Open Question: Parasite attack in my aquarium! Please help.?

Background: I have a ten gallon tank with one male reg wag platy, one female red wag platy, one female sunset platy, and one female swordtail. The tank has been running for over three months. I recently added the sunset platy and the swordtail (the parasite could have been transmitted by them). Problem: I recently found a small organism in my tank and with some research, found out that it is argulus, or fish lice. There are a few adult fish lice but there are also eggs. I treated the tank, yesterday (I took out the carbon), with Clout by Aquarium products but today, there are still live fish lice in the tank. I believe more of them hatched. On the box, it says one dosage would be strong enough to kill all the parasites, but obviously not. Can I put the carbon back in and clear the tank of the Clout so I can try a new medication? Or should I try another dose of Clout? The parasites constantly lodge themselves on the fish and the fish get very irritated and show signs of flashing, I am very worried for them. Should I try Parasite Clear by Jungle? Please help. Any sugggestions would be extremely helpful! Thanks so much.  more

Resolved Question: how to avoid fishing hooks lodging in the throats of fish?

ok, so i am working on a fish farm for work experience, and one of the tasks im working on is catching and landing trout from one tank and moving them to another, i catch them with a rod, reel them in, land them and dislodge the hooks, followed by throwing them into another tank. simple, right? well, the only problem is, most of the trout swallow the fly and hook, and if the hook lodges in the trouts throat it has to be killed. so, is there any way i can avoid the throat lodging happening?  more

Resolved Question: Kribensis Question - What to do when male dies?

Right, my male Krib died a few weeks ago. Nothing disease related or anything like that, the daft fish got his head stuck in an ornament where some of the smaller fish in the tank play. Although I was able to cut him out (Yup, I had to play vet and carefully cut away the ornament from around him, he was lodged in hard) he had quite a lot of damage to his gills from being stuck in an ornament for at least a few hours. He hung around for a week or so, but ultimately the gill damage and whole experience was too great and he went downhill pretty quickly no matter what I did to try to save him. Anyway, the real question is this - should I get another male Krib to partner with remaining female one, or is it going to be best if I leave her as a windower so to speak? Any other Krib owners have any experience with this?  more

Resolved Question: NEED MEDICAL HELP, ASAP!?

I'm really worried, my boyfriend and I were experimenting with anal sex and he asked if he could shove a plastic knife up my bum. I sad okay, but I tightened my sphinctor and it broke off. I've got it stuck up there and blood keeps coming out. It's been in there for a few days and the smell has gotten unbearable. I have tried to have a bowel movement but nothing comes out. It only has a sharp shooting pain and I nearly pass out every time it happens! I can only describe it by having a blazing hot metal rod shoved up my bum. I told him of it, and he had me bent over so he could try to take it out. He fished around in there for quite a few minutes but only ended up lodging it in further. I don't know if this is related, but now when I go to the bathroom to urinate, I have a sharp pain i my groin area, too. My vagina has gotten a slimy substance constantly on it that's tinged a tad yellow. My labia minora are also turning a kind of sickly grey colour. Do I have an STD, or is it the infection from the knife?? And I'm 4 and a half weeks pragnent.  more

Resolved Question: Hunters! What do you think of this idea?

Would it be a good idea if someone buys 1000-4000 acres and place imported exotic animals on it and charge people who want to hunt ? Would I need to charge for entering or for the animal killed or both? What if that person builds a lodge on the premises/hotel would it be a good investment also? What if the place has a river for river rafting can I buy kayaks and rent them out and you can fish too? And finally if I also build a hunting/fishing store on the premises also? =All the animals would be exotic and imported. The place would be in Canada......let's say and island or mainland which one would be better or would both be better but the island would be for more dangerous animals like wolves, boars etc.....Would this be a good idea?  more

Resolved Question: Friends for basically forever, but I feel more than that?

