Resolved Question: What is this song I was listening to on the radio?

I was listening to this song on the radio yesterday and all I can remember is that the guy had a scratchy, low voice. It was a slow/rock song. And the lyrics said something about wisdom and his son in it. Probably a more modern song (90's to todayish)  more

Voting Question: What's with the little ignorant children who take after their perents in saying...?

..."everything was better back in the day"? Music, movies etc. I know, those are pretty insignificant things, but that's usually what it's concerning. I hear from classic rock fans (which I am) all the time how "the music nowadays sucks". The only rock you hear on the radio is modern alternative rock. I looked into indie rock, and there is some damn good stuff out there. There were just as many bad bands "back in the day" as there are nowadays. It just happens mainstream was better then. As for movies and television, I'd have to say, hands down, the stuff nowadays is much better. Television especially. The only show that comes to mind of "the classics" is M*A*S*H. The only classic movies I really like are spaghetti westerns. I know, it's all just opinions, but these people are so ignorant I wish every time I read something from them on here they were in front of me so I could break their nose. Can't anyone use their minds nowadays and form an opinion of their own, rather than just adopting a secondhand opinion from the media or someone else? Barney, don't get upset because I spoke truth about you, you ignorant, unintelligent little media drone. As I said, it's not their opinion, it's their parents opinion, or views of the media being repeated by them. The people who originally formed those opinions have their reasons, but those who just repeat, I want to hit them. They annoy me. Such stupidity serves only to hinder society.  more

Resolved Question: Radio station like Edmonton's Sonic in Calgary?

Travel back and forth between Edmonton and Calgary and discovered Sonic 102.9, a great modern rock station with an awesome playlist. Is there an equivalent station in Calgary? Hopefully it would have, Metric, Vampire Weekend, Tegan and Sara, Arcade Fire, RHCP, etc. on their playlist. Thanks.  more

Resolved Question: Rock and Pop: What are some cool things about Grunge?

When they play it on modern rock radio, it still fits right in. Yeah Dime, fk the "scene" and the trend. But the music. STP, Soundgarden, I mean it's not dated at all and it's almost 20 years old. I just think that's cool as hell.  more

Resolved Question: Turn back in time...?

Turn back in time where you used to sit 4 hours watching the Rugrats. Where you wouldn't ever leave your house without your nano baby, and when Blues Clues was actually challenging. Rewind back to the times when your favorite shows were Doug, Ren & Stimpy, Pinky and the Brain, and Rocko's Modern Life. When you watched re-runs of TGIF, Step by Step, Family Matters, Dinosaurs, and Boy Meets World. When you remember reading every series of Goosebumps, or in that case, remember listening to your mom read them as she grew bored and bored as you grew more excited as to what would happen next. When bringing plastic cartoon lunch boxes to school was pretty much cool, and saying "NOT" after every sentence was the way to talk. When every argument was settled by rock, paper, scissors, bubble gum bubble gum in a dish, or daddy had a donkey inky binky bonky. When cops and robbers was a daily activity, and when hide and go seek was put to pause only when it was snack time. The days when we used to actually obey our parents and when the radio was all we depended on for music. When you knew that Kimberly, the pink ranger, and Tommy, the green ranger, were meant to be together. When you always wanted to send in a tape to America's Funniest Home Videos, but never taped anything funny, so you gave up. When the Magic School Bus made you think that school buses could fly, and when yo-yos made you popular. When getting married meant buying your crush a Ring Pop, and blabbing some random words behind the dumpster. When reading that little paper in the fortune cookie meant everything to you because it predicted your life. The day when you could tell furbie all your little secrets and expect him to talk back, and when Beanie Babies were the talk of the class. When you got creeped out by "Are You Afraid of the Dark?", and when you knew the Macarena by heart. When you lied to your parents to bring you to McDonalds, because you were starving, when really you wanted to play in the play place. When gas was $0.95 a gallon, and Caller ID was a new thing, and when checking out drawing books and "Rainbow Fish" from the library was the cool thing to do. Before we realized all this would eventually disappear, we didn't bother to think of how good things were.  more

Resolved Question: Help!! Music emergency, I've run out of music to listen too!!!?

