Resolved Question: Song about Clear Channel?

I'm looking for a song pertaining to Clear Channel and the corporate greed of commercial radio. I believe a portion of the chorus goes something like, "I'm talking about clear channel, clear channel..." or something to that effect. I could be incorrect about the lyrics, but I know it was sung by a woman in the folk or alt. country genre. It's been awhile since I've heard the song. It used to get airplay on Texas Radio 98.7 FM in Victoria, Texas which has since quit broadcasting or been bought out by commercial radio, how ironic. If anyone has any hints or clues as to what I'm looking for it would be greatly appreciated. No it's not Clear Channel (F*** Off) by Leftover Crack or Citizen Fish.  more

Resolved Question: Sirius XM Radio Static - Annoyed!?

I got this portable radio as a christmas gift. I finally hooked it up 2 weeks ago, and so far I like it.. but I am very annoyed! I thought the sound was suppose to be clear and in HD! Pros - There's always a song on that I find myself singing to. Cons - Static and sound - It will sound find at first, but if I'm in a populated side street.. it's static, and annoying. Only on thruways will it come in clear. The vol. also sucks. It is not as loud as regular FM radio. What the hell is wrong? I drive a ford taurus. I have the magnet on the back of my car. I went to their site to search for the best FM channels that would work great in my area... all 5 that they listed do not meet my standards.  more

Resolved Question: Who will win the Grammy 4 Best Hard Rock Performance?

Here are the nominees: "War Machine" AC/DC "Check My Brain" Alice In Chains "What I've Done" Linkin Park "The Unforgiven III" Metallica "Burn It to the Ground" Nickelback 1st of all, the version of "What I've Done" is from "Road to Revolution: Live at Milton Keynes." & lookin' @ the nominees @ hand, I doubt that whoever wins will warrant a televised ceremony. "Check My Brain" is the most played song on Krab Radio. Considering how monotonous radio is, tis good that there's a new AIC song so I don't need to hear "Rooster" or "No Excuses" all the time. Incidentally, KRAB seemed 2 stop playing Metallica; can't be 'cause it's a Clear Channel station as it's been a affiliate for years. If Nickelback wins, that could annoy the Answerers here who already detest the Recording Academy. But if it makes yall feel better, Krab doesn't play "Burn It to the Ground" (but they still play other Nickelback hits). If the Recording Academy nose what's good 4 rock music, they'd hand the gramophone to AC/DC or Alice In Chains. "The Unforgiven III" I think just made the early part of the eligibility year, so consider it a "spillover" nomination. So what do you think? Any Alice In Chains fans out there? Can you listen to AC/DC on the AM/FM radio or do you have 2 hear 'em on XM or Internet radio? The 52nd Grammys take place January 31 on CBS.  more

Resolved Question: Does anyone listen to iPods from other people's cars while taking a trip on the open highway?

I bought an adapter for my iPod a couple years ago that works by broadcasting a weak signal on the FM band on whatever frequency that I choose. With that I can put my iPod on shuffle and listen to it on whatever channel happens to be clear on the highway I'm traveling on. Well, not too long ago I was traveling across the Mojave desert and a car zoomed past. When it got about a block ahead it slowed down and paced me for a while. I wondered if he had picked up the song playing on my iPod, liked it and tagged along for a while. A few months later I was able to test whether that was possible because a friend needed to go on a long trip to the same destination as I. He loved the music on my Ipod. Well, I told him what channels I'd use at various points in the trip and interestingly enough I found out that I was a roving radio station and that anyone within a football stadium's distance (out on the open highway) can pick up my iPod crystal clear. My friend was thrilled that he didn't have to be bored by all the mundane radio stations on that trip because he could tune in my iPod from his car! So in theory, it's possible that a whole pack of cars could be listening to my iPod as I travel. Being biased as I am toward my favorite music selection I think I'd have the best radio station on the highway! My mix would surely be a death sentence for any Radio station to copy - because I'll mix DooWop, Disco, Alternative Rock, Psychedelic, 60's Soul, and Spanish Language Reggaetón all together in the same format. I could entertain you if you were following me and you liked my mix. Ever pick up a great song on the radio while traveling on the highway only to have it vanish within 30 seconds? You may have been listening to someone's iPod from a car near you! It would be a matter of catching up to the 1/4 mile "sweet spot" near whoever is broadcasting from their iPod. So if you are carpooling on a trip to some far off destination you have a music option if most of you like someone's iPod mix. So here's my question, because I now know that it can be done: Has anyone followed near a car on the highway just to listen to their iPod?  more

Resolved Question: Sirius Radio Installation Help?