We've been friends for basically our entire lives. Her family owns a fishing lodge that my family has been going to every summer for my entire life. She's smart, funny, a bit of a tomboy, and artsy. I'm more of the analytical, engineer type, but I enjoy the artsy side as well, I just can't participate (basically I have very little artistic talent). But I guess that's beside the point. I think she's an amazing woman and I told her how I felt. She said that she just didn't think it would work out. That was 2 years ago. I still haven't been able to move on. tried dating, but I've never felt the same connection with anyone. What should I do? I want the friendship above all else, but I'm willing to take the risk of a relationship. Oh, and I am 20 and in college, so don't think of me as some lovestruck 15 year old or something. We live quite a distance apart and go to colleges even further apart. We're about the same age. We chat online a lot and I feel I know her pretty well. I still have a hard time reading her. She's not one to wear her emotions on her sleeves. If you want more details, just ask.  more

Resolved Question: Where is a good little fishing hole on the Georgia coast?

I am looking for an out of the way type place on the Georgia coast for a weekend of inshore fishing. Targeting specifically trout and reds. Resolved Question: any single ladies out there?

Well, my name is Nick, and I guess I'd consider myself to be a nice guy. I haven't had an extreme amount of luck dating. I get to be friends with a person and I've heard multiple times that they would rather just stay friends. I'm fine with being friends, but I decided to try this site to find someone that would want to become something more than that. As for what I'm looking for in a partner, I guess I'm looking for sort of a tomboy. Someone who isn't afraid to get down and dirty in the outdoors. Maybe a little bit of a country girl spirit. Intelligence is a must though, plain and simple. Looks aren't a big thing for me. Yes I think there has to be physical attraction, but I don't need supermodel looks and double D breasts. I want someone who does take care of themselves though. Gotta be healthy. I enjoy spending as much time as possible outside. Most of the time I'm out fishing for anything that's biting. I've been a fisherman since I could first hold a pole. My family goes up every year to a fishing lodge in Canada. I also should say that I am originally from a small town in Wisconsin. I guess you could say I'm a small town guy. Living in Daytona Beach isn't terrible, but it isn't my favorite place to be. As for other activities, as you can see above, I'm up for a lot of stuff. I also enjoy watching movies and some television. My top channels/shows would be discovery, history, house, deadliest catch, CSI (the original), and the red green show. Mega bonus points if you enjoy the red green show! Quando Omni Flunkus Moritati. I love dogs and am not really into cats. They seem kinda sneaky to me. Back home I have two white labs who are just crazy. That's about the best way to describe them. Umm... I'm going to ERAU in Daytona Beach for Aerospace Engineering. Love the school, the professors, and everyone I've met. Only problem is that the ratio of guys to gals is about 5 to 1. So not the best selection are left for dating. honestfisherman@yahoo.com 20 years old  more

Resolved Question: Has anybody heard of a fish getting a rock stuck in its mouth?

My beloved fish (Nubbles) is a black moor. He's a decent size and lives in a tank with aquarium pebbles. Anyway, not too long ago, I found him with a rock stuck in his mouth. Yes - one of those aquarium rocks got lodged in his mouth. I had to hold him and actually pry the rock out. I'm guessing while he was sucking on rocks to find food, he "bit off more than he could chew." =\ Has anybody else ever had this happen to one of their fishes? Or heard of it happening? If not, any comments are appreciated. @ Noselessman: Ha, thanks. :) I was really freaking out when it happened. I'm really surprised I managed to get the rock out, I was shaking so much! @ANIMAL: Oh wow! I can't imagine another fish getting stuck like that... Ouch!  more

Resolved Question: How to fix my wetsuit?

I was surfing a couple weeks ago before the big storms in S. California. Afterward I was a stupid and left my wetsuit on top of my car when driving home. I finally found the wetsuit 2 days after I lost it lodged in debris against a flood control canal. When I fished it out it was heavily stained with mud/silt. I washed it out a couple times but I still can't get the stains out. Plus I think that some one drove over it causing a couple rips. Worse I have a Quiksilver CL5 wetsuit that is white so the stains a extremely visible. I have photos of it below: The red spots are rips and tears. The gray spot on the seat is dirt. THe yellow stuff on the back is mold. http://forum.surfermag.com/forum/showflat.php?Cat=0&Board=UBB1&Number=1755880&Searchpage=1&Main=1755880&Words=+Socai1surf&topic=&Search=true  more

Resolved Question: I can't figure the answer out to this riddle my friend sent me. Can someone help?