Ok, so Im a huge music nerd, its my life. Ive tried just about every music genre out there and have come to the realization that there may be no more good music i havent heard in esistence. Some music I like is, Velvet Underground, the stooges, PJ Harvey, Sonic Youth, My Bloody Valentine, Portishead, Crystal Castles, White Stripes, Black Keys, Silversun Pickups, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Pixies, Nirvana, Lou Reed, Led Zeppelin, The Kills, and Interpol. And indie, really into legit punk rock (nothing you here on radio), and classic rock. If your gonna put down that modern day bs metal crap the kids listen to, dont bother, same with hiphop, cuntry, and you get the idea. Im looking for modern indie/alternative like Sonic Youth or other cool stuff. Please Help!! Come on, 311...people you can do better than that, i like good music, not what the "trendy" high school freshmen like. the moody blues , thats a good, informed answer. No offense to metal fans, but ive already listened to all the good metal out there, and theres just so much bad metal these days... am i right?  more

Resolved Question: Does anybody else hate modern music?

modern music does my head in, whenever im queing up for something or in a car and they have the radio on, all i hear is that modern droan, how can they call it music, its modern drabble. Yes ive asked this question before but now im ellaborating, i dont just mean modern pop i mean modern music peroid. And when i say modern i mean after 1990. You get this rap shit, thats a bunch of talentless wankers who want to sell the music by swearing at kids and having half naked girls in there videos, and turning kids into chavs. You get groups like Girls aloud calling themselves a GIRL BAND, excuse me??? BAND?? you dont play fucking instruments, you dont even write your own fucking music, how can you call yourself a band?? your a bunch of singers, period!! You get RnB that IS NOT Ryhtmn NOR Blues, its not RNB so dont fucking call it RNB, its modern.. shit!! You then get most people todat miming and not singing live. You get this EMO stuff, emotional rock i believe its ment to stand for? how is it emotional its just bollocks!! really what is this world coming too!! gives me such bad headaches, it melts my brain. Planet rock is the only station i listen too, the only station other than Radio 2 that plays PROPER music. http://www.planetrock.com/player/ Im only 22 so not quite an old fart, but even i think modern "music" should be permanently removed from the airways QUEEN FOREVER!!!!!!  more

Resolved Question: Help identify a rock song?

I heard a song on a modern-rock radio station, and wasn't able to catch the title or artist. The band sounded like it could have Puddle of Mud, Seether, Bush, or Staind; or it was a band that I've never heard that is similar to those groups. Maybe Hinder? The song was slow & sung by a male. Lyrics included "and if you cared for me you'd never let me know," and maybe something like "cause in the end you're still my friend." I know for sure there was a "I don't deserve you" in there somewhere. I know it's a long shot, but I'd really appreciate the title/artist, & possibly a link to a video!  more

Resolved Question: modern/ newer rock songs?

okay so yesterday I was in the car and we were listening to the radio when this rock song i hadn't heard in a while came on and i thought "i need to add this on my ipod" well i don't remember the name or how the song goes sooo any good "newer" rock and roll songs?=]  more

Voting Question: Help me to identify famous classic song with chorus "i love you, yeah, yeah now and forever" probably from70s.?

I heard this song today on the radio, and it's one of these "classic" songs that all these "main stream" stations rotate over and over again. As i remember song made in style of pop-rock. My searching in google didn't get any wanted results and gave bunch of modern songs not connected to what i'm looking for. Thx in advance for any help !  more

Resolved Question: What are some good modern rock/alternative radio stations?

I live in Charleston South Carolina and i cant find any good radio stations.  more

Voting Question: What kind of guy would I attract?

