marking usually 38-40/40 on every Physics exam (I think in the 1% of the UK?) but my chemistry is abissmal, but my biology is satisfactory. Should I shift my english time to science? Any answer is helpful  more

Resolved Question: What would be the best college major for me considering pay and schooling time? ?

Ok so I am applying to all these scholarship programs and they are asking me for possible majors. It’s about time that I make a decision about what exactly I want to do. Like it or not, salary is a huge issue because of our struggling economy. The only way I will make it is if I have a good paying job. I picked a few and was hoping someone who maybe holds a current job in this category or maybe people who were thinking themselves about these possible majors when they were ready to graduate high school could give me their opinion. Now these are majors I’m interested in, I refuse to do something that I have absolutely no interest in at all. Math and Science are my main passions. So please tell me, if you were a high school junior ready to apply for college, what major would seem the best to you considering salary and college time? Marine Biology and Biological Oceanography- This was a dream of mine since I was a little girl. The only problem is the pay. It’s basically a lot of school for nothing in return. If I had a family inheritance to back me up this would be my 1st choice hands down. Architectural Engineering- I love designing things, especially buildings. I love the pay for this type job, and I find it to be very interesting. It’s just a lot of school and advanced math classes that I would have to prepare for… Anatomy- Just a thought. I don’t know how I react to blood. But the schooling takes forever. Medical science interests me but not as much as the others. Fire Protection- My late father was a fire protection engineer. He made enough money to support my spoiled self, my sister and sick mother. The only reason I have such a chance in the world is because he made enough money to pay my college education. I already know much of what the job takes, so I was considering this as an option. Astronomy- I live about 4 hours from NASA and have been a few times. I’m amazed at the technology they have developed and have a huge interest in space. Again, schooling and pay play a huge factor. Journalism- I love writing and am very good at it. Pay is great if you’re lucky enough to find a good magazine or newspaper to work for. Just a backup plan really. Law (LL.B., J.D.)- I once wanted to be a lawyer but it has slipped away lately. Very boring job and now that I’ve had some experience with lawyers, they seem bloodthirsty and money hungry. I really don’t want to sell my soul to something like that. But the pay is amazing…. So please, tell me what you think. I’ve talked to many people including a guidance counselor and they just tell me to do what I want. Problem is I don’t know exactly what I want. Any and all opinions would be appreciated. I have to choose a major soon because I am planning on starting my 1st year of college in the fall (early grad options) Nursing is something that I really don't want to do. For some reason I will only so medical science if I can be a doctor and not a nurse. I just don't see myself in nursing....  more

Resolved Question: Here is my basic proposal on a new system of public education. What is your opinion?

On the Issue of Education The goal of public education is to provide a well-rounded education as well as an opportunity to follow a more narrowed path towards a desired career. Students will be required to learn the basic subjects: English, math, history, science, music/art, nutrition and physical fitness. Once the core requirements have been completed, students will be able to choose a path, if confident about their career choice, or be able to continue pursuing the liberal arts while be able to experiment with other subjects as well. By providing interests that will cater to all, we hope to decrease the drop out rate and have stronger young men and women entering the workforce upon graduation. Schooling is mandatory for all children ages five to sixteen unless special circumstances may arise. The federal government will contribute at least forty cents for every dollar spent on public education and more may be allotting if deemed necessary. Since the government is contributing a large amount, certain guidelines will be put into effect concerning how the money is to be spent. Since technology is constantly changing the face of our school system, a committee will be summoned every five years to make adjustments to the current schooling system and budget. The curriculum will be left to the states to decide but there will be nationalized tests to be sure that all states are providing education at an expectable level. In the sixth grade students will be tested on the following subjects and skills areas: Reading and interpreting passages and their ability to write Basic mental math skills and be able to complete problems that will prepare them for higher level math Analyze scientific graphs and know basic facts of the different divisions of science Answer multiple choice questions on general United States and world history Once into high school students will be required to complete a certain number of courses before graduation. This is to give every student a basic knowledge and for those who are unsure of what to do next, this curriculum will help students realize what it is they are truly interested in. Although these courses are required for students, there is the possibility of testing out of the subject to not make learning repetitive and dull. Required courses are as follows: Three years of English Two years of math Two years of world history One year of United States history Two years of science Art history, studio art, history of music or music course Nutrition and health Physical fitness Once the required courses have been completed, or fulfilled by adequate testing, students can choose a track they wish to pursue. There will be upper level courses in all the basic subjects. Schools should also provide courses in computer science, business, drama, film, and other areas schools wish to include. Students may also receive credits through a work-study program if pre-approved by the school. Qualifications for the work study program involve: School approved job Reports from employer on employee status Current resume and ability to make good cover letter Ability to still take courses in school while maintaining a job (Course load will be lower for those participating in the work study program) There should also be a trade school where students can become certified in a certain profession by the time they graduate from high school and proceed directly into the work force. Such programs may include but are not limited to: Auto body repair and technology Computer technology Carpentry Cosmetology Criminal Justice Culinary Arts Early Childhood Education Electrical Technology Electronic Technology Fashion Design Nursing Assistant Plumbing/Heating and Air Conditioning Small Animal Care Welding With increased courses being offered to students, number of school buildings themselves will need to be cut to allow all schools to be equal and to adequately use the federal funding. Students may have to commute thirty or more minutes to school each day. Resolved Question: Help me please!! dismissed from graduate school!!?