Five friends decide to have a competition to see who can catch the most fish from their own favorite fishing pool. As it's only for fun it's decided that each person fishes for as long as they want and then submits how many fish they caught and how long they fished for. It's up to you to work out how well each does and what position they come in. The fishermen are: Paul, Andrew, Alan, Peter and Ian. The fishing pools are: Blue Lagoon, Rose Lake, Rye River, Star Pond and Lodge Lake. Each fished for a different length of time: 15 mins, 30 mins, 45 mins, 60 mins and 120 mins and they caught either 5 fish, 7 fish, 10 fish, 14 fish or 15 fish. The Blue Lagoon was fished for 45 minutes. 7 fish were caught by the friend who fished for 15 minutes. Ian fished in Star Pond for the longest time of all the friends. Rose Lake produced the least fish. More fish were caught in 60 minutes than in 45 minutes. Andrew caught the most fish. Peter caught more fish than Ian. Alan fished in Rye River. So how well did they do? Put the friends in the order they came in the competition starting with the winner.  more

Resolved Question: The Case of the Orange Bird? (Dr. Haledijian)?

For years Mrs. Sydney, the wealthiest dowager in New York City, had vainly tried to outwit Dr. Haledijian. As the famous criminologist selected a cigar from the tray held by the Sydney butler, a wicked gleam came into his hostess's eye. It was time for playing stump-the-detective... "John DeMott, Paul Houk, and Lee Roach were partners in a successful New York jewelry business," began Mrs. Sydney. "Last January they flew down to the Florida Keys to spend a month at DeMott's lodge. "One afternoon DeMott took Houk, an avid fisherman but a nonswimmer, out on his forty-foot cruiser. Roach, whose hobby was bird watching, remained behind. "Roach says he was sitting behind the lodge when he spied an exotic orange bird, belonnging to a species new to him, fly by. He followed it to the front of the house, and through binoculars watched it building a nest, high in a palm tree. "Quite by chance, he moved the binoculars out to the water and saw DeMott and Houk struggling on the yacht. Roach says DeMott shoved Houk over-board and held his head under water. "DeMott claimed that Houk had leaned over the side to gaff a fish, and, losing his balance, fell into the ocean. He drowned before DeMott could reach him. "The coroner ascribed death to drowning. At the trial, it was simply DeMott's word against Roach's." :The jury deliberated less than five minutes," concluded Mrs. Sydney. "No doubt, my dear doctor, you won't need so long to realize who was lying." Haledijian didn't. Do you?  more

Resolved Question: What exactly is a "bikini inspector" supposed to do?

In "The Simpsons". There was this show called "Little Big Mom" where it was the year 2000, and it was Season 11. Marge gets her leg broken inside a ski lodge. Lisa Simpson takes the role of Marge while Marge is in the hospital with her broken leg healing. One of the systems Lisa comes up with is a "chore hat" where Homer reaches in and is supposed to do the chore he pulls out of the hat on a slab of paper. ANYWAY, as Homer reaches in the hat he says "Come on bikini inspector... Scrub toilet. Ok that was a practice." He reaches in again and keeps saying "Practice.. Practice.. Ok here we go FEED FISH." What I don't understand, is why was Homer so intent on getting the "bikini inspector" job. What was he supposed to do if he got the "bikini inspector" job? Insect women's bikinis from a drore or inspect women's bikini WHILE the women are wearing them? I don't get it. Could someone please inform me? What did he expect to get to do with the "bikini inspector" chore?  more

Resolved Question: Onions, Grapes, and dogs...?