I'm not trying to hook up with anyone over the Internet, but I'm really just wondering what type of guy would be interested in me. I can't really use any of my exes as examples, since they're all very different from me now. First off, I'm just really trying to find a well-rounded guy. I really don't like short-term flings. I'm going to be a sophomore in high school. My friends always see me with a smile on my face, and whenever there's music, I'll be dancing in some way. If someone invites me out somewhere, I'll almost always take it up, but I don't usually go out of my way to make plans and when I have free time I hang out in my room, listening to music and watching Youtube. I love classic rock, and I really have no interest in what's on modern radio stations. I wear flare jeans and fitted T-shirts, mostly novelty, and black looks good on me. I don't "party" often, but some of my more distant friends are stoners. I'm not on swim team anymore, but I'm a good weight for 5'4". If someone's arguing, I'll do whatever I can to make them see reason. I'm a vegetarian, and I love to cook. I don't really know what group this would fall into... I have dork, kinda emo, and hippie friends. Hm...  more

Resolved Question: I NEED HELP WITH THIS SONG!!!!!!!!!!?

Okay well the other day i heard this song on the radio. it was on a station that is modern metal/hard rock and some older stuff too. mainly like all the classics. but anyways i was in the car and heard it and it was soft but it sounded really good. it sounded like a mix between Billy Corgan from Smashing Pumpkins and Jonathan Davis from Korn. the only parts of the lyrics i remember is something about "why dont you just sleep" or something close to that. in the song hes talking about wanting his life to end or something reallly close to that. ik its not much but id really like it if youd help me out on this one. thanks!  more

Resolved Question: Help with unknown Rock lyrics- "someday we'll look back and laugh at all of this"?

that's probably not even the actual quote. i'm a metal fan, but i heard this song on a modern rock radio station and it's driving me insane cause it was so catchy. the words are something about look back and laugh (occurs in chorus). it's by some happy go lucky rock band similar to bands like Pop Evil or any mainstream rock band you know. Help before I go insane! Question should be closed. Thanks to the first answer for being correct. it IS "odd one" by Sick Puppies. Thanks for the quick answer!  more

Resolved Question: Has rock music stopped evolving?

Is there no room left to explore? Modern rock radio still focuses on styles and bands that were around in the early 90s, even late 80s.  more

Voting Question: Lyrics to recent rock song...?

It's a modern hard rock song. Been getting regular radio play where I'm from. All I can basically understand is what appears to be the chorus: "...I'm afraid to say your name alone..." The sound structure is your basic post grunge formula. Heavy back beats but smooth/edgy choruses -not quite Nickelback, not quite Pearl Jam. @ Shoebe, yes I'm positive those are the correct lyrics. It's the only part of the song I could hear clearly. I know, Google didn't give me anything either.  more

Voting Question: What are some soft songs by Between the Buried and Me, Mastodon, and Baroness?

Girlfriend and I are going to their concert tonight, and she's wondering which band she'll like more. She's very modern/80's rock. She like Mastodon's Mother Puncher, but it's probably the most radio friendly song they'll play. Baroness all of theirs is pretty stoner metalish, and BTBAM are very, either scream hardcore or very jazz influenced. What are your guys' suggestions?  more

Voting Question: Need some good metal or rock songs.?

So we have a 4 hour trip in a week and we cant stand listening to the radio. So we are making some cd's. We are sick of the same songs. We just made a whole disturbed cd a few Slipknot songs a few Lamb of God songs a few Devildriver a few GNR and a few Godsmack. Now we are puzzled. Any suggestions for us? NO RAP, COUNTRY or anything like HIM or Muse or any of that! Old school metal is good and so is modern metal but no Cannibal Corpse or anything like that. Thanks in advance :)  more

Voting Question: Lady Gaga isn't as original as she thinks she is. Anyone agree?