Hi. I am in graduate school in computer science(M.S) and have been academically dismissed as I had two F grades in my second semester. I had to do odd jobs (gas stations, fast foods, factories et al) to get through to paying for my school and I also had other economic issues. I have found someone to fund my education now (in family) but I have been dismissed and am looking to join a new school and start fresh. But I am wondering if I have any chance at all and if anyone would accept me at all! I am in Alabama and am open to any state. Right now I am looking at CUNY- Staten Island or Cooper University. I want to be sure before I make a long drive up or anywhere to meet and discuss with faculty and apply to school if it is at all possible. Please help me with some universities. Possibly some which have very low standards and would accept me despite being academically dismissed from my current school. Really appreciate your help! Thanks!  more

Resolved Question: Horrible with Grammar and sentence structure--plus no spell check-- this is a college paper?

**Please tell me what you thing---I have always been horrible with the subject English so please keep your rude comments to yourself.** This is just a rough draft...i just need a peer editing i guess... Its suppose to be a reflective analysis.... indigenous Worldview of Yupiaq Culture I found this material so interesting because of the current issues of Western technology, science, and culture that are affecting cultures; mostly the Yupiaq tribe in Alaska. Many of our education classes at Western, teach us to respect and understand other cultures, and try to incorporate their culture into the lesson as we teach it. This will allow for the younger generations to relate and understand their culture and elders. Without the passing of knowledge from the elders to the younger generations; the culture will lose precious knowledge and insight that took the culture and tribes hundreds of years to learn through the passing down of information. Even though this is not being done with any Alaskian Natives, let alone any Natives in America. Each culture is losing their language, traditions, and their identities. The Yupiaq tribe views science and knowledge as observations and through many trial and error experiments. Even though through Western science, we would not include this in science since its not done in laboratories or does not change the course of history. I believe that this is the reason why many of the Alaskian Natives are not doing well in school. The people have come to learn that science is hands-on-learning incorporated with "art, storytelling, guided practices, peer tutoring, hunting, and craftsmanship". Not a "body of knowledge discovered by scientists working in their laboratories" which is how science is being taught to them. Science is a very hard subject to grasp, and when your culture doesn't even have a word for science, its like trying to have a student understand the concept of an atom size. The Yupiaq tribe has learned to make special nets to catch fish, canoes, and have learned when to pick berries at a specific time to have the best benefit to the tribe. This paper also focuses on how as a society only focusing on Euro-American science, we lose knowledge and insight that other cultures that could contribute to our society. The reason we are losing this insight is with the lost of the Yupiaq's culture as stated above. With what I would call the dumbing down of all the cultures, think of all that knowledge that has been lost since it was considered not important enough or "not considered science". The only thing that stumps me about Euro-American science is how did science become what it is today? Western science came about through observations of the sky and stars. So why are people and scientist ruling out so many cultures knowledge? Is there still the concept of white male superiority over minorities? With this attitude, so many ideas and knowledge have been lost since they have been over looked or forgotten. **Please tell me what you thing---I have always been horrible with the subject English so please keep your rude comments to yourself.** This is just a rough draft...i just need a peer editing i guess... Resolved Question: Is moving schools in year 10 a bad idea?

I've just started year 10 at my current school but I'm thinking of moving to a local grammar school. My school isn't too bad, it's just that I have major issues with my science class. Because I took extra science, it's a mixed ability class and mostly the class is made up of boys that just want to mess about. Although this isn't the only reason I want to move, it is a major factor. Many of the characters at my school are...unsavoury shall I say as are most of the people in my town. The grammar school is in a more upper class town and is single sex so I was hoping that there would be less distractions and more people that I can relate to there as at my current school many people see me as a "posh swot". It's only 1 month into the year but would moving be more detrimental to my education that positive? I'm predicted an A in science and there are people in my class who are predicted D's. It's a big class as well so I'm concerned that during lessons the teachers are focusing more on foundation level stuff rather than the higher grade material.  more

Resolved Question: What subculture stereotype am I? Hipster? Yuppie? Geek? Something else?

