Open Question: System Virtualization (Shadow-mode or cloud-mode)?

i need to build a windows (xp,vista,7) virtualizator (some people call it cloud mode, some others shadow mode). for computer protection purpose, that when it boot it goes into a virtual windows, where we are still capable of changing pre-selected folders content as the desktop, the image or music folder etc. in the case that the user needs to install a software, there should bean option to turn of the virtualization while the user is installing, and then after the user is finished installing the software, they can jump back to virtualization mode.. this software will also expire in one year, and people will have to buy a new licence (by phone or intenernet) to keep going. t. there are softwares all over the internet that do this already, but im trying to see if i can get my own. patent pending it, and sell it without infringe the law or copyright. please i need pricing. i can provide all images and previews of the process if you requested. i'll take care of the publishing after i get the software done. example of sofware that does the same functions: shadow-defender, returnil, deep freeze, and others thanks more

Voting Question: Why buy an iPad if I already own a MacBook?

I keep looking at the iPad and thinking it really is quite an amazing feat of innovation and technological advancement and I'm not surprised that they sold 3 million within 80 days of it's initial release. However, I don't see the point in getting one if I already own a macbook, which I'm typing this on right now. What is a tablet computer good for if you have a laptop? Even microsofts courier (which I found much more appealing than the iPad), or an Archos android tablet doesn't seem to have a place in the lives of those who already own laptops. I understand maybe getting one if you don't have a laptop and are getting a portable computer to migrate away from your desktop, iMac or pc, but even in that sense why wouldn't you just get a laptop? Why iPad? A macbook is more powerful, efficient, and in all sense I feel can simply do much more than even a jailbroken iPad could. I mean, if I want to use Safari, my macs got it covered, same thing with youtube or itunes or maps, mail etc, or really anything that apple has videos for for the iPad on it's site. Yet I still see pictures of iPads docked to MacBooks and I can't help but feel like I'm missing something. Something the iPad can do that my fairly new MacBook can't, besides apps because honestly I don't know much about them at all and haven't ever bothered to figure out, yet I've been just fine without them..? Although iBooks is awesome I'll admit, especially because I am an aspiring author, but even then i don't feel like spending $500 on an iPad if i could just get amazons kindle for ebooks. So what is it I'm missing about the iPad? Am I clueless? Or is the iPad just gadget hype and people want to own one because it's new? more

Voting Question: Is it selfish or just - Possesion of Christmas gift?

So I have two computers in my room, both were mine. One Desktop we've had for about three years and it had a virus on it before Christmas. My friend fixed it a day ago so we have now two computers in my room. I received a notebook laptop from my mom on Christmas and we just started to use internet ever since we got it last week. My mother is becoming a facebook addict and she has the hots for my laptop, as do I. She's even going so far as to say that she's going to take this laptop and this is her laptop when at Christmas, she gave ME the laptop and me only. I had to completely hook up the computer with anti-viruses and firewalls and if anything happened to it, it would be MY fault. Now I see it like this, if she takes this back then Christmas was for nothing. After all, I only got this laptop and some clothes so it wasn't like I had a massive amount of stuff that makes me want to go O_O. I shouldn't just give her the laptop because there's two computers in my room (She doesn't want the desktop because I guess she's freaking lazy) Now you may think, "Put the desktop in the living room or whatever and keep the latptop". No can-do. She wants a computer where she can lay down and browse and I can put the desktop in hell for all I care, the only people that would use it would just be me (Step-father is technologically stupid, brother's 7.) So I didn't pay for it, big whoop. I'm 15, no job what do you expect? That's like taking food of someone's refridgerator because they went food shopping last week. I'm willing to SELL it back to her, not give it to her. I feel as though if I give her the computer, I got jerked from Christmas and I would have nothing to look forward to about anything (who wants a sick computer?). I'm not being selfish, I let her go on the laptop anytime she wants but if we're fighting for posession then I think if you GIVE someone something, it becomes that person's property. i currently have a desktop that im going to be selling and getting a laptop. i use comcast cable for my internet. i was told that in order to hook up wi fi to my current provider that the wi fi unit needs to be plugged into a computer. is there any way i can have wi fi with only having a latop and no other computer? hope this doesnt sound complicated but i just wanna have wi fi with my current provider and will have only one computer (laptop). the modem i have hooks up to my computer using an ethernet cable. but i was told i need to run the wireless router into an existing computer in order for the wi fi to work. more