She thinks she is original. I won't have a go at her for that: No one can totally be original anymore. She is trying her hardest to be different. But, if she is trying so hard to be different: why does her music sound the same as any other dance/club/pop songs you would hear on the radio? She is always telling everyone to be who they want to be and other cheesy stuff like that, but, infact, a lot of her fans are girls who listen to only mainstream modern music (notice I said "alot" not "all") She said herself that she wanted to do rock music, but the music industry made her do pop because they would get more money. One thing comes to mind: "isn't her whole image about her standing up for what you believe in and not being a conformist?" My friend recently went to one of her concerts. At the beginning, she came on stage and said something along the lines of "tonight, my little monsters, is the night, and this is the place, where all us weirdos and freaks can hang out and be who we want to be without being ridiculed etc etc etc..." again, what I said earlier, many of her fans are just conformists. eg-the opposites of "freaks" and "weirdos" when in actual fact, at school I am considered the "freak" for not liking her music, and preferring Frank Sinatra and David Bowie ;) Answer that, please? oh, and when she sings she sounds like she is holding her nose. jus' sayin'.  more

Resolved Question: Would this statement about older music p*ss you off?

Sorry, had to put this. We were listening to iPods in class and someone said to someone else "dude, that song's like 5 years old, that sucks!" and i said that i have music from like 15 years ago on my iPod (Nirvana and Rage Against the Machine and Smashing Pumpkins, Soundgarden, NOFX, Temple of the Dog, Public Enemy, and others) then they smirked, and said that old music sucks (I also have older stuff like Led Zep, ACDC, Minor Threat, Sex Pistols). These people have no songs that aren't in the top ten right now on their iPods, listening to the next ripped off rap/pop awful songs that make the number one. They call 4 months old "really old". Later the teacher was talking about target audience for a radio advertisement and said "if i had a radio station that played music from the 1990s who would be my ad target, someone else said "my grandma", and i said "people in mid to late 20s, and younger.", i was temped to say "and anyone with a decent music taste. I think that popular music in the 90s was better than popular music here. You wouldn't see Nirvana make top 100 now. I mean... Nirvana was, i am pretty sure, the biggest band of the early 90s. Or one of them at least. The biggest rock band now is Linkin Park. The biggest artist of the 2000s was... Miley Cyrus. Yeah. See what i mean? Also, they think for some reason that any music that wasn't released in the last 10 years is classical, beathoven and stuff. I told them it was the start of Nú Metal (we have a korn fan), Grunge (they had never heard of it), and Punk Rock. And once i came in with a Nirvana t shirt on and 2 girls said "i love your shirt" "(she had a pink floyd shirt on, she was smart), but everyone else either said "who's Neer - vonn - ah". And another time i put Smells like Teen Spirit on, thinking everybody knew it, but 2/3 of the people hadn't heard it, and one person said "oh this song sucks" and then proceeded to put on "Tik Tok" by Ke£ha. I'm not saying that there are no good modern bands, there are a few really good ones, but they are all more underground or more unknown. Question: What are the most annoying remarks people have made to you about non-modern music? (like the ones i mentioned). If you had to go back in time and stop one popular "artist" from this decade (the 2000s) from going into music, who would it be? I also hate the reluctency to listen to songs that were released ages ago. Like, somebody was listening to a song from the speakers at a school sale or something, and said "i like this song, i'm gonna get it on itunes. What's it called?" And somebody else said "it's called ....... (i forget, i didn't know it), it was released in the 80s. and the first guy went "really? oh never mind then". I had a friend who said that he loved Linkin Park's blend of rock and rap, and i told him about Rage Against the Machine, and he didn't bother looking them up. Oh yeah, i'm a 14 year old boy. And i posted something similar before, i know. To "Dream10" You said "you don't have to listen to miley cyrus, you don't have to get annoyed by people telling you what you do, you could just do what you think its right and listen to whatever music you like." I say to you: you don't have to read this question, you don't have to get annoyed by people saying things you don't like, just do what you think its right and answer the questions you like" I actually agree with you, this questoin isn't about music, it's about the people who sneer at me for not listening to contemperary pop, mixed with a bit of ranting. I have to get it out. Don't like it? Don't read my question. I know, i just hate it when people sneer at me for listening to older rock. And there have been crappy music in every decade, and there has been good music in every decade, there is good music now.  more

Resolved Question: We need to bring good music back--Where did it all go?