Extensive information. What subcultural stereotype best applies? 24 year old white male 6', 250 lbs. Upbringing: Grew up mostly in a small-medium-sized city in southern Missouri. Upper middle-class. Lived in Central America for a few years. Education: Three years at a state college, pursuing a BA in Religious Studies, double minoring in Philosophy and Political Science. Dropped out for financial reasons (had no parental help). Career: I have two contracts (self-employed). One as a writer of tech & gaming news on the internet. Second doing market research for an entrepreneur. Together they pay 35-40k. Long term career goal is to become financially stable enough to start my own business related to the visual arts and the online media. Very little interest in having a family, and would rather die than move back to the suburbs. Current living situation: Live with one roommate in a working class Hispanic immigrant neighborhood near downtown Chicago. Plan to get a studio in a more upscale (but still very urban) neighborhood in January. Politics: Democrat, but more liberal on social and foreign policy issues. More conservative on economic issues. Radical internationalist and free trader. Books: "The Stranger" by Albert Camus, "Solaris" by Stanislaw Lem, "Big Sur" by Jack Kerouac, "At the Mountains of Madness" by H.P. Lovecraft Movies: French new wave films (esp. François Truffaut), moody Sci-fi like Blade Runner and Aliens, films of Billy Wilder, Audrey Hepburn movies, films of Wong Kar Wai, films of Werner Herzog. So mostly classics and foreign. TV: 30 Rock, Mad Men, Weeds. Music: M.I.A., Asobi Seksu, Common, Philip Glass, Rachid Taha, The Streets, Goldfrapp, Nine Inch Nails Glasses: Sleek, black-rimmed Emporio Armani wraparounds. Tops: Button up dress shirts from JC Penney or other department stores mostly -- J Ferrar and Stafford. Dark, solid colors. Usually not tucked in. Bottoms: Pants are Dockers or St. John's Bay khakis. Sometimes cargo pants, but usually dressy khakis, off-white or dark brown. Shoes: Black or brown loafers. Other relevant info: Total technophile. Have an HDTV, PS3, MacBook Pro, and an iPhone. Don't like fancy restaurants; mostly try to go to the cheapest Thai or Chinese food place I can find. Not particularly anti-corporate or into organic, free trade, or vegan anything. I think the website Stuff White People Like is hilarious and familiar but it only 40% applies to me. I'm in the heart of hardcore geek culture because I write about video games and gadgets for a living, but I feel very disassociated because I've never gotten into comic books and the whole escapist fantasy subculture (ie, Star Wars). Very snobbish about films but not about music. Love the show Frasier and everything it stands for, but can afford nothing that it stands for (fine wines, opera, etc). Obsessed with politics. Also like some oddball things, like burlesque. Heroes are Werner Herzog, Steve Jobs, François Truffaut, Albert Camus, and Mikhail Gorbachev. Should clarify on "Religious Studies" -- was secular study of religion, not seminary or anything. I'm agnostic and very serious about being irreligious.  more

Resolved Question: can someone help me shorten my work ?

the assignment is all together worth 50 points but the one question is wroth 30 points! this is for my education class. assignment- this is an election year and as young voters and or future teachers you should have first hand info. on the educational position that the republican and democratic presidential candidates have. look up each one of their positions on education reform and critique it. so i went on both the candidates sites and went under issues and then to education and read their views and explained what they wanted to do and i tried to critique it but i think i ddidn't... here is what i wrote. Republican candidate John McCain’s education reform policy wants to build on to The No Child Left Behind plan by maintaining the current emphasis standards and accountability however he does not believe in focusing on state averages. John McCain wants to provide schools with quality teachers by encouraging alternative certification programs by devoting five percent of Title II funding money to states to recruit teachers whom graduate in the top of their class’s 25 percent tile or those who participate in alternative teaching recruitment programs. Alternative teaching can be quality teachers but if the certification is rushed then teachers might not be as prepaid as those non-alternative teachers. Additional money should be given to students in college who are majoring in teaching in the form of grants and scholarships. John McCain would also like to give 60 percent of title II money to award teachers directly who teach in failing schools bonuses and for teachers that teach in math and science and teachers who demonstrate student improvement. McCain would use 35 percent of Title II founding would go to principals and teachers in order for them to focus on their school needs. This will allow the principal of the schools have more control over what the money is spent on to improve their school. Under McCain the D.C Opportunity scholarship money will increase from $13 million a year to $20 million a year and benefit nearly a thousand more families that make an average income of $23,000 a year. The program helps parents take their children out of failing schools and place them in a better learning environment. Five hundred million dollars in current federal funding would help to build new virtual schools and support online courses not just for dual enrollment for college students but for regular class and enhancement classes. John McCain would give $250 million through a completive grant program those supporting states that expand online AP math and science courses and computer courses and tutoring support for students in public schools and foreign language courses. This program along with his $250 digital passport scholarship program will allow students to have credit recover courses and SAT/ACT prep courses. The virtual passport program would not only apply to public schools but to charter schools and home schooled students. Democrat Barack Obama education reform plan includes keeping the NCLB act but changing the act so that there is more funding for it but schools are not ranked by standardized test. Obama believes like many other teachers believe that most of the school year is wasted forcing students to prepare for standardized test and not spend focusing on learning the material on an affective time scale. Obama would like to make math and science classes better by recruiting math and science degrees into teaching. The U.S has the highest developed country drop out rate so Obama plans to invest in personal academic plans and teaching teams and parent’s involvement and mentoring in middle schools. He also wants to double the founding for after school programming by double which will not only give kids with parents that work late or live in bad neighborhoods a safe environment to play and get help they may need with homework. Obama also wants to invest in summer learning programs to help students get extra help for those in low family incomes. Obama supports programs such as GEAR UP, TRIO and Upward Bound. Programs like this make it possible for low income families to consider planning for college. Obama makes knows that in order for students to do well the teachers must also be well educated. Obama plans to create new teaching service scholarships that cover four years of undergraduate or two years of graduate and high-quality alternative programs to help prepare more alternative teachers. In order to better prepare alternative teachers Obama will expand on mentoring programs for alternative teachers. This allows new teaches with less experience in the field to be paired with a more experienced teacher that will help them make their class room time more efficient. By paying the mentoring teachers extra money to mentor new recruited teachers more teachers will be better prepaid to teach. Like McCain, Obama wants to increase the pay of teachers who work in more poor schools. Obama wants to ma how should i critique it? should i say i believe Obama will be able to do this or that or not be able to do this or that and so on and the same for McCain? how should i state what i think....to be honest w/ u i think both of them have real good ideas. both will help in different ways.  more