First: Background wallpaper is the only image when you log in. No desktop Icons, and no taskbar at the bottom.I have only one profile for windows, no guest or family, so i cant go out an try a different one. I am the admin. so thats first. Second, ive continued to take steps in running scans with multiple programs(Norton, Malewarebytes Anti-Maleware, SpyBot Search and Destroy), no maliciouis anything comes up in ANY of them. Norton DID detect and quarantine a couple things, and the fact that they are quarantined and not REMOVED still upsets me and seems to be a clue to the fact that my stuff is still screwed. Im currently online through Ctrl-Alt-Dlt (task manager) Also, this computer is a gift, so i DO NOT have the original disc for re-installation or anything like that. ANY help would be very very welcome. Ive checked the tab for TURN OFF system restore or recovery or whatever, because I forget where or why i read that but it seemed important to try and not store virus's ive taken care of. Not sure whether that was good or not. Now i had restore points saved when the computer was fine, but if i go to system restore none of them are available. Listed quarantined viruses below: Trojan Horse, 2 of Suspicious.Mystic, BackdoorTidServ!gen5, 2 of downloaders, Trojan.FakeAV!gen27 Yes i know seems to be quite a bit doesnt it. I ordered an Alienware Aurora desktop last week. Today i was browsing their site and notice they are now selling the same computer i order last week with an added 200$ bonus (free overclock i7 processor). So i call customer service to ask them if they could give me the bonus since my computer is still "In Production", this is when the nightmare started. I call the 1-800 number, upon pressing the various options to reach customers service, 2 times the line just hang up on me. Another time i was put on hold for 10 minutes and it hang up on me again. 4th time i finally reach someone and the person tell me they cannot change my order that they can only cancel it and that i'll have to re-order it all over again. I tell her i'll think about it. One hour later i decide to cancel my order and re-order it with the new bonus, so i call them again and guess what, same bullshit, this time i press an option and i get a message saying This option is not available, goodbye. WTF is that crap seriously ? After nearly 30 more minutes i'll finally able to speak to someone, at this point i just cancel my order, there is no way in hell i'll order a computer after seeing what kind of crap service they have. So I'd like to know if you bought a Dell or Alienware computer and had to deal with CS, how was it for you ? Did i just got unlucky ? more

I had a Dell Inspiron 14 laptop, but recently I built my own gaming computer, which is very powerful and I have no doubt is good for school. I take notes on Microsoft OneNote though, and I feel like since I have this desktop now, there's no need for this 15" (I know it's still small) laptop to lug around, especially if I am carrying a lot of books. The battery power is also getting lower and lower each month, it has a 9-cell battery, and I am now only getting about 2 hrs. of battery time before I have to charge. Since I have this desktop already, and I only need something to take to class and take notes on or something, should I sell this Dell laptop on Ebay, and just get a cheap netbook or what do you guys suggest? Voting Question: A bit of a dilemma with internet, computer and room mate. Recommendations please?

Hello. First of all let me just say that I dont have a lot of money. I dont have a huge income. And like many in our society as of the last year or so, I have suffered greatly due to economic changes. I make only about $300 profit per month, after bills and all that. I had to make four major changes. One, I had to quit school for a few quarters (I will go back sooner or later). Two, I was forced into moving. Three, I had to sell my car. Four, I had to cancel my cell phone. So I moved in with this dude, my room mate, for an exceptional rate of only $400 per month. Outstanding in this area. But a part of the deal when I moved in was that cable television and high speed internet was included as part of the rent. Along with that, I paid $60 for unlimited telephone services for one whole year with Skype through the internet. I rely on internet. Not only as a means to attend web-based classes. But also as my phone service. Also internet and television are (pathetically) my sole means of entertainment since I neither have transportation nor the money to spend on anything else. Since then, my computer (a desktop PC) has broke down. Im in the market for a new one. Im not sure what to get, I was interested in the desktops. Really, even the cheapest $350 dollar desktops on the market will be a hell of a lot better than what I had, when it was working, even if I had upgraded it to max specs. All I do is internet surf, run a mathematics CAS (as a math major), download music and movies... and Im interested in occasionally playing Sim City 4. I had the idea to do laptops, but they arent my thing. I like the idea of free wifi at the local library, school and coffee houses. But it wasnt necessary. Now, my room mate is telling me that he is going to cancel the cable. So I am going to be without internet, television, phone, unable to research or communicate with anyone I know, unable to attend school, etc. Im being backed into a corner, and in violation of the agreement we had when I moved in. So I dont know what to do. A laptop is seeming much more appealing now, for the local wifi services. But then again... as I understand it even a desktop can be hooked up to some pretty high speed internet via cell phones and other wireless services. Is that better? I dont know. In fact, as I understand it, some modern cell phones are able to stream what is essentially cable television... that would be awesome, too. Bandwidth and monthly pricing are concerns for me, obviously. And the computer has to have the ability to make the hookup. But I dont know much about computers, I dont know much about cell phone services, plans or devices. Im just wondering what the best options are for pricing and affordability, without too much of an inconvenience, and without too great of compromise to what amenities Im already getting under my current conditions. So what say you tech guys? more

Voting Question: My computer wont startup!!! HELP!!! FINALS IN DANGER!!!?