I guess this is a two part question. First, do i need to use both the Sirius antenna and the FM extender antenna? Second. My sirius radio is going in my work truck (i drive a semi locally) and the antenna that is for the radio is very strong and i get fm channels from a very long distance. I have a hard time getting a channel to play sirius clearly. Also for example, if there is a station on 88.3 fm and another one on 88.7 fm, 88.5 will slighty pick up one of the other two making it very hard to find a clear channel to use. Any help will be GREATLY appreciated!!! Lol forgot to finish...so will taking off the antenna on the truck for the truck radio help get better reception?  more

Resolved Question: Frequency bleeding on my multi-band receiver?

I just bought a (used) Worldstar multi-band receiver, and I've noticed that FM radio stations repeat on other frequencies. I pick up radio stations (although quieter and not as clear) on Air (108 - 135 FM) and also TV channels (for example, 93.7 picks up perfectly on TV channel 4). Is this normal? I had a multiband receiver before and this never happened, but it wasn't a worldstar, although I don't remember what brand it was... Is there anything I can do to prevent this? I'm also picking up the radio on PB (173 FM)  more

Voting Question: Aftermarket AM/FM/CD Tuner (Sony) Hooked up to 5 Channel Amp and 12" sbwfr - Radio station are pure static!!!?

Prior to having 5 channel amp and 12 inch sub-woofer professionally installed in my 2003 toyota camry/solara, the radio stations were crystal clear. My car has (2) factory antennas. My problem is the techs are baffled as to why there is so much static. They even disconnected the factory antennas and installed and aftermarket one. It helped some what but most station just give you a headache due to static. Today I just had the same place install a hd radio tuner add-on and to my surprise the static is even worse now. Voting Question: Best way to play MP3 player in car?

I have a Creative Zen Vision M, and an Ipod Nano. I hav tried THREE different FM transmitters and NONE of them work well at all. 2 have used the 87-89-83-85 channels, and one used any available channel. None gave clear playback. They all had static come and go. I don't expect Bose quality but even something decent would be nice. I really don't want to do a full blown install of an underdash system because I don't plan on keeping this car that long. I would love to hear recommendations of which FM transmitters are the best. Thanks Forgot to mention, no cassette player in my car.  more

Voting Question: Using the TV tuner in an HP m9300t desktop?

Hello everyone, Recently I bought an HP m9300t desktop. It came with an ATSC/NTSC TV tuner. I have the standard TV coaxial cable in the TV jack and get regular channels fine. I was wondering, though, how I can get over the air channels since it should be able to. I'm not even sure if it came with an antenna. All I see are a couple IR cables and what looks like a FM radio antenna (clear, thin cable, branches off in two directions, little black nubs at the ends) but I could be wrong. -- Would that be the ATSC antenna? Also I am not even sure where an antenna would plug in to. I've got a couple different TV jacks in the back (TV-in, DTV, maybe another not sure cause Im not home right now). Would it go in to the DTV jack? I hope someone can help me out and sorry if I am not clear enough. Hmm, yes that is almost what my card looks like except it also has an FM ant jack next to the analog jack.  more

Resolved Question: I get less channels with my digital converter?

So I picked up a digital converter box expecting what my friend down the street said "with analog, we got like 2 channels and now we get over 20 with digital". We normally get 13 really good channels and a few fuzzy ones with analog. With the converter, we get 3! What's wrong? There were a lot of channels that came in crystal clear with analog and the converter cannot find even a bad signal on any of them. The three that it gets are in an out as well. I have a FM-VHF-UHF indoor Recoton 250 antenna. It is old, but worked great with analog. I live in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago. Any help would be great.  more

I grew up in the heyday of FM when songs about drugs were a frequent part of the radio -- Boston "Smokin," Skynard, "The Needle and the Spoon," Steely Dan, "Kid Charlemagne," etc. I don't hear these much anymore, or other explicit lyrical content on the "classic rock" stations. Resolved Question: Is the Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-1800 Hybrid Video Recorder a good tuner card?

I have been thinking of buying a Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-1800 tuner card for my computer. Can anyone tell me if this is a good card? I will be using it to pick up cable channels (including digital channels) and to pick up FM radio stations. Does this card get good fm radio reception? Does it support an on screen program guide? Can it record clear qam channels? I have read reviews that say that the software that comes with this card isn't very good. Would all the features of this card work within windows vista home premium media center (including fm radio and qam channels.) If not, is there freeware tuner software that will work well with this card? Also how I do I know which qam (digital) cable channels in my area are encrypted and which are not. My cable provider is Comcast. My digital cable box doesn’t need a smart card (the credit card like device that plugs in a receiver to decrypt channels) nor does it have a place to put one in. Does this mean that all of the digital channels that I currently subscribe to are all unencrypted? I have tried searching the internet for a list of clear qam digital channels in my area without any luck. I would hate to get the tuner card not be able to pick up channels that I frequently watch because they are encrypted.  more

Resolved Question: John&Tammi on Star Country 96.3 FM 3/31/08: publicity stunt? Did anything actually happen?