Resolved Question: What will The Seeker ask the rep. vice presidential candidate?Asperger, celiac Hunter/gatherer?

I am the Seeker. I am an self proclaimed Asperger 5. This is a full functioning autistic. I have a peculiar savant. I have an attention for details. Now I wasn't always Class 5 asperger. I had severe ADHD and mild bipolarity. With a new science coming out that may actually change the FDA food chart, with the simple fact she is of the same gene as I. The HLA DQ2 and The HLA DQ8 genetic markers for celiac. Celiacs sprue is currently the number one misdiagnosed genetic malfunction and deadly auto immunal disease. The sciences are clearly pointing to the same thing on scales that are shocking, yet remain unaddressed. The Seeker has more than just the simple knowledge of how to fix health care. The Seeker is the number one misdiagnosed man surviving the toughest physical job in america. What he knows is so valuable to either party, that his input may actually sway the vote to either side. I have knowledge of immigration that is more than firsthand. I know all the methods of ops for the illegal immigrant communities. I know more than what is wrong with our economy, and I have more of the solutions that would undeniably and accurately Sway the vote. The knowledge locked in this idiots head, could reshape america. To further loose creditability in what I specialize in, What is happening to our revered senior population. I know what to do about managing and restructuring our american workforce. I am the backbone of America. Mr bush himself has stated this. I am A fine drywall specialist. I have the perfect method of drywall that should be instituded as code. The mental illnesses I "claim " to have recovered from are the same marker as the Republican Vice presidential candidate. My genetic marker is shared with 43 percent, minimumistically of the US population. I pose this question to either side of the fence. I also make a clear statement. I as an Infantry soldier, I who am considered mentally ill and incompetent, want to here an answer to one solid question before this soldier decides which side of the fence he sits. If my theories, Dr. Peter Greenes theories, and Dr. Alessio Fasano's theories all point to the republican vice presidential candidates autistic son, will any candidate take the, Adopted, autistic son of a Senior Pharmaucutical lobbiest retire, seriously? I am a true asperger five. Will you look to the seeker speaking in third party with mental illness, for questions and answers that the public truly want to know about? The seeker needs a job. The seeker needs a purpose other than being a mud specialist. I will work diligently to the point of amazing OCD. The question to the candidates is as follows.... With the FDA food chart being so politically incorrect, with wheat being named a number one enemy on the war on cancer, Parkinsons, autism, eldsheimers,Diabetes, heart disease,Epilepsy,MS,Occular degeneration,Eating disorder, ETC, ETC,... Do you get my miandering point? This makes the tabacco industry look like it was run by saints. Please restore my faith in the governmental systems. Please reintegrate, the word of Joe Publics concerns. Reninstill our faith. I can even raise a ruccuss heard to the heavens, just on new labor law. I can accurately address the workers comp issue. It failed me miserably. I can tell you what is up with healthcare in the insurance run business. We need government intervention from the insurance monopoly. I love my wife, I love life, and wish to be of more survice to my country. I am the mentally handicapped, you even get a tax break on my salary! Consider me a war hero that suffered right here on the home front. I am happy to be alive! Ask me why. The only current credibilty I have is small. Resolved Question: Can I get into graduate school with a transcript from hell?