This question is about an answer to "Why can't you give onions and grapes to a dog?" about 4 months ago. This one answer got a 'thumbs down'. Why? If you already know which of these foods listed are truly bad for a dog, will you please save me hours and hours of research trying to check which are true? I don't want to make my dog sick, but I don't want to spend my whole life researching every toxic thing on the planet instead of spending time with my family (dog included). If you are SURE you know, please tell me which on the list are incorrect? Please don't guess, as that is not helpful at all. Thanks very much, in advance, for your time and expertise! : ) Here's the answer that got no thumbs-up and one thumbs-down: 1. Onions (Both onions and garlic contain the toxic ingredient Thiosulphate. But onions are more of a danger. Many dog biscuits contain *small* amounts of garlic – garlic contains less of this toxin so huge amounts would need to be consumed to be toxic. And, by the way, this poison builds up the system – it can be toxic in one large dose – or with repeated consumption of small amounts.) 2. Chocolate (Chocolate contains Theobromine, a compound that is a cardiac stimulant and a diuretic. This can be fatal to dogs.) 3. Grapes (Grapes are dangerous because of an unknown substance which is toxic to dogs – affects canine’s kidneys) 4. Raisins (See above.) 5. Most Fruit Pits and Seeds (Contain Cyanogenic Glycosides resulting in cyanide poisoning – though the fruit itself is OK.) 6. Macadamia Nuts (Macadamia nuts contain an unknown substance that is toxic to dogs.) 7. Bones (Most bones should *not* be given (especially chicken bones) because they can splinter and cause laceration of the digestive system and/or become lodged in your pet’s throat – so they also pose a choking hazard.) Raw bones are generally fine, but Chicken wings poze a choking hazard to large dogs. 8. Potato Peelings and Green Potatoes (Contain Oxalates, which can affect the digestive, nervous, and urinary systems.) 9. Rhubarb leaves (See above.) 10. Broccoli (Broccoli is only toxic in large quantities.) 11. Green parts of Tomatoes or Green Potatoes (Contain oxalates, which can affect the digestive, nervous, and urinary systems.) 12. Yeast Dough (Yeast Dough can produce gas and swell in your pet’s stomach – leading to rupture of the digestive system) THey mean Yeast Dough-which us Uncooked Bread. Cooked in the oven, already causes the yeast to rise, so doesn't pose an issue 13. Coffee, Coffee Grounds, Tea, Soft Drinks (Coffee, tea, & most soft drinks are dangerous due to the caffeine.) 14. Beer/Wine/Alcohol of any kind (Alcohol of any kind could lead to coma or even death.) 15. Human Vitamins (Human vitamins, especially those containing iron, can cause damage to the lining of the digestive system as well as cause kidney and liver damage) 16. Moldy or Spoiled Food (I think this goes without saying.) 17. Persimmons (Persimmons can cause intestinal blockage) 18. Raw Eggs and Raw Fish (Raw eggs and some raw fish can cause Salmonella poisoning.) 19. Salt, Baking Soda, Baking Powder (In large amounts these can cause an electrolyte imbalance – and severe electrolyte imbalances can lead to muscle spasm or even congestive heart failure.) 20. Mushrooms (Mushrooms may contain toxins which could cause liver and kidney damage) 21. Sugar-Free Foods (Sugar-free foods containing Xylitol have been found to cause liver failure in some dogs.) 22. Nutmeg (Nutmeg can cause tremors, seizures, and central nervous system damage.) 23. Excessive Fatty Foods (Excess fatty foods can cause Pancreatitis.) 24. Avocado (All parts of the avocado and avocado tree are toxic to dogs.) 25. Resolved Question: How does this wedding sound. Do you think I'll be disappointed when its all said and done?