All the apologies from a Clear Channel VP--it's almost like they're encouraging speculation to keep the listeners. Maybe nothing happened--several people I talked to who are regular listeners say nothing happened the morning of 3/31. Nothing is on any blog about this. Thoughts? What really happened?  more

Resolved Question: Do You think That Citadel Broadcasting Should Buy Channel 955 From Clear Channel So 95.5 Can Be Top 40 again?

If Citadel Broadcasting owned channel 955 they would be a Hit Music Top 40 radio station instead of a Rap Station. Citadel Broadcasting does not believe in having a rap radio station and calling it Top 40 like that stupid Clear channel communications here in Detroit, Michigan call channel 955 top 40, when they know channel 955 is a rap channel. I believe channel 955 would be a better radio station if they were owned by Citadel Broadcasting the company who owns 93.1 Doug FM, 96.3 WDVD and AM 760 WJR here in Detroit, Michigan. Detroit Has toooo many rap stations! Detroit neeeds more variety on the radio. Detroit, Michigan currently has no Top 40 radio station. 96.3 WDVD is a Hot AC radio station. 96.3 WDVD is not a Top 40 radio Station. 96.3 WDVD FM is a Hot Adult Contemporary radio Station. Hot AC!  more

Resolved Question: Should A President Own All Media?

I would very much appreciate your feelings on this. Thank you. I just learned that Mitt Romney's private equity firm, Bain Capital , and Thomas H. Lee Partners have agreed to pay in a leveraged buyout agreement with Clear Channel Communications , the largest radio station owner in the country for 19.5 Billion. This is the release from Clearchannel's website: http://www.clearchannel.com/Corporate/PressRelease.aspx?PressReleaseID=1824 and BAIN CAPITAL:: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/bain_c... Clear Channel owns over 1,100 full-power AM, FM, and shortwave radio stations, twelve radio channels on Satellite Radio, and more than 30 television stations in the United States. Premiere Radio Networks , which is the largest syndication company in the United States, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Clear Channel and is home to Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity and many other household names. Could it be that Romney will use his new-found media outlet as a passive wing of his Campaign? Sorry that Bain Capitol link didn't work. Resolved Question: XM Radio, how to make reception better?

Me and my girlfriend both went to Best Buy this past weekend and saw an XM radio on sell for about $70 and came with 3 free months of service. The unit we both got was the Audiovox Xpress XMCK-10A. I hooked up hers first since we had her car and everything at the time and we activated it and everything but the reception has static. We used a pretty local FM radio station which has clear reception all the time (not sure if that even matters) but we still here a little staic on all the channels. All the signal bars are showing pretty much all the time but yet their is still a small amount of static, just enough so that you can here it in songs and everything which is very irritating! What can we do to clear up her sound? Also, can I hard wire the power wire to the ignition so I can get rid of that bulky cig adaptor and make it look like a cleaner install? We mounted the unit on the top of the dash so both the power wire and antenna wire are hanging down the front which is ugly..  more

Resolved Question: Should (USA) Congress revisit 1994 and 1996 legislation that has increased the blandness of FM radio?

In 1994 the FCC began awarding licenses via auction, rather than "best public use" policy In 1996 a 40-station nationwide ownership cap was erased "In 2003, the FCC Media Bureau produced a draft report analyzing the impact of deregulation in the radio industry. The report stated that from March 1996 through March 2003, the number of commercial radio stations on the air rose 5.9 percent while the number of station owners fell 35 percent." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fcc I'd personally like to see Congress require the FCC to break up the commercial FM monopoly and require that a higher percentage of FM frequencies be available for local, noncommercial, nonreligious, HIGH POWER licensees. Many of the commercial stations now are completely automated, so it's not gonna hurt the Clear Channels of the nation to give up some frequencies, particularly if they were given a 2 year period to realign their operations or such. Next thing you know Clear Channel will be able to take your house via eminent domain (a la Home Depot) for a transmitter site! Huevo: Honestly there is more variety in online radio than in satellite radio. And satellite costs, broadcast radio doesn't. And satellite has atmospheric / physics limitations. If I could find a decent HD car radio with a USB port and a recessed area to keep me from knocking a flash drive off, I'd probably be content with that  more

Resolved Question: Broadband internet in the car?