here is my history: i went to a college for a semester to major in spanish and education. i transferred to another college (my current one) where i started a degree in english and education. after finishing most of the program i decided not to major in education. my last semester in the education program i failed out of the education classes (2 w, 1 b, 1 d, 1 f) then i transferred to another college to start an engineering degree but had to drop chem and calc and got an f in biology. i transferred back to my old college and am graduating with a degree in engineering and english. i have since retaken all the science and math classes i have failed, but not the education classes. 2007 was a very bad year for me as i was working full-time at a horrible job and a family member got cancer. plus i transferred to a school without having any idea how hard the math and science classes would be. i want to go to grad school but i am afraid my transcript looks horrible. my total college transcripts gpa will be 3.0, my gpa for my alumni school will be 3.2 and my engineering major gpa will be 3.4.... any suggestions for graduate school? do you think i could get in? how would you describe the bad grades in a letter of intent without seeming like you are trying to make excuses. i can handle life. i just had a very bad year. i have some applied experience mostly from projects in class where we worked with local gov and corps. i can get good letters of recommendation. i have no research work, though i might do some next spring (while i wait for fall, fall only acceptance). also i would still have to take 2 more prereq classes for this program in spring. how would i write all this in a letter of intent? sorry if this is not very coherent... i am very stressed about this issue!  more

Resolved Question: Can someone grade this SAT Essay please? (1 out of 6)?

Think carefully about the issue presented in the following excerpt and the assignment below. When someone has the same ideas or views as most people do, we tend to believe that the person is reasonable and correct. Widely held views are often proved to be wrong. History has also shown this outcome with the view that the Earth was flat, but then proved to be round. Many people once believed that the planets revolved around the Earth before it was proved that our solar system revolves around the sun. Even in the recent years, most people believed that John Kerry was going to win the presidential election, but then the events that happened in Florida led to the resignation of John Kerry running for president, leaving George Bush to become the president for his second term. When many people believed that the Earth was flat, there were only a few others thought differently. Those few who held the opposite views about the Earth were correct. They proved that the Earth was round through experiments and logic, rather than just accepting what someone said. In the medeval times, many people believed every word that the Church said, from accusing women being witches to give offerings to the Church to be saved from salvation from God. Now, it has been proved that there are no such things as witches except in folklore and fairytales. Salvation from God is only a belief of the religious, but has never been proved to be true. Even in my life, I learned certain things that were ultimately proved wrong over the years. I was taught that Pluto was a planet in elementary school, only to find out just recently that people are now saying that Pluto isn’t a planet. These widely held views that everyone knows can be disproved in an instant. Most of the time they are likely to be wrong, and history has shown that to be true. Society today is just too accepting of an idea that someone spouts, rather than questioning its origins and actually delving further to see if the idea is really true or false. People should become more cynical of ideas or at least open to the fact that widely held views can be changed at anytime, rather than just accepting them to be correct. This is why most teachers don’t like Wikipedia, because of its views. The subjects written on Wikipedia are just widely held beliefs without any concrete background evidence. That’s why teachers still advocate the use of books for sources of evidence rather than the Internet. So, the next time you decide to accept an idea, be prepared to know that in time, it will be proved wrong.  more

Resolved Question: Question for Nurses who are not "people" persons?....?

Please don't take my question the wrong way! Or tell me that my choice of education is an "inappropriate" fit. I am a Pre-Med student who will be obtaining an LPN diploma in the next year so I can work a few shifts a week and still make enough money to pay for university and rent (LPNs in my province are more like diploma RNs and make $26/hr). My issue is, although I give excellent care to the Residents in my current job as a PN student, I know that I think more "like a doctor" and not a nurse. I have a pleasant bedside manner, but other than that, I could never see myself happy as an RN. I think in terms of facts, figures, pathology, data, diagnostics, etc. and have a hard time "making small talk" and providing that nurturing care that nurses often choose the profession for. I treat my Residents extremely well medically with kindness and a smile, but I don't have that "mothering urge". If you are more of a techinical/science person and not a people person... what advice to you have to someone like me in a similar situation? I find myself looking over test results and asking diagnostic questions over just spending time with the patient. For whatever reason, I just don't find the scope of nursing satisfying, but I want to work in healthcare until I can finish my MD and this is the only way I can afford to do it. Help please! P.S. I want to give the best care to my patients as possible, so please, no rude comments or judging if you disagree with my statements. If you saw me at work, you'd have no idea how I feel. I just have no idea how to keep this up and be happy for the next 2 years or so... Steve, thanks, but you seem to have missed that I DO provide reassurance and a friendly disposition to those in my care. I ALWAYS keep in mind that my voice may be the last they hear. I already am working in a nursing environment, and those I work with think I do a great job. My point is that I think I will get burnt out, because I want to help patients from more of a medical aspect than nursing care. I need advice on how to manage for the next couple of years until I (presumably) get into med school. Thanks. Thank you Harley for your advice.  more

I am non-partisan at this point, so any party is welcomed to give their point of view Please forgive my spelling, I'm not stupid but for some reason I can't spell worth a damn and my spell checker isn't working. Also, positions are one thing but a detailed plan on how to bring it to fruition is another. I want insite into detailed plans. Links are a big help here Boss H, that's kind of funny. My father tells me I'm as qualified as any candidate on the ballot and already have a better insite. I just laugh. You sicken me, Robert K, once said a conversation in a room with four people can create a ripple in so great that the wave on shore can bring down the walls of communisium or didn't you show up for class that day.  more

Resolved Question: Science Daily reports Women have an advantage in memory. What do you think?