After what seems like YEARS of searching, I think we finally found the perfect venue. Its a YMCA. Now before you judge me, hear me out. We live in upstate, NY, smack dab between Saratoga and Lake George (LG being one of the most popular vacation destinations in the northeast and Saratoga being famous for the race track). We have literally thousands of venues to choose from but all were either too expensive or just not us. In northern LG there is a "resort" called Silver Bay. It is a YMCA in the sense that it offers what seems like unlimited amounts of activities for people of all ages, as well as had lodging on campus (they have a large, quite nice hotel but also dorms and lodges). If we choose to go with this place, we will be having our ceremony close to the water. I dont think much will be needed as far as decorations for this space as the views are gorgeous. I love the look of the shephards hook placed at the end of each isle with a pomander attached ( http://media.theknot.com/ImageStage/Objects/0003/0050486/large_image.jpg ). I plan to make these myself using carnations. Carnations get a bad rep but if used right, they can be quite lovely. We are both as far from religious as a couple can get so it will be a very quick ceremony. I'm thinking about asking a cousin who I am very close with to get ordained and marry us. If that doesnt work out, we will just hire a JOP. Silver Bay offers a few different choices as far as catering. All of their banquets are buffet style. They have a more traditional dinner menu (beef, chicken and fish) but they also have what they call the "Upgraded BBQ". Basically its BBQ ribs, chicken, corn on the cob, baked beans, baked potatoes, tossed salad & strawberry shortcake (I'm hoping to get a slight discount since we wont need the desert). They offer this for $21.00 ($10.50 for kids). The traditional dinner is twice as much. This venue doesnt supply the alcohol but we are permitted to bring our own. We pay a per-person per-hour charge for the alcohol because their servers will serve the guests their alcohol. I'm totally okay with this charge because this way, the guests have no idea that we supplied our own alcohol. My fiance also assures me that this will be considerably cheaper than having an open bar through the venue. We are leaning towards the BBQ option. We are planning on getting married memorial day weekend 2011. I personally think that a BBQ reception on that specific weekend is definitely suitable. The wedding site is atleast an hour drive for pretty much everyone, so we assume that a number of the guests will probably stay the night. They resort will even host a private bonfire for us and our guests. I figure we will purchase a bunch of smore making supplies and hopefully we will have some beer left over from the wedding. I think this would give us the perfect chance to relax with those nearest and dearest. They also offer a brunch banquet option for pretty cheap. If the budget allows maybe we will arrange this for the guests who decide to stay (we will know ahead of time since they will have to make reservations). How do you think this sounds? My fiance and I arent really high maintenance people. We would be just as happy staying home and having burgers on the grill as we would going out to a nice restaurant. The reason I ask if you think I will be disappointed is because for the longest time I wanted the big formal sit down dinner reception with white gloved servers. Well, then reality hit and I realized that there was no way we could afford this on our own. It is important to us to pay for our own wedding. Neither set of parents is overly wealthy but would give what they could. We're successful adults (only 23) who can afford to pay for our own wedding (within reason). If we wanted to take money from my parents, we could afford much more but I am a firm believer that unless you are 19 and still living in your parents house, you are an adult and should be responsible for covering the cost of your own wedding. I am secretly hoping that my parents buy my wedding dress but it would be okay if they dont. What do you think of the idea for our wedding? Think I'll be disappointed after the fact that I didnt go with the lavish, formal affair. Sorry this is so long. Thanks for the input.  more

Resolved Question: this happened to me, what would u do?

i asked this questions before but i didn't get any good answers, so here it is again: ur 11-years old and kayaking with ur (11-year-old) cousin and for some dumb reason, u stand up and fall in the lake. ur 83 miles from Canada (in Minnesota) and the lake is freezing even though it's July. and, of course, ur really far out in the lake and u can barely see ur lodge because your glasses slipped off ur nose and their already making their way to the bottom of the lake (which is quite far). oh and also, u don't know this but there are fish with very big and sharp teeth swimming around in the lake. oh and it's impossible to get back in a kayake after falling out!!!! so what do u do?? this happened to me. but i'm not going to say how it all ended, i will tell what happened when i pick a best answer. the best answer has to be closest to what actually happened. HAVE FUN AND DON'T BECOME DEPRESSED BECAUSE THERE IS A WAY OUT OF THIS!!!!!!!!!! LOL! ps whenever i think about this, i get really freaked out because i remember ever tiny detail and so i can just be right there again. and its' really scary!!!!!  more

Resolved Question: For Truth Seekers Only. Truth or Myth?