I recently got a fake antivirus warning thats trying to sell itself. So i ran some scans with malwarebytes and after it requested i reboot. I clicked ok and then the problem occured. While windows was showing its loading bar it shutsdown instantly and startsup again. Im in an endless loop!!! I dont even make it to the desktop. Voting Question: Computer screen goes blank while Gaming?

Lately while playing online games on my laptop (well just World or Warcraft really) my screen goes away and gets replaced with this gray screen with lighter gray vertical lines all across it. It first happened a couple days ago after Raiding for a good 6-8 hours-ish. I could still hear sound for a few seconds then it just kinda froze so i had to hard boot it and it started up again fine. Yesterday it did it again as soon as I entered a Raid, I restarted and it did it again a few minutes later. I know that people say you shouldn't game on laptops but this laptop is only 6 months old and I know that I am well over all the specifications needed to play WoW (people with MUCH worse computers [yes laptops included in that] manage just fine). My last laptop died on me literally right after the warranty was up so I figured I would take this in today so I didn't get a repeat of that. Few things though... 1. Warranties at Best But (i know i know, dont judge. its just whats close to me lol) and I really don't respect them as 'computer techs' so I'm almost positive that I will either: a) get it back with them telling me the problem is fixed. when it is in fact, not. or b) them just kinda giving up and saying theres nothing they can do to fix it because its my fault it crashed, then continue to try and sell me an over priced gaming desktop. 2. I currently have no idea what the problem is and if its even major enough to bother waiting 2 weeks for nothing. 3. Well, waiting the unnecessary long time to get my computer back is going to be really tough and like I said, I don't know if it will even be worth it. PS: I'm on my laptop right now. The problem only happens during gaming (for now at least). PSS: Tell me to just 'stop gaming' and the problem will be fixed and I'll well...be very annoyed with you!! lol XP (/sigh that didn't just turn into an invitation to troll me I hope lol) lol i just felt the need to say that because it seems every time someone mentions anything to do with online gaming what so ever someone always seems to think getting a life will some how magically fix my computer XP And people who dont know what there talking about (like ppl who work at best buy for an example) always say to get a desk top to game. Voting Question: Can I move hard-drive information to a desktop onto an other computer?

Alright, well a few weeks ago my laptop was broken (they said the hard-drive bit the dust, basically) so we took it to geek squad. They fixed it and managed to save the things I had requested from my hard-drive to a disk (just my iTunes music and my pictures). I havn't yet put the hard-drive stuff back on my laptop (they replaced the hard-drive) because we decided to sell it and just use the second laptop we owned for both of us. Would I be able to add the information from the backed-up info on the disk on a specific desktop on the other laptop??? Yeah, we had to pay about $90 for them to retrieve the data. They told me they did replace the hard-drive. more

$699 per copy and $199 per update? I find that totally unreal! Now before some judgmental people call me a cheapskate, I do understand that softwares did not come out of thin air; it evolved out of carefully crafted skills that its hundreds of developers devoted many years to, paying a dear price for it. That, I can appreciate. But surely it can't cost even half that amount to create one copy of the product, especially when it's sold to the masses. As best as I could remember, my copy of the entire microsoft office softwares did not cost that much. Like, how's a student who happens to have one desktop publishing course in their entire studies to pay for it? What about companies and schools who have to provide a copy for every single computer? What about aspiring freelance graphic designers who don't have an income yet? Anyway, I'm urgently needing a copy of adobe photoshop to be used for this month-long class on desktop publishing. I normally rarely ever do photoshop on my own, and I don't have $699 lying around. Every now and then I may be able to use a computer on campus, but I can't come early or stay late every single day because I'm working and have other responsibilities. So what are my alternatives here? I use a MacBook (Leopard, end 2007) if that helps. But my parents whom I live with happen to have a PC so if my alternative happens to be a Windows software that's OK too.