Sex Differences In Memory: Women Better Than Men At Remembering Everyday Events ScienceDaily (Feb. 21, 2008) — There are several human characteristics considered to be genetically predetermined and evolutionarily innate, such as immune system strength, physical adaptations and even sex differences. These qualities drive the nature versus nurture debate and ask of our species, who is more successful and why? Psychologists Agneta Herlitz and Jenny Rehnman in Stockholm, Sweden asked an even more complicated question of human predisposition: Does one’s sex influence his or her ability to remember every day events? Their surprising findings did in fact determine significant sex differences in episodic memory, a type of long-term memory based on personal experiences, favoring women. Specific results indicated that women excelled in verbal episodic memory tasks, such as remembering words, objects, pictures or everyday events, and men outperformed women in remembering symbolic, non-linguistic information, known as visuospatial processing. For example, the results indicate a man would be more likely to remember his way out of the woods. However, there are also sex differences favoring women on tasks such as remembering the location of car keys, which requires both verbal and visuospatial processing. “In addition, women are better than men at remembering faces, especially of females,” described Herlitz and Rehnman, “and the reason seems to be that women allocate more attention to female than to male faces.” To determine this particular finding, the psychologists presented three groups of participants with black and white pictures of hairless, androgynous faces and described them as ‘female faces,’ ‘male faces’ or just ‘faces.’ The findings indicate that women were able to remember the androgynous faces presented as female more accurately than the androgynous faces presented as male. In additional studies, psychologists also discovered that women perform better than men in tasks requiring little to no verbal processing, such as recognition of familiar odors, and that the female episodic memory advantage increases when women utilize verbal abilities and decreases when visuospatial abilities are required. Environmental factors, such as education, seem to influence the magnitude of these sex differences, as well. While the probability of genetically-based differences between the quality of male and female memory remains unknown, the results suggest that females currently hold the advantage in episodic memory. The article, “Sex Differences in Episodic Memory,” appeared in the February issue of Current Directions in Psychological Science, a journal of the Association for Psychological Science. Adapted from materials provided by Association for Psychological Science. Studies of Event Memories of both Men and Women with MRIs reveal our Genders store these events in different areas of our Brains. Women store event Memories where they have emotions, Men in areas that store facts only. This leads to a much richer, more emotive memory and details for Women. This is not opinion this is MRIs and Brain Scans. This is a genuine Gender difference. Kind of difficult to call this a Social or Societal Construct in behavior when it is hardwired in us.  more

Resolved Question: Oral Presentation on ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS?

ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION: ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION: is critical and very important issue for the United States. It is country of highest level of Immigration Legal and Illegal, immigrants. I personally stand against ILLEGAL Immigration. In March 2005 Immigration and Naturalization Service report estimates that 165,000 illegals go home each year, 50,000 are deported, and 25,000 die. But many more than that come in. in 2007 the illegal alien population is above 13 million persons. Government and academic estimates indicate that as of 2006 there were 11 to 12 million illegal aliens living in the United States. The Center for Immigration Studies estimated the illegal alien population at 10 million as of November 2004. Immigration officials estimate that the illegal alien population grows by as many as 500,000 every year. ILLEGAL IMIGRANTS NOT ONLY COME ILLEGALY INTO THIS COUNTRY BUT ALSO BREAK LAWS: They come here illegally in the first place. They don’t speak English because they come here illegally. They steal jobs for Americans and also legal Immigrants. They bring crime, Gangs, drugs etc.. They steal American identities and cause pain a suffering They commit crimes against citizens. Yes citizens commit crimes too but if an illegal kills, victimizes or injures one citizen then isn't that one too many? They take medical care from citizens. They take school funding away from citizens. (OVER $10,000 per kid per year!) Far too many work under the table and pay little to no taxes. While they get most of the same protections that citizens get. They are not medically screened so they bring a lot of diseases into the country. Our population is already growing faster then ever before in history. Current United States Population is 300million. Census Bureau’s Projection of U.S. population says that in 2050 population will grow up to 420million. ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION IS NOT A VICTIMLESS CRIME: illegal immigration causes substantial harm to American citizens and legal immigrants, particularly those in the most sectors of our population--the poor, minorities, and children. Illegal immigration causes an huge drain on public funds. The seminal study of the costs of immigration by the National Academy of Sciences found that the taxes paid by immigrants do not cover the cost of services received by them. We cannot provide high quality education, health care, and retirement security for our own people if we continue to bring in endless numbers of poor, unskilled immigrants. Additionally, job competition by waves of illegal immigrants willing to work at substandard wages and working conditions depresses the wages of American workers, hitting hardest at minority workers and those without high school degrees. Some of the most violent criminals at large today are illegal aliens. Yet in cities where the crime these aliens commit is highest, the police cannot use the most obvious tool to apprehend them and their immigration status. Illegal Alien Crime in America • 12 Americans are killed every day by illegal aliens. It translates to 4,380 Americans killed annually by illegal aliens.* • 13 Americans are killed each day by drunk illegal aliens drivers, for an annual total death toll of 4,745.* • 8 American children are victims of sexual abuse by illegal aliens every day, for an annual total of 2,920.* * Quotes from U.S. Representative Steve King, R-Iowa. In the population study of a sample of 55,322 illegal aliens, researchers found that they were arrested at least a total of 459,614 times, averaging about 8 arrests per illegal alien. Nearly all had more than 1 arrest. Thirty-eight percent (about 21,000) had between 2 and 5 arrests, 32 percent (about 18,000) had between 6 and 10 arrests, and 26 percent (about 15,000) had 11 or more arrests. Most of the arrests occurred after 1990. About 45 percent of all offenses were drug or immigration offenses. About 15 percent were property-related offenses such as burglary, larceny-theft, motor vehicle theft, and property damage. About 12 percent were for violent offenses such as murder, robbery, assault, and sex-related crimes. ALSO we must secure our borders now. A nation without secure borders is no nation at all. We must secure our nation, because it makes no sense to fight terrorists abroad when our own front door is left wide open and unlocked. Together we the people must secure the future of America. BORDER SECURITY •1. The Administration Will Continue To Strengthen Security At The Border With Additional Personnel And Infrastructure. They are committed to implementing the following border security measures by December 31, 2008: •18,300 Border Patrol agents •370 miles of fencing •300 miles of vehicle barriers •105 camera and radar towers •You never know who is entering this country… oBy The End Of 2008, The US-VISIT Exit Requirement Will Be Underway At All U.S. Airports And Seaports. The Department of Homeland Security will continue to explore effective and cost-efficient means of establishing biometric exit requirements at land border crossings. oThe Administration Will Establish A New Land-Border Exit System For Guest Workers, Starting On A Pilot Basis. This will help ensure that temporary workers in the country now follow the mandate to leave when their work authorization expires. WHAT CAN WE DO? I'm doing oral Presentation on this. So can anyone tell me if this is enough of information. Should I include something else. Thank you. I will give 10 points.. Also What can we do? I did not finish that yet.. www.americanpatrol.com www.whitehouse.gov www.newswithviews.com www.fairus.org I did.. I found most of the information here. Resolved Question: Why is global warming such a partisan issue?

Last night and today I asked the same poll question on YA to determine the political affiliation, knowledge, and education of people on both sides of the global warming issue. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Ahj_9Ts6XCPlEPR8x0ZiSSPsy6IX?qid=20070620093306AAiroBM http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=As51esLbobIHNR73Q9Efqv_sy6IX?qid=20070619214425AA4ugqF I got 32 useable answers, pretty well spread along the political spectrum. Breakdown: Every single person who did not believe humans are the primary cuase of the current global warming (non-believers=NBs) were right-leaning to conservative. Those who believed humans are the primary cause (believers=Bs) ranged from moderate to one socialist, mainly liberals. Bs got their information from much better sources on average. Many NBs cited common sense. Bs had better education, basically averaging a BS in science while NBs averaged a BS in a non-science. Why is global warming such a partisan issue?  more

Regarding the education correlation - of course I put more weight on a science degree. A person with a science degree is more likely to be able to understand a scientific issue than a person with an English degree. Who would you trust more, a climatologist or Rush Limbaugh? If you answer Rush, you've got a problem. Regardless, that was just a side-note correlation. I was mostly interested in political and knowledge source breakdown. Bs had far, far better sources of information and included both moderates and liberals. The two best correlations were that a NB is almost certainly a conservative and likely poorly informed.  more

Resolved Question: Meteorologist: Little Ice Age Receding?