"As fossil finds continued, however, it became apparent that nothing like giant dinosaurs was known from anywhere on the planet." http://www.globalchange.umich.edu/globalchange1/current/lectures/selection/selection.html Really? nothing like giant dinosaurs was known to anyone on a global scale? I can do one even better than just a plain old dinosaur, and yes, it was definately well known. I copied this out of a book. Here is how the book describes a horse: Have you given the horse its strength or clothed its neck with a flowing mane? Did you give it the ability to leap like a locust? Its majestic snorting is terrifying! It paws the earth and rejoices in its strength when it charges out to battle. It laughs at fear and is unafraid. It does not run from the sword. The arrows rattle against it, and the spear and javelin flash. It paws the ground fiercely and rushes forward into battle when the ram’s horn blows. It snorts at the sound of the horn. It senses the battle in the distance. It quivers at the captain’s commands and the noise of battle. Sounds like a very good description of a horse. Then it mentions the hawk and a few other animals, all with the same descriptive writing style. Then it talks about this one ... Can you draw out Leviathan with a fishhook? Or press down his tongue with a cord? Can you put a rope in his nose Or pierce his jaw with a hook? Will he make many supplications to you, Or will he speak to you soft words? Will he make a covenant with you? Will you take him for a servant forever? Will you play with him as with a bird, Or will you bind him for your maidens? Will the traders bargain over him? Will they divide him among the merchants? Can you fill his skin with harpoons, Or his head with fishing spears? Lay your hand on him; Remember the battle; you will not do it again! Behold, your expectation is false; Will you be laid low even at the sight of him? No one is so fierce that he dares to arouse him; Who then is he that can stand before Me? Who has given to Me that I should repay him? Whatever is under the whole heaven is Mine. I will not keep silence concerning his limbs, Or his mighty strength, or his orderly frame. Who can strip off his outer armor? Who can come within his double mail? Who can open the doors of his face? Around his teeth there is terror. His strong scales are his pride, Shut up as with a tight seal. One is so near to another That no air can come between them. They are joined one to another; They clasp each other and cannot be separated. His sneezes flash forth light, And his eyes are like the eyelids of the morning. Out of his mouth go burning torches; Sparks of fire leap forth. Out of his nostrils smoke goes forth As from a boiling pot and burning rushes. His breath kindles coals, And a flame goes forth from his mouth. In his neck lodges strength, And dismay leaps before him. The folds of his flesh are joined together, Firm on him and immovable. His heart is as hard as a stone, Even as hard as a lower millstone. When he raises himself up, the mighty fear; Because of the crashing they are bewildered. The sword that reaches him cannot avail, Nor the spear, the dart or the javelin. He regards iron as straw, Bronze as rotten wood. The arrow cannot make him flee; Slingstones are turned into stubble for him. Clubs are regarded as stubble; He laughs at the rattling of the javelin. His underparts are like sharp potsherds; He spreads out like a threshing sledge on the mire. He makes the depths boil like a pot; He makes the sea like a jar of ointment. Behind him he makes a wake to shine; One would think the deep to be gray-haired. Nothing on earth is like him, One made without fear. He looks on everything that is high; He is king over all the sons of pride." No, It's not a sea crocodile. How many animals do you know of that breathes out fire, bronze spears are like rotten wood and it says, "No one is so fierce that he dares to arouse him" and "Who can strip off his outer armor? Who can come within his double mail [steel armour worn by knights]?" Definately not a whale - or any animal we know of today. Myth is often rooted in the truth - ignorance springs forth due to the lack of truth. Leviatan is described as what we call today a fire breathing dragon and can be found in what is correctly called the book of truth. Leviatan is in the Holy Bible, Book of Job chapter 41 (written about 1600 BC)  more

Voting Question: New fish sitting on bottom of tank?