My favorite genres of music is Jazz and R&B but really, I have a diverse interest in everything. Just as long as it sounds good. My least favorite genre would have to be country. I tried to get into it, but it just wasn't happening. I admire all genres of music from the 60s, 70s, 80s and early 90s. Some people like to travel around the world, but I like to do the same with music. I like to put on my headphones and get lost in my own musicial world. Travel around the globe. Honestly, it was my father who got me into music. He got me to where I started getting records myself I missed out on the current stuff they were playing in the 90s. While all the guys my age were listening to modern rap songs on the radio, I was getting into old school stuff, and that's probably why I have so much knowledge of old school music today. I love listening to artists such as Bob Marley, Donny Hathaway, Marvin Gaye, Minnie Riperton, and these were musicians who died before I was born. Musicians who passed on before I could get a chance to actually remember them being alive. I find it quite sad because they all died so young. Most of them were not happy and lived troubled lives, but they made people happy by leaving behind some great music. I like to read books and stories about musicans who passed on because I always like to get know the artists that I'm listening to. I've came across some things about certain artists that I didn't even know. Did you know Barry White spent 6 months in prison in 1960 for stealing tires? Or did you know that Bob Marley was a unfaithful spouse and abusive husband? Or Jimi Hendrix actually drinking bottled liquor between playing his guitar. I like reading about them and watching documentaries because there's so many things that you don't know about stars, yet they still overcame their obstacles and was still making great music I always wondered seeing an older Marvin Gaye celebrating his 40 year legacy or how Biggie & Tupac would've changed the rap game if they'd been alive in 2004. I pretty much know all the soul singers, all the funk bands, and jazz but I like to look for bands and musicians too many people haven't heard of before. While there's so much mainstream and Top 40 music everywhere on the radio, a lot of people don't realize that there's a lot of good music out here that's been overlooked. I get so excited finding songs that many people don't know of, yet they still jam. That's me, I like to get away from the norm. My aim as a DJ is to put on something that folks havent heard of before or havent heard in a while, and they're dancing to it. I want people to get a good vibe from my music, saying "Damn, who's that?" That's a great feeling. One genre I love is jazz. I love jazz music because it's soothing and relaxing. Honestly, I like the older jazz better because it has a laid back hip hop sound while today's jazz is too "moody" or too "romantic". My favorite jazz label is Blue Note Records. I love Blue Note recordings. Everything that comes from that label sounds good. Funk is another cool genre, though too much of it can get old. James Brown & The JBs is probably one of my favorite funk musicians. They often been sampled by rappers, and pretty much every rap song from the late 80s-early 90s has a James Brown sample. I love the Brothers Johnson, EWF Hip Hop is another genre that I love. There will always be different types of rap, but I honestly don't think rap will ever go away because it's so popular. 2002-2004 was probably the worst era for rap music, I think. Back then, there was Lil' Jon, Ying Yang, repeated songs on the radio. I just could never get into that type of music for some reason. While everybody was all about Lil' Wayne, I was into Biggie, Nas, Pete Rock, Roots, Outkast, Gangstarr. That's real hip hop, especially Roots & Gangstarr because their music has a jazzy beat to it. We need to bring this all back! I think we should do it all again this decade. Start off fresh! What do you all think? In recent years, we've been losing a LOT of great musicians. Heaven must be having a concert by now.  more

Resolved Question: do you know what rock song this is?

i know this isn't the greatest detail in the world but i was working out today and on the radio came a song. Its xm but i didnt look at the screen. the lead singers voice sounded familier and i ain't a hard core rock fan. he was singing and i don't know if it it was the chorus but at the end it switched to kids singing and they sang something like the path we travel. If anyone has any ideas thank you. Its gunna kill me inside not knowing the song ill try to think hard about what some of the lyrics are but for some reason i just can't remember. it wasnt youth of the nation or another brick in the wall & it was a modern rock song the oldest it could have been is maybe 2-4 years ago btw  more

Resolved Question: What is this song with female vocals and maybe about angels?

Hey! I heard a song some times already in parties and maybe in radio but i don't know the artist, nor the title of the song. It is kind of modern alternative rock, with female vocals. It's all shouting but the chorus where it becomes slower and softer. And in the chorus there is something about angels falling or i don't know... In their clip i think the singer is blond, skinny, and wears armless t-shirt with jeans. I know that's not much information, but if i had more i probably would have found it already :) Thanks, netopir  more

Resolved Question: Good emo/screamo/alternative/rock bands?