: Meteorologist: Little Ice Age Receding RUSH: Boy, I'm lucky I just found this story. I meant to give you the details of this earlier when I alluded to it at the beginning of the program. By the way, welcome back, RushLimbaugh.com, talent on loan from God. This is from the Wisconsin Energy Cooperative News, and it's about a guy named Reid Bryson, he's 86, still goes to work every day. He's a climate scientist, has a Ph.D. in meteorology, granted in the history of American education, held the 30th Ph.D. in meteorology. "Bryson is a believer in climate change, in that he's as quick as anyone to acknowledge that Earth's climate has done nothing but change throughout the planet's existence. In fact, he took that knowledge a big step further, earlier than probably anyone else. Almost 40 years ago, Bryson stood before the American Association for the Advancement of Science and presented a paper saying human activity could alter climate. 'I was laughed off the platform for saying that.'" I can't read the whole thing to you because I don't have the time to do it. It's the WisconsinEnergyCooperativeNewsMagazine.com, WECNmagazine.com, and let me just summarize for you. He points out that here that we're finding evidence of civilization where the glaciers that are melting are melting, where they once stood. In Switzerland, for example, they're finding silver mines under the glaciers. As the glacier retreats there, they're finding the mine shafts and the mining tools stacked up and waiting, waiting for the mine workers to return as the winter snows melted but it seems that one year, those winter snows didn't actually melt. Then year upon year passed and the snows grew deeper and finally they had a glacier there. It was the little ice age, they came to learn. Now the little ice age is ending, the glaciers are retreating, and evidence of civilization is emerging where we've known nothing but ice in our lifetimes. They're also finding water management structures built by man where glaciers are retreating. In other words, yeah, it's warmer, and as this guy points out all that's happening here is we're getting back to normal. There used to be less ice than now, we're just getting back to normal. There are constant cycles on the planet. These glaciers, that was global cooling, a little ice age, it was much, much warmer, and before all this so-called talk about could she footprints and industrialization and so forth. We've been there before. We've been warmer than we are now. We did it without SUVs and the industrial revolution. It's a funky little source here, the Wisconsin Energy Cooperative News and the 86-year-old Reid Bryson, but I wanted to pass it on to you because once again this is something people have no historical perspective. I think the global warming crowd is pure politics. We never heard about this when Democrats are in office, just like we never hear about homelessness when Democrats are in office. It's a purely political issue to advance liberalism, big government, and all that. Beyond that, one of the things that is troubling is if there were just a rudimentary understanding of science at the basic Junior High level, every citizen who had that would be able to debunk the global warming claims. I know there's some psychology involved here, but we know the earth's been much colder and much hotter than it is today, long before the current crop of people and their reasons for the warming now were ever around. I don't know that a hundred thousand years ago, billions, did the people alive back then blame themselves for these changes? Hell no. They didn't have that kind of vanity, didn't have that kind of time. So it's purely political. A little total, 100 percent political hoax, made all that much easier to accomplish by virtue of the fact that basic science education is so inept. http://www.wecnmagazine.com/2007issues/may/may07.html#1  more

Resolved Question: What do you want from your goverment?

What do you want from your Government? I am starting to ask myself the question, who am I going to vote for at the next general election? And I now realise that I have a real problem. There is no creditable party now that represent my view point and all I can see is negatives with all of them. Am I the only one? Here is a list of the main policies that I want to see from the next government. Please post any that you wish to see. It will be interesting to see where we stand. Reduced taxation. I hate this Tax and Spend method of the current government and the cynical approach of stealth taxes. Does he think we are all stupid? Cost of fuel. Cost to be frozen at around 90p PL unleaded (adjusted for inflation). a)Permanent freeze on fuel duty. b)Reducing scale linked to the price of Oil. Environment. Why does Britain always need to take the lead, set the examples, pay the price? I am sick of it. If this is such an important issue then take real action that will make a difference. Not just headline grabbing knee jerk reactions that will end up costing the population more in TAX. a)Reopen the debate and make it clear what are the known facts and what is liberal fiction based on undisputable science. b)If the issue is indeed real, tackle it in the most effective way. Commit to Nuclear power! Crime. If you do the crime, you do the time. a)If we need more prisons? Build them. b)Abolish community orders, ASBO’s and the like. It’s either a fine or prison. c)Abolish community support officers. Spend the money on real police. NHS. It’s broken, it can’t be fixed in today’s political correct liberal world and now it is actually seriously DANGEROUS to be a patient on a general ward. Abolish it and divert the funding into private health care for those on low incomes. Education. Abolish most of the politically correct social agendas inserted into then national curriculum over the last 30 years. Focus valuable teaching time and recourses in the important areas: Reading, Witting, Mathematics, IT, etc. Turn the clock back 50 years and let that be the bench mark. Europe. I am split on this one – LOL. It has many benefits for industry and business but also huge downsides to freedom and democracy. What would the economic impact be on jobs and the economy be if we withdrew completely? I just don’t know.  more

Resolved Question: These questions may be asked to me in admission for medical graduation education? can u answer?

Where do you see yourself in 10 years? (often asked) What does your family think about this? What is the biggest problem facing medicine today? What are the disadvantages/downsides of a career in medicine, besides no time? What are you looking for in a medical school? What do you think about "insert current hot topic here"? (HMO, PPO, Doctor-assisted suicide, ethical/moral issues of cloning, other financial issues in health care delivery) What field of medicine are you interested in?