I just got two Silver Dollar fish today when I took them home in the bag they give you at the store they seemed to be fine moving around. I let the bag sit in the aquarium water for about 10 minutes before I let them out. But as soon as I scooped them up with a net and let them free they both went to the back of the tank and hit behind the ornaments. I tried moving them around a little bit to see if they were still alive them seem to be but they just stay there and don't move. So I got scared that I might have thrown them into shock and I turned off the light for about 1 hour and when I turned the light back on they just seem to be laying in odd positions not moving. (One is lodged between some plants and the other is leaning against a ship not even moving from the last time I checked on them) PLEASE somebody help! Everything in the water seems to be ideal according to the water test strips things and the water temp is at around 75-80.  more

Resolved Question: who can help me to summary below the story of myth?

Osiris, the grandson of Ra, sat upon the throne of the gods, ruling over the living world as Ra did over the gods. He was the first Pharaoh, and considered to be powerful and noble, what made him popular with the people. However, his proud brother Set envied his success and decided to kill him to take the throne and Osiris' wife Isis from him. He built a special coffin and casted a spell that would chain anyone who entered it from escaping. Set took the box to the great feast of the gods and made drunken Osiris get into it. Osiris failed to escape, because the wicked magic held him, and died inside. After that, Set took the coffin and ordered 72 unnamed conspirators to hurl it into the Nile. Set claimed the throne of Osiris for himself and no one dared to contradict him, because he had already killed Osiris and in any time could do the same again. Meanwhile, Isis decided to find her husband's body and bury it in a proper way. She searched all of the Nile for the coffin and finally managed to find it, the coffin was lodged in a tamarisk bush. Nurtured by the divine presence of god's body, the bush had put out shoots and grown into a large tree which the king of Byblos had let cut down and used in the buildings of his palace. Having explained her aims to the queen of Byblos, Isis got her permission and managed to extract the coffin without harming the palace. After that, she returned the coffin to the house of the gods, changed herself into a bird and started flying around husband's body. Then Isis perched upon him and cast a conjuration. The spirit of dead Osiris entered her; she conceived and later gave birth to a child. She named the boy Horus, and hid him on a far island. After that, Isis went to Thoth, a god of wisdom, and asked for help. She begged him to use magic that could bring Osiris back to life. That was not an easy task, because Thoth knew that Osiris' spirit had left the body. Thoth and Isis wanted to create the Ritual of Life, so that the spirits of Osiris recognise his body and returned in it. None the less, cruel Set discovered their plan, stole the body of Osiris and cut it into 14 parts, throwing them about all over Egypt. He hoped that Osiris would never come back to life. This new obstacle didn't stop Isis. She implored her sister Nephthys to help in her search of the Osiris' pieces. Bringing one piece after another to Thoth, they after all collected 13 of them. Unfotunately, the 14th part, his penis, was eaten by the oxyrhynchus fish (a fish with an unusual curved snout resembling depictions of Set). Trying to replace it, Isis created a phallus out of gold. Thoth took all the items and went to Anubis, lord of the dead. Anubis sewed them back together, washed the viscera of Osiris, embalmed him, wrapped him in linen, and cast the Ritual of Life. As soon as Osiris' mouth opened, his spirit flew inside and he resurrected. Nevertheless, no one who had died might come back and stay in the land of the living. Osiris went to Duat, the abode of the dead, and Anubis yielded the throne to him and he became the lord of the dead. When Set got to know that Osiris rose from the dead he got mad, but shortly calmed down realising that he would not be able to return to the land of the living. That fact assured him that he would never leave his throne. However, Horus, the son of Osiris and Isis, despite all Set's attempts to kill him, grew up and challenged Set for the throne. The battle lasted for many days, but Horus had a Thoth's magic knife and defeated Set. Horus was aware that if he had killed his uncle he would be no better than Set. That's why Horus castrated Set and cast him into the darkness. Since then Horus protects us while we live, and guides the Pharaoh while he lives, and his father Osiris guards us in the next life. Set eternally starves for vengeance, fighting Horus at every turn.  more

Resolved Question: What do you use your Cast Iron Grill (griddle) Pan for?