Good bands? not the fluffy radio stuff. I like stuff like Senses Fail, the Used, Thousand Foot Krutch, Dir en Grey, the Rasmus, Within Temptation, Fair to Midland, etc. As you probably don't know all these bands, you can guess that I also like kind of weird bands, ones that no one really knows. I like a ton of rock, but mostly harder and modern stuff. thanks  more

Resolved Question: What are some good modern day songs?

I like: Some country, hip hop, and rap. I mainly like pop. I don't like rock or stuff from back in the day. Please do not criticize my music style. I have everything from the radio. So please do not suggest that. Thanks.  more

Resolved Question: Chicago rock radio stations?

does anyone know of any good metal, modern rock station in and around Chicago i live by Aurora and all I've been able to find is 95.9 The River and 97.9 The Loop which play mostly classic rock  more

Resolved Question: What are your favorite bands/artists/musicians?

Basically this question is to purposely introduce me to new artists, all that underground, unknown and beyond music. Just know that your answer will not be voted best if you include Disney artists, cause I will not settle for that crap. Expand your horizons, people! Jesus. Anyways, the music I'm interested in is all that Indie Rock, Acoustic artists, R&B, Classic/Modern Rock, Pop(fun to dance to, though actual lyrics are poop lol), some Punk/Pop Rock, some good rap, some Techno, Alternative Rock, Soul, etc. Not so much country - Taylor swift is the only exception. My fave artists are: The Hush Sound-memorized all their songs =D Jason Mraz- love you forever, Jason! xD Sarah Bareilles-more like the female version of Jason Gabe Bondoc- soothing voice Katy Perry- im guilty; I can relate to her so much Passion Ne-yo Lady Gaga-all songs i know by heart from repition on the radio. makes me dance :) Cobra Starship-hated it when everyone started getting to know them. found them in 06 Owl City-somewhat, songs get repetitive and cant relate to it. sometimes sound all the same The Temper Trap- reminds me of summer Lucy Schwartz Regina Spektor Death Cab for Cutie/The Postal Service- when i had a headache, they were the only band i could listen to without getting dizzy <3 Motion City Soundtrack Brett Dennen- dude, shake that ASS ;P Britney Spears- dont judgeee; shes one of those guilty pleasure artists The Beatles- stoner guys haha jk, know their songs so well Coldplay- makes me feel like im in some new kind of world; mesmerizing music :) Panic! at the Disco- not a fan of their new album "Pretty. Odd."; 1st album so creative beyond words! Fall Out Boy nevershoutnever! Black Eyed Peas - an all time favorite, so original Maroon 5- you guys are all about love/sex/relationship problems, but i love you anyways! Taylor Swift- you belong with Taylor Lautner lol Nujabes- R.I.P, you are missed John Mayer- Sir, you're a bastard, but you have great songs ;) Queen Jason Reeves Michael Jackson- truely an artist; RIP, your music lives on Jack Johnson- i think of bananas when i hear his songs lol Michael Buble- so seductive HAHA Sondre Lerche HelloGoodbye- SERIOUSLY! fuck whoever says you guys are nerds; not like they have fans Journey-oh the memories created from these guys AJ Rafael Zsos Lily Allen- love her fierceness! and plenty more I can't think of right now. Feel free to share your views/commentary on these artists or on your favorite artists :) Btw, Happy April Fools' Day! :) No emo screamo metal heavy metal NONE.  more

Resolved Question: Can you suggest a really good rock group (NOT mainstream)?

It doesn't have to be really really obscure (though it's fine if it is) but I don't want any of the over played always on the radio crap. And please make it a really good suggestion, not just one you sorta like. Thanks! And I would prefer something more modern too  more

Resolved Question: Why don't I hear rap fans bashing mainstream rap?