When do you guys think this will start to happen? The technology is possible. A few years ago they had high speed internet on select China Airlines flights via satellite, although it was discontinued. I'm not interested in surfing the net in the car so much as I would love to be able to listen to streaming radio stations in the car. Right now, as far as radio, it's just the commercial FM, Sirius and XM and that's it. Yet there are a zillion internet radio stations created for very specific genres of music you can't even find on satellite. That would be a dream come true being able to listen to literally anything I wanted when I wanted from any country on earth, including news and talk stations from anywhere. It would be the death of Clear Channel.  more

Resolved Question: Does anyone think that Smooth Jazz radio will return to Portland, Oregon?

After losing KKJZ 106.7 FM 4 years ago Portland lost KIJZ 105.9 two days ago. Clear Channel didn't even give the format more than 1 and 1/2 years. Maybe BAs Smooth Jazz network will appear on a Portland radio station.  more

Resolved Question: Is an FM Modulator going to allow me to connect my Zune to my 2003 Toyota Corolla LE?

Is an FM Modulator (the specific device is on the website shown below) the same thing as FM transmitter? In a bigger city where there are NO open FM channels, even in the 80's wavelength, is it going to give me a clear sound with my Zune (mp3 player)? I've already tried a type of FM transmitter, and I could never find a channel that would sound even decent. http://www.crutchfield.com/S-32dbPtYZSra/cgi-bin/prodview.asp?i=142FMMOD01  more

Resolved Question: Does it seem like Clear Channel owned 106.7 FM The Fox will not last as a Country radio station in Detroit?

Have you checked the Arbitron radio ratings for metro Detroit lately at www.arbitron.com? 99.5 FM WYCD Detroit's Best Country is killing 106.7 FM The Fox with ratings. Clear Channel will soon have to pick a new format for 106.7 FM very soon. Maybe they will relauch the website www.1067needshelp.com again and we can pick a new format for 106.7 FM. Country music must not be very popular in the Detroit radio market. Detroit might soon be back to 1 Country music radio station which is 99.5 FM WYCD. WYCD is going to kill The Fox again.  more

Resolved Question: 2005 Prius - original AM/FM Radio: The AM gets fuzzy from time to time - any fix?

I live in Phoenix AZ, USA, where the ground is in the city is flat driving. Sometimes the AM gets distortion and sometimes it is clear, but only on certain channels. The dealer replaced the antenna but that didn't help. The dealer says other Prius owners haven't said anything about whether they have the same problem or not. Any ideas on what might be wrong and how to fix it?  more

Resolved Question: Do you believe internet radio will die May 15th 2007?

The Copyright Royalty Board in Washington, DC has more than tripled the royalty rates for webcasters. This means that most internet streaming radio stations in the US and Canada will no longer be able to afford broadcasting their programs. Do you think this is fair considering the fact that commercial radio stations pay nothing to play their songs? Isn't playing a song on internet radio or commercial radio promoting the song? Is this fair that Clear Channel, which controls most of the music heard on the FM dial, gets away without paying anything. Are we going to be stuck listening to Justin Timerlake, Beyonce, or Bow-wow songs. Are we destined to hear the same 50 tired old classic rock songs? Will we never get to hear College rock, Ska, Garage, Eurodance, Big Band, Reggae or any of the hundreds of other formats available on internet radio? Do you like internet radio, commercial radio or satellite?  more

Resolved Question: I thought only "old Whites (like Don Imus)" guys got fired for racial slurs?

For all of you out there (mostly White people) who want to claim that Imus' firring was an "injustice," that he was made a scapegoat, and that he was only doing "what rappers do;" check this story out.. DJ Fired Over X-Rated Racial Slurs NEW YORK -- Hip-hop disc jockey Star, half the radio duo that hosts the syndicated "Star & Buc Wild Morning Show," was fired Wednesday over racial and sexual remarks he made about a rival's wife and 4-year-old daughter. Star, whose real name is Troi Torain, worked for Clear Channel Radio's Power 105.1 FM before losing his job when his on-air comments about DJ Envy and his family drew protests from a City Council member and other elected officials. Clear Channel, the nation's largest radio station owner, said it found his statements "wholly unacceptable." "As of late this afternoon, he is no longer with Power 105.1 or Clear Channel Radio. Resolved Question: Why does American radio suck so monumentally hard?

While I'm pretty sure that the answer can be summed up in the words "Clear Channel", I'll ask anyhow. I've been a big fan of UK's Radio 1 channel for a while now. I absolutely love programs such as Mary Anne Hobbe's experimental show, and I'm jealous of all the variety that you lucky Brits get in content. Yet, in America, you'd be hard pressed to find a single station that's even approaching listenable, save maybe for college/pirate stations (which you've got to have an antenna bigger than a cellphone tower to pick up, I might add). I guess what I'm meaning to ask is, who killed FM radio? Was it the Video Star? Do corporations just not give a hemorrhaging flip about what goes on the airwaves? Any ideas at all on the topic?  more