I just bought a Lodge Grill Pan, the kind with raised ridges in the bottom. Grilling season is coming to an end and I dont like the taste of burgers fried in a skillet, so I bought this for that purpose. I would like some ideas for other uses. I am thinking about trying to do some scallops or fish on it. Will seafood fall apart on the ridges? How do steaks come out on it? It seems like you can use it for most of the same things as a grill, you have a hot "grate" and radiant heat underneath. Please share your experiences.  more

Voting Question: What has happend to my golfish's fin?

I did my normal routine of checking up on my animals and this morning while checking on my goldfish. Which I have to of, the smaller one of the two. I noticed straight away that one of his pelvic fins looked I dont if broken is the word but its bent inwards and not open like his other pelvic fin. Now they never ever fight so I ruled that out as a possibilty but somtimes the little fish gets him self lodged inside of his little tank ornaments and then cant get out and panics. But what has happened to my poor fishey? He's still swimming fine though.  more

Voting Question: Can someone please summarize this paragraph for me?

The plane out of control crashes into a lake. the pilot is dead. Charles uses his knife to cut the jammed seat belt of Stephen, hauls him up out of the plane, following Bob. They swim to shore, where Charles saves Stephen's life by performing CPR on him. Bob uses a signal flare over Charles' mild objection that they will need those for signaling rescue planes. Charles uses his knowledge of how to make a compass from a piece of metal to try to lead them to a location where a rescue craft might find them. While walking along, their adventure worsened when they encounter a huge Kodiak bear which chases them. They escape by crossing a single-lodge bridge over araging river. After Bob and Stephen safely make it over, the bear catches up and shakes the log while Charles is attempting to cross, carrying the signal flares bag which he loses when he falls over the river. Bob risks his own life to save Charles from the raging edge of the waterfall. Bob responds to Charles' gratitude by retorting, with a smile, that he couldn't possibly kill him with the witness, Stephen, there. The men end up going in a circle. Charles attempts to calm Stephen by assigning him to shape a spear with his knife, and while doing so, Stephen accidentally cuts his leg. His companions treat his wound, then hunker down in the rain with him, under a shelter of branches. Charles goes to gather firewood and returns to find one of the bloody cloths used to staunch Stephen's wound stuck to a branch. He demands to know why it was not burned or buried as he had instructed. The bear returns and attacks the terrified Stephen, the other men trying their best to help, but the bear chases them away and takes Stephen. They stay on the move, looking for food and a way to get rescued. The bear appears suddenly in front of Charles while he is fishing in a river. In order to fend him off, Charles and Bob light a ring of fire around their camp and keep it burning all night. It seemd Charles had given up in despair but declares that they will kill the bear. Charles describes his plan for the battle with the bear and they put it into action. Luring it with the smell of their own blood on a handkerchief in the breeze, they attract the bear to a location where they have carved long, sharpened spears from nearby trees. The spears fail to stop the bear, who charges the two men. Bob is injured and seemingly about to be killed, but Charles coaxes the animal away. As the bear rears up on its hind legs to crush him, Charles plants his spear into the ground. The bear lunges forward, and is impaled by its own weight, killing it. 31 seconds ago - 4 days left to answer.  more

Resolved Question: is this normal to have a dream like this? what does this dream mean?

i had a dream that i was on a street that ive never seen before (in real life) and i was walking home from the beach and on that street a monster started to chase me. it was green and scaly and fish-like. i also had another weird recurring dream about me upstate in a ski lodge and its packed with high schoolers or maybe even college kids. theyre all hanging outside and drinking and laughing and hooking up and dancing to music blasting from theyre fancy cars. im 12 in real life but in my dream im not sure how old i was. but anyways every once in a while as im walking a guy would start hitting on me. but i would reject of course since im not sure how old i am. the dream felt really real. and it was super dark outside but everyone was still outside. and im in the parking lot avoiding the guys by hiding behind cars and just trying not to be seen. its such a weird dream. does anyone know what either of these dreams mean?  more