Ok Im a big rock fan. I cant stand mainstream rap. Because honestly it is full of talentless retarded sellout hacks. I do appreciate some of the older hip hop music (immortial technique, ice cube, tupac) but talentless hacks like Lil FUC**** WAYNE and KANYE WEST give rap a bad image. Its kinda like modern pop and pop "rock" thats played on radio 24/7. All the die hard rock fans I know CANT STAND pop rock. But a lot of self described hip hop fans seem to love mainstream rap and I rarely hear them bashing these mainstream idiots of today. Is today's rap really what you guys like?  more

Resolved Question: Anyone out there in the Columbus,OH area know of a church that is progressive/modern?

Thanks Mental Midget: I was born and raised at World Harvest...started school there and still occasionally go there. It is a spirit filled church. ..but I find that they put much store in money related issues. I want a church that i can have a more one on one interaction.  more

Resolved Question: R&P: Mind if I clear some things up?

Star Please! I know it's kinda lengthy, but it had to be done. There's a few groups of people I'd like to address. People that commonly irk me in this section. So... here goes. People who think all music after the 80's sucks: TAKE OFF YOUR NOSTALGIA GOGGLES AND LOOK HARDER. You people are just as bad as Jonas Brothers fans, basing your tastes only on the mainstream trash you hear. Mainstream pop hasn't been good since the 60's. Why do you think that would change? The only arguments you people have to support your opinion are that it's not as "original" as it was "way back when." WELL OF COURSE IT ISN'T AS ORIGINAL. In the 60's and 70's, rock and metal were budding genres. 40 years and thousands of bands later, everything already exists. I mean... Look at how many different sub-genres of rock there are, compared to the 60's. I looked at band the other day, and they were labeled as Progressive Death Metalcore, and there was a link on the page to a list of other progressive death metalcore bands. That's ridiculous. If new music lacks originality, (which I don't believe it does) it's only because everything that can be done has been done. It's not fair to take points away from budding bands because there's nothing left to be original about. I'd like to see you create a new sound. It was much easier to do in the 70's. And to the people that say that new bands don't have as much variety as Led Zeppelin or The Beatles, that's a load of crap. Look up Rx Bandits. They've done everything from prog rock to reggae. Or how about Between the Buried and Me? Have you heard Colors? It's a contender for the greatest metal album of all time, and there is so many different genre influences in it, it's amazing. There's nothing wrong with modern music. New bands are just as talented musicians and songwriters as old bands, they just can't have as wide a sphere of influence. To people who hate rap: You are the most ignorant group I'm addressing. Saying rap is all about cars and money and guns and girls is like saying all metal is Satanic. So rappers don't play instruments. Who cares? Instruments aren't the only thing that define music. The best emcees are much better poets than Bob Dylan or The Beatles ever were. Rappers and rock bands have different skill sets. Neither is better than the other. I'll leave you with a song by Blackalicious about a rapper who got obsessed with money and fame and it caused his whole world to come crashing down around him. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1A0BmbiM5… People who think too much of Led Zeppelin: LZ are the most overrated band of all time. I would argue my point, but there's no reason to back up a fact. I'm not saying they're bad. They're great, but WAY overrated. Jimmy Page isn't all that. Pop music radio fan white girls: I don't mind people who are in love with Jonas Brothers or Justin Bieber or Taylor Swift. It's music. Everyone gets their own opinion. What I mind is when people are in love with them because they haven't heard anything else. The radio is the worst music source on the planet. People who draw all their music knowledge from it don't deserve to say they love music. People who take trolls seriously: ARE YOU STUPID? How are you gullible enough to think someone is serious when they call Miley Cyrus the metal queen? You just make fools out of yourself when you say something like "OMG MILEY CYRUS AIN'T GOT NOTHIN ON DA BEATLES. Seriously... you're worse than the trolls who post the stuff. ...hmmm... I think that's everyone who annoys me. And for the sake of making this a question: which group that I attacked annoys you the most, and what do you have to add to or disprove my arguments? BS (Bonus Statement): MGMT's new album is streaming on their site, if you wanna take a look. It's at whoismgmt.com The first half of the album isn't as good as the second, so don't give up too early. BQ: Favorite Indie Rock band? BQ2: Favorite band formed after 1990? BQ3: Do you like Kings of Leon? Why or why not? BQ4: Can you do me a favor and star this? :) That's all, folks.  more

Resolved Question: Why is there such a stigma with modern music like 2000-2010?

First of all, i answered a question saying my favorite era of music is modern. Innocent. But all the answers were bad talking todays music. I dont think old music is stupid, bad, talentless. Personally i do not like it though. My taste. Also i think a lot of this stigma is from what is played on the radio esp the pop and rap stuff. They dont seem to play a lot of the good rock on modern rock station either. It's the mainstream which is heard i believe which i can understand these thoughts. I dont like a lot of whats played. But there is a lot of good modern music which isnt as prevelant. I was wondering what others stance was on this. Please dont fight though or yell at me, im just wondering. @ peyton. i hate that child haha  more

Resolved Question: what's this song, PLEASE HELP.?

it goes; la, la la la, la la la la, it's like a male singer, it's kind of like rock. it's modern too, it's a song you would hear on the radio. sorry that there's not more of the song that i know, thanks in advance (: oh, it's not by LMFAO, or Seal or Puddle Of Mud, it's got a guy singing in a softer voice, 'la, la la la, la la la la,' it sounds a little raspy but not like a noticeable amount,  more

Resolved Question: Does anyone know that name of this this rock band and this song they sing?

I heard this song on the radio today. One specific lyric jumped out at me. It was something along the lines of "No one intends to take the path that leads you down." I know it's not an older rock song because the station I was listening to only plays music from the 90's-today and the sound of the music was more modern. Does anyone have any clue what the name of this song is and which band performs it?  more

Resolved Question: Why are "Pop" and "Alternative" considered music genres?

"Pop" has been used as a genre for music for the last few years but I have yet to figure out how that genre is defined. It used to just be a tag that described if a particular genre of music was popular, example: Pop rock, Pop Metal, Pop Country...etc. but now it seems to describe an genre of music. But what has been described to me as "pop music" is just modern day soul and hip hop variations, which is confusing to me...just call it soul or hip hop. To me pop music is just music that is popular, so everything that is played on the radio, sells tons of CDs or sells out concerts is pop music. I guess the same goes with the Alternative genre tag. Alternative used to describe music that was an alternative to what was popular now bands that are popular are being tagged as Alternative. I hope you can see my confusion.  more

Resolved Question: What are Some Modern bands that are Reviving older Rock sound?

Resolved Question: Are there still Aboriganies out there that live like they did 100 years ago?

Hay, calling all Aussies, espeacially outbackers (REAL outbackers) I've got a question for you. I don't know how many of you have internet service, but if you know, I have to check somthing. My friend Joey says that in Australia, to this day, there are Aboriginal people living as they did 100 years ago or more. I asked if he meant like half traditional, living in trailors and going shirtless to sell t-shirts while drinking and collecting Welfare. He said, chuckling, "Yeah, that too, but I'm talkin' about people naked people who run from cars and don't hardly sperak English." I go to hinking about it later, and asked more. He said that, while many Australians may not even really think much about it, if one truly wants to know, there ARE still black aboriganies living in the bush, dwelling in cliffs, hunting with spears and hardly knowing the "modern" world exist, if at all. When I asked furthur, he said that indeed some where people disallusioned with Modern life who'd sought out such tribes. But again he concluded that there were people lvigin in the woods and the Bush that people truly knew nothing about. When I asked how he knew this, he discribed a number of occasions, none of which dated more then ten years ago, where he and his brother had taken two or even three and four week treks out into the woods and bush and on some occasions saw Aboriganies who were curious about them. In one case, women and children were fascinated by simple things, like his flash light. Once, he reported, he found people in a secluded swiming hole who were afraid to touch his radio. Another time, he said that while off roading people (almost naked) leaped down from rocks and ran into dusk. If this were a hundred years ago, I could believe it all the way but... it's hard for me. Is Australia still that wild in some places?  more
